Tenpoundfortytwo is doing the Lord’s work on this. It’s so annoying to see folks on Spectrum who gaslight people who are asking for tips on enhancing FPS: “Get a new PC, bro!”
Honestly this last patch (.1) has been amazing... and I was one of the lucky ones who got in about 8 XT runs that worked great... and also acknowledging there are plenty of issues... but recently Star Citizen actually feels like a game where I'm not just randomly exploding or borking. As a dogged player it's been very fresh.
I use Lossless Scaling from steam to improve the FPS significantly. It works great to push the upper limits of your monitor refresh rate if you have a mid-high range system that can deliver FPS at 50+
I tried it but I don’t have the option to downscale the resolution, so basically was like I was just applying filters as a result less fps, dunno why I can’t se the resolution
I use it at x2 and it doubled my FPS, went from 35-40 at stations to 70-90 or even 130 (I have a 144 hz monitor). Can’t recommend it enough, fixed my performance issues I had for years with this game. (I’m on an 2080ti, 9900k)
Note! For Intel 12 series owners disabling (not parking) E-Cores removed 95% of stuttering on three separate systems I've tried i.e. my own, Husband's and on of my spawns. Personally I prefer 60+ fps for twitch type shooters and any fps provided it's smooth for simulators. For PvP 60+ is a must IMHO but for simply flying and exploring as low as 24 fps would be fine if it was butter smooth.
nah that's not the truth. the truth is, my 1 year old Gaming PC with all the bells and whistles struggles to get 50 FPS at low settings, and in stations or cities, I get 20 FPS. That's terrible, by any measure of modern gaming.
its still missing multicore support and the game is only half cooked. his statement of single player stuff is fine is accurate. just cuz you throw anything less than 60 fps in the trash can don't mean someone else has no issues playing. I have huge fps lags in city and I play just fine. its when you try to go to xenothreat and it turns into a slideshow is where it gets nasty.
@@ufeelinselfrighteous8470 what GPU and CPU and amount of RAM does your "all the bells and whistles" include? I know pre-built systems cut corners in extremely important places of gaming rigs *all the time*. My 5800x3D + 3080TI + 32gb RAM gets 40+ fps in Loreville, and that's like 3 year old tech now.
Performance has been bad for too long in Store Citizen! And we are not getting any new content until they improve it cause servers are shit, with 1200 people we should expect frequent patches that gives us improvements and content! So far this year we got half a patch in 7 months!
Six blades per node isn't surprising. Darkfall Online started with 80 blades (1600sqkm seamless world with FPS combat) and later brought it up to 120 blades. It was around 3-5 blades per node.
34:06 My idea of understanding this concept from CIG would be to create an influx of hope from console only players to upgrade an old min spec PC with hope or buying an older used PC with those specs… before I discovered SC, Elite Dangerous did this. I own a license for Xbox and 3 licenses for a PC thinking my pc could play it …
The conclusion was I was enlightened to never believe the minimum requirements specs because my pc for that game when ED came out was good but an absolute power point slide show … they got me 😒
They're not only just now STARTING to concern themselves with client performance. They've been working on it - and improving it - for years. It's that now their biggest efforts are starting to arrive.
There is another point that is missed in this. I am sure that is plenty of "optimization" to come. Once the game is finalized them optimization will start as with most in development games. I know it is an old comment by now but we are playing a game in the Alpha state while it is still being build and features added. Most players never see a game in the development stage Star Citizen is in. I don't mean to take anything from the conversation that was had here but optimization was not brought up.
Looking at Steam analytics, the most common resolution by a country mile (lapped the field kinda mile) is 1080p and the most common framerate is 60fps. Anyone thinking they will be playing Star Citizen (the MMO) at anything above 60fps needs to have their head examined. And 60fps will be the luxury resolutuon if your system can handle it. I don't know anyone who actually thinks they will be playing SC at 100fps like some kind of battle royale or Call of Duty game, and if they are expecting that they are just fooling themselves. With all of the asset fidelity, potentially 30-50 players all running around, small to capital ships parked nearby, visual effects; ... in what universe would you expect all of this at 100fps? Are you playing in 480p on the lowest settings?

Honestly, CPU prices arent that bad. They havent really inflated much as all other components. Whats putting me off from upgrading my 10700k is the motherboard prices. I have a z490 Godlike from MSI. Its a really nice mobo. Id have to get a much lower tier mobo in the current chipset gen if i wanted to spend the same amount of cash. Id still want to spring for a #90 chipset though if a decent enough deal appeared. But right now its meh.

I mean no other game has had as many free to play events as Star Citizen, it’s always hard to recommend because you really don’t want to get to that point where you ask your friend to mess with their paging file. I’ve only had one successful recommendation for a friend to play SC and they already had an insanely over the top laptop so it wasn’t such a big deal The game is much smoother now but the truth is you need 32GB of RAM and this doesn’t come up enough but you need a STRONG internet connection, if you lag you WILL get a GPU hung error because your GPU took too long to respond to the game because of the lag 🤦♂️
I run a i9900K and 3080ti with 32gb of ddr4 ram on a 1440p monitor with nearly everything maxxed out and in populated areas it feels like the frames for me hover around 30fps and dip/increase in certain areas around those ports. Everywhere is feels like +60fps though.
Vulcan dosent have Multithreading yet, thats why we saw nothing from it. The cpu usage still the major probleme until we get proper multithreading. And thats why people waited for Vulcan because people admited that multithreading come along it, but it was delayed.
tbh to release furth squadron games the heavy work, the features and ships and assets would already be done. So they coudl release a sequel with assets that they built for the mmo in no time. Just write a script, create some missions and bam done. Just expansion after expansion.
It won't, and not its purpose. Meshing is to help the server performance from tanking, so NPCs aren't going brain dead and/or players teleporting all over.
@@FreebirthBoccara Then why did I lose 10 fps when they added the new UI and Helmet UI's ( on the same pc ). Bragging about going from 10 fps to 15 fps is a non sequitur. Ai still doesn't work, server fps and performance is absolutely unacceptable.
Great discussion! it is refreshing to see a critical critique of a good game with too much petty and unnecessary feature creep that causes problems with optimation with every new addition. Optimation problems will continue for SC as long as CR ( my hero) wakes up each morning wanting to add something new, and everybody jumps. We will be having this same disussion 5 yrs from now. CIG needs to optimize their game by 1.0 (released shortly after 4.0)) then continue with additions. to 1.0.

What am I missing? 36:56 '...people will accept...' Yes, I know, more fps is better. That's obviously true, but why would a person look at a game and not play it because it's at, say, 80fps and not 120? Or criticize it because of whatever that number is AS LONG AS the game is playable, using a reasonable definition of 'playable'. Of course, trying to get people to agree to the meaning or definition of any subjective term is hard. I think in this case it might be like, "Playable is that animation is smooth enough so that I can engage in PVE and PVP effectively." Is 60fps really UNplayable? From a technical point of view, and depending on which research you see, science (yes, science) says the human eye can detect frames at either between 30-60fps or between 60-90fps. Some research suggests that training or truly enormous hours of playing can result in that detection being at a higher value. People can be trained or so exposed to those high frame rates that they can start to see frame effects at higher values, but does that mean the game is UNplayable? For the gaming public, we might use the highest research value (90fps) and make a reasonable claim that anything over 100fps cannot be discerned by the average, normal player. Somewhere below that, we can start to see frame effects. But, again I ask, at what point does noticing frame effects really make the game UNplayable? Getting the game to 30-45fps would be a good place to target. CIG has stated their goal to be about 30 and given today's technology and what they are trying to do, that seems like a good place to target for now. I know *I* want that target. I am more than a little tired of momentary server glitches while I'm trying to fight NPCs where I get shot during a pause because I couldn't move...
Why do so many people keep saying squadron willl be on console... who habe they hired to port it? Wich team is working on that. And if they havnt started why not? It would take a signifkcant ammout of time to start doing that. But they havnt ahown any ammount of work towards it. And not just publicly. But if they hired a SINGLE developer fhat was specialized in porting to console.. it would be massive news. Half the co.munity would have this persons resume memorized ....
Performance for me usually hovers round the 30fps mark, I don’t care about anything but smooth combat, it could be better at higher gps but if I can have a non stutter interaction with enemies I’m all good for now I just hate the running, as you feel like your running whilst being tied to a rock, it’s very irritating

hey space 🍅, ive never personally understood why everyone treats the cumulative sum put into the game like its an annual one. if the game cumulatively made 600 million, thats 50 Mill a year throughout. i know they weren't taking in that much in the beginning, and taking into account inflation 50 mil/year is a pretty small studio. gta5 is a billion dollar franchise inits own right, and makes more per year than CIG makes on this game. waving the cumulative number around like is done gives the impression CIG should have more money than it does. my impression is most of that money came in the last 3 years. prior to that it was just a 150-200 mill hole, so for us to talk like they've got bank seems absurd. if payroll was 40k x 600peeps +(20 x 500k execs) = 34mil a year, with no other expenses. the 150mil plus they made the last 2 years probably only gives them a 18 month cushion at best, its likely 9 to 12 months. thats probably why they're upsizing in Manchester and Montreal versus LA or even Austin. i think there's talent in those places, they just can't afford to pay them what the market demands. i also think its hard to make a Non US game in the US. money aside, i don't have a problem with the money, and most people complaining are using it as a literal 'red herring,' an indicator of a problem for which they have no other evidence. i hope this year they pull in 300mill so it can be a nice round billion. they won't, but maybe then we can pretend a billion dollars is a lot of money today. BTW Adobe systems inc. made 19.4 billion last year, and its not a very big software company.
6core ( 6/12 ) / 8GB vram / 16 GB C16 / M.2 is a realistic rig for Low settings in SC at 1080p. The official min recommendation is way too out of date for the current engine. This Low Settings/mid tier rig is performant enough for solo play but anything less than a high end rig will stutter and have performance problems with Event gameplay in the 'verse. Vulcan for AMD GPU's should fix the dx11/amd gpu problems.
Um 8600k...6gig vram on a 1660 super ti gen 2. 32 gig of ram and installed on SSD...m.2 is usually not implemented right. Without a x16 lane to itself sata is just as fast. The real issue is how well your memory controller can facilitate offloading your l2 cache. I run on max settings and my frames run 30-80 depending on if there's a storm or not. Server fps being low is the issue.

Now i get with a 12 Core 7900x 7900xtx 24 vram 64 gigs of super fast ram at say 7000 speed nvme at 7000 write and read speeds , i get now in space in star citizen over 80 with Volkan API on planets and about 150 fps in space . by 2030 star citizen will easily Break right though on my pc into 120 fps on planets and always at 180 fps in space . when 32.3 first came out i was getting in space on a 30fps server about 200 fps in space for 3 hours . right when people started to join it drop to about 140 fps in space . also i have see that when server fps is at 30 fps its great fps on my end but once the server gets over 50 players my fps drops with the server fps , not sure whats going on with that part but its happen a lot . in 2026 i will do another massive upgrade in November of that year maybe a whole new pc . but with the economy i say we are all porked in the usa right now
“I don’t care aBout performance” excuse me what 5 or less/atuttering during a dogfight isn’t a why don’t I have 120 dps issue; it’s a playability issue.
It worries me a lot that you've made a video about performance with a guest that understands very little about hardware and how StarEngine works, worse yet feels like he doesn't even see the tech talks about the engine side stuff that have been out for months. I've seen his channel, I've known him for years now, I always *facepalm* at most of his content and nowadays I just completely dismiss it, as I know what to expect. **He's incredibly misinformative.** I'm very surprised you actually have him as a guest, I'm even more **dismayed** at the usual, he didn't bring forth accurate and pertinent information about the topics you discussed, especially on the performance and hardware/software parts he actually said (once again) things that are plainly false. This person has no idea what he's talking about, he made up a few videos recording performance with SC and now he's talking about game engine performance like he knows his stuff, he doesn't...
So much of the processing is being done at the server end that it doesn't matter how good your PC is or how well optimized the code is. The server load is always the bottleneck. Once you get a few dozen players on the same server, it runs like ass. And it always will do.
I only have 64gig I9 14900k and a 4090. I get 100 to 150 ^^.. and ye I take every chance I can to flex my build because I payed for it with my life :P O did I mention playing on over 4k 32:9 aspect ratio no upscaling. Keeping DX11 untill I see Vulcan improve.
lorville 63fps? WTF... Don't lie. i have a 7950 and 4070 ( and 64GB ram ddr5) and lorville with luck i reach 40fps. Ohh sure it's the fault of my equipment that doesn't reach 3k or 4k dollars....
Sounds about right especially if you're bottlenecked by your CPU. The 7950 has a low benchmark ranking and is only a 3GB card (SC will use around 8.5GB of video memory on cards that can hold that much). The base 4070 ranks in the 20s for benchmarks. I have a 14700k/4070 Ti Super (16GB)/64GB RAM and get 55-85ish while in Lorville. Flying into the city can drop down to the mid 30s when lots of ships are parked outside, though. Part of the frame issue while in ships is that the HUD is using Flash. Takes up a ton of resources. The Connie cockpit when turned on will drop 30-40 frames... They are changing it to another solution in the near future. The reality is that this game needs an expensive PC to play at higher frames. The graphic fidelity and number of processes going on are both extremely high for an MMO.
i dont care if it run 300 fps... its so boring and its turning into an arcade cultist delusional mess... once you have seen the graphics there is no reason to stick there maybe for you because you made money about it but i dont care anymore about this crap.. you guys dont even know what you are talking about.. being a content creator dont make you hardware expert you just repeat what you hear from others content creators...
If the hwt the game to a consistent 60 fps in a busy area then that will be an accomplishment. Obviously 5% or less of gamers woll whine about it not bwing higher. But everyone else will be perfectly happy if they can do that on a half decent computer.
The PU is an alpha release it is literally false to say they have released nothing. There are 3 types of releases alpha, beta & retail. The biggest voices in Star Citizen lie and say "they haven't released anything" and outsiders believe that thousands of people don't play and have fun with the game. They think e are backing and not playing that's why they call it a scam.
Great to see £10.42 on 😁he the place to go for Frames per Second stuff and to find out if your PC will run SC or not One thing though Space when talking about GTA6 and that Budget Rockstar set it to $2Billion which is 3 time that of SC and SQ42. people are surprised as my FB2042 friends take the mick out of playing SC and the £££ I have put into the game thats taken 12 years to make. I point them to GTA6 and it shuts them up and starfield too. they still think that games are made on a $500,000 budget LOL
What about the elephant in the room? They only got permission to release one game with the game engine.... So if they release SQ42 There's no guarantee that SC will have permission to be released. And I dont know about you guys, But the $400 + I've given to SC was for SC, A multi-player game. I wouldn't give that much money towards some single player campaigne BS.
Sq42 will be there just to empeach peoples to refund if the PU fail.. like this you will have a single player and wont be able to refund the Pu you paid for...
TenPoundFortyTwo honestly grinds my gears. He does EXTREMELY poor performance tracking methods and doesn't understand his own results properly. Spreads a lot of misinformation and invalid results.

I use it at x2 and it doubled my FPS, went from 35-40 at stations to 70-90 or even 130 (I have a 144 hz monitor). Can’t recommend it enough, fixed my performance issues I had for years with this game. (I’m on an 2080ti, 9900k)
Nice, He is my go-to guy for performance tips!!
The truth is frames are great until you do anything mmo-like. When it’s single player esque…no issues.
nah that's not the truth.
the truth is, my 1 year old Gaming PC with all the bells and whistles struggles to get 50 FPS at low settings, and in stations or cities, I get 20 FPS.
That's terrible, by any measure of modern gaming.
@@ufeelinselfrighteous8470
Putting the settings to low is the worst thing you can do. Turn your settings to high and you will get better performance.
its still missing multicore support and the game is only half cooked. his statement of single player stuff is fine is accurate. just cuz you throw anything less than 60 fps in the trash can don't mean someone else has no issues playing.
Yes it is, game used to be unplayable for me, now it’s playable
30 fps is playable fps that goes from 5-60 Is not. Stuttering is a way bigger problem than low fps.
Love a good Hardware chat! 😎
I loved this coop! Thanks Tomato!
On a different topic: seems like the camera didn‘t like that shirt too much @Tomato hahaha
Thanks for this. Now I think I might upgrade my 10yr old i7 now instead of upgrading my video card this year.
Regarding sq42... I feel that squadron will be an all platforms release.
Interesting thought, SC will release when the hardware to run it decently is much improved and available at a reasonable price
I don't know about reasonable.... but maybe available. GPU prices are still stupidly inflated, and NV's pivot "AI" isn't gonna help that.
well, apparently we're going to get another server meshing test tomorrow :-)
Coop squadron 42 would be amazing

I was fine, until I tried to go to Loreville, then I had no frames at all, it was like playing in a slide show.
Doesn't really matter. Three times now I've had my ship blow up immediately after exiting the hangar. I'm waiting for the next patch. If 3.23.2 doesn't do it for me I'll wait for 4.0... after which they won't have any excuses left.
I mean no other game has had as many free to play events as Star Citizen, it’s always hard to recommend because you really don’t want to get to that point where you ask your friend to mess with their paging file.
I’ve only had one successful recommendation for a friend to play SC and they already had an insanely over the top laptop so it wasn’t such a big deal
The game is much smoother now but the truth is you need 32GB of RAM and this doesn’t come up enough but you need a STRONG internet connection, if you lag you WILL get a GPU hung error because your GPU took too long to respond to the game because of the lag 🤦♂️
I won't be suggesting my friends play for a while still lol
my laptop lags and it has a 3080 64gb ram
I get great frames using 11400f and a 3050 it was a cheap option and I have little to no issues running the game.
I run a i9900K and 3080ti with 32gb of ddr4 ram on a 1440p monitor with nearly everything maxxed out and in populated areas it feels like the frames for me hover around 30fps and dip/increase in certain areas around those ports. Everywhere is feels like +60fps though.
lol 30 fps will never act like 60 fps
Right before release they're going to comment out all of the sleep calls in the client code
I plan on upgrading my MoBo this year AM5 looks promising
Vulcan dosent have Multithreading yet, thats why we saw nothing from it. The cpu usage still the major probleme until we get proper multithreading. And thats why people waited for Vulcan because people admited that multithreading come along it, but it was delayed.
Not just multithreading but dynamic server meshing, too. I suspect they’ll need both in place (plus optimizations) for real progress.
@@rolinthor server meshing is server side, i talk about client performance
@@Kellar_ Supposedly, there are some client-side benefits from dynamic SM as well. So I have read, anyway.
tbh to release furth squadron games the heavy work, the features and ships and assets would already be done. So they coudl release a sequel with assets that they built for the mmo in no time. Just write a script, create some missions and bam done. Just expansion after expansion.
Great conversation, thank you!
Dynamic server meshing will help with performance and fps?
It won't, and not its purpose. Meshing is to help the server performance from tanking, so NPCs aren't going brain dead and/or players teleporting all over.
@@freelancerthe2561Actually, CIG thinks it will help client-side FPS as well. We’ll see.
Doesn’t matter what they add in game when it runs at 7fps

Then why do i have more frames on the same pc?
@@FreebirthBoccara Then why did I lose 10 fps when they added the new UI and Helmet UI's ( on the same pc ). Bragging about going from 10 fps to 15 fps is a non sequitur. Ai still doesn't work, server fps and performance is absolutely unacceptable.
Dont forget selling refined or salvage cargo in cities.
CIG needs to optimize their game by 1.0 (released shortly after 4.0)) then continue with additions. to 1.0.
Not sure my fps but I don’t rilley lag unless the servers are runing bad I’m runing amd 5 core 2500 cpu 1 st gen and a rtx 2500 grapic card and 32 gigs of ram
Have you done testing on the rog or other potables. I use a gpd winmax2 I believe it's comparable
I have better overall performance in cities, but everywhere else the FPS is genuinely worse compared to 3.22.
Performance for me usually hovers round the 30fps mark, I don’t care about anything but smooth combat, it could be better at higher gps but if I can have a non stutter interaction with enemies I’m all good for now
I just hate the running, as you feel like your running whilst being tied to a rock, it’s very irritating

hey space 🍅, ive never personally understood why everyone treats the cumulative sum put into the game like its an annual one. if the game cumulatively made 600 million, thats 50 Mill a year throughout. i know they weren't taking in that much in the beginning, and taking into account inflation 50 mil/year is a pretty small studio. gta5 is a billion dollar franchise inits own right, and makes more per year than CIG makes on this game. waving the cumulative number around like is done gives the impression CIG should have more money than it does.
my impression is most of that money came in the last 3 years. prior to that it was just a 150-200 mill hole, so for us to talk like they've got bank seems absurd. if payroll was 40k x 600peeps +(20 x 500k execs) = 34mil a year, with no other expenses. the 150mil plus they made the last 2 years probably only gives them a 18 month cushion at best, its likely 9 to 12 months. thats probably why they're upsizing in Manchester and Montreal versus LA or even Austin. i think there's talent in those places, they just can't afford to pay them what the market demands. i also think its hard to make a Non US game in the US.
money aside, i don't have a problem with the money, and most people complaining are using it as a literal 'red herring,' an indicator of a problem for which they have no other evidence.
i hope this year they pull in 300mill so it can be a nice round billion. they won't, but maybe then we can pretend a billion dollars is a lot of money today.

You sure do buddy.

lorville 63fps? WTF... Don't lie. i have a 7950 and 4070 ( and 64GB ram ddr5) and lorville with luck i reach 40fps.
Ten pound is the channel that I based my pc specs on.
If the hwt the game to a consistent 60 fps in a busy area then that will be an accomplishment. Obviously 5% or less of gamers woll whine about it not bwing higher. But everyone else will be perfectly happy if they can do that on a half decent computer.
Nothing is going to delay 4.0
It's an IAE patch, those don't get delayed. Only content can get cut from it.
Hej ftfc you tell? You know dlss not workin? All bags and broke
Threadripper = 80+ FPS pretty much everywhere...
Still only a single rendering thread so you are not getting the performance that your cpu is capable of.
Great to see £10.42 on 😁he the place to go for Frames per Second stuff and to find out if your PC will run SC or not
One thing though Space when talking about GTA6 and that Budget Rockstar set it to $2Billion which is 3 time that of SC and SQ42. people are surprised as my FB2042 friends take the mick out of playing SC and the £££ I have put into the game thats taken 12 years to make. I point them to GTA6 and it shuts them up and starfield too. they still think that games are made on a $500,000 budget LOL
3.22 was better.
Colab of the centuryyyyyy
What about the elephant in the room? They only got permission to release one game with the game engine.... So if they release SQ42 There's no guarantee that SC will have permission to be released. And I dont know about you guys, But the $400 + I've given to SC was for SC, A multi-player game. I wouldn't give that much money towards some single player campaigne BS.
Sq42 will be there just to empeach peoples to refund if the PU fail.. like this you will have a single player and wont be able to refund the Pu you paid for...
