The character of Daemon, who is the prince's uncle and of course brother to the king, is very complex... You ask why do they like him? Well, because he isn't evil by any means, specially towards his loved ones and specifically towards Rhaenyra who he cares about particularly, and therefor they are very close... not a great guy if you find yourself against him, but not evil in that sense.
He is indeed hardcore and a fighter, certainly with a taste for blood and a very short fuse; but he isn't causing harm or being cruel just for the sake of being cruel... Like they showcase this episode with the issue of the Gold Cloaks and what they did: Daemon was indeed making a hardcore spectacle or example and was definitely bloody; but it was for justice and security, we can talk about the legality of it or how can you be sure that those people were criminals, but the overall point is that he is doing that for "the good of the city and the realm"... So he isn't sadistic or evil without reasons, he is just much more aggressive and combative than his brother, the king, who in turn is seen as quite calm and learned but also WEAK by those who seek to take advantage of him, which is why in turn Daemon is the "edge of the knife" sort of speak.

"Over the centuries, House Targaryen has produced both great men and monsters. Prince Daemon was both. In his day there was not a man so admired, so beloved, and so reviled in all Westeros. He was made of light and darkness in equal parts. To some he was a hero, to others the blackest of villains."
      -Archmaester Gyldayn
Imo, grey characters are way more entertaining than one-dimensional "pure good/evil" characters. They're more complex and more realistic.

Even in Black Panther, the father tell T’Challa that is hard for a good man to bee a king. The fact Vicerys doesn’t ride dragons and may even fear them...that’s a problem. 1 Daemon obviously doesn’t possess.

I hope you realize in the birthing scene there was no way for the mother to survive it was either both dead or only mother dead. So in difficult situation i think viserys took the right decision by atleast trying to save one life and i think the reason he didn't tell her was because there was not enough time to convince her for any such procedure and they already gave her eough poppy seed that can be given without danger i mean you have to remember these are medievel times and not modern medicine wher such incidents are a rare occurence so it was a very difficult choice and definitely not the one he wanted to make but rather need to make, quite similar to the choice of succession of the throne where he did not want to make the choice between his brother and his daughter but he had to, eventually .

It wasn't a choice between the baby and the wife for Viserys. It was the choice between trying to save the child or losing both anyway. And there was really no way to ease the process. They couldn't sedate her, that option is only available with modern medicine. She was already drugged as far as they dared as the maester mentioned. Any realistic attempt to put her out would result in an almost certain failure of the attempt to save the child.

Okay? It was still cruel. He was a piece of shit husband and king in that moment. Instead of being a man and talking to his wife, he lied to her and butchered her. It was murder whether you want to admit it or not

@@justbeyondmythoughts She's dead either way. And she dies painfully either way. No way around that. And they were out of time and options. It's not murder, it's medical necessity. Now the decision not to tell her beforehand is problematic for me as well, true. It's a horrific situation either way, though, and it's very clear Viserys *thought* not telling her of her imminent and painful death was the better option and he clearly made the decision out of love. I disagree with it myself, but it's hard to judge someone's reactions under this much stress.

Yup, Aemma will die either way. Had they not done C-section, the baby that's already due can kill a mother inside and it'll die along with her. And doing C-section is still gonna kill her because of the resulting bloodloss, it's medieval times and the method is still unheard of and there's still no blood transfusion.

But no, a woman doesn't get a say what happens to her own body, even till this day. It's supposed to be her choice is she wanted a painful and cruel death or not. Viserys isn't a bad man, a bad father, or a Bad king. It was horrible what happened to his wife yes but you have to remember, this is medieval era medicine we're dealing with. Outside of mercy killing her and then cutting out the child there wasn't much they could do. They were in a horrifying predicament and saving the baby was the only way any life would be saved out of it. But sadly it was all for naught anyway

You should go ahead and watch GOT seasons 7 & 8. & isn't as bad as 8. You should know why people think it's bad. Not everyone agrees w/ that assessment. Mostly they were rushed and crammed into the 2 seasons when it would have been better w/ 4-5 seasons. The show runners wanted to finish and move on to a Disney project that got canceled after the fact. You don't have to make a reaction for them. Just give them a fair viewing to see what happened for reference sake.

You should really give it a try, go finish the series. Why rely on other people to determine your own opinion? If you still hate it, at least you'll know why. But you might actually enjoy it. Why deny yourself that possibility? And even if you still hate it, there are parts that even the haters love, there's the music, the cinematography, the acting - even if you hate the writing, the actors are still the same. 😊

There is no rule for hitting in the back in combat. Daemon shouldn't have starting bragging about his victory before his opponent yielded.
Only one criticism for the show. The dragonfire on the pyres didn't look very good. Given how dragons are prominent in the show, their dragonfire needs work.
"At least give it a week, jesus." Umm, Cersei's actions to take the Throne for Joffrey started within the hour. There is no waiting a week when there are others would might strike quickly. IRL history shows the same.
There is one warm blooded lizard alive today. The ichthyosaur was likely warm blooded as well, and there were probably other dinosaurs that were too. So why not a warm blooded dragon. It would be a must for them to operate in colder temperatures.

The fact that you people try to justify the cruel and selfish act is just disgusting. In a way, it's a tragic tale and fact that people would disregard the welfare of the woman or wishes of a woman if it meant potential saving a life. Like, what about the woman. Utterly disgusting

Daemon, it appears can be brutish.
I questioned whether I would like this series. I'm up to the 3rd episode. It has potential, but I'm not sold on it just yet.
Yes, someone can die in a tourney, but it is not supposed to be the goal. Love that you "hope that the horse is okay"
I caught a glimpse of someone else having pointed out it isn't a choice of which to save, if they do nothing, the baby will almost certainly die with the mother, if they act, they may be able to save the child, and they've already medicated her as much as they could without killing her or the baby anyway. [I mention that I saw the comment because I would bring it up anyway, but I'm late to the show.]
I was very disappointed in the first episode, largely because it has so much to live up to, and I understand, because they are trying to give so many "brand new" characters enough introduction and development, in so short a time. So, when I watched this episode, I was disappointed, ut understanding of exactly why. If they had done a 90-140 minute premier, they could have done so without so much being forced into tiny little cupboards.

She'd been building to that for a while. Granted, she has a lot of nice qualities, but she'd been building to that for quite a while.
As for the other plot points, that's a matter of opinion. I understand some were not going to like it, but I also understand that the writers and show runners had a difficult task and did what they could within the parameters of what they were instructed to do. They were ordered to wrap things up and they did it in the best way they could. If you're going to blame anyone, blame the execs at HBO.
There are a lot of other series I've followed that concluded things in a way that disappointed me. It is what it is. I never read the books, so to an extent, I don't know what I'm missing, but since George RR hasn't even finished writing them anyways, it's not like I'm missing out on anything. Everyone got so butt hurt and melodramatic about the last seasons. I mean, was it a mind blowing ending? No. Did it end the way I would've liked to have seen it end? No, but it made story sense, and it wasn't like it was that God awful either. Sure, it could've been better, but everything could be better, and everyone is going to have their own opinion of what that would be. It's still Game Of Thrones. I don't understand the over reaction and dedication to books that don't exist yet, and that no one knows what they'd even be. If your truly a fan of the show, for better or worse, how can you still not want to see what happened. Just watch the last couple seasons already. I love it too, but it's just a TV show. Nobody's killed your mother. You're not always going to get everything in life just as you want it. Sometimes life is just mediocre at best. Gosh! This isn't directed at you specifically, but some people need to grow up, and grow some perspective. If their worlds are this destroyed by a TV show not living up to their highest expectations, then life is going to be really tough! Just watch it! You might be a little bummed out, but it'll still be fun sometimes too.

I've read the books and they're so, so much better than the show and I love the show. I've read thousands of books including most of the classics from Shakespeare to Dickens to doestoyevsky to Vonnegut and ASOIAF are some of my absolute favorites despite not having the final books. It's literally a thing were somewhere around the end of the third book/beginning of the fourth you suddenly realize there's an entire story going on beneath the story you thought you were reading and a whole different world and whole different story opens up. I've never read anything like them. They are truly brilliant.
As for the show, it's not how they finished it, it's that they threw away everything that made it great. Nothing was earned, nothing felt realistic, and nothing followed the logic of the first 6 seasons. That's why people hate them. Not what happened but how the story was told.

@@billhicks6449 fair enough. I get all of that, but let's put things in perspective. How much of it do you think was that, and how much of it do you think was some very vocal detractors that got a little carried away, and then the multitude of people that just jumped on the bandwagon for their enjoyment of just being irate and angry, and having a target to aim it at? To each their own. If that's how you feel, don't watch it, but do you legitimately believe that as inadequate as you believe it to be, that it's so horrible that people that already invested years in to it, shouldn't even bother to find out for themselves and firm their own conclusions?

@@richiecabral3602 not at all. One should definitely watch it if one wants to, but having watched it I do consider the 6th season the last "real" season of GOT. For whatever that's worth. And honestly the seeds of it's downfall are sown in the 6th season as well.
I'll give you an example. In the books (as it should have been in the show) Euron Greyjoy is way, way worse than Ramsey Bolton could ever dream of being. He's literally an apocalyptic anti-christ. when we leave him in the books hes sailing the world with his crew, all of whom have had their tongues ripped out, capturing holy men from every religion. It's implied he means to sacrifice them in some sort of dark ritual meant to raise a lovecraftian god that will break the world with Euron as his... well we don't know what... He's openly admitted to sexual assaulting his younger brothers their entire childhood and has now tied naked his wife to the bow of his ship because he thinks it'd be fun to slowly torture her to death. Now compare that to the Euron we get in the show.
And yes, some of the blowback is because the internet hates everything, but a lot of it is because D&D obviously took a dump in a coffee mug, threw it against the wall and called it seasons 7&8.

These shows go way too far. I want to be entertained, not subjected to a medieval c-section. Like jesus christ, do people enjoy this? The story might be great, but I'm not down to watch more of this just to see the 10 minutes of actual story in the show.
