I'm sure your parents aren't always thrilled with your life choices but I love them for loving and supporting you just as you are.
My ex and I had a 20 yr age gap (41 & 21) and were together for 6 1/2 yrs...he wanted to move to Canada, and I didn't, since my daughter lives here...and he decided that was something he had to do...so I wished him well, drove him to the airport, gave him a huge hug and watched him leave...while crying. I visited him up there once...but it was obvious he had moved on. His age made him want more adventures, and my age wanted a more settled life near my family. I wish you well!!!

I like how you said that you hung out for over a year before becoming official. I did that with my boyfriend too. Some people were saying it was weird we didn’t officially become a couple for so long. And that if didn’t happen in the first few months, it wasn’t ever going to. But it was our relationship that was developing, their opinions were irrelevant.

Totally get it (wanting to keep private on relationship stuff). Introducing a boyfriend to family and friends is a must, but way different then introducing a new cast member on a world-wide tv show. Good luck with the age gap relationship. The age difference can definitely pose some unique problems, but there is no reason you shouldn't be able to work things out. My husband was 22 and I was 44 when we started dating. That was 14 years ago.

That's really cool that your parents are cool with him being 20 years older than you. I was 14 years older than my ex wife and her mother and my sister were the same age. But I got along well with the family and still communicate with her grandmother on a fairly regular basis. It's not that weird to not fight. In the 13 years we were together I could probably count the number of fights on one hand. And this was with a woman who I also worked with and for long periods she was either in the next cube over or just across the aisle. I've been chatting with (and dated once) a 27 year old guy. So at 52 this video gets me kind of hopeful.

Love the Q&A session… don’t worry about the age difference… my first husband and I were 28 years apart. When we met I was 18 and he was 47… I was studying for the priesthood for the diocese of Buffalo and he was married to a woman. We met and the rest is history. We spent the next 25 1/2 amazing years together until he passed away. I’m happy to say that this year my second husband and I will be celebrating our 12th anniversary together. Never worry what other people think. LOVE IS LOVE. I’m so happy for you both

I can relate to him wanting his privacy, as I'm a similar age and back when we were getting into the internet (pre-social media!) when we were younger than you are now, it was a very much a "stranger-danger" thing. You never gave your real name out if you had any sense, you had a handle. Such habits are difficult to lose for some people (as you can see from my own handle here!), so I can relate to it. I know things are different now for your generation nowadays, but that's potentially a big difference between young-Gen-X / older-Millennial and Gen Z.
Since he's the less comfortable of the two of you about the social media thing, go at his speed with regards to sharing info about him or you both. You don't have to share things about him, it's enough for us to know that he makes you super-happy.
My husband to be was 22, and I was 42 when we met! I have been shamed on UA-cam for our age difference. However, we have been together for 10 years now. Do the math does that gap mean that much now?
