Hi, you seem like a true professional! Where are you based? I have an issue on my vw up where I believe the clutch release bearing has failed but the car has only done 33k and doesn't affect the running of the vehicle. Whats your opinion on changing the clutch and release bearing? The noise is very annoying. Would be cool to find a trustful mechanic at a food price 😇👍🏽
Thank you, that is very kind of you to say. If you are sure its the release bearing, i would recommend to change it now before it gets worse or fails completely. If your paying to remove the gearbox to replace the bearing, i would advise changing the clutch and pressure plate at the same time. Unfortunately i am not in a position to carry out any work for viewers, however i will happily try and answer any questions that i am able to.
The release bearings go pretty quick in the ups i just got a new clutch on mine and its only done 48k but the previous owner rode the clutch to death took it kwik fit they quoted 500 and it was 500 for new clutch car drives sweet and silent
@@ford873 thank you for your reply. I will take your advice and change the complete kit. Im more about prevention rather than the cure 😎👍🏽. Sadly finding a decent mechanic is like finding a needle in a haystack! You again seem to be awesome. 🙏🏽
@@finhouston7500 hi thanks for the information. Glad to hear it solved your problem, hope the same for me too! 😇 just wondering, isnt £1000 a bit too much for the job? I've managed to find a complete clutch kit from LUK who seem to have a decent reputation for parts.. I could no way afford £1k in our current climate for a clutch. In any case, glad to hear you UP is running sweet!
@@amjrashid it was 500 in total pal run like brand new you could do it yourself for a lot cheaper but i didnt fancy dropping a gear box on the driveway bit too uncomfortable for me
I would think it would be to do with the clutch or release bearing. Its quite common for the pressure plates to fail on these. Although i cannot say with any sort of certainty without actually hearing the noise.
same problem on polo 999cc gearbox (0CF) in neutral (clutch pedal not pemuto) cold noise "knock knock knock", when the oil is heated or after 15/20 min the noise is almost imperceptible, I was thinking of noisy bearings?
Wow you a good man !! This gearbox is really simple! I drive a skoda citigo green tec start stop my gearbox is a QCJ Manual 5 Gears . I have 136.000 km on the clock When i acceleration with 2300 and 3000 revultions in a mintute i hear a ornamental noise. I dont now is thats a gearbox? Or coupling or the Single mass flyweel? Thank for you Feedback you can make a video of german language? You can look in my Chanel i have uploading a video from the noise Thank you

Well, book time is around 5 hours to drop the box out, then probably another 2-3 hours to strip & rebuild. It all depends on what you find once the box is open. That is book time though, so you may find someone who would agree to do it for less as they can do it quicker. Main dealer is Around £120 an hour depending on where your based.
I have the same problem with the 5th and reverse, just replaced the clutch and the mechanic told me to check the transmission oil level, because it keeps popping out the 5th gear and the reverse still makes noise, but not as much as before the clutch replacement, can you tell me where did you get the synchro? I probably need to buy it to replace it same as the video.
Good spot, no it was not cleaned. At the time the oil removed was inspected and there was no marbling or swarf in the oil. The fault was a clean break of 2 teeth from the gear which only failed due to the customer selecting the gear at the wrong time and all parts of the teeth were recovered. There was no wear of any bearings and fresh oil was flushed through the box. But yes, i would advise cleaning the box if needed.
Skoda citygo gearbox knackered, it sounds like the heat shield over the exhaust is loose , that's what the noise is like , whilst revving through the gears, have you had anything similar, ?
Are you 100% sure its coming from the gearbox? It is a really common fault for the heat shield for the exhaust to split at the front mounting point like you have mentioned. It causes the exact fault you describe.
@@ford873 how much oil should I fill in? Everybody says that 1,1 is too low. Now I have 1,3, but want to add a bit more, because still hear the rattle at cold
There is no set recommendations for changing the oil on these boxes. They are what’s considered sealed for life. The only time you would change or replace the oil is after a leak or a repair.
you make it look so easy...
The beauty of editing!
Good video, yeah I treat my gearbox with kid gloves...
Don't we all!
Hi, great video!
What’s involved in removing and refitting the input shaft bearings in the up gearbox
Thanks

My 2014 seat mii knocks only in neutral the the clutch pedal isn't being press. Could it be caused because of a broken tooth?

Hello, is the mechanical structure of the amt and mt transmissions of Volkswagen up the same except for the gear selector and clutch
Sorry I do not know.
Good video. Can you do one on clutch change VW up??
Next time i get one in i will do.

Not done one on a up yet but have done a Golf if this helps. The principle is exactly the same.
@@ford873 That's helpful thank you. And thanks for remembering me 👍
I saw the drain plug on the last vid but where is the fill plug
How much do you charge for this box fix? just wondering if the cost will be more than the car's worth!

I bought it from Volkswagen directly. I always prefer to use genuine parts with job like this. You get a two year warranty on all VW parts.
Didnt clean the inside of the box then ?
Same oil in the bottom of the case when it came apart as when it went back together

@@ford873 they completely removed the heat shield and drove the car , still the same noise, in every gear when accelerating around 2_3 revs

Hi how are you
Please WhatsApp number send me
Good afternoon, please tell me where to fill in the transmission oil in this gearbox. There is a drain plug, but no filler plug.
There is a black bung at the rear top of the box. you have to unbolt this and fill it with a funnel.
@@ford873 Thank you very much, good luck !!!
