I review the brand new 2022 Mizuno Pro Irons, the 221 iron, 223 iron and 225 iron testing them and providing my feedback on the looks, feel and performance. These forged golf irons replace Mizuno MP20 irons and look incredible! We have the Mizuno Pro 221 iron a forged muscle back blade iron, the 223 iron which replaces the MP20 MMC iron and then the new 225 HMB iron which is a hollow construction for fast ball speeds and maximum distance for longer and heighten ball flights!

Tried all 3 last week, I live in Japan. They all felt great, especially the 221. I now play the 919 forged, can't say there was any difference in feel, but I'm thinking of changing just for the looks. They rounded the top of the toe on these so the edge looks smaller. The Mizuno Pro logo has pretty much always been used in Japan on those exclusive models for Japan.
I’m a cat 1 golfer, play the 225 I’m getting on a bit now. Class irons. Explosive 😊
Demoed the 223 and 225, liked the 223 better and actually it felt better than 225 and distance was within 2-3 yards.
Great iron clubs. Perfect look. I play the MP20 (pw-7) and the MP HMB (6-5-4).Very satisfied with that clubs.
How much loft adjustments were needed for your combo set and jump to HMB? I have MP18 MBs pw-8 and SCs 6-4. Going to upgrade this year probably to 223/225 combo, but you have me intrigued with the blades to HMB idea and the aesthetics would be more seamless going 221/225.
I've seen a hater comment and thought to give my feedback. Love your Vids and content. I have been watching for a few years and always appreciate your perspective on club reviews. Cheers
223 sounds like a real winner with the blend of forgiveness and looks.
223 in long irons with 221 in short irons looks like a great combo.
221 & 225 combo set I got fitted for. 4 to 7 iron 225 8 to pw 221. 5 hcp. Easy to hit. The 221 isn’t a traditional blade by the way. It offers forgiveness. No hard to hit. Great feel
just bougt a set of 221's with the Project X LZ 6.0 and they are GLORIOUS! I will be putting keeping the 4 /5 iron in the closet and using my T Made 770 for a mixed set
I tested the 221 today and it’s BEAUTIFUL to hit! And I completely agree you get instant feedback when you miss the sweet spot! But I really liked them 👍🏻
Just got the mizuno pro 223 and so happy with this purchase. They look soo nice and they feel so pure. Also for me it was a massive upgrade as I was using 712 AP1’s
Enjoy!
How much is it bro
@@fdswenwee826 I got mine for $1600 USD 4-PW
That's exciting. What do your gaps look like with them? Any loft adjustments? Really interested in the 223s with a couple 225s at the top of the bag
Thank you for the excellent content. Quickly have become the main source of gear information in our home. Appreciate the honest reviews, in depth explanations and that smooth swing of yours!
Efficiency between 223 and 225 is identical. 223 much higher spin. I found the exact same thing at my fitting...went in thinking 225 was the club, but left with a new set of 223s. Beautiful irons.
225s offer any extra forgiveness for you though when testing them? I was thinking 223s PW-6. I could probably use a little extra forgiveness and distance with the 5 and 4 in the 225s.
How is the feel between the two? I’m stuck between these two and can’t pick no where close to get a fitting
@@1025theo I got 223s PW-6 and 225s 5-4. 223s feel better. 223s are made from the same material as the 221s in the PW-8 (1025e) so they are very buttery. Then you can feel the tech come in at the 7 (chromoly) with the feeling of the ball coming off faster. 225s still feel really good but you feel less. The 223s vs 225s feel similar in the 7 iron. 225s are super forgiving in distance if you miss hit in the lower grooves.
@@Mjwest23 how are these bad boys working out? I'm considering switching from my 2018 Apex MBs to the Pro Series Mizunos. Considering the Fli-Hi 3, 225 4 and 5is, and 223s up. No way this doesn't work out if i do my job, right?
Currently play the JPX 919s and will be testing these as soon as i can
Just plain beautiful clubs. The 223 is the one I would be looking for. Thanks
Good choice!
Nice video Michael. All three look really lovely clubs. Great design, but that what is expected from Mizuno. It would need to be the 225 for me, as it is best suited to my abilities. The 221 should be in a glass case, so pretty.
Wonderful reviews as usual. I'm not enough of a golfer for these but for those that are good enough to use these thwy could be considered a reward for your efforts. BEAUTIFUL!
Thanks 👍
Got the 921 Tours back in May but kind of wish I’d waited for the 223s. (Had MP18 sc before the 921s)
Love Mizuno irons.
Why ? If you’re playing well with the 921’s don’t fall for the marketing. If any of the makes or models was significantly better don’t you think the top tour players would all be playing them ?
@@derekwhyle1884 exactly
I'll buy those SCs, if you still have them! 😉
@@thomasveal3351 interested in my set? MP-18 blades PW-8, MP-18 SCs 7-4.
Great Reviewl Michael...Thanks...New gear, New Year, now need New MONEY......
Gaming JPX-921 Forged/Tour mix set now but have ordered 225’s 2-5 iron, 223’s 6-PW. Very excited to get them. I’ve played a lot of different irons over the years, Mizuno are the best IMHO
Low teens hcp. Attended a Mizuno demo recently. Was fit to the 225 (Project X lz 6.0), over the JPX Forged and 223. 225 launched best for me.
Please do a 223/225 combo set gapping session. Would love to see the adjustments required and how the two clubs can compliment each other!
Great video. I think this is the best review of these clubs I have seen.
Wow, thanks!
223 looks awesome! maybe I'll change back to Mizuno next season =)
Playing the MP 18 SC and want to upgrade to the 223. Gotta get over to the fitter. These things look amazing.
Same, I'm excited for this line. I have the MP18 blades in PW-8, SC 7-4. I like how the 223s are essentially the blades in the PW-8. Might consider 225s for 5 and 4. Could use the little extra pop of the 223s in the mid-top part of the bag 👍
Did you fit for yet? How'd it go?
Yes just swapped myself from the mp20 to the 223 full set.
Waiting for delivery 3-5 weeks 😤
I tried all 3. If you can hit the 223 you can hit the 221 and for me it’s so much better in terms of feel….221s are surprisingly forgiving. 223s have jacked up lofts and look like a Ping 210. Bit big too for a players iron. I’m coming from a T100 and size wise very similar to 221. The biggest improvement are the 225s….looks great and a pure distance set. Competes with 770s and 790s… but better feel.
That’s great except you’re wrong. The 223s don’t have jacked up lofts.
@@O-Heyguys a 25° 5 iron and a 28° 6 iron is a bit jacked up.
Kind Regards from México Michael. !!
Mizuno definitely make some sexy irons! The "Mizuno Pro" writing is a definite plus!
Wilson Staff Model CB 🔥🔥
STUNNNNING! Nice review as always. I still prefer the looks of the mp 20 line more, but gorgeous clubs. You lucky duck you.
Very nice review Michael! I just can’t understand why they do not make the 223 blade-like. Same with MMC. Why?
Great Review Video!, I have pre ordered 223 (5-GW), 223 all the way for me.
Same. 4-PW, traded my mp20s 3-6 hmb 7-pw blade
Love the 223
I’m thinking the same just traded 919 forged and hmb, let me know how the 223 feels
@@1025theo sensational, softer than the MP20s IMO, a lot more fun and easier to hit.
They are just an all round Better club for me and for the level I play at.. hdcap 3/4
@@georgejung5429 why the 223 over the 225?
@@BuffaloBarber24 hi mate, wow I can’t believe this conversation was over a year ago, anyways… I was going through a club change around this time and just fell in love with how the mizunos felt off the face, lovely clubs to hit, however, after hitting numerous clubs for around 2-3months, i sided with the titleist T100s, if you haven’t hit them, I advise you to give them a whirl, they are better than the 223s which for me to say that, they must be good as I’m a mizuno lover, but yeah the T100s, I couldn’t find a fault.
Easy to hit, forgiving, straight I found, easier to shape, I’ll stick with these for the next 5 years. I’m hitting the ball better than I ever have, i put it down to how these irons make me feel over the ball, which is confident.
Superbly prepared and presented as always. Great details and data with every review. Always appreciate your fantastic content. Happy Holidays !
Thank you, glad you enjoy
Awaiting my 225 to arrive, if only I was good enough for the 221 but at a 14 handicap it's not wise. Beautiful clubs and as usual a great review.
Don't sell yourself short, the less forgiving a club is, the better ball-striker you will become. 🧐
How do you like your 225?
221 or 223 would go in my bag. A combo might be best but the gapping would require some work, maybe. I love my Hogan ICONS, though!
I can’t wait to pick up a cheap used set of 921s after everyone upgrades to these lol
I have been playing the P790. I think the 223 would be a slight upgrade. The problem I have with the 790 is lack of feedback. Mizuno makes great clubs
I prefer the 221 for my game the club looks great and the distance is on average with my mp33’s. I like the smaller head also.
I got the 225’s GW - 3i, now waiting for the 221’s PW - 7i.
Will either carry both 8i’s or both 7i’s.
The 225’s are so strong lofted that I now take 8i for 175 yards (as it’s really a 7i).
I miss the forged feel around the green, I play a lot of PW - 8i partial shots & the 225 lofts confuse my short game.
Damn those 221s look sweet.
How would you compare the forgiveness of the 223s to the JPX 921 Tours? As a lefty the 223s are my only option here, and they look excellent. I’d love a compact head similar to my JPX 921 SEL set (that’s the lefty 4/5 Forged, 6-GW Tour blend from last year), with just a touch more forgiveness. I’m pretty consistent and have loved the 921s, but a heel-side miss or a thin one creeps in every once in a while.
I got fitted for 223s and mizuno is my dream iron but i guess i cant order them custom fit anymore i was told. Im a 8-12ish handicap would it be dumb to just get 221s?
921 forge is the best iron I have ever played
Great review, very thorough
I originally bought the JPX 923 HM Pros, thinking I’d be better off with a little more help and forgiveness…but, they are just too chunky for my likings…got re-fitted and wound up in the 221s…shocked how much better I hit them, though not as far as the 923 HMPs…but, the difference between the good and bad shots isn’t as big as the 923 HMPs….and even off center hits feel pretty good, unlike blades of yore that would sting the hands…
221 ALL DAY!!!! Nothing like a Mizzy blade..... I also believe blades make you play better anywhere south of a 10 handicap.
I have the MP20 MMC’S. Since these received the biggest facelift, is there any chance of a comparison to the new 223’s? Would like to see what the differences are. Great video!
Retro logo is 🔥 thanks for the review
It really is!
Hi Michael, always loved your videos. I’m gaming the MP69 now, I find the Pro 221 looks very similar to the MP69, just wondering how much difference in performance will the Pro 221 yield. Would be great if you can comment or do a comparative video if possible.
could you retro test the mp69's with the 221's - wonder how much has changed over 10yrs
Which would be closer to the feel of the titlest CB 714?
Would be interested to see how the 223 compares to the JPX 921 tour
I want the 223 head size with the 221 looks and finish. 😔
No idea whether to get the 221 or just a used set of MP20 blades. Mizuno blades hardly change over the years. Owned TP-9 and MP4 and Mp20 for about 4 days on loan, and hit the 221 yesterday. All, I know is that I keep going back to them hahaha. Just no idea what to stick with. Usually older blades aren't looked after well.
I was very ready love these. Meh, if you like soft feel try the Callaway Apex pro’s
Can you do a comparison between the mp25 and the 223 please? Marketing and loft aside I am guessing they are basically the same iron? Thanks
How does the blade length of the 221 compare to that of the t100?
I’ve been playing mp-54 I’m thinking about going with either jpx or 225 idk yet
I have the JPX 900 Forged and would consider the 223 & 225 Combo. Beautiful looking sticks.
I have the same set and love the look of the 225s. I might pull the trigger
I would go for the 225 with the loft of 223
what shaft, weight and flex do you play? thanks for the review!
Nice review...well done. I'm about to go through fitting, but was excluding Mizuno as an option. With these new models and your review, I'm now going to bring Mizuno in as a 4th option. Curious as to why the 225's were being pulled as much as they were, as I'm in the market for that end of the line...thanks
Maybe due to a little more offset versus the other models 🙂
@@legend9018 Makes sense!
What’s the difference between the 225 and the JPX921 HMP ?
Mike. Please do a review with 921 tour and 223 for me please ?
I am a lefty, and they are making the 223 in RH/LH. 223 would be my choice regardless.
Good to see Mizuno looking after you leftie's this year
Michael, I currently have a combo set of the MP20’s 4-9 iron. Have you tested the 225 2 iron?? I’m thinking of adding this to my bag and if it’s better than the Fli Hi model
I swing between 118-123 with the driver, scratch player. Do you think the 225 comes out too hot for me?
Any of these similar to the MP-29s?
Great video Mike. All 3 of those irons look absolutely superb. Was thinking about fitting for the 921 Forged but now really thinking about trying the 223 or even 225.
Absolutely Mark, 225 could be a great option for yourself. Fitting heads have already arrived at PGH 😬
Is the 223 the upgrade of the 919 forged?
How come you hit 4 irons more than me !!!!!! - Its a 7 wood 190 yds for me -a 6 iron for you!
I don’t know why this is, but I’ve used recently, what I would call, players irons, not tour irons. Examples are Apex, PXG P type, etc. They are really easy to hit but I am simply not accurate with them at all. When I go back to playing my old MP14s or PXG 0211 blades, I lose distance, thereby having to use the next iron up, but my ball striking gets a lot better. Do any of the commenters here have that same issue. A friend of mine says it’s a focus issue. He says I tend to really pay attention when I use blades, and when I use a club with forgiveness, I get sloppy on the swing. Anyone else have this issue?
Dammit, just wanted to get a Mizuno ST-G driver and MP-22 wedges…now I HAVE to get a mix 221/225 set to replace my MP 69s.
Why the hell not 😅
@@MichaelNewtonGolf Mizuno is like crack, Michael.....like crack I tell you. I hit the MP18s, and didn't feel they felt better than my MP69s, do my instructor used that time to fit me into Project X LZ's in 6.5....that was 3 years ago....didn't try the MP20s, but sweet xmas these look and sound good.
The best feel in the business! But why oh why do Mizuno continue to come up short for us lefties? I know it's economics, but all the other big manufacturers cater better to both sides. A combo lefty set of the 225 and 223 irons would have been a nice comparison to Callaway Apex Pro/Apex combos. Oh well back to the drawing board!
Not enough demand to justify the cost of the forging machines, likely. Sorry.
Cuz lefties aren't real people
Are any of these going to be available in left handed?
The 223 will be 👍
Hey nice review, are you able to combo 221 and the 223 irons, I would have the 223, 4,5,6 and the rest 221
yes
Nice review, Michael! They're just insanely gorgeous...all of 'em. I'm a slower-swinging low handicap, and irons are the biggest weakness in my game, so I might just wait for the next Hot Metal offering! But I could probably game that 225. The soles on the 223 and 225 look great - the relief and the beveled back edge. That's going to hit the sweet spot for a lot of players - sweepers and diggers alike.
Absolutely
Really hooked on the 223s. Would You recommend these for a hcp 10-player, (looking to get lower)?
Yes 👍
How does the blade compare to the Wilson staff blade you’ve been playing
Knew someone was going to ask that…..😅😬
221 every day of the week for me not looking for distance I'm looking for precision in shot making Mp20 I thought were glorious & still play them 221 ummm
Priced out a 3-PW of these with tour issue X100s and ended up around $2,000.00 USD. 🤕
Which are best for the mid- high handicapper?
either 223 and more likely the 225
I actually think the 225 is the best looking
Dunno if that layer of copper is worth paying what they are. The mp18's felt great and they had no copper. Feels a bit gimmicky... The copper wear mark people like just makes them look more worn, more quickly as well.
How would you compare the 225 to the p790 and t200?
225 vs P790 coming soon!
🔥
I just don’t like the “script” Mizuno Pro lettering…other than that they look great!!!
Great looking clubs! How does the Pro 223 compare to Calloway's Apex Pro irons?
The 223 Model seems to have a non aesthetically pleasing triangular after thought on the cavity back . .. . . .
Quality irons , compact shape will appeal . . .. . Excellent shaft & grip options , DNA technology and fitting is class . . .
Another brick in the wall
No 223 come with new tech
Pw 9 8 are blade
7 6 5 is another material call comoly for increase speed
HMB’s are not strong lofted like the new 225 so Michael your wrong. HMB 7 iron is 32 like the 223 is and HMB PW is 46 which is weak by todays standards.
Which bit are you referring too please?
@@MichaelNewtonGolf you said the HMB’s were stronger lofted and they aren’t. They are the same lofts as the new 223.
You said the Mp 20
HMB’s were
Strong lofted. That’s kinda incorrect .
No 225 stronger loft than 223
223 7i 32
225 7i 30
@@Obbanfield I am
Taking about MP 20 HMB’s. Michael mentioned they were strong lofted. They’re not . Mp 20 HMB is 32 degree 7 iron. Same as THIS YEARS 223. So the previous HMB isn’t strong lofted as stated .
If you're left handed it's more like no yes no 👎
223 looked consistent with 223, the other 2 look a little worrying
The price of these clubs is laughable!....seems like golf manufacturers have gone back to the daft prices of the nineties when everything was overpriced. We then had a period when prices were much more realistic.......that seems over now.
Don’t like the cursive print at all
All set with mizunos. Nice but overrated. You can still be great and overrated. Lots of great irons available from many companies. Titleist, Wilson’s and Ben hogans being my favorite
your right, plenty of good irons out there
Way overpriced if PXG can sell a premium iron for £80 an iron then so can Miizuno - The are nearer £200 - PXG have built a desirable brand at a high end price that has made the brand top end - then dropped the price back to prices from 7/8 years ago - all the other brands have been caught out and PXG will go from a niche high end supplier to a market dominant company - absolute genius by them
I doubt it, not enough big players play their clubs, this has a huge impact on the consumer.
223 just doesn’t look as good as 221s & 225s
From which angle? The back or playing position?
Hopefully you'll take this constructively. Please try and stop saying, "sort of". Makes it hard to watch your videos when you say that every 20 seconds throughout. Also, acoustic doesn't have a 'y' in the middle of it!
👍
How forgiving would MP225 be compared to Srixon ZX4?
