Venice is absolutely one of the greatest cities in the world. And, since there are no cars, bikes or scooters, you'll probably want to explore all that this city has to offer on foot (unless you want to pay 100 bucks for an hour gondola ride). We created the best walking tour of Venice, Italy (which can double as a running tour/half marathon!) so that you don't have to. But make sure you follow our secret Venice travel tip so that you can get the most out of your Venice tour day!

I loved how history was incorporated into the run. Stunning sites especially at sunrise. I had no idea no cars or trucks were allowed anywhere in the city

@@LiveHardxLoveHard There are some streets where cars can fit. Near the train station if I recall... Venice is beautiful but it is becoming fast a tourist trap deserted of natives who move out to more convenient places. It's also slowly sinking...

Walking in Venice is like walking through a maze with all of the twists and turns, and then being absolutely surprised as you discover the beauty of a courtyard or building or whatever while wandering through. Venice is such a beautiful city - one of my favorites!
Yes! Walking through a maze -- a beautiful maze -- is a perfect description. We spent 6 full days there, and every single one was just joyous. Very glad you enjoyed the humor -- we were cracking ourselves up the whole week just relaxing and having fun, and it's great to be able to share that mood with you guys. ❤️
What a beautiful city! Ok, there are a LOT of steps in Venice--OMG! And the seagulls--they are a rowdy bunch. What a great video--thanks for sharing.
OMG the seagulls were crazy, Bob. I think Elise was getting flashbacks from those nutty squirrels that attacked her in Santa Monica. But it really is a gorgeous city, and was the perfect place to spend the chill part of the honeymoon and fatten up on pasta between all that hiking!

Aw thanks very much. Venice really is awesome -- not at all like any other city, since it's been able to maintain all its original narrow streets due to a complete absence of vehicular traffic. Walking through it is like stepping back in time. ❤️
Amazing you guys, I have to say that was the best tour of Venus iv seen, I almost feel I know the place now. Really gives you a sense of the city just watching your video. All those little side streets and beautiful buildings and bridges, you guys are so funny too, always a pleasure to watch.

Yes Michael! The key is starting early in the two really touristy parts, and then once we got over to Cannaregio is wasn't crowded even though it was already about 7 am, and Castello wasn't even crowded at 8:30! It's all about starting early and going in the right order. ❤️

Exactly, Joseph! And also to be able to see all the really popular things without massive crowds. It's well worth setting an alarm, getting up early to explore, and then just taking a nap later in the day when everything is crowded. ❤

Fantastic tips and really stunning video footage in 4K! We went years ago but contended with crowds during peak times of the day. This brings back a lot of memories (but without the crowds) Thanks for sharing.
So glad to hear that, James! Venice is freaking incredible even when it's crowded, but next time you go definitely set that alarm for just before dawn and avoid all those crowds. We did it all six days we were there, and it was the best time we've ever had in a city! ❤️
The morning clouds gave you some amazing light for your shooting. And combined with the lack of crowds from your early start it was a view you almost never see. I and my camera are jealous! :D

Yes Samridhi it is SO amazing to be in a city with no motorized vehicles. It not only looks and feels different since all the ancient narrow streets and alleys still remain, but it even sounds different without any traffic noise. You really feel like you could be back in the 16th century, and it's a wonderful feeling. So glad it's on your bucket list -- and honestly, as far a cities go, we'd suggest moving it right to the top! ❤️

Visited in 2015, and we didn't do the gondolas, expensive restaurants, or tourist-trap things. It was enough just walking, walking, walking and 'being' in such a unique city. I thing the way to dodge the expensive gondola fares is to take them across the canal only (taxi)? Anyways, the total lack of cars, and car horns blasting was refreshing! Looking at a map before we started was quite intimidating given the maze of tiny streets, however the sign posts on buildings to guide people around are really clear and easy to follow. Lovely video once again!
Thanks much, and we totally identify and agree with your approach. We were there for a week, and never took a gondola 🤣. We did make one exception for an expensive restaurant, but mostly because it was our honeymoon and we felt like we should splurge on something! Other than that, though, the joy truly was just in walking, exploring, and as you say simply "being" in an incredibly unique city. ❤️
The history and facts about the city made it for me and the difference between early morning and when crowds appear is crazy - I may not ever make it there but seeing the different districts was lovely

This is not like any other European City was the first thought that popped into my head as I started viewing your video and the thought has never gone away. You have magnificently captured the heart & soul & beauty of this incredible city. With your first light approach the canals, buildings, bridges, statues, etc., are truly something to behold. If someone were to ask me if they should visit Venice, I would say absolutely, but first is a must watch video from Adam & Elise. It’ll set the entire mood while you’re visiting Venice.

It's partially just being on vacation, but Venice also has this beautiful relaxed vibe, and Italians in general are better at letting go and enjoying life every day. Nice change of pace video - did not need to hold my breath for you guys once! And great shots of the never ending city scenery. I did Florence, Italy many years ago, and it was my fave European place to visit by far. It would have been fine to just walk it (as opposed to all the jogging clips) while shooting the video , but as they say...'you do you' lol (I know you need your workout release :)

We actually did end up walking a lot of it once we got into the most confusing and windy streets because they were so hard to navigate, but running through San Marco and Dorsoduro early on was pretty nice because it got us through the most touristy parts when they were still deserted. But yes, this route would also just make a great relaxing walk, and as long as you started early and did those two first it would still be pretty uncrowded. ❤️

Yes Nicolas! We heard they often have gorgeous sunrises like this, and can now definitely say that's true because we were there for six days and had beautiful sunrises on four of them! ❤️

Thanks Tom -- yes we always laugh about how no matter what city we're visiting we always end up at the parks! But it really was amazing to walk those ancient streets with no one else around. We got up and walked around that early every morning for six straight days and never got tired of it. But not to worry -- we're back into the mountains next week! ❤️

Very glad you liked it! We just used the same cameras we take out on all our hiking adventures -- a GoPro 10 and iPhone 13 -- but together they do a pretty good job of capturing pretty still scenes (iPhone) and moving tracking shots (GoPro). ❤️
Your video certainly made this city more of a personality for me. Aside from some more recent WW1 Italian Front history, I've only really seen the usual Hollywood stuff. This was much more illuminating. Thank you.

Omg this is such a good idea! When I travel, I usually walk around in the mornings by myself and come back to my accommodation by 8-9 when everyone has gotten up. I should start running, I'd cover more ground for sure!
Haha love to hear that you are already doing dawn exploring on your travels -- it is for sure our number one rule for having a great experience in a popular place! Ya running is definitely a good way to cover a lot of ground, but honestly most days we just got up early and walked a few miles, then got cappuccinos and omelettes. Pure joy! ❤️

Danielle that's so exciting that you are planning to come west! The hiking truly is astonishing out here, and we're crossing our fingers for you too. Meanwhile, that's a great idea for a video. We do still both have day jobs, and a lot of times there's some crazy logistics that goes into planning the bigger hikes (sometimes requiring a few days of working remotely from an Airbnb both before and after the hike, like with Shasta)! ❤️

Yes!!! Leveraging jet lag is actually a term that Adam uses all the time, ever since we started doing hikes at 2am in Iceland one summer. Now we basically live by that mantra, because it just makes all the difference when visiting these beautiful European cities. Even if you have to set an alarm, it's totally worth it! ❤️

If you stepped on a big wet 💩wearing shoes, it can get slippery and you may slip. 😆 This is a very enjoyable and informative video. Haha it really was the best honeymoon we could have imagined. Six full weeks of adventure in some of Europe's most beautiful places! We just recently returned to real life, but at least we still have two more adventures to edit that will remind us how amazing it was, and then we'll get back to the Sierra for some epic Cali adventures! ❤️

I also agree that the tourist buses/trains start dumping off the tourists and by mid morning they are there. Although, I’m of the opinion that most of Venice is generally not a zoo. Just St Marks Sq, Rialto, and a few streets littered with tourist shops.

Yes Matt! Our experience on this adventure totally backed up your point about most of Venice not being overrun. Cannaregio and Castello were still totally chill even later in the morning when the San Marco and the Dosoduro where getting crowded. Very glad you enjoyed! ❤️

Thanks Andre -- very glad you enjoyed the humor in this one because we truly had the best time ever just running around and having fun! We stayed in Europe for a full six weeks, which was the first time we've ever taken so long off of work but it won't be the last. It felt like we barely scratched the surface of all the things we wanted to do over there, so hopefully will be able to go back again for another long trip next summer!
Yeah, I can imagine... But still great that you were able to stay for 6 weeks - although you needed more - it still sounds like a great honeymoon!

One of my favorite places in the world!! Quick question, how much do you to run during a typical non travel week, to keep yourselves in prime condition to do all of these amazing trail runs. Congrats on your wedding!
Thanks Brooke, and we totally agree about Venice -- it is just utterly unique and one of our favorite places too. As for training, we generally do about one 4-6 mile run a week and also one fairly long hike or climb per week (10-15 miles on average, depending on terrain). If not hiking that week we might do a 25-30 mile bike ride instead. In addition to that, we full-body train in the gym or outdoors with bodyweight exercises about 3 times a week, and take a relaxing 4 mile walk nearly every day that we don't run or hike. We've found that this schedule is enough to keep us in pretty good all around shape, but is still light enough to avoid overtraining. ❤️

Wow that trip sounds amazing, and you are right to end it in Venice -- such a great place to relax and really feel like you're on vacation! Yes there are a lot of Americans who only get 2 or 3 weeks of vacation, but we luckily get more than that and we also saved some up so we could take 6 full weeks for this trip! Needless to say, it was the best trip of our lives. Now we just have to figure out how we can get 6 weeks off again next summer! ❤️
I had visited Venice a long time ago..They had a small store near the railway station with spinach sandwiches and that was the best spinach sandwich in the world ..who knew spinach sandwich can be so good...I had searched for the similar sandwich in LA but till date haven't found it .Wonder if that store is still there..Its a unique city so enjoy

What image stabilization do you use? Is it a gimbal? It's so stable even while running!
Thank you! We actually don't use a gimbal, but Adam has learned over the years how to basically be a human gimbal by running smoothly and keeping his arm very still and flowing. If you ever saw the result of me filming him while I'm running the picture would not be pretty, so that's why I'm always the one in front of the lens on moving tracking shots! ❤️ --E
You make me think of the "Innocent-child" status we all need to return to. I admire the planning of your route to ensure maximum privacy. It's one thing to do that in nature, but to accomplish that in Venice. Wow! Thanks Angela! The best part about doing a relaxed adventure where we were neither struggling for breath nor afraid of falling was definitely having the chance to be goofy and fun. That's pretty much how we are in everyday life, and very glad you enjoyed it! As for sweating, we were definitely dripping on this one once the sun came up but we have little towels in our packs so we can wipe off our faces and thus at least appear to be in better shape than we actually are 🤣

Haha no worries. We use a GoPro 10 and an iPhone 13, depending on what shot we need. We did a video a few months ago on how to get the best shots with both cameras, if you're interested!

As my alter ego Indiana Jones said "Ahhh Venice!" Thank you for the great tour of one of my bucket list cities. Did you experience any of the day flooding that has been happening there?
Mark you are right to have this one on the bucket list! It's just so unique with having no cars, so the whole layout and vibe are similar to how it was hundreds of years ago. Fortunately it doesn't tend to flood in the summer -- that generally happens in the fall -- so we had no problems navigating the whole place. Although at some point, it might also be kind of cool to go back in November or December and see it partially submerged...

There was one park in Milan that had one of those circuit workout loops that wound through the park, and he of course had to try every machine on the loop -- especially the ones where we had no idea what they were even supposed to do 🤣

OMG Bill Adam was on point the entire week! We went to great museums and churches and he knows all about the art and artists and political and religious history as well. It was really fun to see how happy he was being there -- it is for sure his favorite city, and we will def be spending more time there in the future when we're over there and it's raining in the Dolomites! --E

Just Mad Elise, how can you run in Venise while there is no one around.. This is the most visited city in Italy.. Was looking at all the beauty of this city but frankly Elise it's quite nothing compare to the Runner... 😉😘
