Italy's Scariest Hike
Вставка

- Well, that was terrifying.
Piazzetta Piz Boe in the Italian Dolomities is consistently rated as an extremely difficult via ferrata. That's accurate - mostly because the majority of the hike is just a vertical climb up slick rock face, with few holds and insane amounts of exposure. But you know we love a good challenge!
This was one of our favorite hikes in the Dolomites, and definitely one we will never forget!
DISCLAIMER: We do not recommend attempting this via ferrata without plenty of experience and proper gear. As always, hike and climb at your own risk.

From all the piazetta videos yours is the best. Seeing your video, I (62y, m) couldn't resist trying myself. Scratched my bare legs pretty badly last Saturday, but made it and I am sooo glad.
Congratulations, Rainer! We are so happy to hear that you did this, and very impressed that you are still chasing such hard climbs at 62. It is not surprising that your legs were scratched up -- the same thing often happens to us on very hard via ferratas or class 4 scrambles, especially to our knees -- but it is totally worth giving up a bit of skin to complete such a marvelous climb. Well done! ❤️
What's next, everest? You guys are killing me, I can barely watch. What I find incredibly awesome is that you have each other to share this with. Of all your incredible experiences, I find that to be the most incredible. There are only a handful of people willing to take on these challenges, but that you found each other is really amazing. I love that.
Thanks so much -- you've definitely hit upon the essence of our good fortune. We'd both gone through so many years without ever finding a true kindred spirit that neither of us expected it to happen. But when it did, just like when hanging from these cables, we knew better than to let go! ❤️
So I’ve watched a lot of your other videos that I thought were “on the edge”… now, they seem positively pedestrian by comparison! About halfway up I was thinking “Gee, I hope there is an easier way down for them.” Always a pleasure to watch you guys. Thanks for sharing the journey with us. 🙂
Haha Gary we were hoping the same thing! There is no freaking way that we would have wanted to climb back down that beast! Fortunately, the path down was the typical hiking path that most people take up, and was very pretty and comfortable to descend thanks to some nice switchbacks. ❤️
“It’s not that I’m afraid to die. I’m just afraid I won’t be able to do it.” Response. “Yeah, me too!” You guys are crazy! ❤
Haha ya these hard via ferratas can play with your mind a bit. On the one hand, there's this miraculous metal cable 3000 feet of the ground that makes you feel grateful and safe. On the other hand, if the cable breaks you're falling 3000 feet. One thing for sure -- it's a heck of a rush! ❤️
Why your channel does not have at least 100k subscribers I have no idea. Another world class adventure.
Thanks very much -- yes we def don't have the most subscribers, but at least we've got the best! ❤️
Your expressions at the base of the sheer facing said everything that needed to be said. Thank you for braving it for us because there is no way I could ever do that.
Haha yes! For me, standing at the bottom looking up was actually the scariest part. It didn't look quite as steep on camera, but when I looked up I honestly didn't quite see how it was climb-able. I actually felt better once we got up a couple hundred feet up on the wall because then I knew we could do it, but then Elise got more scared because she worried her arms might give out! Overall, though, the nervousness ultimately made it even more fun and unique! --A
@@LiveHardxLoveHard most definitely the camera can never fully do justice to the reality, which makes your accomplishment that much more impressive. I could certainly tell you became more comfortable as the climb went on. If anyone could do it I knew you both could. You always encourage each other which is so necessary when doing challenges like that.
I just can't imagine your vlogs getting better and somehow you still knock it out of the park yet again!! Super awesome job, you both are amazing and simply inspirational to all your subs. Like I said, befpre don't come home, just keep on traveling and making wonderful vids. Ciao!!
Ciao Dan! Thanks very much. You're definitely getting us pumped for our impending life of perma-travel and adventure!! ❤️
Gorgeous breathe taking views! I usually speed up videos to watch but I always watch yours on normal speed. I don't want to miss a single gem. You pack in a lot information visually in your videos.
Aw thank you for telling us that -- it's very nice to hear. We really enjoy being able to share unusual views and perspectives with you guys, and it means a lot to know you appreciate it! ❤️
Wow that was amazing thanks for taking us along!! That is one for sure I will never do. And probably most people. You guys still made it look easy, kudos for keeping yourselves so fit. Be safe out there!
Haha thanks much -- yes this is not a good one for people with any level of acrophobia, because there are so many places where it's just a straight drop off with nothing under your feet. But on the upside, the cables are very strong and trustworthy, so it's just all about trusting them! ❤️
Adam you said it for me @13:20 - I'd say Elise earned the ‘forza e coraggio’ medal! Pretty sure National Geographic would give you both high marks on cinematic technique and compelling audio; nicely done! Love the authentic expression from Elise @ 8:22 lol. Definitely envious of that adventure!!
Bill you would love this one for sure! Even though we knew we were clipped into the cable, it was still totally scary/exhilarating to be climbing so vertically that high up. You know it's gnarly when Adam looks up at the beginning and admits he's nervous! ❤️ --E
That looked scary, even crossing that bridge looked so high up, I was nervous just watching, but such beautiful scenery
Yes Peter this one was definitely scary just because it was so, so vertical. Even though we were clipped in for the really gnarly parts, that sheer drop still makes your heart beat faster! ❤️
You guys are awesome! My heart is pounding just watching you.
Thanks Steve! So happy we could take you along in a visceral way. It really was a heart-pounder up there!! ❤️
What an amazing accomplishment and a way to spend a day, pushing your physical and mental limits with a supportive teammate! The hiking brought me to your channel but watching resilience and perseverance is what I truly value from your videos. You are both inspiring as humans. I love watching how you both craft your lifestyle to allow to accomplish these goals and how you both handle it when fear or frustration or exhaustion become a barrier to work through.
You both have such heart. Thank you for the continued inspiration and example. - Bernadette
Thanks so much, Bernadette! Your words really uplifted me this morning when I needed some uplifting, and I know Adam will feel the same when he reads this!! ❤️ --E
Holy moly! You guys have gone from hikers to daredevil climbers.
Haha yes -- that's definitely the goal, Mark! Now admittedly this is not as daredevil as it will be when we can climb something gnarly without benefit of a cable and just by placing our own trad gear, but that day is coming!! ❤️
You are completely crazy Elise... What a tough one.... Simply amazing how you can manage your way up such vertical mountains... 😘👌
Thanks Serge! Yes this one was very hard, but it felt SO great to make it to the top!! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard yeah I can believe your Satisfaction Elise.. Was gorgeous... Have a great evening.. 👌🤗🥂
Hi guys. Awsome video again. I'm here in the dolomites at my house every summer and ski season. I have a top tip for via ferrata. If you take with you a static loop and two karabiners you are then able to clip in and take a well earned rest , hands free. I do this a lot. Try a sports ferrata , if you have time. They are short and have a variety of demanding climbing situations. I can recommend Clap Varmost and Villa Sentina my local ones. Enjoy and keep posting. Darren 🇬🇧
Darren thanks so much for both the tip and the recommendations! We will most definitely try some sports ferratas -- maybe even your local ones -- on our next trip. They sound so fun, and would probably make for great videos as well!! ❤️
Now I can say it!
You guys are Rock Stars, Literally!!
I'm glad to have met both of you and had a great talk with Adam!
Dave
Aw thanks Dave! Thought of you the other day because one of our friend's kids just enrolled at Macalester. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard that's so awesome!
What a great school! Your friend's kid must be smart!
Well done you two! Tomasselli and Piazetta are great, classical routes for via feratta. There are so many more though, in the circle with a 20 miles radius from where you've done those two there are around 70 of them. Only looking straight back from the wall you have the Padon ridge , VF delle Trincee on volcanic rock, which has some interesting galleries along the way and then, Marmolada with VF Punta Pena and VF Eterna Carote which are ascending on different ridges to the highest peak in the Dolomites. Next time visit Cortina, there are some great routes in Tofana and one very difficult in Faloria, I dare to say more technical than Piazetta (VF Sci Club 18). Congratulations, this was a very finely documented adventure. You two are fun to watch, very genuine and great with camera work. Wished I was that good. Anyway, wish me good weather because I am off for two weeks starting next week, in the Dolomites. Piazetta is on the list, that would be my 3rd ascent of this particular one. I absolutely love it!
Wow Eugen have a great time!! It really is amazing how many wonderful hikes there are so close together. Even though we just got back, we're already feeling jealous about how much fun you're about to have!!! ❤️
With every video your adventure level is going to another level. You have done some real justice to this landscape. In every frame you have captured some amazing views. Every new video becomes are favorite and we discuss what next can they do to match the level but you always surprise us with a new adventure. Elise you are amazing and a strong woman. You both are an inspiration. Stay safe!!
Thanks so much, Samridhi! We love thinking about you and A watching when we're climbing really cool stuff, and imagining all the things she's going to climb one day! ❤️
Wowwww you guys killed it! What an amazing video 😍 I loved the views - you could definitely tell how vertical it was. The llamas at the end were a nice touch 👌🏻
Marco beat me to this one so I’d already heard about how amazing it was before I watched and was not disappointed!
Love you guys 💗
Haha we knew you'd be into the llamas! They totally made our day, along with the incredible schnitzel at the place we were staying in Ortisei (not your style, but Marco would have loved it!). Any day we have a spectacular hike and then are greeted by llamas and schnitzel is a good day! ❤️
You guys have some serious chops to do what you did in this experience and of course many others. I fully expect you guys to run into Alex Honnold one of these days, lol. Thanks for being the best channel on UA-cam you guys!!
It's so funny you say that, because we often talk about what we would do if we run into Alex Honnold hiking up to climb a wall (which we fully expect to happen one day). We wouldn't want to annoy him, but we'd definitely say hi and probably see if we could accompany him to the wall and watch him ascend! Would Adam try to free solo up behind him? Def not! ❤️
Epic footage, and I have to say I really admire you two. Your courage and strength is unmatched! Thanks for sharing these amazing adventures with us! 🏔🙌
Thanks so much, Sharla -- that really means a lot to us to hear. Just now gearing up for what will hopefully be a gorgeous winter hiking season, so lots more coming up! ❤
Beautiful, raw, inspiring.Thank you for these videos.
Thank you so much -- it's truly a pleasure for us to share these with you. We're delighted you're enjoying them! ❤️
Wow, you guys are incredible! What a “hike” 🤣. You both did awesome, and your video skills and production are really getting awesome, especially showing how steep it all is, as well as the incredible scenery! Loved the tram in the last sequence..btw, do you think having a pair of rock climbing shoes might have helped with the feet / slippery rock? Loved the meal at the top. Wow. Thanks again for sharing. Great job! Paul
Thanks Paul, and yes it would definitely have been easier to smear our feet on the rock face if we'd brought climbing shoes. But since we knew we could hold the cable, we felt confident that smearing with the approach shoes would work fine, and it did. Really there were only a few spots that were totally without footholds -- but climbing shoes would have felt nice there for sure! And those refugios at the top -- amazing. And their soup was legit delicious too! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard I just love the fact that there are refugios to get such wonderful food while hiking and/or climbing. So awesome.
Wow! Now that was a stretch from running through Venice! Look out, Alex Honnold! Watch out, Tommy Caldwell! Here come Adam and Elise, Spiderman and Spiderwoman! Kudos for not just climbing that extreme "trail," but for taking such breath-taking footage at the same time. It's amazing how Elise says she's terrified yet with a smile on her face! Your best ever! Thanks for sharing . . . and again, it looks like you reserved the whole mountain for yourselves!👍
Haha thanks Tom -- yes we were literally the very first ones on the mountain that day, and had the whole climb to ourselves (until the way down, when we met lots of people hiking up the regular hiking trail). It was really special, and a perfect climax to our honeymoon adventures! ❤️
So happy you guys are able to have such amazing adventures. When you are 100 in you rockers, you will be so proud and happy you chose these paths in your life. This was a 5th class climb, the cables made it all possible. Please don’t ever forget to loop your cable belt back into the buckle, it can save your life and it takes seconds. Love your adventures, gorgeous footage!!🏜🏜
Thanks Mary, and you're so right about looking back on this one day. One of our favorite things about making these videos is that we know when we can't do this stuff anymore we'll be able to look back and relive the adventures! And yes there are parts of this climb that would even be considered a harder class 5 (tough overhangs and very few holds in places) if it weren't for the cables! ❤️
Guys - you are KILLING me! 😰 Please never kill YOURSELVES!
How is this even called a "hike"?! 🤪
Please never put yourselves under the pressure that you would have to "top" videos like this - I love what you do ANYWAY and I'm sure I'm not the only one ❤
Thanks so much, Andre! And don't worry -- the great thing about these via ferratas is that, since we can clip into the cable, they are actually relatively safe compared to some of the crazy class 4 climbs in the U.S. But we promise we'll be careful on those as well as we get back into California adventuring! ❤️
You guys left me and the rest of your viewers in the states you guys are now officially mountain climbers and speaking about that summit that backdrop amazing looks like you guys are on cloud nine over the top adventure thanks for sharing love u guys ❤️
Thanks Raymond! It really has been a treat to be able to ascend mountains in this unique way -- the Europeans really know what they're doing when it comes to creating and maintaining awesome hikes. And then the refugios at the top! Can you imagine getting to the top of a Rainier or something and being able to order a delicious soup and cappuccino? Very cool experience. ❤️
Congratulations for your climbing. 🤗Have a beautiful evening! ❤️
Thanks so much -- once again the Dolomites delivered for us! Have a great night! ❤️
Wow, that was so scary! Big reward at the end of the climb!. Great video, as always! Thanks guys for sharing your adventures!
Thanks Miguel! Yes it was pretty darn amazing to have a refugio at the top that was actually open!! We were the very first customers of the day, and all they had that early was soup, but it was delicious soup so it was perfect!! ❤️
This latest adventure from Adam & Elise may have just redefined what’s frightening & death-defying in the world of mountain climbing. In fact, it will keep you exclaiming your disbelief out loud and perhaps questioning the sanity of these newlyweds.
And by the looks of this latest adventure & the tremendous satisfaction they convey at the summit, I don’t think they feel completely alive until they’ve physically challenged themselves to climb the highest mountain possible.
Fantastic work you guys, you earned that snack spot treat at the end.
Thanks Frans! You are sure right about those challenges bringing us alive. That honeymoon was definitely the best six weeks of our lives (so far!). And speaking of awesome trips, how was Cuba? Any recommendations for must-do adventures there? ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Before planning a vacation to Cuba I suggest checking with the Department of State for the most updated USA “Travel to Cuba” info. I think it shouldn’t be too difficult to get the proper authorization given that Adam is an educator. That much said, Cuba is a very beautiful island that for the most part is stuck in the 50’s. Travel to the inner parts requires lots of time & patience. You’ll find Cuban’s are very friendly, warm spirited and all around hospitable. The music & food is fantastic!
Based on what I’ve seen in your travels I suggest staying in Havana where there’s plenty to see & not as difficult to get around.
Here’s some suggestions;
1. Old Havana (Habana Vieja)
2. El Malecón
3. Castillo de los Tres Reyes del Morro
4. El Capitolio
5. Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabana
6. Museo Nacional de Bellas Arte
7. Playa Varadero.
…lastly, avoid summer months unless you enjoy extreme humidity & heat.
@@traveler.west1 Thanks Frans, that's great advice. We can definitely see a Havana marathon in our future!
Just....just....Wow! Love your channel, it really helps keep me regular BECAUSE YOU GUYS JUST SCARED THE CRAP OUT OF ME! Seriously though it is such a treat for us. We can hear in your voices just what you're feeling and the awe and excitement is intoxicating. Well done .Looking forward to watching the next adventure. I'd say stay safe...but where's the fun in that!🤣
Haha well said, Johnny! Very glad you're enjoying the adventures. Hope you'll like the one we're posting today where we're hiking and jumping into water in the South of France! ❤️
You know when Adam doesn't have any qualms about using the cables, then it's off the charts 😂 Congrats on an amazing climb! I'd like to do this one day, but will for sure need to work up to it regarding exposure. I think it's key not to your hands and arms do too much work and get tired and shaky.
You're right about that, Will! When I looked at how vertical and slick that thing was, the first thing I told myself was just be safe. And in a lot of places, that meant using those cables without remorse 🤣. Love that you're planning to work up to this kind of climb with gradual exposure training, because that's the part that gets people. If you did every move on this climb close to the ground it would be a very hard workout, but you could probably do it today. However, the high exposure makes people severely over-grip and, as you say, get shaky and exhausted and that's where the trouble starts. So just doing normal training while also gradually getting used to big-drop exposure will have you in perfect condition for all of these hikes -- and we can't wait to hear about it when you do them! --A
@@LiveHardxLoveHard thanks so much for the tips and sharing your experience! Next time, do come to the Julien Alps in Slovenia as well! 😁

Thanks Rob! The Dolomites are so freaking epic -- we already can't wait to go back and do more of these!! ❤️
Absolutely fantastic you guys. You have been training for this for years. I have no doubt you'll make it. Curious about the return trip and I start to watch. Awesome job in taking it to the next level. 👏
Thanks very much, Julio! You are right -- whenever we feel intimidated by something we always remind ourselves how much training we've done, and that we are ready for the challenge! ❤️
Hi Elise and Adam,
Wow! Wow! Wow! Brilliant camera work! Stunning scenery! And you certainly convinced us of the difficult and dangerous nature of the ascent. The pucker factor must have been very high. Congratulations on one of your better videos.
I’ve noticed several crosses at the summits of your Dolomite hikes. Are these in memory of those poor soul who perished climbing the mountains?
That's a good question. We think it's just a Catholic thing in general -- like they put a cross rather than a summit box to let you know you're there, and also remind you that God created the whole thing. But we're so used to crosses meaning loss in the U. S. that that is def the natural assumption! ❤️
They put crosses on peaks in all of Europe. For commemorating people they have plaques.
This is very well filmed. Congrats on the amazing footage! A few comments: this is not a hike, any via ferrata is a climbing! I have just returned from the Dolomites, where I did six ferratas in the Passubio region (south Dolomites, bordering Veneto) and one further north in Parcines. I always carried my hiking poles in the backpack because they were very useful on the hiking down, which is so punishing on the knees. I notice that you did not, any reason why?? Also, my local guide taught me how to “ski” down the huge scree chutes. That technique was such a blessing on the way down, as it saved so much time and effort! Did you guys do that?? Another unforgettable and amazing thing about the Dolomites are the rifugios!! It never ceased to amaze me that almost everywhere, high up the mountains there was a cosy rifugio with excellent homemade food, cold beer and flawless italian espresso!!
Eduardo that trip sound so fun!! That's probably a good idea to bring hiking poles just in case. We generally didn't feel like we needed ours, but when we were descending Tomaselli they sure would have been nice. We love "skiiing" on scree as long as there is no one below us, but on most of our Dolomites descents it seemed like there were people below hiking up, and of course we wouldn't want to kick a rock down toward them. And totally agree about the refugios -- they are the best!!!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard good point about kicking rocks on other hikers. I guess I was lucky, most of my climbs we were alone on the mountain. Cheers!!
Absolutely fantastic my friends !! Congratulations 🙂
Thank you, Petr! What a fun climb it was!! ❤️
Great videography! Scary to watch at times but cool and beautiful as well. Keep up the good work.
Thanks David, that's lovely to hear! We're always working on our videography, but in extreme environments like all that straight vertical we're never exactly sure how things will turn out. ❤️
Always so encouraging to one another! Great job guys, wowzers!
I also enjoyed the pretty pink flowers along a section of your route:) and the ledges...
Thanks Leslie! Giving encouragement and positivity on hard climbs is so important, and we've even been finding that it carries over into regular life as well. Adam will text me in the middle of a long work day and just say, "crush those appointments, boo boo." It actually helps! ❤️ --E

That looked terrifying! I kept thinking about how somebody set up those cables and that bridge and how extra scary that must have been!

Nice day for climbing, love the summit, thanks a bunch
Thanks Andrea! Yes a summit with great view AND a delicious soup/cappuccino combo is hard to beat! ❤️
Scary to watch, too!! I'm glad you didn't have to come down the way you went up. 2 mi up the face or less? Great tune at the summit!! Another incredible journey--love you both.
Less than 2 miles up the face, Bob, but it still took a long time because of the verticality (and filming!). ❤️
Elise, the expression on your face at 8:20-23 is priceless! 😀 Sending emergency chocolate!
Haha thanks Liam! Yeah I'm not gonna lie -- this one scared the heck out of me in a few places. I knew I was clipped in and probably wouldn't die, but for some reason my heart didn't get the message as I looked down 1500 feet of vertical rock! ❤️ --E
Such high quality camerawork and production values! I continue to appreciate your work, especially how you work together. It’s clear that you are continuing to try new approaches (as it were), critically reflecting on what you are doing and how to portray it. A suggestion, you’ve perhaps considered this one. Trail to Mt. Constance in Olympic NP. Not near as difficult as many of the others you’ve done, but it’s nice country out here, lovely views. Trail is short but there are lots of neighboring places to take on and enjoy. Many thanks for your work.

Yes you definitely will do this beautiful climb one day. The reason we know that is that once an outdoor-lover gets a taste of via ferratas, it only goes one way: you will get more and more addicted to it, and what a wonderful and rewarding addiction it is! ❤️
Loved the hike especially the views & that bridge!!!
So glad to hear that, Karen! Yes it's amazing how much effort they put into these via ferratas -- and bridges! -- to allow us to climb in such incredible places. We're really hoping that the U. S. will catch on to this soon! ❤️

@@LiveHardxLoveHard yes!!!💪💪but for now still in our bucketlist💖
The view behind you though!!! It's spectacular! Looks like a really fun climb too.
For sure, Jesse -- the views were pretty astonishing the whole way (until we got into the clouds for a while!). But the most memorable and fun part was def the climb itself -- SO much straight vertical!! ❤️
I'm proud of you Elise, courage is not being fearless, courage is taking action in the face of fear. Best of all, no foolish risks doing it! Nice job, wish I could join you on something like that. When you find you balance, allowing you to use way less energy just hanging on, it turns magic. The strength clock is no longer ticking and you can relax. . . somewhat. . . and savor the moment, the views and share it with your companions. I recently did a big easy solo with a buddy I'm editing right now, WOW! Longs as our back drop. That backdrop you guys had, Spectacular! When are you coming home?

Would be interesting to know what % of your community would or have climbed such vertical ^hills^.
Guido that really would be interesting. Based on the fact that most of our subscribers are American, we'd bet that very few have done these Dolomites hikes but that at least 25-30% would do it if they get a chance -- and hopefully now will be inspired to do a Dolomites trip! ❤️
Well done !!!! And great video as always, we've been spending most of our holidays on the Dolomites but you still manage to inspire us ! What is your action cam ? It looks so crispy, I have a Gopro Hero 8 but it looks slightly fuzzier , do you apply any post-processing filter ?
Thanks Massimo! Yes we switched to the GoPro 10 and it is definitely crispier than the 8 (which we also used to use). It's kind of expensive, but you will notice the difference right away when you view the footage. Also, we use an iPhone 13 for some shots, which also has excellent resolution compared to previous iPhones. ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Thank you, so the GoPro 10 is in my bucket list now ! (or maybe the 11 which should arrive next fall)
Omg I sobbed when you got to the top!!! Crazy beautiful.
That's so sweet, Susan -- thank you! It really was crazy gorgeous up there, and on all of the Dolomites hikes. Definitely one of our best hiking trips ever! ❤️
You guys are amazing. Keep up the great work & stay safe! 🌞🌞
Thanks very much -- we promise to stay safe, though it won't be quite as easy back in the U. S. when we don't have the amazing via ferrata cables to protect us anymore! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard I thank you for for kindly responding (again), much appreciated. Yeah, I have noticed that in US, cables are not being used. Might be a good idea to change this though, what do you think? There are so many gorgeous places (some of them seen thanks to your efforts).
You are doing great job, not only climbing/hiking, but also the cameras, editing... really, respect. Keep it up. Hoping to see you one day somewhere in the Europe 😉
@@strigoiimortii Thanks very much, and we totally agree. There are many incredible places in the western U.S. where via ferratas would open up all kinds of possibilities. We would really love to see it.
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Let´s spread the word then ;)
It´s matter of time to get in touch with relevant official bodies that can help to approve and start working on installation and maintenance of via ferratas. You can be the pioneers of this ;)
What a great hike ! In such a beautiful place, great video (it is so wonderful crystal clear and steady ) did you guys move there ? Trad climbing needs to be next I would say you guys are ready , thanks for sharing !
Thanks Larry! We totally agree about the trad climbing -- Adam is getting a couple of experienced mentors to take him out on some climbs, and hopefully by next spring we'll be ready to go it alone on a few epic hike and climbs!! ❤️
A definition of a hike is ‘a long walk’. That was not a hike that was a serious bit of mountaineering 😁. Bravo guys what a climb. My arms are aching from watching Elise pulling herself up that cable. Wow. I need to go and have a rest now. Your adventure exhausted me.
Haha yes you're right, Anna. This one was mostly still hiking, but that vertical via ferrata part was definitely more in the mountaineering/climbing realm! It's good practice, too, because we're definitely hoping to get more into mountaineering and climbing adventures as we get more experienced with climbing equipment! ❤️
Elise at 2:10: "Wait...we're going up that? How is that even...what?...how do I do that?!"
That's when you know it's serious.
Great job, though! On inspiration from you two we're going to do our first Via Ferrata next week, on a beginner course in Tahoe!
Thomas that is SO wonderful to hear! Once you guys get your confidence up and learn to trust the cables on a couple of easier ones, you'll be able to do pretty much any of these. Please let us know how it goes -- so excited for you!!! ❤️
Good to know there is actually an “easy” way down - that view from the peak was absolutely gorgeous
Haha yes Rick, we would NOT have wanted to climb back down the way we came up! The hike down was actually really nice, but the experience of eating soup, drinking cappuccinos, and soaking in the views from the top was definitely the highlight. ❤️
13:40 half dome feel. Great effort I found my arms would shake with climbing in that environment
For sure, Andrew! I've found that as I get more confident and relax more I use my feet better so it's less taxing on my arms, but my arms were shaking like crazy on this one! ❤ --E
The view of scenery is incredibly gorgeous.
Dolomites! It's like a dream there.
Man that was awesome. I've got the fitness but my fear of heights prevents me from doing the technical climbing stuff. Great job!
Oh my gosh I totally relate to your situation! When Adam first started taking me on more challenging climbs, I was way too afraid of heights to do anything with long vertical drops like this. Gradually, over the years, I just started adding a little bit more exposure here and there, and pretty soon things that used to scare me seemed totally ok, and things that seemed way out of reach seemed potentially doable. Of course I'll probably never be sitting and eating snacks over 3000 foot drops like Adam does, but gradual exposure training really has helped a lot to overcome my fear of heights. Maybe you could just start with things that are a little bit scary, like crawling (so you know you won't fall even if you get vertigo) to look over the edge of cliff on a hike, and then take it gradually from there? ❤️ --E
wow you guys are amazing and so brave looked super scary!! do you wear special climbing shoes on these types of hikes?
Thank you, and that's a great question. Yes we wear approach shoes, which are comfortable to hike in but much stickier than regular hiking boots or trail runners, so they are perfect for via ferratas. We use the Sportiva TS4s, and are very happy with them! ❤️
Beautiful video! in these places I started skiing and hiking when I was 5 years old!!!
Wow Michele what a fortunate and wonderful way to grow up! We really want to spend a full year in this area and do both winter and summer adventuring, hopefully as early as 2024! ❤️
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Optimal! Don't forget to visit the Western Alps too, especially the Aosta Valley!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard Allow me to give you some advice. The southern part of Trentino is cheaper than South Tyrol.
Thank you, that is good to know!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard yes, for your projects 2024. If you want, ask me 😀⛰️🏔️
Very nice climbing action, I love it ;-)) Thumbs up and greetings to you!
Thanks Chris! The Dolomites are freaking amazing!! ❤️
How fantastic guys! How scary even though your clipped in that definitely has to be a adrenaline rush for sure. Adam is right he has developed the upper body strength to handle that much better than Elise. Jellybean your going to need to hit more of those chin up bars if Adam keeps doing this to you. You were amazing cutie. So brave! Thanks so much for sharing another outstanding vlog on the honeymoon of a lifetime. Love you guys! Be safe and have a great week. ❤️
Haha it's so true, Larry! Before we even got down from this hike, I had already made a vow to increase my pull-up abilities so we'll be able to do even longer via ferratas in the future. Right now I can do about four pull-ups, but my goal by next summer is to be up to ten!! ❤️ --E
I’m rooting for you jellybean I know you can do it you were amazing! 🤗
Haha insane. Love it. I’m essentially just looking at your videos and making a bucket list
Yes!!! This area should be right near the top of any outdoors bucket list, because there are so many fantastic routes all within about 2 hours of one another. You could stay here for months, do amazing hikes and climbs every single day, and never do the same route twice! ❤️
I will be doing Mt Katahdin on Wednesday. This will be very emotional. This mountain is the end of the Appalachian trail. Evan and I watched many people cry as they finished a long journey. It's very rocky and rugged. I will be thinking about you when I'm on trail too 😊
So wonderful -- really looking forward to hearing how it goes, and love that you'll be brining Evan with you to the top! Good luck -- we will definitely be thinking of you and sending good thoughts your way tomorrow!
@@LiveHardxLoveHard I will make a video ❤️
@@evans_swiftie_shirt1730 Yes!!
Looks cool! If you haven’t already try the Murren via ferrata in Switzerland !
Thanks Willem -- that's a great recommendation, and we will put it on the list for our planned Switzerland/Germany trip next summer! ❤️
On top of the world! And to believe I was nervous zip lining at Coeur d'alene. lol
Haha well it's kind of a similar nervousness, Harlan, because ultimately it's all about trusting the cable either way, right? If we'd fallen in the wrong spot on this climb we would have gotten beat up for sure, but ultimately the cable would have caught and protected us just like a zip line! ❤️
You two amaze me everytime. Awesome climb.🥰
Thanks very much -- super glad you saw this one! The Dolomites is such an amazing place, and this hike really encapsulates what's awesome about it -- challenging, but also so rewarding. ❤️
I love this video. Keep on the great job
Thanks very much! As you can probably tell from a lot of these videos, we love the Dolomites and will keep coming back every year! ❤️
Very impressive upper body strength. Had to have had jelly arms at the end of that. Beautiful views and that soup looked delicious.
You're totally right, Angela. My arms were completely cooked by the time we got to the top, and even Adam said his arms were tired and he can do like 30 pull ups. But the soup and cappuccino made it all worthwhile! ❤️
AND although not a climber, it made me think of the Compressor Route on Cerro Torre, crazy
Haha one day, Joseph, one day! Or at least we'll see it, because Patagonia is very high on our list! ❤️
After all these wonderful adventures and extreme climbing, California hiking is going to be too easy and unexciting for you two. You will have to do Everest next or some of the big hikes in Alaska. :)
Haha you're not wrong about Alaska, Casey! We really want to get up there for some big hikes and hopefully even Denali. But we also have some big plans for SoCal as well -- we just need to get trad climbing certified so we can go after a few of the really crazy peaks were we'll need to be bring all our own ropes and gear. If we keep making progress on our climbing, hopefully that'll happen by next spring or summer! ❤️
Stumbled across your channel by accident and after the first glance I thought: Well, here's another attention-hungry social media couple which attempts hikes that are not made for them (we get too many of those here in Austria!). But boy was I wrong. You two actually are 2 very good mountaineers with the skillset to match the routes that you're picking. I also like your positive personalities. Sorry for misjudging you in the first place. ;-) Keep it up!
Thanks very much, Peter. We totally understand how people could get that impression based on our titles and thumbnails, but of course the irony is that without provocative titles and thumbnails the videos would never even make it into the algorithm and get shown to them in the first place! So we appreciate that you gave us a chance and really watched the adventures. Hopefully many more to come as we continue to develop our skills! ❤️
Absolutely awesome! Thank you for sharing such incredible footage of your crazy scary hikes and climbing! I get to see things I would NEVER have been able to see!:) Also, how do they put up those cables and a bridge like that OMFH and who does it the first time?? How are they tested for saftey...?
Have you guys ever seen a cougar or bear?
Yeah umm no bueno for me LoL! Thanks again, you guys are super human! :)
Yes Lorina! We have encountered bears multiple times, and on our Sequoia Alta Peak Traverse video we actually show one that Adam practically ran straight into as he rounded a boulder! As for the via ferrata systems, they were mostly installed originally by Italian soldiers during WWI so they could climb the highest peaks for strategic purposes. That generation was crazy brave! Pretty sure there's someone who tests them for safety, but not sure who! Anyway, very glad you're enjoying the vids. ❤️
Hey guys, I enjoy your adventures a lot. I don't know if you are familiar with it or just choose not to use it, but there is a gadget that you can use on Via ferrates like these. like the "petzel connect adjust" or the "camp piu 2.0 kit". and it is used to rest on via ferrates and negate the risk of slipping down and falling to the last point of belay.
you just add it to your harness and can clip in wherever you feel like you are too tired and need a little break.
That's a great idea, Raviv, especially on really vertical ascents like this one. It could also come in handy for us as added security when we (especially Adam) want to stop in the middle of a vertical wall to get a good shot with the camera! ❤️
Stay safe! 🤭🤯😳😬
Amazing filming! That’s bravery.
Thanks Susan! Really glad this crazy climb came through on film. In person those vertical drops were so freaking scary! But also, of course, what made it so fun! ❤️
Amazing views !! Omg i love the videos !! Wish I could do some stuff like this some day .
Thank you -- so glad you're enjoying! You will definitely be able to do these hikes one day if you want to -- it just takes a little bit of practice! ❤️
Power couple... Amazing as usual 👊🏽💪🏽🤗😊
Thanks Edu! We had so much fun on this climb!! 💪❤️
Great video, amazing climb.. at least you didn't have to set the cable :)
So true, Joseph! Can you imagine the effort it must have taken to set the cable in that crazy vertical rock face? Couldn't be more grateful to the badasses who did that for all the rest of us to enjoy! ❤️
I’m scared for you guys but it’s a wonderful video, great job 👏🏽👏🏽🥰🥰
Thanks very much, Maria! Yes this one was definitely scary because of how vertical it was, but so worth it to be up there all alone in such an amazing place! ❤️
You guys keep upping your game each time. I keep wondering how you'll top the previous one and you seem to keep doing it and this time with bonus llamas!
OMG so glad you saw the llamas! We were worried everyone would click off before the very end, and those llamas were one of the awesomest parts of the whole day!! ❤️
I felt nervous watching you but kudos to both of you. That seemed very tough.I always wondered how was the climb back ,was it more risky climbing down?
Thanks very much! It really was a hard climb up, but we were lucky on this one because it's a loop and the down part is on the regular hiking trail up to the top of Piz Boe. So we were basically able to descend on a normal trail, which was lovely and relaxing after that brutal ascent. When we did Tomaselli a couple weeks ago, on the other hand, we had to descend via ferrata style and that was really, really tough! ❤️
I just wish I was out there climbing mountains with you guys instead of here dealing with every single person. It's just one of those days at work office workers by the way love the video
Haha that's ok, if it's any consolation we're both back at work now too 🥲 We still have one more video to edit and post from Europe, but geographically we're here in LA and both finishing the end of our first very long week of work appointments since the trip. We all gotta retire already and adventure full time!! ❤️
Dude Adam, I'm so proud of you for finally using the cables...no shame, that sh#t is crazy!! You guys wearing approach or climbing shoes here?
Ya Michael on some of that stuff you'd have to be a pro climber to get up it without the cable! We wore our approach shoes, which worked fine for 99% of the hike. For a few of the really slick and vertical parts it might have been nice to have climbing shoes, but since we had the cable to grab we just smeared hard with the approach shoes and it all worked out well. ❤️
Beautiful place. Wow. Are you guys coming back to the states soon? Where you going next?
Yes Jim, we're back! We have one more adventure from Europe that we'll edit and post next week, but after that it'll probably be some Cali adventures for a while. The first thing we want to do is treat our Dolomites withdrawal symptoms by getting up into the High Sierra! ❤️
You both inspire me so much!
Aw thanks, James! We really hope we'll inspire you to visit the Dolomites -- it is for sure one of the top 2 or 3 hiking destinations anywhere in the world. Just amazing routes everywhere -- like hiker heaven!! ❤️
Am I the only one looking at this route and thinking... if you slip you have a decent chance of being impaled by one of those pieces of rebar sticking out?
Haha you are definitely not the only one! I was super worried about that and also jagged rocks as I was climbing, especially when there were run-outs of 10 feet or so because if I fell I'd be whipping pretty darn fast by the time the tether actually caught on the anchor! --E
