    I had this problem and it was definitely an issue with the mic plug that shipped with some of the units, including the first one I received.. I suspect the internal wiring inside the mic plug was loose. I did not have this issue when I used a mic other than the mic that came with my unit. I contacted Zoom and they sent me a new unit and no problems. The “pop” would occur with something as innocuous and sitting down with the mic on a belt. Seems you got a good unit-congratulations!

      Thanks so much for your thoughts!! That is interesting that using a different lav mic solved the problem. Which one did you use? I had another guy who commented on one of my videos said he tried a sennheiser lav mic and it still popped.

    • @rwsjr
      @rwsjr 3 роки тому +2

      One of the mics I tested was a lav mic that came with my Movo wireless system and the other was a headset mic with a screw on connection. I could feel a lot of play inside of the first microphone plug upon inspection. Almost any movement caused the pop sound-the sound was really bad and would ruin any shot where this happened.

    Definitely like the D4 over the D3 with audio monitoring headphones. I hear the Sanken COS-11D lavalier works super well with this recorder, but the cost is $379!

      @@poutineitup9510 I had a feeling. It's alright, I hunted them down on Amazon. I haven't gotten the f2 yet, but if I do, at least I'll know what to use.
      Also, I spent over an hour trying to hunt down video confirmation of the ability to plug external mics into the f2 and make them work.
      The last video I watched claimed that you couldn't without overwhelming it, due to it's extremely limited capacity as described in the documentation (5.5 something, don't know the terms and science behind it).
      So, since you have just proven that you can: would you be willing to make a new video verifying and quickly demonstrating your tests which prove that you can, for others to easily find? It's been out for years, but literally nobody seems to know this can be done!
      I'd do it myself using a clip from your video, but Adobe Premier is currently malfunctioning on me and I haven't learned Divinci Resolve yet, only just downloaded it. I'd rather promote you anyway; you did the work and deserve credit for it. This isn't my specialty and I don't care to become known for it. This ua-cam.com/video/lFG8FRyBZac/v-deo.html is the video in which they claimed you couldn't do it.

      I thought the exact same thing when I was editing the video. I looked really closely at the wave form and those two sounds were half as loud as my voice wave form was when talking. Normally pops tend to be really loud and peak most of the time. This made me think they were actually plosives and not pops. Now I can’t be sure though so I will leave that up to you and what your thoughts are. I wondered about editing those sounds out though like I did with some other plosives in the audio but I thought full transparency with the tests was more important. Let me know your thoughts and thanks so much for watching the video and commenting.

    I was thinking of purchasing the F2 as a 32bit float field recorder and pairing w 3.5mm shotgun mics for outdoor ambiance. What's your thoughts on that's? Should I just stick to the f5 with the onboarding mics?

    Hey man, have to say, your lighting setup is top notch. Very nice quality, with a nice pleasing background. Very pro! What I want to know is, what is the adapter cable you are using to connect an XLR mic to the F2?

      Hey thanks for the kind words :) good question. I actually wasn’t using an xlr mic going into the F2. I was using other microphones that only used the standard 3.5mm cables. I probably didn’t explain that well. Sorry about that. I had my normal studio xlr microphones going into my Scarlett 2i2 interface for a comparison only. If you have any other questions please let me know :)

    We own a handful of F2's, and they all pop often with our Sanken lapels (which all lock into place) plugged up, which is very unfortunate. The Sankens are significantly higher quality mics and connections than the included lapels, and they don't have this issue on any other recorder or transmitter that we own. Tried a few other lapel brands and had the same results. I assume Zoom's standards for connection size / dimensions is very slightly off from industry standard, therefor it's only useful if you're intending to use the included lapel.

      Thanks so much for comment. Great question!! Since they were shorter clips I didn't do a ton to the audio when I processed it. I did notch out certain frequencies that were piercing and raised the low end to give my voice a little more boost. I also thought the D3 sounded the best. Would you be interested in a video on how I process my audio for my videos? I've been wondering if that sort of video would be helpful for people.
      BTW I just got a brand new studio mic delivered today. I can't wait to unbox it and do some testing and give it a full review. Look for that video that will probably show up some time in February or sooner perhaps.
