Just started watching your 7 things i wish i knew before buying a adv bike. Yes i agree. I came from riding offroad trails since i was 10 (24 now). Started on a late 80's xr100. When i was 14 i got a 2006 crf230f. Then when i was 18 i got a 2004 yz250f, still have the yz but it has sat for a few years due to trucking taking up time, not having anyone to ride with and needing new valves. Currently I have a 2018 250l with that i bought a few weeks before starting a trip with my 2010 Ford Ranger and camping gear (small lift, bumper, winch, stiffer leaf springs, rooftop tent, hitch carrier, fridge, stove, etc.) and the bike on the back, from Manitoba through ND, SD (Black hills roads are a ton of fun), NE, OK, TX, NM, AZ, NV, CA (redwoods were really cool), back through NV, now im in Utah. Ive always worn motorcross boots when riding offroad, and now with the 250l i still do when i know im going to hit some trails that day. I've put about 750 miles on the bike so far, loving it. (Did oil and filter when i got it). Part or my inspiration for the 250l was Noraly (Itchy Boots), found your channel about a week ago.
I think what you're actually feeling is the torque increase that comes in around 3600 rpm. There is really no substantial increase in HP until 6500 rpm and you ride in the lower rev range. Hardly any trail riders that have one of those bikes is going to rev the bike enough to really get any advantage from the pipe. Any street legal bike will benefit from an accessory exhaust. Factory pipes are restricted to minimize noise. You open the pipe and the bike can breathe properly but there is more noise. And the engine draws more air which makes the mixture leaner. I think the 15% claim is optimistic and I wonder if the dyno numbers are measured with the spark arrestor installed. But, the pipe is no doubt lighter so that is a big advantage. I'd keep an eye on the fuel mixture.
I loved my 250l and now I have aT7 which I really enjoy on road and off. The one thing that I really miss is the weight difference between the T7 and the 250L which makes me want to sell my T7 and get a 300L.
I want that exhaust but 90% of the riding I do is trespassing so i have to stick to my quiet little stock exhaust that sounds like a sewing machine sneaking through the forest.

My buddy and I cut two good sized trees out of the road last week. If we wouldn't have had the Silky we wouldn't have been able to complete the loop.
I had a DR350 ,I weigh 300, changed the front sprocket to 15 tooth and the rear sprocket to 64 tooth it made a world of difference on the trails and I don't know about the road cause I used soft compound motorcross tires but It seemed to run faster and slower better

Been going back and forth between the Rally and the XR650L. I like the Rally's lighting, speedometer/odometer, windscreen and USB port. I like the XR's suspension, power and reputation (also the fact that it's still made in Japan). The XR is $500.00 more than the ABS Rally still with it's age and "antiqueness". How would you compare the two? Also, does your Rally have the ABS? I haven't read much about the pros/cons of this on reviews?
Carb vs fuel injection is a big difference. FI is easier to repair on the road and doesn't vary as much based on temp/altitude like carb. Rally has fuel gauge, does 650?
Just curious, do you have any future plans to flash the ECU? I did mine and it made a ton of difference, that along with an exhaust like this would really make the little bike come alive in my opinion. Great looking exhaust for sure.
... Wing, with the ECU re-flash, was there any "re-tuning" needed. I don't want to get into stuff like that. Seeking all the power I can squeeze out of my 300 rally and keep the reliability. Exhaust first. Thanks, . Jeff .
"Graves sent me this because they liked the video I did in the 450l exhaust they sent me" says it all, free future products for future content. I will say Graves makes quality products BUT as lean as these bikes come from the factory to pass EPA you may get away with a slip on without mapping changes but I do not believe in a true freer flowing full system that the engine is not running dangerously lean! And the only way you can verify the HP increases of such a small amount because these bikes are such a low hp stock would be to dyno before and after install and even then usually if you get a higher rpm gain you will see a lower rpm torque loss. The added noise is making your butt dyno think it is doing better than it actually is real world I would bet.
We have no ongoing agreement and I don't have any more bikes they make products for, but if you still want to believe I'm being dishonest, I guess that's your prerogative.
@@DorkintheRoad Difference is not saying you are dishonest only you have a reason to not badmouth their products as you make money off of the content you create. By opening up the exhaust are we leaning out the bike at all? Or would that only be a concern on an intake air restriction improvement? Nice. Nice mods but that stuff starts adding up so very fast….
How'd you go getting the larger diameter Graves header pipe around the crash bar mounting bracket on the right hand side? I've ground the gusset out, but it looks like I'll have to take some meat out of it as well.
Hey Buddy i bought the Graves full exhaust for the 300 rally after your review but i cant seem to fit the outback motortek crashbara with the bracket mount it sits almost right on the headers … how did you get the crashbars on there. I took it too a shop too and they said they didnt know either. Please let me know my man i would really appreciate it
No one really wants a loud bike, but extra torque is appreciated. Have you modded the suspension which I have read totally sucks? Does your bike have ABS:?
There no way that exhaust adds 15%! I’ve seen numerous exhaust videos where they actually dyno the bike before and after and I’ve never seen an exhaust even come close to 15%!
Regarding the Graves exhaust, obviously, noise in the middle of nowhere is not a big issue, but they state that it is, “For closed course use only”. I ride in a populated area. Would you not recommend it in that case? Seems lighter and more powerful that the Yosh.
I got one of seat concepts seats for my 300 Rally 1 year ago but there is no way in hell I can get the front tab under the seat to slip under, maybe after my complaint to them they widened the front edges of the seat because I think they were making them as if the 300L and the 300L rally were the same at that frontal area, which they are not. They wanted me to supply dimensions, really?
What is your weight / height? I've been looking at this bike because it's something I can potentially share with my older kids. But I'm worried I'm too big for it.
Dammit Dorkin', now I have to get a small dual sport like that. Looks too fun. Also, I saw a little leafy branch miss your eye by like an inch or so. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
I have to agree with your power increase with the exhaust, mine is also stock and the exhaust made a noticeable increase like no other bike I have had. Some other bikes I have only sounded better but ran lean without other mods. Not so the 300l. I won’t modify the air filter or fuel mixture in any way runs perfect now.
@@ianbray3580 Yes, Ben/Dork is talking about his Graves exhaust and you agreed with him on the power increase therefore anyone reading your reply would think you also had the same Graves exhaust. Thank you.
I don’t like the fact that I have to sacrifice my stock heat shield for an aftermarket exhaust on this bike. I don’t like those small aftermarket heat shields that barely cover the exhaust. I will be trying to fabricate a way to retain the stock one. I’m not shocked at all that every little thing I do to this bike I feel a difference, because it is so restricted! That 12lb exhaust you removed was chocking the heck out of this motor. You should get the ECU and air box mod, it helps in more ways than one... For $150 it’s worth every penny.
I put the GL heat shield on mine and it's great. You can hardly see it and the bag is nowhere near the hot exhaust. I'd suggest giving them a second look. So long as your bag isn't touching the exhaust directly, you're golden.
... Same question I am seeking. I am leaning to a full exhaust system and only want to do it once. This Graves is more expensive than the Yosh and others BUT, it is does make a noticeable difference I may spend the extra $$. I DO NOT want to get into re-tuning, etc. . Jeff .

Not a chance you get 15% with only an exhaust, maybe 3hp. Just to compare, a KLX250 punched out to 351cc with full exhaust and air box mod gained maybe 8hp.
Just out of curiosity do you have a emergency contingency while ur out riding alone? Reason I ask is iv always been a solo rider never prepared for a situation that I get hurt and can’t ride myself out and I broke my collar bone out on a trail and I learnt that day a emergency plan for riding alone Is important to have.
I’m skeptical of the claimed numbers. The difference is so small that it can be even down to the setup of the dyno. Should have tested it yourself! Edit: just checked the website, the graphs are not there, maybe they never were, maybe they took them down. Either way good shit.

G'day from Oz did you do the suspension trying to work out the order of mods i do. I pick up my 300r rally in 3 weeks
the exhaust sounds great, did it come with a spark arrestor?
There no way that exhaust adds 15%! I’ve seen numerous exhaust videos where they actually dyno the bike before and after and I’ve never seen an exhaust even come close to 15%!
Dyno charts on their website.
chart shows about 4hp gain at ~8200 rpm, that's in the zone of 15%
@@DorkintheRoadStill seems too good to be true 🤷♂️
where does the color of the exhaust match the blue color of the dekor?
Regarding the Graves exhaust, obviously, noise in the middle of nowhere is not a big issue, but they state that it is, “For closed course use only”. I ride in a populated area. Would you not recommend it in that case? Seems lighter and more powerful that the Yosh.
All aftermarket exhausts say that. None of them are technically street legal. It's pretty loud for sure, though.
Hola amigo.
Have you noticed any additional fuel consumption or extra engine effort (higher RPMs) with this exhaust?
Greetings from Costa Rica!
You’re gonna melt your turn signal. LOL. Sounds great
how do you compare iyho the late yamaha wr-250 enduro vs this 300L for dual sport? pawleeP
Retail on a full Graves exhaust is $1,098 plus tax plus delivery so cont me out. Yoshi is about half that.
awesome video, where are you riding?
If you think thats good, wait untill you try one with the velocity stack/ecu/exhaust combo, different bike
How much do you weight in MC clothes and boots? Around. Im like 100kg>>>110kg fully geared and Im afraid about that bike suspension...
1100 USD for the exhaust so.... be damn sure you wanna keep this little bike
I have to agree with your power increase with the exhaust, mine is also stock and the exhaust made a noticeable increase like no other bike I have had. Some other bikes I have only sounded better but ran lean without other mods. Not so the 300l. I won’t modify the air filter or fuel mixture in any way runs perfect now.
... I looked at your videos and you have a FMF exhaust? Did you change TO the Graves or FROM the Graves or not have a Graves at all?
Thanks
@@240LTS Graves?
@@ianbray3580 Yes, Ben/Dork is talking about his Graves exhaust and you agreed with him on the power increase therefore anyone reading your reply would think you also had the same Graves exhaust.
Thank you.
@@240LTS I think any aftermarket exhaust will free it up the stock exhaust is so restrictive
@@ianbray3580 ... Thanks.
@@DorkintheRoad I’ll have to check those out.
Yay Shotgun! Glad to see it's dried out.
Have you used a Trail-Tail? Looking to get one for the KLR to pull a kayak.
Is that like some kind of sex thing? Never heard of it.
@@DorkintheRoad oh hun, if I was looking for that advise, I wouldn't come to you.
Any idea how it compares to the Yoshi exhaust ? In terms of power gains ?
... Same question I am seeking. I am leaning to a full exhaust system and only want to do it once.
This Graves is more expensive than the Yosh and others BUT, it is does make a noticeable difference I may spend the extra $$.
I DO NOT want to get into re-tuning, etc.
. Jeff .
@@240LTS Yeah. But in the meantime, I found out that it is quite a bit louder than the stock exhaust. I am now looking at the Moto X exhaust, but getting confused between the different versions.
@@PeteLeuenbergerHi Pete, I am wondering if you have purchased the MotoX and if you do, which option did you choose and how well it was? Thank you in advance for your help!
@@jacintofjimenez5342 No I did not, I am still on the stock exhaust. Actually been wondering upgrading to a better bike altogether, the beta RRS 350. The CRF is just so heavy.
@@PeteLeuenberger thank you for answering. I was thinking to wait until I can buy the Suzuki 4S.
Had a Yoshi on my 300l and loved it. Did you swap out the ECU ? I had the 550 on mine and worked well.
Stock ECU so far.
@@DorkintheRoad look into the 550 it cleans a few things up and for the price I found it worth it.
@@scottsmith1897
1. Did you get the stock ECU one re-flashed or buy a new one?
2. Did anything else have to be done to the engine like a re-tune that I read so much about?
I totally do not understand any of it? What is actually re-tuned and who I could trust to do it.
I don't even want to start down that road.
3. 2021 300 Rally here. If it doesn't hurt the reliability (or MPG too much) I'd love to get the 550 and a full exhaust. What exhaust system though? I have no idea. It is down to the Yosh (Jake the Garden Snake) and Graves IF, IF, IF it actually helps the power.
Thank you,
. Jeff .
@@240LTS it was a 550 ECU from them. The guy I bought it from put it on and it worked well for me. Had the Yoshi full exhaust on it and loved it. Was a little loud for my old ass but hey have to re live your youth right.......... sold the bike and bought a 390 KTM as I needed a little speed on the road. Loved the 300 but freeways sucked getting from A to B
@@scottsmith1897 ... Thank you for replying.
. Jeff .
I added a 550 performance ecu better performance again and runs cooler cheers
... Howard, did you have to do anything else after the 550? Re-tune anything?
Thanks,
Jeff
Maybe you've been asked this before, and perhaps not, but have you encountered anything slightly squatchy while you've been out on your adventures?

Mine has a 7500rpm vibration, all normal until then, motor feels like it’s coming off the frame, is that normal?
Have a new discount code for seat ?
Does this work for the crf 300l too or just the rally?
don't make an exhaust for the KLR....😪
Not a chance you get 15% with only an exhaust, maybe 3hp. Just to compare, a KLX250 punched out to 351cc with full exhaust and air box mod gained maybe 8hp.
The 300L has 27 horsepower in stock form. 3hp would be 11%. Not 15, but close.
Gideons Tactical makes videos about stuff like that. I believe the host on that channel uses a Zoleo

Will they ever produce a 300 for the US?
Question about the exhaust. Will the stock Honda heat shield fit back on over the Graves exhaust?
No
Watching other crf300l reviews, how the suspension would bottom out, how did you fix that, with your "heft"?
I bought this one with an upgraded rear spring
Nice upgrades! Any worry that the new exhaust may melt the turn signal?
I have absolutely no doubt he already did.
I’m skeptical of the claimed numbers. The difference is so small that it can be even down to the setup of the dyno. Should have tested it yourself!
Edit: just checked the website, the graphs are not there, maybe they never were, maybe they took them down. Either way good shit.
How can i get that crash bar?
Discount code for Seat Concepts doesn't work. Nice video, though.
Amazing trails! I’d love to ride there. Where is this?
Oregon I believe.
Dork what's you height and weight?
