I discovered Odesza my freshman year of highschool in 2012. Summers gone. I still remember listening to the album on repeat in the fall of 2012. What a time to be alive.
I’ve never been a huge EDM listener but when I heard these guys, I was hooked. I first saw them live in august 2022 at merriweather in Maryland and it was the greatest show I had ever seen. These guys are amazing
As an "Odesza cult member" (per my mom) its difficult to describe the impact they've had on my life. things havent always been easy in life but for some reason their music makes me want to face them head on. LOL yeah.....Im just so thankful hahah. I hope to tell them in person, but if I dont its ok. I get to live life with less weight. Thank you for this Audio Eats!!!! excuse me while I wipe tears :)
This was incredible. A must watch for any deep ODESZA fan. Shit it’s a must watch for the causal fans, too! These guys are geniuses. I was expecting you to touch on the lore the unreleased VIP mixes have on the fan base. Waiting years for official versions to come out. Regardless this was perfect. Thanks for putting it together!
It's wild how they blew up out of seemingly nowhere. No doubt that Sun Models and Say My Name played a huge part in bringing a ton of listeners to them. Side note, can't believe this video is in the 100's of views right now. Here before this blows up to the millions. Excellent work, love to hear this story!
Yeah their career has been impressive, they never really seemed to struggle, everything just worked for them. And thank you for the kind words! Hopefully it will be in the millions sometime down the road!
Dude this video amazing, I love it so much. I love the fact that you included so many things like the tours, remixes, and more. Keep up the good work man!
I found out about them in 2016 when the Microsoft video game Forza horizon 3 came out. The game had radio stations that you could use and listen to music while you were driving around two of their songs were in the game and I immediately fell in love with their music. Since then, I’ve been there for every album and single releases and just saw them in concert in September of 2023. They’re now my favorite artist and the best artist I’ve ever seen live.
I remember when Odesza threw a show at the Viking Commons in Bellingham, pretty much the dining hall at Western. Saw them open for Pretty Lights the next year, what a trip.
I was at lost lake festival az 2017. Someone or something called Odesza was about to come on. Last show on the last night. They quickly distracted me from my romantic inconsistencies of the evening and quickly proceeded to raise all standards of my tastes in entertainment and opened my heart to a new scale of love
I'll offer an anecdote, which is that I was at CRSSD festival in March 2015 where they played Bronco for what I later learned was only the 3rd time. Nobody in the crowd had heard it, and it was the final closer at the end of an otherwise strictly dreamy-styled set that you'd expect from them at the time. To this day, as someone who has seen hundreds of electronic shows, that horn drop in bronco at that show was the single most wild crowd reaction I have seen. At a time when trap/dubstep/womp-y music was so massive and ODESZAs softer tones seemed like their edge, it was really the ultimate flex to drop the single coolest trap beat of the entire festival/year. Good memories... maybe its nostalgia/bias but I still do prefer that live bronco version to the official Loyal. Chills every time!
Yeah Bronko was absolutely wild, I also saw them in March 2015 in Nashville and the energy of the crowd skyrocketed as soon as they played it. I agree that Bronko was a little bit cooler than Loyal, it's still a cool track but I think those pre drop vocals really set it off.
Odesza was introduced to me by my cousin in December of 2018. I hadn't seen him in years (barring a week in July that same year) and we hit it off like we had never spent any time apart. He has actually introduced me to a lot of artists I like now like AJR, Jon Bellion, Wooli, and Porter Robinson. For me, Odesza will always encapsulate that week I spent in TX with him. I even got to see them live with him at ACL in 2023 it was an amazing show 10000% would recommend anything they do live.
i’ve been a fan for a really long time, but I finally got to see them last year at Electric Forest 2023 I flew in from LA and missed a flight lost some luggage and got there a day late, but ODESZA made it all worth it
I remember discovering Odesza by complete accident looking for a song called Say my name by Peking Duck and autoplay sent me to Say my name by Odesza afterwards and I was immediately like "Who is this??? It's so fucking good!" Here I am nearly 10 years and a bunch of shows later with their icosahedron tattoo'd on me
From wikipedia: The band's name is taken from the name of Mills' uncle's sunken vessel, which was named after the Ukrainian city of Odesa. Only his uncle and one other crew mate survived.[17] Since the spelling "Odessa" was already being used by a Scottish synth band, they instead chose to use a form of the Hungarian spelling, replacing the "ss" with "sz".[18] The correct spelling in Hungarian is “Odessza”. Awesome Video! Wish they had more BTS videos, would be interesting to see a documentary about their live show production. Also, Late Nite was a rework of LLC by beachesbeaches, it’s a shame they deleted LLC from the face of the earth. It was definitely a great song.
Wow, this is an incredible timeline and so well made. I learned a few things that I didn’t even think about listening to their music over the years. Great work 👏
Makes me think of my first time seeing them, electric forest 2017, literally changed my life forever for the good. Thank you for this doc, and thank you odesza ❤️✌️
The way that they are able to make you feel something. It's definitely a different kind of music. As soon as I hear any song by them it makes me feel things.
Odesza was my introduction into this scene, oh how I miss them though. Altho I love how far they come a part of me is sad they are more mainstream. Harder to see one of their shows and the price is substantially higher now
Yeah that's fair, though if their ticket prices didn't go up their show production wouldn't be nearly as crazy as it is now. The first time I saw them in 2015 it was $15
Dude I absolutly loved this! I've always found their music very inspiring and outside of reading a few articles I've never been able to find something this informative about their roots and rise to fame. Thank you so much for putting this together! keep up the good work!
Seriously awesome work with this video! I've been an Odesza mega-fan for quite a while. Loved having all of this in one video. I hope they return to Redrocks... will always regret not seeing them there in 2018.
This nailed everything but did not mention their performance at Vertex music festival in 2016 that included a live orchestra. The lineup I believe may have been partially curated by Odesza, including Jai Wolf, Big Wild, and Rufus
Like a full blown orchestra? There are a handful of videos on UA-cam of that set but it just looks like their normal set to me. There's one video of their drumline performing with them during that set, but they've been doing that at every show for a long time now, and they have used trumpet & trombone players a lot in recent years
All of the videos of the earlier shows are ones I took at a show in 2015, should I upload them as shorts? I've got a lot of clips of show footage from over the years of various artists, I'll upload them if people are interested
I just uploaded all the ODESZA footage I've got, I put it on a separate channel for copyright reasons, here's the link: ua-cam.com/video/ukOr00h7jKM/v-deo.html
Tell me about how you first discovered Odesza! I found them through Pandora in 2014 right after they released In Return and I was immediately hooked
Same. 2015 they popped up on my Kid Cudi station lol

@@nellygrigorian9742 for the life of me, I don’t know why they are not more popular than they are.

Thank you so much! That's a good point, I really missed an opportunity there, maybe I'll do a part 2 specifically on live edits/VIP's!

Thanks for digging into these artists backgrounds. Really cool to have the artists context as a fan of the sounds they create. Subbed!
