Interesting as you get a chance to kick its ass if you get your hands on a certain weapon.
The SA-X from "Metroid Fusion" after you obtain Power Bombs and Space Jump.
More so interesting as you initially have to hide from it (separate list) and then get to kick its ass in the finale.

I have another. The second Hades fight in Kingdom Hearts II. Granted, you do have to stop every once in a while tonight some Heartless (you can’t proceed without killing them) but Hades himself is invulnerable and you just have to run from his fireballs until you make it out of the Cavern of the Dead, at which point Auron from Final Fantasy X chastises you for being cowards but commends you for running away. You can’t have it both ways, Auron! Pick one!
Giant spider from Limbo. You can't even run at first, just hop about while wrapped up in silk.
You do eventually take it down.
And they have talked about that spider before.

You do get to kill it in the special ending, if you can get the water sword. But yeah. Color fades and Godsmack starts blaring. Time to find the nearest handhold to swing from or section of wall to parkour on.

The dahaka from Prince of Persia, a monster that will stop at nothing to kill you and restore the timeline... except water for some reason.
The time is represented by sands in the story. And water is something that makes the sands not work like usual. Dhahaka is the guardian of Time. Thematically, it fits.

Kinda funny when you consider that most snakes have pretty bad eyesight (at least most of the time) and a phenomenal sense of smell. Might be nice to have a stealth section where, instead of focusing on not letting it catch sight of you, you try to keep it from smelling you.
I was thinking about the one level where you have to ride deer and run away from the giant troll in Castle Crashers.

No Dahaka from Prince of Persia: Warrior Within? Dude would randomly pop up and chase you throughout the game, amping up the stress level on parkour sections that felt way more intense than the rest of the game, heck you could only kill him in the ultra-super-special-BigMac-Deluxe ending.

Was listening to this while driving waiting to hear about him. But nope. Most of these bosses you run from one time. The dahaka, 20% of the game was spent fleeing from him
Yeah in the fist run of mine, I missed two of the health increasing stages so I have to fighy Kaileena again for the final fight. Which is a bad ending. In the second run I found all the stages and got the Water sword and fought Dhahaka. The funny thing is I never beat Kaileena(bad ending) but I killed Dhahaka in a few tries. Man I wish I could play The two thrones and the forgotten sands.

I had a boss I had to run from once... but that's because I spent all day playing online flash games and hadn't done the many many things I was supposed to do that day. I hid in the pub until it was safe to return to work 😬

Killer Croc from Arkham Asylum. As if being chased down by a bipedal scaly rage machine wasn't scary enough, you can't even look away from it barreling down on you as you try to escape his lair because of the fixed camera angle.
The first time I played that level it was late at night, the room was dark and I was alone. Let's just say I was very glad to be done with that mission

One suggestion I would like to make is Balrog from Street Fighter x Mega Man. I think you can technically beat him, but the idea of the level is that you're supposed to run from him as he spams his Crazy Buffalo attack until he falls into a pit.

what about the encounter with the other trico in the last guardian, during the part where you're separated from Trico? i remember doing a lot of panicked fleeing during that segment.
Remember when this trope got to Jane and Andy playing RE2 when they dropped into an obvious boss fight arena with G Birkin and thought the game was bluffing

Why didn't you include the Xenomorph from Alien Isolation? You can drive it off, but you can't ever truly fight back and kill the bloody thing.
Presumably because it isn't so much a *boss* as it is an *entity* that stalks you through the whole game.

@@thatfield977 Except those could be outright killed in 2 situations: Using a grenade OR using a sniper rifle with appropriate scope to shoot their otherwise hidden weak spots.
Xenomorph just retreats and comes back.

Ustanak from RE6 would be a good mention. You spend basically the whole Jake/Sherry route running from it, including some tense moments where you have to hit buttons to slide under things to escape, and a whole stealth section in a cave where shooting your gun or stepping on glass means you have to hide in conveniently placed lockers/dumpsters. Even in the moments where the pair do try to fight back he just comes back even more pissed off. It's not until the end of the game that he dies a fiery death in an exploding tunnel, freeing you from constant pursuit. In fact, you could include a lot of RE bosses since Capcom likes to make a stalking boss that will actively hunt you down and is basically a bullet sponge that won't die until it's convenient to the plot (Mr X/Birkin, Nemesis, Jack in RE7, etc)
Ori and the Blind Forest has Kuro, specifically during the post-Forlorn Ruins hide & seek and the Mt. Horu escape, and more recently, Ori and the Will of the Wisps has that frustrating Dune/Tremors-style sand worm.

The Arishok in DA2 included a lot of running.

How about the Dahaka from Prince of Persia Warrior Within? Not only did I run from him multiple times in the game, but I also rewound time so I could understand what he was saying...so I ran away from him twice...at the same time.
What about the SA-X from GBA classic, Metroid Fusion? You spend the entire game running from it, and you can only slow it down on its quest to blow you up!
Also there was the giant Bowser from the end of New Super Mario Bros Wii! You literally had to run from him across floating rocks over a flowing river of lava!
Sa-X was terrifying. Also the giant Robot from Samus returns has you run away until latter in the game

Would it Count in Zero Mission? As a Suitless Samus, you gotta sneak through and run from the Space Pirates with only your Stun Gun. At least you get to blow them up once you get the Super PowerSuit.

Doc Ock with the Carnage symbiont. It was by far the scariest thing I encountered, especially as I was barely 4 when Spider-man for the ps1 was made.
The Ancient Wyvern in Dark Souls 3? Run around the area avoiding those annoying long-necked enemies in Arch Dragon Peak to get to a drop point to perform a very satisfying kill.
Also Ellen's dinosaur puns are pre-hysteric.

For me, that's the ULTIMATE boss you can only run from. All the sequences were super intense.
I think the serpent section is what actually sold me on Sekiro, never played a fromsoft game before this
I just recalled that in Kingdom Hearts 2, when you're at Olympic Coliseum, there's a part where you go to talk to Hades, and end up running from him instead, and that's all you can do because you're affected by the Underworld Curse and have no strength. It's also the part where you meet Auron, so plus and minuses :)
