Despite this late start, he won our national championship and even defeated Kavalek! He also managed to get draws against Reshevsky and Benko. It didn't take me too much to consider the idea that Fischer missed and the plan to recoorddinate the black pieces, since it's the most aggressive move and black is up a piece after all. But also, I'm a player from the modern era of engine evauations and calculate the position with calmness, from the comfort of my home with a cup of coffee in one hand and the phone on the other. Bobby was a Diva, but this was a very tense situation, where you can't afford to lose with your opponent playing in this manner

Kavalek was about to lose within two moves, but saw a way to force a draw and did so with the two rooks and bishop. The draw was inevitable after three-fold repetition, there was nothing Fischer could have done to avoid it.

If that is the correct position at 11.12 when black King goes to D8, would not White queen to G5 check lead to checkmate in 1-2, if black places his Rook or Bishop in front of the queen they get taken either way and lead to check mate. Am I missing something? Was it not Kavalek's win?
