Yeah, the resolution thing is a huge issue, pretty much a deal breaker. Not because it cannot run at resolutions higher than 1080p, but because from what you described there is no option to full screen the game if you run desktop resolutions above that. High DPI support is pretty much mandatory in 2021 when more and more displays have 4k support. I haven't had a single 1080p device since 2014, not even a 1080p phone. Hope it gets patched, this game looks amazing in atmosphere and the gameplay looks really fun! Edit: it seems it got patched to support higher resolutions? YEY!

Best way to deal with strike groups is to soften them up with missiles. Not nuke missiles. Kh-15s. Use elint to find out where they are and hit them. Then fuck them up with incindiary and lighting ships. Every strike fleet ship has a weakpoint. Boreys you shoot down through the roof, varyag take out the left side and blow the ammo next to the bridge and destroy the thruster. If it dont explode you scored a mobility kill as it will fucking crash.

Here from Article 5 memes. I figure if the world's going to end I might as well check this out first.
I so want this setting as an RPG or even a miniature game!
The visuals are amazing and very innovative. Good games bring one or two new things to the table, I'm only 7 minutes in and highfleet seems to be on the 5th amazing one already. Visually, everything is special and the UI seems to blend into the action perfectly. I'm intrigued, wishlisted!
This games looks super cool - thanks for the review!
I'd watch a Let's Play of this on RepublicOfLetsPlay tbh
Don’t tempt me!
@@RepublicOfPlay guess I will have to go watch someone else play......
Unless....
The whole game is gorgeous, smoke and explosions effects are the best I've seen.
Try to look "Hammerfight"
I like what im seeing so far! Does this game offer endless replayability like FTL? or is it more of a one and done kind of game
You are unikely to succeed in your first run, and your progress in the run gives you extra starting cash for your future runs so it is indeed structured lot like modern roguelites altrough it is not very pronounced. Things like quests, cities types, patrol routes and such are randomly generated too.
My god the artwork is amazing! the design gave me goosebumps
solid review..its just so great game from 2 coders
Latest videos both on highly aesthetic games I like and very good for helping me try and determine my feelings, I got highfleet already I like it but it was very expensive, 40 bucks for me, but its also gorgeous and I bought it mostly for how it looks, carrier command 2 is very similar also expensive also pretty also interesting, but also a bit of a hard call, thank you for both these videos I appreciate them plenty
A single person made this.
Impressive.
Stream on Wednesday and video on Thursday, Darren you are a monster! Thanks for covering the game :)
Great summary of the game. I've watched several videos, but this explained what I wanted to know in a nutshell. Well done.
YEY!
LOL im getting anxiety just thinking about this game. LOL I know its not new but my heart rate goes through the roof playing CNC3Kains... if anyone interrupts me its instant YELLING at you I'm angry and frustrated... i mean I'm having fun but still. Some games put you in moods that can be...not good for your health. This looks like one of those. Frankly i don't need another game like that in my life. Looks cool tho.
Wow this got me hyped. Insta buy. Hopefully I won't regret. Thanks for telling us Darren! We can't all see your streams.
This game gives me memories of good old days cortex command
review of riftbreaker when it comes out?
been looking at its development for a while and very interested
Best way to deal with strike groups is to soften them up with missiles. Not nuke missiles. Kh-15s. Use elint to find out where they are and hit them. Then fuck them up with incindiary and lighting ships. Every strike fleet ship has a weakpoint. Boreys you shoot down through the roof, varyag take out the left side and blow the ammo next to the bridge and destroy the thruster. If it dont explode you scored a mobility kill as it will fucking crash.
Aww man, this looked like an awesome game from the Steam page, but seeing that 2D aerial combat just made me think this is just a slightly more modern Defender.
Don't get me wrong, Defender was my favourite game back in the 80s, but games have moved on a bit since then!
I always liked games where you build your vehicle piece by piece
The steam forums are hilarious pools of salt. crying soyboys complaining that this game didn't live up to their expectations demanding others should boycott microprose because of it. Pitiable, but honestly I see this as a great opportunity to reopen the strategic sim-like sci-fi games niche. Lot of potential here with this company.
Recommendation Gods came through again, in-depth but not hardware intensive...awesome.
3D graphics 10/10..
Asteroids style 2D game play.. meh..
I now see why it's so cheap on steam..
I’ve been interested in this game since it came out. Now that it’s on sale this week on Steam, I’m going to pull the trigger and finally check it out.
Don't buy it. It's a bugfest, like half of your fleet just disappearing and no way to load a previous save.
You haven't played Stubbs the Zombie: Rebel Without a Pulse.
That is the most immersive game ever. Period. Even more immersive than ET
Im on it!
I love there is a place called Nahor on the map.
I'm from the house of Nahor.. Well 2 doors down from Nahor. Nahor's Neighbour.
This game reminded me a ton of hammerfight and after hearing that sound effect at 12:16 i knew for a fact it had to be the same developer and it turns out it was.
who needs a squadron? when you can build a titan class vessle filled with 30 37mm turrets and blow them all away?
bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Nature, is Rome, and now, just like before, there is no need to bother Gods or pray, we have the sacrifice to prophesy the war, slaves to keep silent; and the stones to lay
Its a new Arkanoid...
this is the kind of game you want to buy physically.
Have you tried airships conquer the sky because if you enjoy high fleet you will definitely enjoy it.
Set maybe centuries into the future but still using the SPO-15 RWR display hehehe
the first game i played from this talented dev is hammerfight. Have to say similar to it, and hammerfight is my childhood with very good storyline
I want th iui s game to come to xbox so badly.... they Have a influx of Rogue like games.... yuk
i like the look of this game but fighting with only vehicle at a time against an enemy that can field as many as it wants feels super weird to me. Pretty immersion breaking imho.
They can only field 3 at a time. I felt the same until I realized they probably made the decision because this is the most fun
One of the best game reviews I've seen in years. good shit
Highfleet and The Ascent are my pick of top indie games of this month 😁
I agree! Really enjoying the ascent too
bruh just called a fukkking side scroller "immersive"... NO SON. JUST NO. I AM NOT IMPRESS.
I don’t think you know what immersive means.
It doesn’t mean “realistic”
.... I never understood why people go with ultrawide...its such a pain in the ass to work with.
