Found you through your KD:M how-to series. Looked up "How to play Xia" as I just picked it up, and you showed up again. Thrilled! Thanks for the awesome vid :)
Great video. Very well explained. Great pacing and really appreciate when teachers repeat things that have already been covered if the chance arises. It really helps drum those rules home.
This is an excellent video! Very timely too I might add, with my Kickstarter version of Xia (all in) inbound to my house. I’ve never played before and for sure will be using this video for learning the game. I really like your pace, clarity, simplicity in explanations , visuals, and production of video. Thanks! Chris
Thank you so much! Really happy you you’ve found the video helpful! I’m anxiously awaiting the small mission pack myself. Going all in was a good idea. The base game is really good but the expansion makes it fantastic!
Great video thanks. Just got this game and am still figuring it out and this video is a great help. Just to clarify, Missions. At around 35:00. You claimed the mission payment at the pick up point. Was just a simple error or do you have to fly back to claim it?
Good catch, Mark! Someone mentioned that previously and there's a note in the description. However, I always appreciate anyone who pays close enough attention to my videos to catch errors like that :-) It honestly helps me step up my game for the next time!
@@BoredOnlineBoardOffline I was actually reading the cards and that doesn't normally happen! :-). I appreciate the time and effort that goes into making a video of this nature and a minor visual typo just makes it more human. This video has answered many of my questions. Cheers for that!
I echo what cfosburg said... I can't wait for my KS to arrive - and then I can start rolling horribly in space ; ) I appreciate your channel - thanks for the work you put in.
@@BoredOnlineBoardOffline I was really pumped when I saw that the boat was in Vancouver (I live north of Seattle!) - then I saw it was being put on a train for Detroit : ( so close, yet.... keep up the videos - can't wait for a play-thru.
Just played this game last weekend with your help from these videos, but I have one question about NPC’s. Regarding the scoundrel targeting “nearby” ships I can’t find anything (online or in the rules) that specifies what nearby actually means. How far away is nearby for the Scoundrel? We just had him target the closest innocent ship during our game regardless of the distance away. Sorry to ask this all this time later but I would love to hear what the rules are on this! Thanks
Hey Ryan! Unfortunately I haven’t played Xia in over 2 years and actually sold my copy to help fund a trip to Origins 2019. I honestly can’t remember exactly how the AI works for it anymore. That being said I guarantee if you jump into the BGG forums for Xia and post your question there you’ll have an answer pretty quickly! boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/82222/xia-legends-drift-system
@@BoredOnlineBoardOffline Hey thank you for replying! I’ll head over there and ask on the forum. I appreciate the videos, they helped me a lot. Have a good week!
I'm back. : ) What about abilities like "Prototype Shield"? The card lists 3 abilities. The first two would work in unison so...either way...makes sense card would be turned face down after use. But the third option "When you use a shield to block damage for the first time, gain 1K". I assume this is just a different ability that you could choose to use (instead of the two above it) and then the card is turned face down and deactivated until the next turn? Just looking for confirmation. At first my group thought some abilities seemed to operate automatically, for the duration. Particularly some that don't have an energy cost. Thanks again.
Awesome video. Curious with the new printing of the game does expansion tiles colour black match with the base game tiles as I have seen other videos where you can noticbyl see a different in shade of black which makes it look kinda weird on the table.
I haven't actually noticed in the past. I'll take a look as soon as I get a chance and reply back to you. Also, I'll be filming a How to Play for Embers as well so you'll be able to see for yourself exactly how they compare.
Ooooooh....I see what you're saying now. Yeah I've got no idea about the newest printing of either the base game or the expansion. That's a really good question though!
GREAT video. I only just got around to opening my KS. : ) Small questions: 1. To sell or buy on a planet, or mine a debris field, the player must be on (or adjacent w/2movent to spend) the 'buy' or 'sell' or 'mine' space. BUT a player may use a gate, however, by entering any of the spaces surrounded by the gate's border? Or was that an error in the video? 2. An outfit can only be used as many times as it has cargo spaces with an orange dot, yes? Not the number of cargo spaces that it takes up, correct? Like, 'Hunter Missle' is three squares long but it only has one orange dot so it can only be used once per turn (unless somehow recharged). 3. Can spaces/squares on an outfit without an orange dot be used to hold cargo? 4. I'm very confused by the NPCs. Enforcer patrols between lawful planets but if an unlawful PC ends up w/in one sector, it'll veer off course and head toward that target? And scoundrel only attacks when she herself is attacked, otherwise it just hangs out at Loath and only attackes if another "innocent" (Lawful?) [says the card] ship is within six spaces??? THANKS!
Great questions, Armstrong! Give me a few days to get back to you. I'm at a work conference and won't be able to answer these until later in the week. Just didn't want you to think I was ignoring the questions :-)
Took me WAY longer than a few days to get back to you, Armstrong. Sorry about that. You've probably got all the sussed out by now but just in case here you go. 1) The gate IS the 3 spaces surrounded by its green border so any of the 3 spaces may be used to move through the gate. 2) Correct. Those orange dots determine how many times it can be used. 3) No. You should think of it as that entire engine outfit is the size of the actual engine. So the engine is taking up that space and it's not empty space for cargo. 4) I actually sold my copy of the game in order to afford my trip to origins so I can't reference the AI cards for the Enforcer and Scoundrel but it sounds like you've got the general idea of how they work. Hope that helps! And sorry again for such a long delay!
Sadly I just never got Xia to the table despite really enjoying it when I did. Xia wasn't the only great game to fall on the Origins sword. I nearly paid for my entire trip with just a small little purge!
Great tutorial, I love the slow and clear explanations with matching video. You should try using gender neutral pronouns, 'they, their, etc..' for games that are gender neutral. I see the same mistakes frequently in game instructions, especially games from pre-1990, it's cringy.
15 minutes in and already leagues ahead of the other stuff online. Thanks for taking the time to do this.
Thanks, Scott! Really glad you found it helpful!
I just played this game. Good teach.

@34:50, I believe you moved the ship to the passenger pickup location instead of the destination (Tigris Gate)?
Yep you're absolutely right! Whoops! I'll make a note of it in the description. Thanks for catching that, Josh! And thanks for watching!
@@BoredOnlineBoardOffline You are very welcome. This is a fantastic synopsis of a great game - well done!
Nice. I love this game. I'm surprised you did a rules video on just the base game when Embers expansion is a must. It really completes the game.
