Today I was thumbing through a copy of 'National Geographic' magazine from 1928 and saw an advert for Canadian Pacific. I remembered this song from way back when and thats why I'm here.
Really Loved Canada took the Rocky Mountaineer in2016 along the tracks of the CP from Vancouver passing through Lake Louise to Banff. brilliant, trip then a rental car to Jasper then back to see the spiral tunnels at Kicking Horse Pass, back via Calgary and plane to Toronto wish I could do it again, but crippled by a stroke so cannot drive anymore
Canadian Pacific Railway: such a huge part of Canadian federation and the opening up and settlement of, especially, Western Canada. Great history. Also a terrific song by George.
I first heard this song on an old 4 track tape in early 1970,s,I think I wore the tape away listening to it over and over again.I,m still listening to it in 2022
Had to give this one last listen on the day before Canadian Pacific’s merger with Kansas City Southern. It was great while it lasted, and I can’t wait to see what good the newly combined Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railway brings to our economy in North America.
Canadian Pacific is a railroad serving Canada and the American Midwest through its subsidiaries, the Soo Line Railroad and the Delaware & Hudson Railway. Between Chicago and Detroit, its freight trains ride on Norfolk Southern trackage. In 1984, CP founded the Soo Line Corporation to control the CP itself. In 1985, the Soo Line purchased the estates and assets of the bankrupt Milwaukee Road and absorbed it a year later. The Soo Line was usurped by Canadian Pacific in 1990.

Your lyrics are messed up These are the correct lyrics: Canadian Pacific I rode your ocean liner to Newfoundland Where I made a living in an iron mine When I got my fill I went to Nova Scotia And I fished them salty waters for a time Passing thru Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick I could see them rocks and cliffs of solid stone Listening to the seagulls calling to each other Made me miss my darling and my distant home Canadian Pacific Carry me three thousand miles Through the valleys and the forests To the sunshine of her smile Cross the plains and rugged mountains Keep this wandering boy from harm Canadian Pacific take me to my baby's arms The Atlantic disappeared on the horizon And Quebec lay waiting for me down the track For a while I drove a truck to keep from starving In Ontario I was a lumberjack Manitoba and Saskatchewan then followed Where the wheat fields and the Old Red River flows In the quiet hours your whistle on the prairie Touched my heart and set my memories aglow I could feel the nearness of her warm, soft kisses When you rolled into Alberta westward bound I worked on an oil rig to make some money For a ticket to the sweetest girl around Pushing on past Lake Louise in all its splendor Where the trees and Rockies touch the sky above I've got to British Columbia and heaven On your tracks I made it back to my true love Canadian Pacific, Carry me three thousand miles Through the valleys and the forests To the sunshine of her smile Cross the plains and rugged mountains You kept this wandering boy from harm Canadian Pacific You took me to my baby's arms Canadian Pacific Carry me three thousand miles Through the valleys and the forests...

My grandfather travelled from Lincolnshire to Vancouver with his new bride in 1902.
I live in Lincolnshire - that was a big journey in 1902- I hope they had a good life and stayed together ❤️
Sadly not.Four sons were born out there, including my father, but grandfather John became ill and the family had to return to Lincs. He died in 1925.
Very good song
A classic 😉👍
Nice Music Video!

Your lyrics are messed up These are the correct lyrics:
Canadian Pacific
I rode your ocean liner to Newfoundland
Where I made a living in an iron mine
When I got my fill I went to Nova Scotia
And I fished them salty waters for a time
Passing thru Prince Edward Island and New Brunswick
I could see them rocks and cliffs of solid stone
Listening to the seagulls calling to each other
Made me miss my darling and my distant home
Canadian Pacific
Carry me three thousand miles
Through the valleys and the forests
To the sunshine of her smile
Cross the plains and rugged mountains
Keep this wandering boy from harm
Canadian Pacific
take me to my baby's arms
The Atlantic disappeared on the horizon
And Quebec lay waiting for me down the track
For a while I drove a truck to keep from starving
In Ontario I was a lumberjack
Manitoba and Saskatchewan then followed
Where the wheat fields and the Old Red River flows
In the quiet hours your whistle on the prairie
Touched my heart and set my memories aglow
I could feel the nearness of her warm, soft kisses
When you rolled into Alberta westward bound
I worked on an oil rig to make some money
For a ticket to the sweetest girl around
Pushing on past Lake Louise in all its splendor
Where the trees and Rockies touch the sky above
I've got to British Columbia and heaven
On your tracks I made it back to my true love
Canadian Pacific,
Carry me three thousand miles
Through the valleys and the forests
To the sunshine of her smile
Cross the plains and rugged mountains
You kept this wandering boy from harm
Canadian Pacific
You took me to my baby's arms
Canadian Pacific
Carry me three thousand miles
Through the valleys and the forests...
