They had plans to make it a trilogy; part two being based in Cursed Earth with the Fink Brothers as antagonists and part three based around the ‘Dark Judges’ with Judge Anderson being integral throughout obviously… and the more ‘2012 Judge Anderson’ the better I say! Fingers crossed we will get all of this in the series and / or possible films that might follow :)
I loved both films, but Urban was incredible in the role. It's a shame the box office numbers hurt the chance of a sequel. I still watch Dredd often, so damn good.
The problem was that it was in 3D That's why I didn't go and see it even though I really wanted too. I had seen a couple 3D movies in the theater and it wasn't a great experience.
Can’t believe it’s been 9 years since Dredd 2012. I was blown away by that movie, it was hectic as hell! So intense and grim, truly Dreadful, pun intended 🤘☠️
I saw it in theatres in 3D. Almost didn’t because the 1st trailer I watched on it made it look like a mindless action flick then I saw a beautiful trailer with the “in for the kill” song and gave it a shot… Glad I did, incredible movie on the big screen in 3d
When it comes to the movies, 1995 got the look and feel, 2012 got the attitude and grit. Hopfully the third up coming movie (unconfirmed but extremely wanted) gets both.
Another amazing and comprehensive synopsis of all Judge Dredd movies and comics. Dredd 2012 was the best sci-fi / action movie out of the two. Keep up the good content and videos.

At 0:40 Mega City One is on the east coast of the former United States. Mega City Two is on the west coast, and Texas city is in the former state of Texas.
I really liked Stallone as Dredd because his voice is very loud and demanding of attention also I preferred the aesthetic of his Dredd as compared to 2012, even though 2012 is much more cohesive as a story, it would have been better suited as an episode of a series than a movie whereas Stallone’s is crammed to make a coherent story
No. Punisher had his whole family killed by a gang before his very eyes and thus became The Punisher/Frank Castle/ Man You Don't Want To Fuck With. The Punisher does not give a single F for the law.

It's worth checking out the Judge Minty fan film on YT, it's accurate to the comicbook look of Dredd (especially the lawmaster bike) and an editor for 2000ad plays the part of Dredd in a cpl of scenes.
A TV series with both Karl Urban AND Sylvester Stallone are Judge Dredd (!) sounds freakin awesome!. I can imagine Urban portraying a prime Dredd while STallone appears in some episodes as an old Judge Dredd, dealing with problems of a further future.
Good review mostly except he resides in Mega City One not Two. Mega City One is the majority of the US East Coast and MC 2 the West Coast with Texas City in the South
The Stallone film couldve been great if it stuck to one story line. Block War by itself wouldve been good film leading up to the Day the Law died. The Stallone tried to do to much fanservice and pull in various arcs. Still a watchable film. Im still hoping the Megacity one series gets picked up some time.
I liked the hammy stallone version of Dredd. Idk if it would have worked back then otherwise. But man. That new Dredd movie was incredible. It's like a passionate teenager wrote that movie, in a good way. It's what we wanted and expected from the Dredd universe.
I AM THE LAW, oh, and the first movie had its shortcomings, who the fuck were Judge hunters, it should be SJS judges who questioned him and found he sleeps in the helmet, and the Angels weren't cannibals in the comic, it has its merits too, but would like to see it as a tv series as its such a sweeping epic story line you could call on a lotta material but make sure it was close to the comic
Dredd 2012 was amazing movie. I hope that we can get another one, that will be a sequel to 2012 movie. And i would love a crossover between Dredd and Robocop for example. That would be amazing to see.
Over the course of the decades Dredd has softened his stern, by the book, attitude as expressed here. He has championed mutant rights in MC1 against the desires of other senior judges, his thoughts on democracy have also softened as he looks back at his actions and those of the Judges over the years. In one important storyline Chief Judge Fargo, the father of the Judges and the Judge system, is found to have been kept alive in hibernation after receiving fatal wounds decades previously. His last words to Dredd on his death bed were that the Judges were never meant to be a permanent institution taking away peoples choices, they were simply the best option after the nuclear wars to gain control of an unruly population. Something else a lot of people forget is that judges are given life extending drugs to keep them on the streets. Even though Dredd is, technically, in his 60's by now, his body, thanks to the drug, puts him physically nearer 50. The drug though cannot be used by Psi-Judges like Cassandra Anderson as it impedes their psi skills and so she ages normally.
@@mikryan5846 I mean the Power rangers are a variety powerful team with multiple generations and cosmic powers. They would give other teams and even video game characters a run for their money lol. The Dredd verse is still powerful in its own ways.

One valuable note to make is that the hotshot doesn't actually work the way it should in the 2012 version. In the comic hotshot is a heat seeking round, while in the 2012 movie its a hot bullet?
Yeah, that kinda annoyed me, lol. I mean it was shown as basically a flare .... why would he need a flare gun?! Its slower than a regular bullet so if he intended to shoot the guy in the head just shoot the guy in the head!!
They explain it in the comics because the judges get given a life extending drug to keep them on the streets. Although technically in his 70's or 80's his body is that of a 50 year old.
Can you guys do a video about Dark, Grim, Violent Comicbook Adaptations? Of course Dredd (2012) could make the list but what else? There have been some decent R rated that've given us that mature side of comicbooks. 30 Days of Night, Joker, Deadpool, Logan, and these are well known movies but I also want to know about any dark adaptations that went under the radar.
Judge Dredd 1995 its an awesome sci fi movie with incredible cast and amazing effects, a compelling story with many plot twists and a freaking great villain!!!
You were way too harsh on the Stallone movie. It has a great comic book feeling, unlike the newer one, which, although great too, is rather just like any other movie in that regard.
I love Judge Dredd 1995... the only people that don't like it are man childs. Most critics of the movie also don't even remember the movie because it's been like 20 years since they seen it. I've seen a critic even confuse a photo a cutscene from the PS1 Judge Dredd game with Judge Dredd 1995. Also... people say "Dredd 2012 stayed true to the comics" ...the helmet yeah, but not really much else, the city was crap. "Oh bit it was down to budget" ...shouldn't have done it then, maybe if they ditched the 3D nonsense, they might have had enough left over to create a decent city.
Aw man that show would be awesome! I wish someone could get an explanation about why, in the 1995 movie, all the unfinished clones get up from their pods to fight then immediately disappear from the movie 🤔
its a criminal act that the 2012 Dredd never got a sequel.
but then it prob wouldnt have been as good, but who knows

When it comes to the movies, 1995 got the look and feel, 2012 got the attitude and grit. Hopfully the third up coming movie (unconfirmed but extremely wanted) gets both.
I look at it this way: 1995 has the humor of the comic while 2012 has the grit of the comic.
Drop urban's dredd into the 95 film, and the feel of the comic would be captured perfectly.
Let's not forget Sylvester Stallone had the physical build to play the character. Karl Urban definitely got the attitude
