- A classic comic scene from the hilarious series of the Pink Panther Films from Dir Blake Edwards, with the character Inspector Clouseau played by Peter Sellers & his Sr in the police is Chief Inspector Dreyfus whose nemesis Clouseau has finally been assassinated by the Mob. In this particular scene the ghost of Clouseau comes back to haunt Dreyfus. The Eulogy given by him to the dear Departed colleague is a superb scene of epic-comic proportions. Check it out.
Always cracks me up when he's trying to stifle laughter and they think he's trying to hold back tears. 🤣
I like to think he's both choking back laughter *and* sobbing from the strain of having to bullshit so hard about a man he despised.
😂😂😂Comedic genius 😂😂😂
Herbert Lom is truly an AMAZING actor, his comedic timing is just perfect. He makes a great compliment to the late great Peter Sellers!
Past tense, unfortunately.

God bless Herbert Lom. That eulogy was acting genius. For that alone, I would give him the Best Actor Award.
Exactment!
I concur. This is one of the best, if not the best, pieces of comic acting I have ever seen.
@@wyesjcbnwr8606 no question. There isn’t an actor in the history of the profession who would’ve been better suited for the role of Dreyfus.
It's a shame comedies never get Oscars
Hands down the best eulogy ever given! Lom was absolutely perfect!
I have never laughed so hard as I used to at a Peter Sellers Pink Panther movie. Never once disappointed.
Herbert Lom and Peter Sellers were the Masters couple of Comedy they had a chemistry unique and Perfect.
I'm still trying to figure out what was funny about any of that.
My thoughts exactly!
@@doktormcnasty you don’t need to work it out . You either find it funny or you don’t . Just as one persons sexual preference is another persons turn off . For the life of me though , I can’t understand why you need to announce it , rather than just moving on to find something that does make you laugh .
@@Actingskint I was hoping anyone who did reply would be able to explain it to me. And you, my friend, did not. I've had things that were funny which I didn't get explained to me before so 'you either find it funny or you don't' is just something someone would say if they're incapable of explaining it and really just want to write some oneupmanship BS like "i can't understand why you would write that" instead.
@@doktormcnasty I guess you have to have a seance of humor. Something lacking today because us old farts have plenty of it. No disrespect intended.
"You knew him intimately."
"I hated him intimately!"
Such perfect delivery for one of the funniest lines in cinema! You will be dearly missed, Herbert Lom.
Don't forgot: "You're the expert that gonna track down his murderers. Hehe..."
"I'm the expert who would love to, to KISS his murderers!"
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 😂😂😂😂 😂😂😂
The Pink Panther Series would have not been the same without Herbert Lom. When I think of the Pink Panther it's Peter and Herbert together! What 2 brilliant men!
Don’t forget Cato!
Yes 😊
There is a time and place for everything, this is the time and the place.
The winking eye in The P.P. strikes back.... Genius!!
That is soo true 👍
And Herbert Lom usually had me crying in laughter he was perfect 👌😂😂👍🏻
And they thought Dreyfus was restraining "his tears"! Then he past out "in grief" during the burial! LOL
Lmao, he thought clouseà was dead and he was free🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Herbert Lom was probably one of the most underrated actors of our time.
In my mind he already was famous in the movie "Ladykillers "
Ron Rook not
Whenever I am feeling bad all I have to do is watch these clips and I can carry on. Thanks for sharing.
Herbert Lom is a 100% Humorist. His Facility Expressionismus are brillant and I can Laugh like I rarely do. God will blessed him.
Herbert Lom & Peter Sellers were comedic gold and those two in The Pink Panther films cracked me up with hilarity! Added to the gold mixture is Burt Kwouk, can't forget about him! R. I. P. to all three men.
Don’t forget David Niven, not only was he a supporting character, the actor was a war veteran
Geniusly written and acted....
The reason why this scene is so funny cause he's actually laughing during the speech! Genius Mr. Lom
Yes. I recently discovered Peter Sellers and Blake Edwards. Genius. But Loom is a very very important element of the movies. The pink panther one was without him and Sellers had not the French accent so much. The following movies are masterpieces. English and absurde and human full and so classy humour
exactly. He has to mask his laughter, and to the audience, and especially the wife of the commissioner it looks like he is crying, where in reality he works so hard to swallow is manic laugher. ingenious, brilliant.
The panther franchise was one of a kind. Never seen anything that even came close
This is exactly what I need to help forget what's happening out there in the world xx
Herbert Lom truly played Inspector Dreyfus perfectly.
John Cleese and Kevin Kline cant replace or reprise the role of Dreyfus
Lom also played in Horror Films too.
I love how Clouseau would bless them after they fell!! And Herbert Lom was so great in these movies!!!! Always loved Blake Edwards' movies!!!
That speech was perhaps one of the finest pieces of acting in a comedy film in history. I mean anyone can be all crazy-hyper like Tommy Boy and get a few laughs. But it is something else completely to craft something where you have to project such impossible emotions. The way he holds the paper closer before saying "a great man", it's just great.
Possible the best scene in the film. Drefus began to steal the show the more he lost his mind over the inept Clouseau. Still brilliantly funny no matter how many times I watch it.
'I'm a expert who would love to kiss his murderers don't you understand? 'Lol
Scene is too damn funny! 😂 😂
Yes, and although Sellers needed more and more incentive to don Clouseau's trenchcoat, Herbert Lom loved the films and wanted them to go on and on.
This is an epic performance. God bless his soul.
" You knew him intimintly" " I hated him intimintly" Lol!!! And our loss is heaven's gain Lol !!!!
+1 but *intimately
😂😂😂
Herbert Lom deserved an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, at least 5 times! ---------------He was incredible, & a perfect foil for Peter Sellers.----------------------WolfSky9
Dreyfus taught me how to disguise my laughter at times like that. Now I can laugh out loud without problems.
Dreyfus taught me how to become an insane criminal, commit all kinds of major crimes then disintegrate into nothingness and then magically reappear as if nothing had ever happened, in the very next movie!
Anybody with a computer that has internet access and is a member of a a social media venue can LOL without problems!
I was in hysterics the first time I saw this. He fainted right into the grave!
Esilarante: non smetto di ridere ogni volta che vedo i film della "Pantera Rosa" !!!😂😂😂😂
"You're the expert that gonna track down his murderers"
"I'm the expert who would love to, to KISS his murderers"
You dont hear that sort of lines nowadays. "Dreyfus" is my favorite character in Pink Panther movies.
Herbert Lom was brilliant in that role.
The eulogy is acting and comedy at its finest in double meaning and punchline of a long relationship. Herbert Lom’s most brilliant acting moment to be sure.
“Finally, I shall be rid of Clouseau, unless he’s found a way to come back from the dead!”
Dreyfus, you found a way to come back from the dead.
There's a pretty popular fan explanation that Strikes Again, disintegration of Dreyfus included, was a massive delusional episode after the opening where he loses his mind again.
Helps makes some sense, I mean how the hell did he come back from *that* ?
Dreyfus should have known that Clouseau can't be killed, no man on earth is capable of such a task. lol
Dreyfus should have known that he wouldn't win his feud with Clouseau, cause as it is known through history idiocy is unbeatable.
Herbert Lom was superb. The way his eye twitched. You really believed that he was having a nervous breakdown.
Herbert Lom was brilliant in his portrayal of a man driven mad by Clouseau's bumbling antics.
Oh Herbert Lom was the comedic genius in the Pink panther movies.
Yes he was!!!
Of course the comic genious is that all the mourners think that Dreyfus' overwhelming display of emotion is due to his undying love and respect for Clouseau. The irony is hilarious icing on the cake.
I grew up on the Pink Panther films of the 70's. A modern assessment of the series makes me reconsider who was actually the funniest character and it is Herbert Lom as former Chief Inspector Dreyfus. He gave a real.performance that makes me laugh more than the rather predictable bungling antics of Peter Sellers. Lom is a perfect comic foil for Sellers and their scenes together are the highlight of every film.
should have gotten an academy award for the speech
When I first watched the Pink Panther, I was just a teen in High School, I thought I'd wet my pants I was laughin' so hard !!
This is actually fantastic acting by Herbert Lom ! Laughing but at the same time looking like he’s crying !😂
Absolutely brilliant I laugh ever time I watch this
That starting park scene was classic. Sight gags aplenty.
Oh how I love this piece of gold xx
He could not get through the speech without laughing, I could not even get that far without laughing! I will completely lose control if I continue!
Wow! 4 decades ago. I imagine every adult in this movie has passed. May they all R.I.P
HERBERT LOM TO AGE 91 I THINK
Blake Steele André Marrane who played François is still alive as of 2018, he is currently 92 years old. Also Dyan Cannon who played Simone Legree in this movie is also still alive and kicking, she is currently 81 years old.
He passed away in '92.
Dreyfuss what a character! Cluseau was even better by the presence of Dreyfuss
Herbert lom. Ett komiskt geni!
Now that is acting!
Poor Chief Inspector Dreyfus. He just could not get rid of Closeau.
No wonder why he went mad.
Herbert Lom was so deliciously brilliant as Inspector Dreyfus ! -------A long time film " heavy", these films were a golden opportunity to play THE perfect foil to Sellers Clouseau. -----------------------------WolfSky9
Brilliant
For the shear suffering that Herbert Lom went through at the hands of Clausau they should have let him have six free shots at him without fear of being charged absolutely hilarious 😂😂😂😂
WHEN I WATCH A PINK PANTER FRANCHIZE OVER AND OVER AGAIN IN SOME PARTICULAR SCENES HERBERT LOM MAKE ME LAUGH EVEN MORE THEN PETER SELLERS...TRULLY A LEGEND!!..BOAT OF THEM!!
Poor guy. Visiting the tombstone and gets karate chopped!!! 😅😅😅😅
What an acting performance in the church!!
Hope Monsieur Lom can feel all of our love and admiration from heaven...
you bet your life, he can
よく、この様なコントが閃くのでしょうか? 天才です。
L'apoteosi della comicità... GRANDI attori.
The scene at 1:49 is only scripted but the character of the man opposite Dreyfuss is a complete and total piece of dreck. He should not be asking the newly released Chief Inspector to be honoring Clouseau at a funeral service memorial. He knew Dreyfuss hated Clouseau. That taller man is heartless and hard headed!
Pink Panther. Way funnier than anything today. You had to be there to know.
OMG!!!! Great stuff!
Clouseau finally used a karate chop that worked.....on an unsuspecting old man.
What a Actor Peter Lom is.
Here’s a simile 4 u; “Funny as a fart in the bath tub”🤣
Imagine if they made it look like clouseau did die, and it would just show dreyfus celebrating freedom and the others mourning, then it would show his funeral by the end of the movie and clouseau would expose himself like that. That would make him the king of comedy
They just don't make comedy like this any more,
Great actors can play any part. Herbert Lom wasnt a comic he was a great actor who played the character he didnt look for laughs he let the character do that.
Cobra Action Lom was forever grateful to Blake Edwards for casting him, up to that point he’d been playing nothing but villains and Nazis, Panther gave him an entirely new audience
@@jennifersman7990 Yup. I do remember him playing a psychiatrist though in a tv program the human jungle one of those fantastic tv series of the 1960's with a another great theme tune ua-cam.com/video/qD_R_TRiwAM/v-deo.html

Herbert lom is brilliant
4:16 It both my thoughts and thoughts:
Dreyfus- Nice to not see him again.
(Behind Bishops)
Clouseau- Hi!
Dreyfus- Who is that bishop figure?
Clouseau-It me!
Dreyfus-What!?
(The Sculpture of Bishop-Figure)
Clouseau-So, it's me, Clouseau!
Dreyfus-Huuuuh .... oooh ...
Ssssuuuuhh, bonk!
And everybody thought that Dreyfus missed Clouseau when he fell down in the tomb of the transvestite. Though it's quite exaggerated ridiculous. hehehehe
Genius!!!
Edwards and Sellers and Lom and company made these big gags and pratfalls seem as natural and inevitable as breathing. The reboots with Steve Martin are so forced that they elicit cringes rather than laughs.
There is only one Sellers and Steve Martin cam never be the Pink Panther. Though he tried his best to
I love Dreyfus bahahahaha
I am just now learning about these people and now they are all gone. What a cruel world we occupy.
Peek-a-boo? ( In the scene just prior to this clip where Clouseau was hiding in Drefus' closet)
Aaaugh! The reaction by Dreyfus could be a meme!
Ps Oscars should be given to comedians before they go to dramatic actors.
Any good actor can make a crownd cry, but very few actors can make a crowd laugh, yet alone laugh hysterically.
Comedy is a far more difficult than drama. Thus Herbert Lom rightfully deserved an Oscar for his performance in this movie.
Richard Dreyfuss is close to being the only actor to win an Oscar for a sitcom movie.
It's kind of sad that Clouseau is so oblivious to how much Dreyfus hates him
Clouseau is oblivious to everything.
His ego won't allow him to believe anyone hates him. Envy him? Sure, but nobody could possibly hate him. Only a madman could hate Chief Inspector Clouseau.
Sad? Surely you mean hilarious!
@@emansnas They're not mutually exclusive
@@coralroper6876 They are after one's chosen. But to each his own, and apparently that is Melpomene for you. But that's okay, I guess
Check gain and/or sound levels when recording. The peaks SHOULD consistently hit just over the red line, into the over-modulation area. This sound track is too soft; cannot be comfortably heard :-(
I love the fact that Dreyfuss kept a cigarette lighter that looked like a gun in his desk drawer. And then a real gun along side it. An accident waiting to happen. He was just as mad as Clouseau.
Show up at your own funeral. Crazy
Clouseau really thought that Dreyfus would be ecstatic that he didn't die.
James Lade Clouseau wasn’t dead. It was Claude Rousseau that was killed while in Inspector Clouseau’s Clothes.
Actually that would be great fun.....and you would see who bothered to turn up!
Herbert Lom is Dreyfuss. He was even funnier than Peter Sellers.
Agreed!!!! I'd have to say Inspector drefyfus is my favorite character from the pink panther movies. Cracks me up every time i see him trying not to laugh as he reading the ulogy!!!
How about lowering the ad sound to a level below OSHA’s 85 decibels standard for hearing protection?
I think without herbert lom the films would not be so funny
RIP Herbert Lom
Herbert lom was a brilliant allround actor who could play anypart
Peter Sellers, a comedic genius of the first order. I've shed many, many tears of laughter because of Inspector Clouseau of The Serte.
RIP MR Sellers. Our loss is most certainly Heaven's gain. When it rains, it's because God and all the angles and saints are in stitches because
Chief Inspector Clouseau is on the case
Sound is too low 😭
Pookey blue!
3:48 I don’t understand what made that guy faint
???
🤔
Actually he got shot...
@@t.b.g.504 How could the bullet have gotten over there if they were firing a totally different direction. It makes no sense
Thes two should've teamed up for other films.
The comedic genius couldn't be replicated, though, and that's why we'd watch.
Sound is way too low
Lom was utterly brilliant ..... but why were the honour guard given the order "Feuer.." and not "Tirez .." ...?
I wondered that.......
Peekaboo?
Actually Insp. Dreyfus is not crying or sad while reading the eulogy, he's actually trying to suppress his laughter at the mere mention of how great a man named Clouseau, but to the rest of the congregation he looks like he's crying...
Yo, Syd!...
I can't believe you figured that out all by yourself! What a genius!
Without you explaining this, millions & millions of fans would not have a clue about this.
