- Join us as we follow every eye twitch of Chief Inspector Charles LaRousse Dreyfus played by the late Herbert Lom, during his slow decline into madness over the course of these classic Pink Panther movies:
A Shot in the Dark (1964)
The Return of the Pink Panther (1975)
The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976)
Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978)
Trail of the Pink Panther (1982)
This video is for entertainment purposes only.
Herbert Lom and Peter Sellers... perfect comedians.. RIP Herbert & Peter
Lom passed away in 2012, about 2 weeks after his 95th birthday. I never realized he lived that long.
Herbert Lom was a GREAT actor, despite becoming famous mainly from the Pink Panther series. I remember him in Kubrick's "Spartacus" and Dassin's "Night and the City"!
He was excellent as phantom of the opera 1962
El cid
He played a very chilling villain in the German western Der Schatz im Silbersee, one of the most successful European films of the 1960s. As he came from Prague, he spoke perfect German as well.
On of the greatest actors, ever.
He was also great in The Lady Killers. (Which also had Peter Sellers in it.)
Poor, poor Dreyfus. At first I felt so bad for him.
But then... I felt so really, _really_ bad for him.
The eye tick is absolutely amazing and real shows someone on the brink of cracking 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
“Minky? You said minky!”
Never fails to make me laugh.
🙉🙉🙉
One of my favorites, too.
But have you a Minky Lizonce?
This video is a compendium of the best comic acting and screenplay writing in the world --- not just Herbert Lom and Peter Sellars, but everybody on the screen! Few people today know that Herbert Lom was for decades a very hard-working and reliable character actor who specialized in different kinds of villains. Then suddenly he became a comedy super-star because of the Pink Panther series. The mere fact that he was in the movie at all was funny to us then. He showed the way for Leslie Nielson, who went from stiff-in-a-suit in boring movies to a star of classic American slapstick. Thanks for putting this together for us. I wonder if the younger generation can appreciate this as much as we do.
Lom really is the yardstick for playing an aggrieved boss!😂
I totally agree !! 😂😂
I don't know whether or not it's true but I suspect that the idea of Dreyfuss playing an organ in The Pink Panther was Herbert Lom's idea as he had played the Phantom in an earlier version of the film Phantom Of The Opera.
@@philjones1013 I bet you're right... also the criminal mastermind playing an organ has been around for a century.
Even in death, Inspector Clouseau keeps drives Dreyfus insane! Hahahahaha
Got to hand it to Dreyfus he was so angry at Clouseau he came back after a direct hit of a doomsday machine
He ran amuck with a machine gun. He spent time as criminally insane at an asylum, escaped and held the world for ransom, seemingly evaporated, and yet in the next movie he's back as chief inspector. One must question the hiring practices at the Sûreté.
I think that entire film was dreamt by Dreyfus
Herbert Lom's voice is so wonderful he could read a rag magazine and make it poetry 😍
Every time Dreyfus saw/mentioned Clouseau, he has a mental breakdown.
And suffers physical pain 😂😂😂😂😂
I don’t know how this ended up on my feed, but it reminds me what a great foil Herbert Lom was for Peter Sellers, and how his talent was overlooked because of Sellers’ brilliance. No one could play this part better.
My son and I to this day still laugh till our sides split at all of these hilarious films!!😂🤣
The pinnacle of slap-stick and comic brilliance in its time. Peter Sellers and Herbert Lom, a partnership made in Heaven ( or Hell). I cannot but cry tears of laughter at the impossible antics of Clouseau and the tortured nightmare of Inspector Dreyfus.
His kind will never
come our way again .. humph cackle twitch
He also played many years later when Peter Sellers was no more, in the movie "The son of the Pink Panther. He also played in the sixties, in german western movies from Karl May. Great Drama Player and Comic player. He was a GREAT MAN!
Herbert Lom is my spirit animal. By far my favorite actor in the Pink Panther films, far more than even Sellers.
Herbert Lom’s nervous laughter and pronounced twitch, is sheer genius! Great voice too!!
Dreyfus falling off the bench back into the water and then stepping on the rake was beyond funny. Classic.
@5:10 "He strangled her."
It took Herculean willpower for Chief Inspector Dreyfus to pull his arms back from Inspector Clouseau's neck.
16:14 3 years of therapy totally undone because of 3 minutes with Clouseau..
3 years actually
Clouseau: "Please, there is no need to thank me"
Blake Edwards did this editing trick that always made Dreyfus’s falls so much funnier. Edwards would cut to the fall when Dreyfus was already halfway down. I don’t know why but that made the falls even funnier.
Herbert Lom a great actor one of the best at Napoleon I have ever seen
I don't think anyone suffered more than poor inspector dreyfuss 😂 almost fell off my chair laughing so much 😂😂😂😂
The best running gag in film history.
Dreyfus gnawing Clouseau's ankle is the funniest thing in comedy. I have a Minky Lizonce, here ...
"I'm going to wash that man right out of my head! - *slips* - aaarrrgghhh!!" lol 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
at end, 39:00
"Give me ten men like Clouseau and I could destroy the world." lmao. . . And you could say that you had good intentions.
Thankyou Herbert Lom , Everything played straight making it even funnier. I always loved what Mr. Lom did and it would have been fascinating to see him play the King on stage in The King and I in 1953 . He is such an intense actor.
27:48 "Peek-a-beuhhh!" Herbert Lom is an absolute genius through the Pink Panther movies (I actually find his Inspector Dreyfus way funnier than Clouseau). The way he slowly descends into total madness with the twitching eye and insane giggle. "Minky? You said minky!". "Francois, call a doctor. I appear to have stabbed myself". "bimp? You said bimp?!"
I enjoy Herbert Lom as much as Peter Sellers.
What Dreyfus didn't know was Clouseau was actually a mutant with the powers of survivability and random chaos.
Yes... It was the poor Dreyfus's unfortunate Achilles heel.
Side-splittingly funny. Honestly, the whole series has had me in tears of laughter, laughing that much my sides hurt. The next day I felt like I'd done a 1000 sit-ups, then I remembered it was because I'd watched Pink Panther. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What happened to great comedy and comedic actors such as Lom and Sellers. Two of the best ever. We no longer have comedic genius like this.
Now you are rewarded with WOKE DEI.......enjoy!
The man was a complete WRECK!!!!!!!! 😂😂😂
Someone had to make this video! Thank you!
Thanks! I had a great time putting it together 😀
Excellent montage so hysterical…comedy no longer exists like this.
Before "The Pink Panther Strikes Again, the only other time I saw Herbert Lom wear a black cape & play the pipe organ was when he was in the Hammer Film variation of "The Phantom Of The Opera"
The moment I like best is the "apologizing" gesture of Dreyfus towards the doctor who see him running after Clouseau with an arrow stuck to his forehead. As if saying: "What can I do? Long treatment wasted... I'm crazy again!"
The Pink Panther movies were great and Herbert Lom helped make them that way.
Absolutely brilliant!! - thanks!
These movies are true comedy classics and could never be duplicated...Sellers is a comedy genius and Herber Lom is close right behind.
I would add Kato.
My eyes are twitching 🤣
Before he played the part of Dreyfus Herbert Lom was a polished actor who played straight roles in dramas and epics and was first rate in all of them. But cast as Dreyfus he became a comedic genius and whisper it, stole the show from Peter Sellers.
I could watch this over and over again, and I have.
Herbert Lom was magnificent as Chief Inspector Dreyfus!
However, I did not like the Trail of the Pink Panther. It just wasn't the same without Peter Sellers - no one else could play Clouseau!
Some of the best character deconstruction on film
You said minkey 🤣
I know that
@@RUAChristianu have a bimp on your head
@@LallanAlexHockstetter A bimp?
@@RUAChristian yes a bimp, a large bimp on your head
Chimpanzee muuhnkee
A doorman, two customers...and a Cossack!
Dreyfus was unironically the best part of the movies. Herbert Lom outdid himself every time. He straight up became a super villain in one of them xD
Herbert Lom was fantastic!
So funny and Herbert Lom was a brilliant actor. He was excellent in the series The Human Jungle.
The three best second bananas are Oliver Hardy, Ed Platt (Chief Thadius on Get Smart!) and Herbert Lom as Dreyfus!
Sellars is famous and rightly so. But Herbert Lom is just brilliant too.
Dreyfus was a long running gag, though oddly he came back from self inflicted oblivion via his ray gun to fall into Clouseaus grave followed by a dive into an iced up swimming pool 😅😅
32:08
"Its me!"
"I know!"
**fires gun**
😂😂😂😂
passed away for many years
but never fail to make me laugh...
Then Dreyfus marries Maria Gabrielli and becomes the stepfather of Clouseau’s kids..
Had no idea Herbert Lon was 95 yrs old when he died. ❤
I like the character's gradual descent into hell, from a smart, calm and reasonable man to completely mad because of Clouseau.
I loooove it!!;) Great actors!
I wonder if, Herbert Lom and Peter Sellars would crack each other up? I'd love to see the blooper reels.
Masterclass scripting and acting.
2:15
Dreyfus is cracking up, even before a doorman, two customers, and a Cossack die around Clouseau.☹️
One of the funniest men to ever be in movies ,, and underrated,, when he was banging his pistol ( thinking it was his lighter) and shot his nose off it made me roll
The actor did amazing job with Dreyfus
Having to play it straight and so regrettably pigeon holed the Panther films were tailored to his silky talents.
wash that man right out of my hair, then slips and falls down the stairs wahahahahahahah GOLD!!!!.
Dreyfus was actually funnier than Clouseau.
Yes, that is correct, yes. Chimpanzee Minkey 😂😂😂
there's funny, then there's Pink Panther funny - a level of funny other comedies strive for.
And you almost forget about the rake...
Mr Dunning, Mr Kruger your first patient is here...
LOM was Just GREAT!!
Too Funny!!
Herbert was a genius in this part.
Herbert Lom played a multi-lingual fixer in Scoop. His Swedish was very funny. Very talented actor.
Until we meet again and the case is SOLVED😂😂
Herbert was a genious in these films..probably better than Sellers
I cracked up once under similar circumstances and in the end I just collapsed in a heap laughing my head off for about 4 hours! Best 4 hours I ever had! Then I pulled myself together, bought myself a ham sandwich and shoved it in my ears! I was all right then.
Fantastic
Our loss is heavens gain 😅😅😅😅
Unless it's Amber Heard it's Hell's gain or downfall.
i kind of want that gun lighter that dreyfuss has. it's actually really cool
Strikes Again must have been a hallucination.
His real name was quite a mouthful!
Oh if we only had good, clean comedy like this now. It’s all trash now 😢
The pistol : a gift from my wife 🤣🤣🤣
perfect
With those flight feathers it won't be long now.😥
We'll be watching an empty nest box.
Safe journey swifties.
39:04 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
When Peter Sellers became Inspector Clouseau the more he became an idiot the funnier he became. No one could do what he did.
The actor did amazing job with dryfu
I like your channel name, I bet most younger people have no idea what a Jackaloopt is. When I was a kid my uncle in Kansas shot one while hunting antelope and had it's head mounted and hung in his den...People think they're mythological but people also think a magic sky wizard watches them and grants them unlimited wishes..🤣
That’s pretty funny! I never knew that! 😂
Love the pink panther movies chemistry between herbert and sellers were brilliant
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
😂😂❤❤❤!!
20:04 They will set me free and then...
Never apologize for Cole Porter
lol was a comedy genius 😂😂
As far as Inspector Clouseau is concerned
Everyone is an idiot🤣😂
How come in Revenge of the Pink Panther they never explain how he's still alive after what happened to him in the previous film!?
Clouseau's accent slips more and more each time he says Gambrelli...
❤
