In this episode 7 of the Crystal Digging Guide, we share our experience of a private pocket dig in the commercial section of the Fisher Mountain Mine.
This is one of the most productive mines in Arkansas with crystals of exceptional quality. This site has produced some spectacular, highly valuable specimen that are in museums and extraordinary collections all over the world. The Garfield Lewis Claim is located in the Ouachita Mountains in Mount Ida, Arkansas. This location is operated by @Avant Mining and open to the public for private pocket digs and tailings digging. I just want to point out, before you criticize the fee or mine operators, consider that the mine is offering this as a service to serious rockhounds and that this is a very special opportunity. I much rather have the option of paying whatever amount to experience a pocket dig than to not have a pocket dig at all.
Also take into consideration the tremendous operating costs at this mine and a fair and good pay for your tour guide and other workers involved. I think we can all agree what a blessing for the public to have this place open for your very own dig!!!

WOW!That's absolutely amazing.
I live in the Mount Ida area and Avant is one of my favorite places to dig thru tailings. 25.00 per day . And you keep EVERYTHING you find . Very affordable. I always find crystals. I have found everything from small jewelry points to larger points that barely fit in a cup holder. Small cluster of points to larger yard rocks with crystal pockets. Most crystal there are glass clear . If you can put it in your vehicle it’s yours . I have never been disappointed at Avant . Avatar mine is just as good . Same price 25.00 and you keep EVERYTHING you find . At both places you can dig within 100 yards of your vehicle.

@@coreenaburke5378 both places are GREAT !! You will get very dirty and the red soil stains everything., so wear old clothes and shoes . You will also need something to dig with . I like to dig with the hand held garden tool that has 3 fingers on it . A cultivator I think it’s called . Also make sure to eat at Dees Deli in Mount Ida, deli sandwiches and Cajun food . Awesome food at reasonable prices. I hope you have a great time in Arkansas!!

I don’t think I would like the evaluation, but 1000$ is definitely a fair price. You could easily make that back and more selling them individually at shows and online, and still have crystals left over.

I had two heat strokes in the first two weeks of being here and another last summer. It took some time to recover so after all this time I started crystal hunting last week. In this particular video, I thought it was pretty clear that it is a $1000 pocket dig. That is the starting price there and that is how much this dig cost me.
In other videos, I don’t usually say costs because it can change with rising operation costs. Please refer to the individual mines websites for current information. ☀️

It’s valued by quantity and quality. You usually get your value in a half day to full day of digging.

Hard to say how close to the surface it is, this mine has been worked a while. There are pockets real close to the surface generally though in this area. I have seen some inches down to maybe a couple feet down.

Some mines can accommodate you. I would recommend wegners. They are excellent in costumer service and accommodating all people.

1000 $ a pocket and they watch what you take out and cut it off when you get to much. I don’t think so. If I pay a1000 $ then I’ll keep it all. I hate greedy people. Definitely won’t be digging at this place. I enjoyed watching you tho. Keep it up 👍. Happy Trials
You still get your money’s worth but it is a large initial investment for sure. They are all super nice and helpful up there. Definitely not greedy. One has to take into account the tremendous operating costs also and they pay their workers very well.
It’s one of those bucket list items for some folks which makes money only a secondary thought ✌️
