I absolutely loved the demo, and getting Xeen, the team behind the Trials of Mana remake, to work on this was a stroke of genius. They have such amazing skill at translating pixel games into full 3D adventures

Like you, I knew nothing about the Romancing Saga series growing up as a 90's kid (until the shadowy early years of the Super Famicom emulator scene, where wispers of Final Fantasy 5, Seiken Densetsu 3, Bahamut Lagoon and Romancing Saga 2 caught my ear later during high school). The history of this series gets even more interesting too, with it's connection to the Final Fantasy Legends branding for the original Game Boy. I was especially captivated by the way you explained the overall flow, atmosphere and gameplay of Romancing Saga 2. I love the core storytelling design focusing on a legacy of characters spanning multiple generations. It gives me great Dragon Quest 5 vibes. In DQ5 the player character was raised by the legendary hero, but your character itself was not the actual "chosen one," but rather your children were. I thought that was a fun twist. And Romancing Saga 2 seems to take an equally fun twist on the classic "honored and respected" legendary heroes plot device. Rather than simply having the legendary heroes remain revered, instead they become corrupted and opposed to the main cast. It's an interesting design choice when executed well. And having the player confront this threat through multiple generations of characters is quite the set up worthy of a classic JRPG from that golden SNES era. In that regard, after watching your fantastic video, I am happy to say that I have supported the official release and bought the classic port of Romancing Saga 2 for Switch that released in 2017. I'm already loving my time with it. After experiencing the classic gem that I missed out on in the 90's first, I fully intend on buying this remake next. Thanks for putting this game on my radar Derek. Seriously man, getting to watch your channel grow from the simple "Game Collection-only" days to the fantastic variety of content you now offer has been awesome. And you still manage to balance a full time job and a healthy marriage on top of it all - you have to share your secret bro!! (but that's a discussion for another time I suppose lol 😅). Square-Enix putting more love into their games lately. Their recent games don’t feel generic anymore, I noticed it with Visions of Mana and now this. Great times ahead :)
They've been making some _big_ changes in the last year over there, I'm not sure how many of those changes have manifested in games coming out _this_ year but I've got a really good feeling about a lot of the signals we've been getting from the top of the company lately. :)
I put a few hours into the game last night picking from the demo and it's so damn good! There is so much to love about it but there is something about the way the characters are animated that I just love so much.
I wanted to give you an update. The ghost game, the lost legend, Chained Echoes physical edition (PS4) has actually come into existence. It arrived in the mail today, I opened it up, played it, it's real. Looking forward to unchaining my echoes that I built up from waiting for this game so long. 😎
the demo really blew me away. sure there were slight difference in game mechanics when compare with minstrel song (my first romancing saga) is like bp and formation effects.

@@feiwong3634 Hope they can put in more dialogues and complete polished personal quests. Like Ellen, for example. She has next to none personal quests. She just has her theme and that's it. Khalid's story too. His quest with the old kingdom can be much more. The original feels so short and unfinished. If there is a RS3 remake, then I recommend Saga Frontier 1 & 2 Remake next in line. These two are really good games.

Thanks Grind! My favorite RPG is tough to nail down, because it's got a lot to do with vibes and my mood. Some days it's Grandia, some days it's Breath of Fire III, maybe EarthBound or Terranigma. Lately the Trails series has been keeping me enthralled, but that might be some recency bias at play. On the alcohol front, you'd probably surprised how rarely I have a drink. Really kills my weight-loss momentum. 😅

I may try this game if ever goes on sale for really cheap, but by then I am sure better games will be out haha. This does look like the best of the saga series that I have ever seen, but I don't like the way any of the in game systems are set up at all in this series. I warn people while these systems may seem fresh and different in the beginning, they will get old real quick. There is a reason this series never sold well and mostly stayed in japan. If you got money burning a hole in your pocket it go for it you might like it, but there are a lot of other games that are for sure going to be good coming out in the near future.
@@martinomagic9230 yes and dragon quest three is one of them. But this game is the best of the series I believe. I finished all the game boy ones as a kid and I picked up all the remakes on the switch. This was the only one I finished the other ones were a little disjointed in my opinion.
@@kennethfelipe823 Yeah this one looks the best of them that I have seen. I have tried most the saga games and have ended up quitting them all before completion. But this one you can tell they put a ton of work into with the remake it looks great. So I just worry to go all in right off the bat and the demo will make it seem more fun than it might actually be haha. I think of the Metaphor demo and if you went by that you would think the game is non-stop action. But right after the demo 70% of your time playing the game is teleporting around town talking to people. Which I still like the game after knowing that, but the demo was not a full picture of the game.
@@martinomagic9230 I always knew I was gonna buy a metaphor on day one. It’s Atlus. so I’m totally into that metaphor is all about figuring out the grind. It has a formula and once you know, Megami formula, you know. it just took a little longer to decipher.

RS1 got a full 3D remake (Minstrel Song), RS2 got a full 3D remake (Revenge of the Seven), so when is RS3 full 3D remake?
I'm waiting for it too, it is my favorite on the series and it has to be amazgin to play it in the same vein of this remake.

This game was already the best in the series. Now it can finally shine in this form as one of the best RPGs ever made.

I haven't personally heard anything about content being changed in the remake, but I don't typically follow that topic very closely.
