I think people who are not interested in this game should try the demo.. I'm one of the people who hates saga games in general because of its levelling system, after trying the demo I changed my mind like immediately... They really revamped the game from the ground up and added some story + added voice.it's surprisingly made me want to buy it,but YS Nordic come first lol. I'll buy later in December though 👍
Looks like when you get a new emperor, it’s mostly a model change. All the mercenaries keep their levels and skills as long as you pick the same class and gender
Getting the team behind the Trials of Mana remake to work on this was a brilliant move. I'm hoping RS2 will be able to put SaGa on the map the same way Trials did for the Mana series!
I hope so too. It seems to be doing pretty well on steam, so far, I think. The thing I was worrying about is we’ve had so many fantastic JRPGs that some are bound to “not meet expectations” of the publisher. Visions of mana was very good but it’s underperformed and we may not see another mana game for a long time. We’ve got Ys X, Metaphor Refantazio and Saga coming out real close together. Metaphor is a game if the year contender and has probably stolen many of the sales. Dragon Quest 3 remake and Fantasian are coming out later. Turn based games are having a wonderful resurgence but some of these games are going to be on people’s “wait for sales “ list.

Thanks for the better explanation of the subsystems that other reviewers missed on. I was never put off by the system of skill level ups in SaGa games, but the fact that this version of the game gives you more details as to what is going on, is helpful. SaGa games are rough and the fact that this game dials it down just enough to entice new players to dive in is great. My first SaGa game was Final Fantasy Legend 2 and I wasn't sold. Then I picked up Final Fantasy Legend 3 and that was an excellent game. It felt like Final Fantasy 2/4 part 2. This was the late 90s and Final Fantasy 7 hadn't dropped, so we were still using the old numbering system. Anyways, thanks for the review.
SaGa is Love! SAGA IS LIFE! (also started with the gameboy games when I was kid and I had no idea what SaGa was). I just started the game picking up from the demo save! This is gonna be such a great adventure!
Yes! This is the kind of game I've been waiting for! Old-school at heart, but modern polish and looks. And they aren't kidding about the challenge on hard mode, loving this!
This game is amazing. I've been addicted to this since the release. The amount of world changes that happen all around the continent is insane. There's so much replay ability to check all the branching that can happen, it's insane.
I did not like the original game.. but this is a whole new level. Complexity, fun customization, town building, exploring, conquering and i dont know where to stop.. i am currently 12 hours into the game and it keeps me hooked... and the remix of the ost.. just wow
Glad to hear there's even more new content and additional QoL upgrades beyond what we saw in the demo. I absolutely love the Super Famicom version of this game, but, for lack of a better way to put it, it was just stressful. A lot of the QoL in this is just a lifesaver in terms of the overall experience without taking away from the story and aesthetic. Final Verdict: My disk is in the PS5 copying over the install file right now. Stay Awesome Vinc 🤘
This is why I love your channel, I didn't grow up with RPGs like this so this is all my first time playing. Great review I look forward to the game soon
imo There's one *very* important change not mentioned in this review that people who've played the original might like to know about: When you change to a new generation, forming a new party no longer takes 30 minutes. All your skills and magic are still equipped, all your equipment is still equipped (you don't have to pull each individual piece of gear out of the armory), and you don't have to go physically find each individual person you want to add to your party; you can just go to a tavern and easily for your party there. The only thing you have to remember to do each time is go to the Training Hall and learn your new formation. Just wanted to say this, because personally, the extremely long party formation time is what singlehandedly ruined the original for me. Just the fact that this is fixed makes the game infinitely better to me.
Not a big fan of causalisation of a game but in this case i really appreciate it, i tried to play romancing saga 3 the remaster and drop it cause i couldnt understand how to play it. Changing the subject i really recomend to you guys to play DQ 10 offline is a really fun game and it has an english patch, dont know if it is complete cause im playing it in japanese, David you should do a video of this topic if you dont already have one.
I'm glad to hear this game is great, I love the SaGa series. I'm just not sure what I'm gonna get into next, currently wrapping up Visions of Mana which is turning out to be a really good Mana game, I'm not sure if I want to jump into Metaphor ReFantazio or wait til my copies of RS2 and Ys X arrive. October May end up being a month for the ages as far as RPGs are concerned.
Totally downloading right now. Played the demo and really enjoyed it. I feel like right now is like a great time to be classic RPG connoisseur. This year especially Has been like a feast after a looong famine! And I absolutely love it. I think the next big thing I am excited for is Expedition 33

Just completed it. Nobody does JRPGs like SquareEnix. The QOL they add with each new ISP or remake is just great. For example, there is only fast travel and it's useable from anywhere almost all of the time, except for special story bits of course. The enemy weakness system appears lifted straight from their Octopath Traveller, and works great. It makes you think about combat. Enemies scale in difficulty based on the number of encounters, so endless grinding is pointless and can even be counter-productive, I've heard. That said, I still just downed every mob that got in my way, and it was never too bad. If you play all the weaknesses right (maximises TP for the encounter), you become pretty OP anyway. If you enjoy JRPGs like I do, you'll love this.

On Switch i finished the Demo and immediately bought this $50 game! i usually WAIT and buy on a sale. This game made me want to play it right now so i bought and am playing a new character. Great game!
I am so excited to play this later today. I loved the original when I played it years ago,so this remake makes me happy. I am also just a SaGa fan in general.
This is gonna be my first SaGa game! So excited. It was a rare preorder for me. I dont normally love newer looking games but it seems to hit a sweet spot and middle ground of tons of different things I like.

November was ys x month , but one month back i played the demo of RS 2 and i was totaly hooked. The game has a fantastic atmosphere its like i play dragon quest with a crpg from the early 90 s and an early FF toping . Plays realy well on the switch with some vram issues when loading skins . 10 hours in in two days and the game is utterly stunning !! Square keeps on landing one good aa remake every year !
I own the RS2 remaster (along with another 3 three SaGa games), and it's been a pleasant surprise to know so many people saying positive things about this remake. It's also nice to see the studio that did the ToM remake improve so much with this game. You can tell they've had their hands all over this remake. Overall, Square has done it again in cooking up a great remake.
I believe there’s supposed to be a SaGa Frontier II Remaster but I wished for that game to get this treatment that Revenge of the Seven got. Looking forward to seeing what you think of that game too whenever it comes out. Great video! 😄
GOing to pick this up at my local bestbuy today for Switch, was the last physical Copy I could find in the area without driving 50+ miles. I'm giddy to go pick this up, wifey is going into surgery tomorrow it will keep my mind busy while i'm in the waiting area.

So I have three more games i want to get but only can afford two of them for now. The new Dragon Age, YS X, and this one. In your opinion which 2 should i get and save for later!? I dont know if you played the new Dragon age yet but it does look amazing! Love your videos and we are JRPG heaven right now its a bit overwhelming!
I'm stoked to play this. My only experience with the SaGa series was the PS2 game, and I didn't even play it all that much. but this looks really cool. Hopefully, if it does well, they'll remake 3 as well.

For my Switch, I imported physical copies of Romancing SaGa II and IIi. It’s kind of similar to having Collection of Mana, which has Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana in the old 16-Bit glory, and I own Secret of Mana for PS4 and Trials of Mana for Switch. So, I’ll be getting Romancing SaGa II Remake. Oh, it’s the same thing with my Dragon Quest Remastered Collection (also physical import) and Dragon Quest III Remake and Dragon Quest I+II Remake when they are released. Side note, I am so excited to also be getting Suikoden I+II Remaster and Lunar I+II Remaster for my Switch. With my Pixel Remaster of Final Fantasy, Sea of Stars, Chrono Cross, and Chained Echoes (all physical copies), it’s a GREAT time to be a JRPG fan!!!! Now, where the hell is CHRONO TRIGGER???!?!?!
Oh my god!!! How many years it's been since we got a more back to roots... dungeons, towns, fields! Not the Unlimited, Graces, and Emerald take on the series. It's been since the PS2 since we had a new one like this!!!!!
I tried to play a fan-sub of the original “Romancing Saga 2” a few years ago & was sooooo lost! Since this remake is supposed to be easier-to-understand, I think I’ll pick this up! Downloading the demo on Steam now!
Not having to conserve magic definitely is a good thing for me! I love my flashy techniques in games but am always worried about wasting them before a difficult boss. I know my playthroughs of Frontier always end with me only using 0 JP/WP moves along the way since Sanctuary Stones were such a rare commodity. This one's on my list, though dunno when I'm gonna have time to play it...RPG fans have been eating well this year.
Loved the demo, cant wait to continue the game. And thank you for your explaination of permadeath because I wasnt too sure of what it entailed. This is my first SaGa game, it reminds me a bit of DQ11 which I loved. So really looking forward to this. Great review!
Saga games have always had lots of interesting ideas, but I never could enjoy them all that much cause of their difficulty and how very little is clearly explained Based on what I've seen from this remake, it looks like it'll be very enjoyable, and I've been looking forward to trying it out; a Day 1 purchase for me
I was harsh on the demo but I’m eating my words now. I can’t put this game down. This feels like a perfect blend or old school and modern styles. This dev team knocked it out of the park.
If a game have mermaids then i buy it immediately. Romancing Saga 2 looks a little bit dated from the graphic respective but as a whole experience is incredible ❤
Between this and the Trials of Mana remake, Xeen is on a roll. Which old IP should they take on next? Terranigma? Treasure of the Rudras? Secret of Evermore??
My only fear is: are the party members and etc actually have personalities and etc since they die and all so you have to collect a whole different retinue?
And now....we wait for "Romancing SaGa 3 Remake" 😈 Loving how they did with 2 (which I'll admit I was hit and miss with (though preferred over the first game) that it went up to my number one favorite (happy they FINALLY understand that it's that "mystery" that has made SaGa both great AND polarizing! It's good to have it, but giving players ESPECIALLY newbies on the fence a mode or so to make things ABIT easier to understand, NOT easy gameplay, just easier to understand while allowing Vets to still access the SOULD CRUSHING difficulty and give newbies the option to do so as well when they get an understanding of the systems to challenge themselves! The SaGa series stories have always been what I loved about the series! SaGa 2 had the MOST unique RPG story I have not even SEEN replicated ever really! Usually it's the other way around, Seven Heroes must defeat an Evil Empire and save the world. Instead the Seven HEROES have come back, become Evil and have enslaved the people, and it's up to the Empire to defeat them and bring peace! Hell the Empire only BECOMES an Empire because the lands freed from a Hero are so damaged and in need of aid afterwards that the Empire stays to fix things and the time it takes fosters goodwill that the area chooses to join the Empire willingly! By the end your FINAL Emperor/Empress chooses to END the empire after defeating the Heroes for good and saving the World. Turning it into a commonwealth as the purpose of the Empire is complete at that point! And long term it's better to end the line of chosen by fate! since I believe the whole POINT the story was trying to make is how DANGEROUS that "chosen by fate" thing we love in Fantasy like DQ can be. Better to give each territory BACK their autonomy, BUT still keep the UNITY the Empire brought as to avoid a needless chaotic situation ending the Empire out of the blue would bring about. That is something you see in some Fantasy Stories where the Hero gets the power of a God, but surrenders it to live as a mortal still as the POINT of the power was to save the world, once it's not needed, the Hero WISELY (Gurren Lagann anyone) as look at the Seven as an Example! Even the MOST NOBLE of them Noel was still corrupted even if he cooperates with you, he's even the only Hero Boss who will allow you to Retreat from his battles (as long as you DIDN'T deal with Rocbouguet at any point before him! Did so and he not only FIGHTS YOU ON THE SPOT but won't let you retreat), he still must be beaten, and many of them you discover were ALREADY on their way to becoming PROBLEMS in their lore that does give the Ancients AT LEAST a GOOD enough LEGIT reason to turn on them and seal them away! Not the Cliche "Oh they were scared that they did something needless" but not too much that your still left wondering if the betrayal was a good or BAD idea (as said a Good MANY of the HEROES make you realize they are HEROES in the "Demi-God BIGGER THEN LIFE" way then the "Hero saving the day" way! As Dantarg only attacks you cause he takes your willingness to leave him be if he leaves you and yours be as a CHALLENGE AND Slight since he believes the WEAK have no rights to demand ANYTHING from the strong! Essentially he takes your telling him you'll ignore him as you telling him you have the RIGHT to demand anything and attacks! Proving peace was NEVER an option and then lets not forget about their "Unofficial" addition who is stated to NEVER HAVE BEEN LIKED BY ANYONE IN THE GROUP and at best he only attacked your Empire at the start of the game because he wanted his OWN part of the world to rule and he simply let the OTHER heroes know with his death by Gerald that the Empire was INDEED going to be a problem for them) Plus I'm sure the Trans community who have played this game are having a field day with Wagnas and his "monster form!" Man had a lover in his Best Friend's little sister, yet his Super Form being Female is interesting, I get the concept that he wanted to make himself "Beautiful" so take that as you will! Reminder he's the LEADER of the Seven Heroes! I know some whine about "Marginlized" groups being made VILLAINS in stories, but I think they should understand that it's bad if their "Being made VILLAINS as a bad Stereotype manner with no substance to them" where in your want them to be "Villains with substance!" A "character" so to speak which is WHY so many Villains in fiction are still fondly remembered, even more so then the Hero of their stories because they were well done and their flaws AVOIDED the stereotypes of what they are! Basically making them a Villain you can SEE happening to ANYONE if they WEREN'T apart of that "Specific Group" like a Homosexual Male NOT being a "you know what" that you discover this FLUIDLY instead of having it forced in your face in a crude fashion. And even the Sylvando from DQ11 is STILL my favorite (along with his PARADE of Smiles LOL) because at FIRST you think the fact he acts the "FABULOUS" way that he's going to be a Stereotype, but no there are layers on him and frankly he is the games representation of the JESTER class from DQ3 without them being useless and annoying! Practically existing how he is! Making EVERYONE ELSE better by doing what everyone else ISN'T doing! Like lacking Healing, he's got you, need an attacker, he's got you, he will never be better then those SPECIALIZED in those fields, but he'll do well enough especially to those NOT good in those fields as a reminder of LIMITED Party Slots in the battle party! So he fits in and adjusts to any formation and is a NUKE if used in the right hands and mindset AKA not those with the "This character is useless and your stupid for using him!" And as I said EVERYTIME he talks or does something, I'm 200% paying more attention since he's gotten a laugh or MANY out of me and alot of good "What the Hell's" like that Parade you come across in Act 2 getting him back. He's Comedy relief while STILL being a character you can take seriously when need be. And lets not forget he's the BIGGEST Boon to your party, providing you, your SHIP which is his, but as he's with you, he's happy to let you use it. FRankly I'm a Straight Man, but I ALWAYS love characters like this Hero, NPC and Villain who are written quite well and not made "this is what their about" cause the goal is to make a CHARACTER, making a Cliche is NOT making a character, they must have substance and be MORE then a stereotype to be a CHARACTER (It's why Steve Cortez from Mass Effect 3 is my BENCH MARK for how to make a "Homosexual character" which is NOT to push his "GAYNESS" in your face! You only find out he's Gay because he's MOURNING HIS DEAD HUSBAND when you meet him, in a situation where LOTS of deaths are happening cause "The Reapers have finally arrived" and while I NEVER pursue the romance with him! I love how the FRIENDSHIP with him is developed, plus I HATE even in Straight romances how they make you FEEL bad for not going for them when they become available! Like Persona 5 is sinful for if you reach the point of the romance with a Girl Social Link that not taking the option makes you FEEL bad sans Futuba who is the ONLY ONE who never catches on that there was even an OPTION for romance if you don't pick it! Not that I ever pick it as I love Joker and her's "Big Brother/Little Sister with Sojiro as the Dad" relationship the game was pushing anyway! The romance just felt forced! But yeah Steve became my favorite GAY character because he was a CHARACTER I got to like, he wasn't a Stereotype, he wasn't FORCED on me, and I got to love him as a character on my OWN rather then this now a days "YOU HAVE TO LIKE THEM OR YOUR A INSERT-PHOBIC HERE!" Like that WORKS anymore! Even Canceling has been shown to ONLY WORK on those they have INFLUENCE on! Anyone they don't have influence with because they stayed away from their stupid clubs and such can only LAUGH at their Adult Tantrums LOL) What I like also is how they added more LORE to what was in the original. Like more lore on the Ancients and the Heroes themselves. Hell even "a certain Insect Queen" who was a literal "Giant Flea out of Nowhere" ended up upgraded to "the actual threat that constituted the Seven Heroes becoming corrupted in the first place to first defeat!" meaning when you dealt with her that started the expanding quest to make her a superboss, she was in that "oh was defeated and was slowly building herself back up till your dumbass came across her and kicked her again! Too bad for you she decided she'd use YOUR Base of Operations as the starting point of her COMEBACK TOUR" recovering her power that she faced the Seven Heroes FIRST under your nose then vanquish your heir and destroy your Empire as payback for the first defeat of your previous Emperor/Empress before seeking her vengeance on the Heroes themselves) I am going to wait for the first SALE of this game as I still have ALOT of games to go through (I don't buy a game outside sales anymore, Money is tight) and because I reached my limit of games I buy on DAY 1 pricing already with Unicorn Overlord months past! But the fact I will get it on the first SALE which will likely be -10% off means I DO want to show my support! I usually WAIT for a -30 or so % off. But if I buy it on OFF-SALE or a 10% off then that's me giving a FULL support (if I buy it at the 30 or more as I say, it's cause too much time has passed that my support means nothing since they only care about the first month or so of sales, so why pay alot when I can potential pay less! It's not like my buying it that late means anything anymore!)
@@davidvinc I agree, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is great to familiarize yourself a bit with the battle system and other game mechanics. Emerald Beyond is more complex and has no difficulty options, ease yourself into the series with this one.
I always liked when Fire Emblem did generational stuff, nice to see it incorporated into the plot for this game. Looks great. Ironically, the SaGa series hooked me when it was wearing the mask of Final Fantasy with the Final Fantasy Legend series. Here's hoping one day the talented team who made this can be given a crack at remaking Final Fantasy Legend 3, as I always felt it had a lot of untapped potential with its crazy Chrono Trigger-style time travel story.
@@davidvinc Admittedly none of them have aged very well. They would need a full quality of life boost like what this game got. FFL1 is so ridiculous with its random encounters and Heart Points I didn't find it very fun even back then.
Loving the game so far , about 7 hours in and feeling like just pulling a blanket over me and continuing the adventure to see where the story goes instead of going to this rave tonight 😂
Looks cool. I like the top down exploration a lot more than first person perspective, so this is another modern game that it is harder for me to like. I'm playing DQ11 and it's the same idea. I'd rather not spend my time fiddling with the camera.
Are the status effects still useful in this game? That was something I really liked in the 2D remake (and maybe the og version? Not sure). Even boss enemies could be debuffed.

Just wanted to say this, because personally, the extremely long party formation time is what singlehandedly ruined the original for me. Just the fact that this is fixed makes the game infinitely better to me.

My first SaGa game and I’m loving this game!!!
Not a big fan of causalisation of a game but in this case i really appreciate it, i tried to play romancing saga 3 the remaster and drop it cause i couldnt understand how to play it. Changing the subject i really recomend to you guys to play DQ 10 offline is a really fun game and it has an english patch, dont know if it is complete cause im playing it in japanese, David you should do a video of this topic if you dont already have one.

I'm glad to hear this game is great, I love the SaGa series. I'm just not sure what I'm gonna get into next, currently wrapping up Visions of Mana which is turning out to be a really good Mana game, I'm not sure if I want to jump into Metaphor ReFantazio or wait til my copies of RS2 and Ys X arrive. October May end up being a month for the ages as far as RPGs are concerned.

Totally downloading right now. Played the demo and really enjoyed it. I feel like right now is like a great time to be classic RPG connoisseur. This year especially Has been like a feast after a looong famine! And I absolutely love it. I think the next big thing I am excited for is Expedition 33
Got the physical on ps5 coming on Saturday, can't wait! Need something abit lighter as I've just slogged through the truly unnerving silent hill 2 remake. Great game though!
Just completed it. Nobody does JRPGs like SquareEnix. The QOL they add with each new ISP or remake is just great. For example, there is only fast travel and it's useable from anywhere almost all of the time, except for special story bits of course. The enemy weakness system appears lifted straight from their Octopath Traveller, and works great. It makes you think about combat.
Enemies scale in difficulty based on the number of encounters, so endless grinding is pointless and can even be counter-productive, I've heard. That said, I still just downed every mob that got in my way, and it was never too bad. If you play all the weaknesses right (maximises TP for the encounter), you become pretty OP anyway.
If you enjoy JRPGs like I do, you'll love this.
Can't wait to play this, got my copy in its way. Just need to wrap up Visions of Mana first

On Switch i finished the Demo and immediately bought this $50 game! i usually WAIT and buy on a sale. This game made me want to play it right now so i bought and am playing a new character. Great game!

This is gonna be my first SaGa game! So excited. It was a rare preorder for me. I dont normally love newer looking games but it seems to hit a sweet spot and middle ground of tons of different things I like.

November was ys x month , but one month back i played the demo of RS 2 and i was totaly hooked. The game has a fantastic atmosphere its like i play dragon quest with a crpg from the early 90 s and an early FF toping .
Plays realy well on the switch with some vram issues when loading skins .
10 hours in in two days and the game is utterly stunning !!
Square keeps on landing one good aa remake every year !
I own the RS2 remaster (along with another 3 three SaGa games), and it's been a pleasant surprise to know so many people saying positive things about this remake. It's also nice to see the studio that did the ToM remake improve so much with this game. You can tell they've had their hands all over this remake. Overall, Square has done it again in cooking up a great remake.

GOing to pick this up at my local bestbuy today for Switch, was the last physical Copy I could find in the area without driving 50+ miles.

So I have three more games i want to get but only can afford two of them for now. The new Dragon Age, YS X, and this one. In your opinion which 2 should i get and save for later!? I dont know if you played the new Dragon age yet but it does look amazing! Love your videos and we are JRPG heaven right now its a bit overwhelming!

For my Switch, I imported physical copies of Romancing SaGa II and IIi. It’s kind of similar to having Collection of Mana, which has Secret of Mana and Trials of Mana in the old 16-Bit glory, and I own Secret of Mana for PS4 and Trials of Mana for Switch. So, I’ll be getting Romancing SaGa II Remake. Oh, it’s the same thing with my Dragon Quest Remastered Collection (also physical import) and Dragon Quest III Remake and Dragon Quest I+II Remake when they are released.
Side note, I am so excited to also be getting Suikoden I+II Remaster and Lunar I+II Remaster for my Switch. With my Pixel Remaster of Final Fantasy, Sea of Stars, Chrono Cross, and Chained Echoes (all physical copies), it’s a GREAT time to be a JRPG fan!!!!

I know what a big fan of the series you are, and I can guarantee you're going to love this! It's as if SaGa was a FF game, it's super mainstream now!
Not having to conserve magic definitely is a good thing for me! I love my flashy techniques in games but am always worried about wasting them before a difficult boss. I know my playthroughs of Frontier always end with me only using 0 JP/WP moves along the way since Sanctuary Stones were such a rare commodity.
This one's on my list, though dunno when I'm gonna have time to play it...RPG fans have been eating well this year.

RS2R may have finally unseated Frontier as my favorite SaGa game.
Saga games have always had lots of interesting ideas, but I never could enjoy them all that much cause of their difficulty and how very little is clearly explained
Based on what I've seen from this remake, it looks like it'll be very enjoyable, and I've been looking forward to trying it out; a Day 1 purchase for me

I was harsh on the demo but I’m eating my words now. I can’t put this game down. This feels like a perfect blend or old school and modern styles. This dev team knocked it out of the park.
Hopefully they remake 3 in this engine. This remake should be the template going forward.

Loving how they did with 2 (which I'll admit I was hit and miss with (though preferred over the first game) that it went up to my number one favorite (happy they FINALLY understand that it's that "mystery" that has made SaGa both great AND polarizing! It's good to have it, but giving players ESPECIALLY newbies on the fence a mode or so to make things ABIT easier to understand, NOT easy gameplay, just easier to understand while allowing Vets to still access the SOULD CRUSHING difficulty and give newbies the option to do so as well when they get an understanding of the systems to challenge themselves!
The SaGa series stories have always been what I loved about the series! SaGa 2 had the MOST unique RPG story I have not even SEEN replicated ever really! Usually it's the other way around, Seven Heroes must defeat an Evil Empire and save the world. Instead the Seven HEROES have come back, become Evil and have enslaved the people, and it's up to the Empire to defeat them and bring peace! Hell the Empire only BECOMES an Empire because the lands freed from a Hero are so damaged and in need of aid afterwards that the Empire stays to fix things and the time it takes fosters goodwill that the area chooses to join the Empire willingly! By the end your FINAL Emperor/Empress chooses to END the empire after defeating the Heroes for good and saving the World. Turning it into a commonwealth as the purpose of the Empire is complete at that point! And long term it's better to end the line of chosen by fate! since I believe the whole POINT the story was trying to make is how DANGEROUS that "chosen by fate" thing we love in Fantasy like DQ can be. Better to give each territory BACK their autonomy, BUT still keep the UNITY the Empire brought as to avoid a needless chaotic situation ending the Empire out of the blue would bring about. That is something you see in some Fantasy Stories where the Hero gets the power of a God, but surrenders it to live as a mortal still as the POINT of the power was to save the world, once it's not needed, the Hero WISELY (Gurren Lagann anyone) as look at the Seven as an Example! Even the MOST NOBLE of them Noel was still corrupted even if he cooperates with you, he's even the only Hero Boss who will allow you to Retreat from his battles (as long as you DIDN'T deal with Rocbouguet at any point before him! Did so and he not only FIGHTS YOU ON THE SPOT but won't let you retreat), he still must be beaten, and many of them you discover were ALREADY on their way to becoming PROBLEMS in their lore that does give the Ancients AT LEAST a GOOD enough LEGIT reason to turn on them and seal them away! Not the Cliche "Oh they were scared that they did something needless" but not too much that your still left wondering if the betrayal was a good or BAD idea (as said a Good MANY of the HEROES make you realize they are HEROES in the "Demi-God BIGGER THEN LIFE" way then the "Hero saving the day" way! As Dantarg only attacks you cause he takes your willingness to leave him be if he leaves you and yours be as a CHALLENGE AND Slight since he believes the WEAK have no rights to demand ANYTHING from the strong! Essentially he takes your telling him you'll ignore him as you telling him you have the RIGHT to demand anything and attacks! Proving peace was NEVER an option and then lets not forget about their "Unofficial" addition who is stated to NEVER HAVE BEEN LIKED BY ANYONE IN THE GROUP and at best he only attacked your Empire at the start of the game because he wanted his OWN part of the world to rule and he simply let the OTHER heroes know with his death by Gerald that the Empire was INDEED going to be a problem for them)
Plus I'm sure the Trans community who have played this game are having a field day with Wagnas and his "monster form!" Man had a lover in his Best Friend's little sister, yet his Super Form being Female is interesting, I get the concept that he wanted to make himself "Beautiful" so take that as you will! Reminder he's the LEADER of the Seven Heroes! I know some whine about "Marginlized" groups being made VILLAINS in stories, but I think they should understand that it's bad if their "Being made VILLAINS as a bad Stereotype manner with no substance to them" where in your want them to be "Villains with substance!" A "character" so to speak which is WHY so many Villains in fiction are still fondly remembered, even more so then the Hero of their stories because they were well done and their flaws AVOIDED the stereotypes of what they are! Basically making them a Villain you can SEE happening to ANYONE if they WEREN'T apart of that "Specific Group" like a Homosexual Male NOT being a "you know what" that you discover this FLUIDLY instead of having it forced in your face in a crude fashion. And even the Sylvando from DQ11 is STILL my favorite (along with his PARADE of Smiles LOL) because at FIRST you think the fact he acts the "FABULOUS" way that he's going to be a Stereotype, but no there are layers on him and frankly he is the games representation of the JESTER class from DQ3 without them being useless and annoying! Practically existing how he is! Making EVERYONE ELSE better by doing what everyone else ISN'T doing! Like lacking Healing, he's got you, need an attacker, he's got you, he will never be better then those SPECIALIZED in those fields, but he'll do well enough especially to those NOT good in those fields as a reminder of LIMITED Party Slots in the battle party! So he fits in and adjusts to any formation and is a NUKE if used in the right hands and mindset AKA not those with the "This character is useless and your stupid for using him!" And as I said EVERYTIME he talks or does something, I'm 200% paying more attention since he's gotten a laugh or MANY out of me and alot of good "What the Hell's" like that Parade you come across in Act 2 getting him back. He's Comedy relief while STILL being a character you can take seriously when need be. And lets not forget he's the BIGGEST Boon to your party, providing you, your SHIP which is his, but as he's with you, he's happy to let you use it. FRankly I'm a Straight Man, but I ALWAYS love characters like this Hero, NPC and Villain who are written quite well and not made "this is what their about" cause the goal is to make a CHARACTER, making a Cliche is NOT making a character, they must have substance and be MORE then a stereotype to be a CHARACTER (It's why Steve Cortez from Mass Effect 3 is my BENCH MARK for how to make a "Homosexual character" which is NOT to push his "GAYNESS" in your face! You only find out he's Gay because he's MOURNING HIS DEAD HUSBAND when you meet him, in a situation where LOTS of deaths are happening cause "The Reapers have finally arrived" and while I NEVER pursue the romance with him! I love how the FRIENDSHIP with him is developed, plus I HATE even in Straight romances how they make you FEEL bad for not going for them when they become available! Like Persona 5 is sinful for if you reach the point of the romance with a Girl Social Link that not taking the option makes you FEEL bad sans Futuba who is the ONLY ONE who never catches on that there was even an OPTION for romance if you don't pick it! Not that I ever pick it as I love Joker and her's "Big Brother/Little Sister with Sojiro as the Dad" relationship the game was pushing anyway! The romance just felt forced! But yeah Steve became my favorite GAY character because he was a CHARACTER I got to like, he wasn't a Stereotype, he wasn't FORCED on me, and I got to love him as a character on my OWN rather then this now a days "YOU HAVE TO LIKE THEM OR YOUR A INSERT-PHOBIC HERE!" Like that WORKS anymore! Even Canceling has been shown to ONLY WORK on those they have INFLUENCE on! Anyone they don't have influence with because they stayed away from their stupid clubs and such can only LAUGH at their Adult Tantrums LOL)
What I like also is how they added more LORE to what was in the original. Like more lore on the Ancients and the Heroes themselves. Hell even "a certain Insect Queen" who was a literal "Giant Flea out of Nowhere" ended up upgraded to "the actual threat that constituted the Seven Heroes becoming corrupted in the first place to first defeat!" meaning when you dealt with her that started the expanding quest to make her a superboss, she was in that "oh was defeated and was slowly building herself back up till your dumbass came across her and kicked her again! Too bad for you she decided she'd use YOUR Base of Operations as the starting point of her COMEBACK TOUR" recovering her power that she faced the Seven Heroes FIRST under your nose then vanquish your heir and destroy your Empire as payback for the first defeat of your previous Emperor/Empress before seeking her vengeance on the Heroes themselves) I am going to wait for the first SALE of this game as I still have ALOT of games to go through (I don't buy a game outside sales anymore, Money is tight) and because I reached my limit of games I buy on DAY 1 pricing already with Unicorn Overlord months past! But the fact I will get it on the first SALE which will likely be -10% off means I DO want to show my support! I usually WAIT for a -30 or so % off. But if I buy it on OFF-SALE or a 10% off then that's me giving a FULL support (if I buy it at the 30 or more as I say, it's cause too much time has passed that my support means nothing since they only care about the first month or so of sales, so why pay alot when I can potential pay less! It's not like my buying it that late means anything anymore!)

@@davidvinc I agree, Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven is great to familiarize yourself a bit with the battle system and other game mechanics. Emerald Beyond is more complex and has no difficulty options, ease yourself into the series with this one.
I always liked when Fire Emblem did generational stuff, nice to see it incorporated into the plot for this game. Looks great.
Ironically, the SaGa series hooked me when it was wearing the mask of Final Fantasy with the Final Fantasy Legend series. Here's hoping one day the talented team who made this can be given a crack at remaking Final Fantasy Legend 3, as I always felt it had a lot of untapped potential with its crazy Chrono Trigger-style time travel story.
The FFL series hooked me too, and I still to this day rank those 3 games as some of the best ones in the SaGa series
@@davidvinc Admittedly none of them have aged very well. They would need a full quality of life boost like what this game got. FFL1 is so ridiculous with its random encounters and Heart Points I didn't find it very fun even back then.

Looks cool. I like the top down exploration a lot more than first person perspective, so this is another modern game that it is harder for me to like. I'm playing DQ11 and it's the same idea. I'd rather not spend my time fiddling with the camera.

Are the status effects still useful in this game? That was something I really liked in the 2D remake (and maybe the og version? Not sure). Even boss enemies could be debuffed.
Had mixed feelings about this game once finishing the demo, but I will give it a full go but maybe only when theres a price droop
