Your installation was very good. The real benefit is on homes that very few trees around them, especially maples and pines. I have a few customers with trees all around their home and to be honest they are a mess. The debris sits on them fairly often and my customer has me come over and clean off the tops. The screens unfortunately also are collecting silt and mud from thre roof and it creates areas where the screen is filled in so much water does come over the guard and onto ther sides of the gutter. The quality of the product is very, very good. But it is the conditions of where you install, how you install them, pitch of the roof, all sorts of factors. Installation skill and attention to detail I have found is very, very important in any installation.
@@k6outdoors I think the most important thing is the pitch of the installation. It *must* be at the same pitch as the roof! Otherwise, the gutter guards act like a shelf, and crap builds up.
Got them too. They are GREAT. Biggest issue was cutting them. Having 75 year old hands, my strength wasn't what it use to be. Installed a metal blade for my chop saw and it was easy.
I have to give them an F for winter and an A for summer and fall. Here in St. Paul Minnesota I have a problem with the guards icing over which then causes any melt water to run over their edge rather than down into the gutter. The water then creates an ice rink on my sidewalk. With open gutters for the last 30 years I never had any ice on my sidewalk, but I also had to be up on a ladder twice a year to clean the leaves out. I love the guards for most of the year but they are a pain in the winter. Next time I think I'll go with the helmet design.
Good to hear the feedback a little further north, normally any frozen ice on the gutter guard melts off on a good sunny day for us. Thanks for stopping in and stay warm!
@@k6outdoors LOL! the ice sets in and doesn't budge for weeks. That said it's not worse than when gutters are full of leaves. It's a good product so far after 2 years. I just remove the guards after leaf falling season from the areas that are prone to ice build up.

I installed it under a new `MAN CAVE' shop , with a metal roof. I do recommend using both the 3M strip, and self tapping stainless steel screws. Not the ones that come with the screens.
I have a 2 1/2 story high gutter height on my house, made some "leaf guard" type covers from aluminum with a brake, and they didn't work as well as I wanted. I bought the costco ones about 8 years ago, rented a lift and had them up within one day, and they have worked great since then. I did also put a de-icing cable on a north facing roof edge and gutter, being in Chicago, but the Costco gutter guards didn't cause any issues with letting the cable thaw out that part of the roof for winter drainage.
I have had them own my house for five years...Works great! I have installed them for friends as well. Outstanding and well-priced! Cheaper than Gutter Guard ( $350 for my house, 5 hours install...Gutter Guard would have been over $6K!).
My sister and brother in-law had their roof redone. The roofer had a recommended gutter guard which was very similar to this one in the video. The roofer's price for installation of the gutter guard was $4000. They thanked the roofer for the information and my brother in-law went online to check out gutter guards. He ended up buying the ones from Costco and it took him two days to install the gutter guard sections. He was a little short and wrote the manufacturer a letter and explained his situation and he was able to buy a small section from the company to finish his project.

Need to dig to see how to inhibit that from spreading and filling the mesh.
I put these Costco leaf guards on one of my gutters about 3 years ago. I totally agree that the quality is exceptional and they go on pretty easy. Just a couple of points. Make sure you clean that top edge of the gutter thoroughly so the adhesive on the leaf guards adheres securely. Also, as he put a few screws in near the downspouts if the need arises to go into the gutter to fix any issues, I, on the ends pieces near the downspouts cut the red covering on the adhesive strip about 4-6 inches and peeled them off. That way those last guards can be easily pried off to get into the gutter if necessary as most of the guard was not adhered with the adhesive strip. I have had absolutely no problems with the guards staying in place and like the man says, almost nothing accumulates on the gutter guards.
Have these on my garage gutters. They work great as a leaf guard but not against coniferous needles. Living in Vancouver or any area with conifers you still have to clean the needles off the TOP of the guard. Needles do not get INTO the gutter itself.
@@k6outdoors Me neither, but this one seems a little worse than some others based on design. The raindrop looks promising, but I don't have any experience with it. I would like to see a gutter guard company come out with dime size holes to be used in non-pine landscapes.

Problem solved with THESE Gutter Guards from Costco! I zipped tied a roof heating cord under the gutter guards and anytime it starts to snow, I turn on the heated cord and that melts the snow on the gutter guard, allowing it to drain through my down spouts (which also have the heater cord in them) and for the last two seasons, we have had very little issues with the melting snow off the roof, turning into ice on the front porch!
I bought these about 2 years ago. I only installed in front of my garage when I discovered my fascia boards were made with pressboard which has rotted away over time. So, I have to pull the gutters down to replace the fascia boards before I can install the rest. So now a squirrel has made his home under the the garage section which has been installed. I do worry about the roof peeling off in a wind storm after a partially putting it between the shingle and the starter strips, that it’s losing some of the adhesion.
I can see why you'd be concerned about shingle adhesion issues. What i can tell you is that while mine have been installed they have experienced 100 mph winds with no affect to the roof. Thanks for stopping in!
@@user-jl5lh9mq2b Take the number off my user name, and that's my Gmail account. I found a second squirrel entrance. It's been a big process of taking down the gutters, replacing the fascia and soffit with LP Smartside soffit boards cut to size, and putting the gutters back up. I've completed the east, west, and most of the north side of the house. I put some of the gutter guards up, but want to wait to finish the north side, as that is a connected gutter for almost 3/4 of the house. While I had the soffits down, I also nailed in the sheathing at the top to help the air sealing of the wall cavity, and spray foamed it. There is one section where squirrels got in before I bought the house, where they could stand on the roof and chew their way in. I coated the trim over the soffit with copper mesh that squirrels don't like to chew through, then painted over it.
@@k6outdoors Good lord!! You got 100 mph winds at your house?! How much damage did you have to your trees? It seems like everytime we get winds over 70 I'll lose a limb or 2
@jeffa847 we got very lucky actually, we just lost a few branches. Most of our trees are deeply rooted in our soil here in Iowa. My inlaws live about 45 minutes from us and had sustained winds of 145mph for over 30 minutes. The unfortunately had hundreds of trees to clean up, many trees were completely uprooted and on their sides! The storm was classified as a derecho, basically an "in-land" hurricane.
These gutter guards work well. However with long valley runs in a downpour will overwhelm the gutter guard, allowing water to flow over the gutter. This can be an issue depending where this water lands.
Would you do a video on options to install in a valley? (I have metal vallies). The seam in that location is an entry point for debris and I can’t figure out a clean look
i could try to get a video put together, I dont have any valleys left to finish unfortunately. There are a few other videos on youtube that might be helpful. Thanks for stopping in.
They certainly can, much like any gutter guard. I havent had much for issues and if i have its been a result of a bad ice storm and it shortly melts away
The gutters on our 150 year old farm house are hung by straps that are screwed to the metal roof, rather than screws that go into the rafter ends. Would these be adaptable to this situation? We don't have any trees close to the house, but leaves blow in from the woods, and the downspouts get clogged. IB old, and climbing ladders two stories isn't something I'll do anymore. Can't find a handy person to clean the downspouts... Sigh.
It handles it very well. The only place where any runoff occurs is in the valleys, but that is fixes with some diverts you can install. Thanks for stopping in!
We do get snow and very cold weather, and gutter guard or really gutter for that matter risks freezing over and causing a slippery mess. I don't have much of an issue and if you do have a problematic area you can use heat tape. Hope this helps
Hey there! I have been very pleased with them. Generally, if any snow or ice gets on them, they readily melt off on a sunny day. The instructions specifically states they can cause icecycles and ice dams, but all forms of gutter guard will. I personally recommend them based on my experience and plan to put them on my detached garage in the near future. They work so well during the spring and fall of keeping all of the debris out that any little headache from them freezing over is negligible to me. As I am sure you are aware, ice dams can be a problem but most newer homes (built after the 90's)in iowa have, ice water barrier under the 1st 4ft of the roof and it mitigates any concern of water going back up under the shingles. Hope this helps!
It's fine until the leaves get wet, then they are difficult to get out and it make a huge mess. I'm still a believer on the gutter guards, do it once and forget about it. Thanks for stopping in.
@k6outdoors excellent thanks! I'm looking to install these. They seem to be on sale for 40 bucks a box. Another question though, if you don't mind. Each box contains 36 feet of guard. I assume that's 36 foot of gutter length? So my garage is about 20 x 24... it may only take what 3 boxes to cover all my gutters?
@RompRat42 in theory yes it should cover that much. Corners will make a little bit of a difference, but not much. How many sides of your garage has gutter?
For harsh winter regions like Michigan, I read some reviews about this particular guard creating icing cover over the whole surface and bypass any accumulation to gutter, creating need for heated system on top of this. Only reason I am hesitant about this product
Started installation last summer and part way through the job we got a thunderstorm. The heavy rain flowed over the guards like a waterfall. Stopped my install and ripped out what had been done.
Should those gutter guards be removed prior to replacing shingles? I would hate for them to be damaged in the process. Though, I would also hate to remove and reinstall the guards after the roofing is done!
I would definitely remove them prior to replacing shingles as it sits on top of the shingle starter/ drip edge. I hope this helps, thanks for stopping in!
Do they freeze over in the winter? I have a gutter cover now that during the melt freeze cycle the gutter covers ice over and i worry about moisture migrating up under the shingles/
Unfortunately, I think any type of gutter protection is going to have some ice dam issues in the winter, just due to the nature of how they work. I have seen several people use a heat tape to keep it from freezing and it might be something you consider if you are concerned about the ice issues. Thanks for stopping in!
The sap on pine needles clog the mesh in the valleys. This causes build up and water to overflow. diverters do not work as the needles build up behind it. It just takes maintenance at the valleys. They do sell a brush for cleaning them up without getting on a ladder. Works for a while.
Okay well im going to let it be known for everyone. Dont do this shit bc it will void the warranty on your roof. Also, realistically Leaf filter gutter guard and all thats out there. They claim Maintenance fee and that is not true. Do extensive research because these sales men will take your money. If it sounds too good to be true. It probably is. Stay safe elderly! dont get scammed!
Each side of the piece has a bit of screen sticking out so the aluminum frame almost touches, but the two sides of screen can overlap to close any gap. I just installed about 135 feet of these things. Very easy to install. Easy to customize for getting around corners or ends that need you to shorten one. I used the self tapping screws to fix them down (mine did not come with adhesive), but the screws were very easy to use and they include the magnetic driver bit.
What if we went 21st century and make it so that the gutters will flip with the aid of piano hinges and a encased servo in the gutter powerd by a solar cell...
@@k6outdoors maybe make a net that sticks out from the gutter 5 inches so all you have to do is blow the debree on the lawn. To advoid it sticking to the side of the house.. or program it to flip after the leaves dry.... the possibilities are endless..
I cant say I experience anything like this. I just bought more to install on my garage as I have been extremely happy with the product. Thanks for stopping in
@@k6outdoors It will depend on the environment. Those that have dust which becomes mud with rain, mold, or in my situation live oak pollen which is gritty and becomes like a mud will clog up any micro mesh screens. So they will need to be cleaned to open them up. It will keep the junk out of the gutters, but unfortunately that will include the rain as well. All guards seem to have compromises. The other good one I hear about is Raindrop.
Those are the best gutter covers I’ve seen. Still wouldn’t work for me. In SW Ohio water would shoot across those gutter-guards in sheets. Plus I noticed your house doesn’t have corner dams where the valley empties into the gutter. Corner dams are little pieces of aluminum on the front edge of the gutter so the water doesn’t over-shoot the gutter. Gutter guards are pretty much a no-no around here. You’re more likely to see multiple down spouts. No trees overhanging the house. “ Rain Gutter Cleaning” advertised on TV. The first thing is to divert the water. During a storm if you look out the window and it looks like you’re under a waterfall, you have a problem.
Hey, I appreciate the comment. We do/ can get torrential amounts of rain here in Iowa. The only time I see any sort of run off it is in the valley when it's raining so hard you can't see straight, otherwise the flow the remaining part of the gutter is un obstructed, you can literally spray a garden hose right at it and it passes straight though. 5" and 6" gutter with 3"x4" downspouts are common around here. I definitely could benefit from adding corner dams but haven't had a large enough issue to worry about it. Thanks for stopping in, I appreciate it!
EXACTLY! The pine needles just lay on top and eventually decompose. This creates a fine grit that blocks the screen, so the rain just shoots over. To remedy this, you need to take a scrub brush to the screen, so that means you are up on the ladder. This happens multiple times each year. I'm taking mine off.
In my experience that’s not entirely accurate. My husband put something similar on our gutters not realizing that small leaf litter, bugs, roof grit can clog the drain holes. If not cleaned the ice builds up from the gutter up.
Stay away from leaf filter I know there price is ridiculous and after just having them installed on my moms side that’s too steep to easily blow gutters. They retain leaves worse than gutters after only 7 months. The “ lifetime warranty “ only covers the product. There customer service could care less.
That is incorrect, I have 5 large maple trees that produce a ton of leaves and seedlings that readily fill the gutters. That is the main reason i added the guards to the house in the first place. Otherwise, why would i waste a large amount of my money on them? If you have trees overhanging your house, i would recommend you have them cut back or cut down so they dont damage your home. Thanks for stopping in
What's weird is that they don't sell a real 5.5 or 6 inch product. The 5.5 inch is only 5 inches and the 6 inch is actually 7.2 inches. Have to shove all the excess of the large unit under the shingles if your gutters are wider than 5 in
Lol wait til he sees the pictures i have of that product, after we did a roof jobs. Hydroponic vegetation system inside the gutters. Bwahahaha The mesh isn’t fine at all.

Would love to somehow correspond with you regarding this same exact problem- fascia and squirrels.
You are correct, the do make a diverter to help distribute the water in the valleys, I just haven't had a huge issue with it. Thanks for stopping in!
Would you do a video on options to install in a valley? (I have metal vallies). The seam in that location is an entry point for debris and I can’t figure out a clean look
i could try to get a video put together, I dont have any valleys left to finish unfortunately. There are a few other videos on youtube that might be helpful. Thanks for stopping in.
cool man! thanks
No problem, glad to be of help! Thanks for stopping in!
I wonder about helicopter seeds getting stuck in holes. I know you brought it up but then said leaves. Do the seeds get stuck?
No issues with the helicopter seeds! The protect very well against them and don't clog up the mesh. Thanks for stopping in!
I was hoping that you’d demonstrate how they snap in
That video is in the works, extremely simple process.. stay tuned
How about in the winter.....my problem with these guards is this....do they ice over and create ice dams?
They certainly can, much like any gutter guard. I havent had much for issues and if i have its been a result of a bad ice storm and it shortly melts away
36 feet for around $50 at Costco when it was on sale. Said on sale couple times a year.
new here...nice looking yard

How old is the boom box on top of that cabinet ?
It's right around 20 years old, I got it when I was 13 or 14 I believe!
Sigh.

How does it handle a very heavy rain? runoff?
It handles it very well. The only place where any runoff occurs is in the valleys, but that is fixes with some diverts you can install. Thanks for stopping in!
Thank you for your video presentation. Did you wipe the gutter clean before you installed them so the adhesive would stick better?
I did use a cloth that was damp with alcohol to wipe the edge down prior to the installation. It was easy and effective, thanks for stopping in!
Great info and review, thanks again for taking the time to make this very informative video 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

Extremely well, ive never seen it run over the front of the gutters. Thanks for stopping in!

*do you get snow in the winter, leaf filter customers complaining of problems in winter, water freezing clogging and making a frozen slippery floor*
We do get snow and very cold weather, and gutter guard or really gutter for that matter risks freezing over and causing a slippery mess. I don't have much of an issue and if you do have a problematic area you can use heat tape. Hope this helps
@@k6outdoors Thank You 👍
Kyle. Fellow Iowan here. What's your experience with these in the WINTER been? I've seen reviews saying that they don't do well with snowfall/ice.
@@k6outdoors It does. Thanks Kyle. I'm gonna give em a try. Where abouts in Iowa are you? I'm in Des Moines
@@andyzamboknee i am near Iowa City
How well does it work for valleys
It works well overall, if it's a valley that gets a mass amount of water they sell diverts to help redirect some of the flow. Thanks for stopping in!
@@k6outdoors have diverges, but it just throws the water to the side.
@jammosu6498 yes that is the intent
Use a leaf blower with a pipe extension and two 90 degree elbows. I have a single story and no need to get on my roof.
It's fine until the leaves get wet, then they are difficult to get out and it make a huge mess. I'm still a believer on the gutter guards, do it once and forget about it. Thanks for stopping in.
605 yes dont like how thick the roof lip is. Low roof line i get water blown under shingles
Thanks for stopping in!
Will this install under a concrete tile roof?
Check their website and it'll show you how it all will work! Thanks for stopping in!
Is the water able to get through without problems? Will the grit eventually clog the pores?
I have not had to clean mine off yet, depending on your debris you may have to clean them to maintain flow of water. Thanks for stopping in!
Question, the included self taping screws. Are they also stainless?
I am not sure what they are made out of, but I presume they are not stainless. Thanks for stopping in
@k6outdoors excellent thanks!
@@k6outdoors all 4
@@RompRat42 seems like you might need 4 boxes

I thought the new Costco gutter guards came with a bend already applied?
They have a bend from the factory but depending on your roof some additional adjustments may be required. Thanks for stopping in!
Do they sell a high flow for inside corners?
They do have an addition to help distribute the water for valley areas. Thus far i havent needed it, thanks for stopping in!
What about snow/ice build
It happens but it is nothing that I have experienced to be a problem, thanks for stopping in!
For harsh winter regions like Michigan, I read some reviews about this particular guard creating icing cover over the whole surface and bypass any accumulation to gutter, creating need for heated system on top of this. Only reason I am hesitant about this product
Do you install from left to right or right to left? Looks great
They can be installed eitherway as the overlapping joint is universal. Thanks for stopping in!
Do long thin pine needles get through?
@@ridegriff50 I have no direct experience with that type of tree debris, but I suspect they will NOT pass through the micromesh
With a heavy rain, downpour, does the water wash over the guard? I have a 12" pitch and water runs down fast and in high volume.
I have never had an issue with water volume. Thanks for stopping in

My shingle edge is sealed to prevent hurricane damage. Can these been installed without tucking under the shingles and breaking the seal?
The concept is designed to be tucked under the bottom row of shingles; unfortunate they may not work in your application. Thanks for stopping in!
Wow 😳😳😳👍👍👍👍💥💥💥💪💪
You forgot to mention how you cut them and the tools used. Thanks

Could they be removed during the winter??
What about pine needles?
I cant speak from experience on this one but I believe it will keep them out.

How easy it to cut the gutter guard material for odd gutter sizes?
The material is pretty easily cut with a good pair of metal snips. Thanks for stopping in!

What's the sale price vs the normal price?
Not sure specifics on price but can be $20-$40 off depending on qty and time of year
Wouldn't even a little overlap being better (for strength) just asking.
Thanks for the video
There is a designed in amount of overlap, anything more than that would require further modification of the pieces. Thanks for stopping in
@@k6outdoors thank you for the reply
Each side of the piece has a bit of screen sticking out so the aluminum frame almost touches, but the two sides of screen can overlap to close any gap.
I just installed about 135 feet of these things. Very easy to install. Easy to customize for getting around corners or ends that need you to shorten one.
I used the self tapping screws to fix them down (mine did not come with adhesive), but the screws were very easy to use and they include the magnetic driver bit.
What if we went 21st century and make it so that the gutters will flip with the aid of piano hinges and a encased servo in the gutter powerd by a solar cell...
That would be a neat setup for sure!
@@k6outdoors maybe make a net that sticks out from the gutter 5 inches so all you have to do is blow the debree on the lawn. To advoid it sticking to the side of the house.. or program it to flip after the leaves dry.... the possibilities are endless..
The bad reviews say the mesh clogs and the rain runs over them
I cant say I experience anything like this.
Iowa my home state! Go Hawkeyes! Thanks for sharing this we will look into these for our gutters!
Go hawks! Thanks for stopping in!
Good video but you don't have pine trees. That makes all of the guards useless.
Thanks for stopping in
EXACTLY! The pine needles just lay on top and eventually decompose. This creates a fine grit that blocks the screen, so the rain just shoots over. To remedy this, you need to take a scrub brush to the screen, so that means you are up on the ladder. This happens multiple times each year. I'm taking mine off.
Does it keep out for needles? My gutter guards work pretty well but fir needles and roof aggregate still get through. Thanks!
Yes it should keep them out! Mine keep out bugs and roof aggregate!
Gutter guards don’t cause ice dams. Cold spots in your roof line not properly insulated causes ice dams
Appreciate the feedback, thanks for stopping in
How do you know if you have a cold spot?
In my experience that’s not entirely accurate. My husband put something similar on our gutters not realizing that small leaf litter, bugs, roof grit can clog the drain holes. If not cleaned the ice builds up from the gutter up.
It's really warped. I don't see how it will go on.
Are you referring to product you are trying to install?
Stay away from leaf filter I know there price is ridiculous and after just having them installed on my moms side that’s too steep to easily blow gutters. They retain leaves worse than gutters after only 7 months. The “ lifetime warranty “ only covers the product. There customer service could care less.
Your not the first person I've heard this from, it's unfortunate. Thanks for stopping in!
Sir, your trees do not really present an issue, they are not even overhanging your house, so...
