I got a quote from Leaf Filter and Leaf Guard. No doubt Leaf Guard is a great product but they wanted $14,000 to do my house. Ended up buying a different system online from Menards at about $1.50 a foot and installed it myself. I spent about $140 to do my entire house and had it up in about an hour. Couldn't be happier.
Did you get the curved black plastic stuff that just hook into the gutter? We had ones like that, but our tulip tree droppings were getting wedged in, and when enough stuff was jammed in, then leaves started getting caught, one fall i finally ripped them out because i was tired of cleaning under them
i called Leaf Filter for a free estimate a yr or so ago,,,,the guy came & proceeded to get his ladder & measuring tools , jumped up & got down to business; working, measuring, figuring, up & down the ladder in front,,,,then went to the back & proceeded to do the same thing so i calmly told him,,,"ulm, hey buddy,,,my house is 80 ft long back here same as up front except the front porch makes the 80 ft length divided in 3 sections!" his reply was, "well,,,i have to earn my money!",,,,,so i said,,"ok,,,,just trying to save you some time!" it was about 2 hrs later when he finished & handed me the estimate,,,,,i just looked at him like he was a highway robber & asked, "$7, 450??? ,,,,seriously man,,,where is my quote?" so he said that was what he figured & so i said,,,,well Dude,,,no way i can afford that now or in the future & i started heading for my front door which made him yell that he couldnt afford to drive up here all the way from Memphis for nothing which stopped me in my tracks so i quickly said, 'GO COMPLAIN TO YOUR COMPANY, THEY ARE THE ONES THAT SAID FREE QUOTES!!" pfft!! my first & last conversation with those numnuts!! ha
Sounds like my exact story with Leaf Filter. The guy actually got irritated and mad because I would not commit to it at that exact moment! Said he had driven over an hour to get there.
“Leaf Filter” is a scam company, and I’m here to inform anyone who’s thinking about having them installed. I had them put on my back patio gutter, only, was $3,000. That was a year ago this past March, and the gutter is already clogged. So I called them to have someone sent here to fix that. They said it would cost me $97, because my one year warranty was up. So much for their so called “Lifetime No Clogs Guarantee” 😑
Congratulations on saving youself from these shysters. Good for you! There is no alternative to keeping your gutters & downspouts from overflowing than to have to actually getting up on your roof every year and physically cleaning your gutters. If you do that, your gutters will always work and you won't have any problems. Also, half the time the reason gutters overflow is because the DOWNSOUTS are blocked up. So, you have to make sure those are running every year also. There is no other alternative.
They came out to quote a small section of our house that was on the second floor so we couldn’t clean them. It was about 15 feet total. They quoted $2450. I jumped up from my chair and said “well I’m sorry we wasted your time”. The salesman didn’t stand and said “well what were you thinking.” I said “we had a quote from another company for $540.” He called his manager (of course) and got him to approve $580. So that tells you the markup. They were still making a profit at $580 but wanted to charge $2450.
Years ago my company did leaf filter jobs. We would do the mesh filter as well as gutter replacement. One day we show up at a trailer park to one of their jobs and find out that the company had charged this trailer owner $10,000 for new 6in gutter and mesh filter. There were three runs of gutter total on the customers trailer, maybe 120ft total. For my company to come in today and do that much gutter and install a leaf filter that is aluminum and a product that actually works would be somewhere sub $2000. Leaf filter is not only a scam but criminal
My house came with Gutter Helmet. Not only do they freeze then melt and drip onto the driveway and deck and then refreeze, they also create a buildup of ice back onto the roof. I dread the next time we replace our roof and have no doubts we will be spending extra to replace the rotted wood from all of that water damage. I agree with those saying just pay someone to clean the gutters out once or twice a year and you’ll save a ton of $ in the end.
They don't care about their customers. They want to adjust our gutters to fix their product defect. I say no way to lowering our gutters. Had to go thru BBB and their Investigator + Dispute Resolution Consultant with BBB, gives LeafFilter a "good faith effort", deems us dissatisfied with LeafFilter response and then closes the claim. Just unf@# real.....
LEAFFILTER IS PURE GARBAGE!! VERY EXPENSIVE RIP OFF. DO NOT BE MISLED. THESE THINGS RESOLVE 0000 NOTHING. THEY JUST CAUSE MORE, ALBEIT DIFFERENT PROBLEMS. BUYER BEWARE!!!
Got the same price gouging quote as others have said here. Started at approx. $11,500 and ended up at around $4800. Very old high pressure sales tactic and yes they almost demand that both decision making adults be there. The salesman used the old “let me call my boss for a better price” thing like used car salesmen. Just told them I wanted a quote and would not buy tonight, salesman left and never called back. Not a very professional sale approach in my opinion, buyer be ware, look around before you commit.
I wish I would have done a lot more research. I would have never installed these guards on our gutters. We had a very small amount of rain and it came straight over the top of the guards. Customer service is no help they absolutely do not care about their customers. We are fighting this the best we can but they only send a service tech out once a month. My first clue should have been when I asked if they have their own installers he said yes they do so not to worry they won't hire anybody out of Madres. The more I thought about that was how he just discriminated and how non-transparent he is. From the installation to them being up there to the customer service it's all a scam. It makes me so sick that we fell for this.
This is what I just can’t comprehend. If you’re so stupid to install a product that costs 2-3x more than the gutters they’re going on to and a fraction of the cost to just have them cleaned professionally you kind of get what you deserve. Don’t know if it’s pride or i capability to math, but it’s just stupid.
@@jeremys959 I get that, but it costs “something” your time is worth something. Whether your time is worth more or less than what you’re willing to pay someone to do it is up to you - we all have that cutoff - it’s not a stab at anyone, it just depends on a lot of different factors - how much you mind doing it, how long it takes you, safety considerations and the confidence you can do it safely.
I used to work for leaf filter and what they do , is that leaf filter charge the installer for those problems, for example if i install those and there is a problem they charge me for that problem, and the point is the pay me a dollar por feet, but when there is a problem they charge more money to the installer and after that you say i quit
I used to install for them as well. They are trying to charge me for a home I installed on 3 years ago. The plastic vinyl is all cracked up due to the constant winds and cold air of Kansas.
@@AllenAndMarie so in your opinion, being someone who installed them, are these gutters even worth the hefty price tag? I’m in California and don’t get snow at all. Just hail and that’s only 1-2x a year.
I’m a seamless gutter installer in MD and most of our work is renovation. I can’t tell you how many houses we have ripped this stuff off of, because the homeowners are that unhappy with it!
@@madestmadhatter it’s not just the freezing. It’s micro mesh. While it does keep leaves out, the mesh collects everything else. Pollen, shingle grit, dirt, etc… the pollen is esp bad because it sticks to the mesh and blocks the water from entering the gutter completely! The company is run by a bunch of crooks. Their prices are insane. If you have them install, it’s the last you will hear from them. Any tentative issues in the future, they won’t answer your call.
It's totally crap just like someone using corrugated pipe for under ground drainage. Debris will get stuff and clogged in the pipe. Only use 4inch pvc thin wall for drainage unless under concrete driveway use sch40.Because of pressure
I had Leaf Filter put on my gutters 10 years ago and the only issue I have is once a year I have to clean about 4' of mesh that plugs with pine pollen. 5 mins with a brass brush and I'm good till next year, never had an issue with snow or ice. If your gutters are old crap in the 1st place they need to be replaced prior to installing Leaf Filter. Everyone stay safe.
I'm about to have them installed on my home. According to the sales guy I spoke with, if they EVER clog, you get all your money back. I was told I won't even have to clean them. You may want to let them know next time.
@@johncalebsnyder The gutters will never clog but the screens can get coated in pollen and all the debris that comes off trees. They aren't perfect but they work well for most people. I have several tall pines that border the house and the screens get coated... clogged in a couple areas where the roof has high runoff and concentrates the pollen... not clogged, but also not working. They aren't zero maintenance but they work well for many situations. Take everything with a grain of salt Mr. Snyder, especially when it's coming from the person trying to sell them to you.
Definitely one of those depends on the person and house and climate deals, currently having some installed at my house because I’m not cleaning gutters( can’t climb a ladder due to injuries from a wreck) and my 70yr old grandmother sure as hell ain’t! But, we our house was built back in the 70s, we only have gutters on certain sides of the house and we mostly get rain and maybe some tornadoes lol ice maybeeee but it doesn’t stay long 🤷🏻♀️ so it was the best option for us and only $3,000 Compared to 3-4 other companies to just replace all the gutters without a system like this that was putting us in the $6-7,000 range
I have this in So Cal. Take note, the advertising says “clean, seal and realign” but the contract only says “install”. Make sure the contract states what you want it to state.
I installed Leaf filter for the majority of this last summer.... Honestly, it's expensive AF, and depending on what kind of trees you have, it's not a game changer..... Much cheaper to hire someone to clean the gutters twice a year
I have Leaf Filter but never experienced this problem. My original gutters were removed completely and larger gutters with a different mesh system than shown in this video were installed. Expensive, but I haven’t had any problems and I don’t have to clean them out. At 65, that’s a big plus.
Wish I had seen this report before I began dealing with this company. A year after your investigation and they haven't changed. I've been fighting with them since the install last spring and the job still hasn't been fixed. Dreading winter after seeing this.
I just had it installed and I was specifically shown pictures of ice damming by the rep as a reason why to choose leaf filter. They told me having these installed will help PREVENT this, not cause it. Now I’m definitely nervous about this upcoming winter.
oaf Filter is total scam. They take advantage of the elderly by Bait and Switch tactics. My parents ordered the Leaf Filter system and they installed a regulars gutter hoping no one would notice They then refused to fix the situation blaming my parents for their company scamming them. Don;t do business with scammers!!
I had a different type that I bought at Costco and had the same problem with ice damming but one day when the ice damming occurred there was snow on the roof, it warmed up and started to rain sending water down along 43 ft of walls on one side of the house. I had to have someone come in to repair the damage on the sheetrock. I ripped out the leaf guard, returned it to Costco, and I will just pay someone to clean my gutters every year.
Water in the basement over here as well. Next year I am thinking about securing black tarp just over part of the roof and all of the gutters to help prevent ice damns and water in the basement
@Serie Johnson after I had the problem because of the gutter guard, my roofer installed a snow shield on the roof to attempt to prevent that from happening again. It goes under the roof tiles. But I'll just continue paying a company to clean my gutters.
@@brianbassettnumber1 A french drain is designed to direct water away from an area and is usually installed in a basement and on driveways. It doesn't replace the function of a roof gutter which prevents water from ponding against the house and sheeting down the roof over doorways and windows. A french drain could divert water away from a house but would not prevent some ponding. Many communities including the village where I live require the leaders to empty into a dry well so water is returned to the ground where it is needed instead of running down the lawn or driveway into the street and into the sewage system which costs the village a lot of money.
My mom paid $6000 for these. Seems like she got absolutely rooked. What a shame this world we live in where companies take advantage of you whenever they can. It makes me not trust anyone. How can I not have trust issues when I never get anything good from other people?
It seems that ice issue would happen just the same if the gutter were clogged with debris. Ice will form naturally in that fashion even without a clog. Leaf filter should be offering that heat tape service as an option but not all climates would require that option. Some climates I can see algae and mold being an issue. So … you definitely mitigate the larger debris and in some cases even vermin and pests clogging your gutters.. As far as maintenance free .. i would say to have that expectation would be idealistic.. However, an angled brush that telescopes should be included to scrub the filters from the ground with some algicide. Seems a lot easier to do than getting up on a ladder. Leaf fitter needs to fully educate their customers as to the maintenance requirements for each environment. I am so curious to see if the new filter mesh solved the problem… As for the pollen the angled brush from the ground should also take care of that…still for me no ladder is s plus
LeafFilter is an unethical company, they do damage more than good. It has damaged my roof edge and caused the fascia board rotten. When I made complains about it, the installation manager said to me :" We don't care about your roof and drip edge, we don't know about the roof thing. Our job is to install gutter protection. "
I have been blowing off roofs for over 28 years. I would never recommend a guttet guard The concept is a good idea but you will have more trouble than it's worth. The guards will get caught up with leaves on top of guard and the rain will pour over your gutters. So therefore the gutters are obsolete . Also you should never pay over 3 dollars a feet .
@@questioneverything3332 that is indeed their #1 goal - take the money and run. Charge an astronomical price, then discount it 30% to make it look like they are on your side, giving you such a good deal. Even at their $30/foot discounted price you are paying way too much. Pro tip - say no to each drop, then the price magically goes to "cost" at $13/ft. Super pro tip: don't buy LF at all. there are better products for less money
Last summer we got new roof and gutters and leaf filter. Worked great until snow and ice build up on the north and west side of the house. At one point during the winter had a 2” dam build up. Do you think I could get leaf filter out to put eyes on it? No way, no how! They said they would come out in spring and make observations and adjustments in fit up. Haven’t seen or heard from them. Am I going to call them!? No, the balls in their court, while word of mouth advertising is in mine. Buyer beware! In the meantime I figure out my own fix!
Even with Leaf Filter installed you still have to climb a ladder to clean the gutters. This is a deceptive commercial. The ad shows leaves being blown off the roof on a dry day. What it doesn’t show is the leaves and pine needles building up and sticking on the gutters on a rainy day. There is no difference between the old gutters and Leaf Filter.
Glad I found these reviews, I was just going to call for estimate. So what is everyone’s advice. I’m in my 70s and the gutters of my 18yr old home are all leaking. Should I have them all replaced? Can they just be fixed? I have no idea and I’m at the point of not being able to trust anyone I don’t know. It’s so frustrating and being a women is harder because they play you for a fool. Thanks for any suggestions. 😊
Oh my, just read your post. First off try a gutter cleaning service most of these companies will reattach loose gutters. If they can't I assume they would tell you they need additional attention.
Regardless of what leaf guard does to their filters, in winter this is a cold zone outside of the attic’s blanket of insulation. Only heated wire installed in a zig-zag configuration plugged into an GFCI outlet that used a sensor inside the gutters down pipe will sense 32 degrees and turn on heat over gutters. There is actually no other way to achieve this loss of ice dams in winter. Many houses have outlets under the roof on the soffit correctly wired to handle the 20 - 30 Amps these heated wires require. They clip to gutters and up to shingles. Open gutters or protected gutters are still subject to outside of the thermal blanket of insulation in the attic and will freeze. Do not use nail & tubes to hold gutters up as the weight of water is 8 pounds per gallon, it adds up fast with 400 - 700 pounds of weight in or on top of your gutters in every 20 feet of length. This heated wire system can be ordered by length and installed by a professional or homeowner who has a good ladder and comfortable with heights!
@@cldemaine not necessarily in this particular situation. Five different companies could charge five different prices for literally the exact same materials and installation. If a company that charged $3500 did exactly the same install with the exact same materials, nobody was hurt, and nothing was damaged, then the $3500 deal would be significantly and obviously better than a $6000 deal. I worked for a tree service and we underbid lots of jobs because we knew we would get them . however there were multiple other companies that charged literally more than a thousand dollars more per job than we did. a tree down is a tree down at the end of the day as long as nobody is hurt and no property is damaged. some people get screwed over in price because they don’t know any better.
We had the Leaf Guard filters installed a couple of years ago. And YES, they DO plug up when there's a freezing rain, and the freezing rain spills over the gutters onto our sidewalk. It's DANGEROUS! But maybe the heat tape, inside at least the at-risk areas above walkways and driveways, might be the solution. We haven't tried it - I don't want my 84-year-old husband trying to do this. And yes, they are expensive. We were enticed by the salesman stating that if we signed up immediately (before we had time to investigate further) there was a 60% discount. DON'T LET ANYONE TALK YOU INTO BUYING ANYTHING THAT THE SELLER CLAIMS YOU WILL PAY $$$ MORE FOR IF YOU TAKE TIME TO THINK ABOUT IT!!!
Sharon====if you don't know how much they charge they can hike the price above that then they tell you they will give you a discount so you really don't get a discount
Don't get it, I had it installed in Feb of 22, it has already been removed. We got one minor snow fall 2 weeks after install. The mesh froze solid and all the water ran off and froze on the ground.....if your in cold climate it doesn't work. 5000 down the tubes, also shoukd be noted they never took the gutters off and realign them which was part of the sales pitch. Remove, reallign, reseal.....the filter comes in 4 foot sections right out of the box and they were supposed to use hidden hangers only. I had a section around a large front porch with the old strap hangers every 3 foot, they cut the filters to fit between the straps. I have photos. Note your warrenty, some of the verbiage is very problematic.
This a total ripoff. They should be ran out of business. After one hard rain, gutters started separating from the roof. Buyers beware, go to lowe's or home depot, or hire a private contractor, you will say time and money and they will come and fix whatever is wrong. Leaf Filter has lying sales representative an does shabby. I will make it my business to inform as many people as I can that they should not waste their time or money
They wouldn't stay in business for one minute if there weren't enough STUPID people to waste money in this trash! They rely on SUCKERS SUCKERS SUCKERS !!!!
Years ago, I had them come out to do an estimate. Their cost is easily at least 3X the one I ended with which is a generic brand recommended by a home builder friend of ours.... No regrets...
Having a few DIY skills is worth its weight in gold these days. The ice problem described in this video seems like it would happen in the old or new gutters. Their prices are insane but I'm not convinced they are to blame.
Bought gutter guards from Lowes installed myself and have had them for decades ( once in a great while may have to replace one, I bought extra ) but do not have to clean gutters and have NO issues with them . I think I paid around $25-$30 bucks for a box of about 30 pieces, I think they now are nearly $4 dollars a piece ( sold separately ) , but far cheaper than a quote from "leaf filter " of over $3-$4 THOUSAND Dollars for almost the exact same product and design....On a rather small home I might add. And we see everyday how shoddy they are and how inept the folks who install them truly are !! plus let me add I have NO issues with ice buildup or ice damage Amerimax Snap-In Gutter Filter PVC K style ( plastic ) so you know what they are.
Leaf Filter is just one of many gutter guard companies who actually think their products are the absolute best. The idea is nice but the stainless steel mesh is to small of a hole pattern . If you get a general rain they work nice, but if you get heavy thunderstorms the water cannot penetrate the mesh fast enough and will wash over the edge. As far as cold freeze area's the mesh is going to freeze the water on the very top and water will freeze solid and build up. The other problem is the cost (outer limits)$$$$. Way overpriced. And the installer is the one getting hosed. If their product had a raised lip on the front edge it would most likely hold some of the water back from rolling over. There are alternative products with better performance. I have 50 years on the roof as an installer and have seen every one.
@Killer Miser not all mesh guards have holes that small. That's leaf filters problem. They have larger screen available now . Still don't work as they should. Anything laying as flat as they install will just create a shelf anyways. Plus being plastic they will never stay flat in the heat.
You and me both man! I was installing for 20 years and saw every kind of guard imaginable! The best ones, I have found, are the cheap 3’-4’ aluminum screens. Not the micromesh. Every guard out there does what it says it does! Keeps leaves out. But they never tell you the cons.
In my case they were the worst high pressure sales with a price that started at $15600 and was reduced to $6700. DON'T BE FOOLED THEY ARE THE WORST 🤮🤮🤮🤮
I paid over $5000 and soon as big wind came they were hanging off gutters. I’ve had to call them numerous times and they want to charge us $95 to come out. I’m in late 70’s so had roofer get up on roof take pictures. Many places are not constructed correctly. I would not recommend them
I used to work for them . They completely rip costumers off. Ive done jobs where they have charged 20k . On average there charging 8k to 12k .. they also under pay there installers. The installers are responsible to have insurance to cover anything that happens during install were also responsible to collect the checks and do all the paper work n were responsible to go back for any job issues after installed . Id do a 10k job n make 300 bucks . After gas , taxes , insurance, wear n tear on my truck im making nothing but responsible for everything. Please do not buy there product . Its over priced by thousands of dollars
My neighbour installed leaf filters. It was ridiculously pricey. $5000 just for the main floor, does not include 2nd level. They are pricing themselves out. I would never install it or recommend it to anyone.
I am yet to see leaf filter / gutter guard that actually works. All of them has some issue. I live in single story house with low pitched roof. So, I chose to just clean my gutter often with leaf blower.
Elderly folks, it would be cheaper to hire some college kids to come clean your gutters once a year after fall and just before freezing temps. So at $200 per clean once a year would be 5k over 25 yrs. No interest no issues, no problem.
Have them, sadly. Any hope of getting my money back? Or any recourse legally? Or do I just have to pay someone to come and take them off as I don't have a ladder that will reach up to the second-story roof?
READ THE WARRANTY CLOSELY. None of these cover product warranties say a word about water overshooting the gutter or gunk messing up the face of the gutter.
This guy strikes me as someone who always complains, ice sickles form from gutters all the time if they are clogged so its going to happen now that the guards are gone and he will be back to square one cleaning the gutters by hand
if there is ice forming in your gutter or on those guards, water dripping and freezing on the ground is not your only problem. It’s not even your biggest problem.. ice will build up as the roof goes through freeze/thaw cycles and then ice will build up under the shingles. This is a big problem if you do not have that first row from the gutters of your roof covered with a in a row of tarpaper called ice guard.. I had the gutters on my house one year build up ice because we were having a weather cycle that we had the fall/freeze/thaw/freeze night after night and the Ice built up in the gutters going under the shingles and it ruined the walls and two of our bedrooms
yup. Ice dams can lead to real damage. I have heard of Leaf Filter blaming the roof pitch or quality and walking away. Up in Canada, they quoted me $17k for a 4000 sq ft house. I did the math on hiring a company for $300 per season to clean my gutters. Guess what I chose to do.
It would be better and cheaper to have your gutters cleaned and inspected once a year that to install what amounts to being a snake oil product, I'm surprised they don't claim that cures certain kinds of cancer.
The guys who power wash my house every summer also clean out my gutters. It really isn’t that expensive, especially compared to Leaf Filter or Gutter Guard. I’d urge folks to just do that.
These covers just create a clog in a different place when the fine debris seals them shut. Now you have a worse problem because its way easier to just clean the gutters twice a year. Without them. Just use the money these would cost to pay to have your gutters cleaned out about twice a year .I think this house has inadequate attic insulation which causes snow to melt from the heat. Think ice dam..
Years ago, my father insisted that I install plastic screens on his gutters so I didn't have to clean them, when cleaning them was really no big deal. Two years later, I had to rip them out. The gutters were full of dirt, moss, and even grass was growing in them under the screens. 😠
as a gutter cleaner in the winter, I see nothing but problems with any covers. They attract bees, hornets, rats, snake, frogs, birds and more. When customer calls us that have leaf guard or any that is screw in I normally pass on the job unless they want to pay 10x amount for my time to remove and install. No matter what you still need to clean them yearly, you will still get dust moister inside the gutter that will collect over time and turn into mud that will clog your downspouts.
I was working with that idea of installing gutter screens , but all these reviews , i decided to not do it and save money. I also live in Colorado , i survived without them for 13 years .
I feel for their concerns however every house drips ice like that with or without gutters... Like that happens every year regardless if he has gutter guard...😅
It’s the biggest scam going, I still have leafs and shit in my gutters, I have had them back 3 times and still have crap in my gutters, save your money
Dripping water onto a driveway is the least of the concern. The main issue is water working its way back up underneath the shingles and causing water damage to the interior of the home. These things are just not worth it. You are better off just paying a handyman $150 once a year to do a regular gutter cleaning.
All of the negative comments here I 100% guarantee are from people who didn’t do routine maintenance of their gutters before getting leaf filter or after getting it. You are a negligent home owner only wanting to place the blame on someone else. Hold yourself accountable. I got these 2 years ago and never had an issue. I clean by hand, hose, and dump warm water when warmer weather follows a series of days that brought snow/ice to prevent ice damns. All You haters need to grow up.
If you were the type to do routine maintenance you would just clean the gutters twice a year! You actually have to clean the gutter guards a lot more than just cleaning the gutters! Duh!
I live in Canada and yes they are not worth having ,they cause ice dams which will damage the edge of the shingles and could lead to water and then ice backing up under the shingles and that can cause water to run into walls
I used to work for them as subcontractor and sometimes the customers give me the checks and for just 30ft of leaf guards they charge ,1,900 dll is ridiculously a lot of money I feel so bad when I get the check because they are disability people
I just started working for them as a Contractors and ive seen some crazy Checks from Costumers whats catching my attention is most of the clients are elderly people.
Interesting experience on getting an estimate, high pressure sales today only price now! He went from 6,400 down to 3,900. He got upset 😡 that I would not comment. He must have lost his way of the meaning of an estimate! In my opinion it is overpriced! Just thought I would share my experience with "Leaffilter"
It's a marketing company that uses a cheap plastic leaf guard to round the circle. I got a quote, and it was hard to not laugh. They quote some outlandish number and then oofer to do all for half that number if you will sign up immediately. There are some gutter guards out thewrr built like a tank - but you have to search - and they cost about the same.
News flash..... even with out leaf filter the gutters will fill up with snow and ice and melt during the day and freeze at night, simple logic should make that clear.
Thinking about gutter filter well think again. They quoted a price of $15000 then $10500 and finally $6750 to install filter guards. Read all the BAD EXPERIENCES don't be taken by this dishonest company
We spent almost $10,000 on about 300 feet of Leaf Filter system around the house, porch, carport and patio. Then Hurricane Zeta hit us, damaging about 75 feet of gutters. I called Leaf Filters and they sent out a repairman the next day who repaired the damaged areas for a service charge of $105 and $84 in replacement screens.
I'm a senior citizen and they didn't address my problem. My gutter is not aligned properly. Part of the fascia is hanging below the gutter. I've called customer service and upper management and they have completely and ignored the problem this is a prime example of taking advantage of a senior citizen. The installed them August and it's November 30th. Leaf Filter will take your money and leave you in the gutter.
During winter ice will build up on Stairs, Sidewalks, and Driveways. And a lot of ice will build up after rain storms. Solution to this problem is to put salt on Stairs, Sidewalks, and Driveways.
You have to do it yourself now days. Everyone wants to much money for what they do.
There IS doubt that Leaf Guard is a "great product". It's a joke at the prices they charge!
Did you get the curved black plastic stuff that just hook into the gutter? We had ones like that, but our tulip tree droppings were getting wedged in, and when enough stuff was jammed in, then leaves started getting caught, one fall i finally ripped them out because i was tired of cleaning under them
@@Sausketo Armor Lock Gutter guards. They are metal and work amazing and inexpensive.
Do you live in a cold climate? If so, did you experience any ice dams with the product you used.
Greatful they did this story, they just saved me from wasting what little money I have
i called Leaf Filter for a free estimate a yr or so ago,,,,the guy came & proceeded to get his ladder & measuring tools , jumped up & got down to business; working, measuring, figuring, up & down the ladder in front,,,,then went to the back & proceeded to do the same thing so i calmly told him,,,"ulm, hey buddy,,,my house is 80 ft long back here same as up front except the front porch makes the 80 ft length divided in 3 sections!" his reply was, "well,,,i have to earn my money!",,,,,so i said,,"ok,,,,just trying to save you some time!" it was about 2 hrs later when he finished & handed me the estimate,,,,,i just looked at him like he was a highway robber & asked, "$7, 450??? ,,,,seriously man,,,where is my quote?" so he said that was what he figured & so i said,,,,well Dude,,,no way i can afford that now or in the future & i started heading for my front door which made him yell that he couldnt afford to drive up here all the way from Memphis for nothing which stopped me in my tracks so i quickly said, 'GO COMPLAIN TO YOUR COMPANY, THEY ARE THE ONES THAT SAID FREE QUOTES!!" pfft!! my first & last conversation with those numnuts!! ha
Sounds like my exact story with Leaf Filter. The guy actually got irritated and mad because I would not commit to it at that exact moment! Said he had driven over an hour to get there.
Why so many commas?
@@markmolinari777I put foam pool noodles in my gutters. Keeps 60% of the leaves out
They came out to quote a small section of our house that was on the second floor so we couldn’t clean them.
I wish I could hire you out here on the east coast
Glad I saw this. Was going to have it done but not now.
I love how the thumbnail says 'homes will be damaged or destroyed' which is actually 100% correct
Funny how they would not respond to this guy complaints until the news media got involved. Shows you that they really don't care about customers.

HILARIOUS! The video is about "investigating" Leaf Filter company and the lead-in pop up ad is for the same company! 🤣🤣🤣
Got the same price gouging quote as others have said
here.
Was that LeafGuard, or LeafFilter?
It was Leaffilter
Oh yes the old "your wife must also be home" stipulation. That's a deal breaker for me!
Per the Ferengi rules of acquisition, "Once you have their money you never give it back."
Saved me a huge headache. Thank you
At those prices I’ll have my gutters cleaned twice a year for $150
This is what I just can’t comprehend. If you’re so stupid to install a product that costs 2-3x more than the gutters they’re going on to and a fraction of the cost to just have them cleaned professionally you kind of get what you deserve. Don’t know if it’s pride or i capability to math, but it’s just stupid.

Come on look when it rains hard and the water jumps the filter
@@johncalebsnyder The gutters will never clog but the screens can get coated in pollen and all the debris that comes off trees. They aren't perfect but they work well for most people.

They know the shit doesn't work but they happily sell it at insane prices anyway. People should sue their asses.
I just had it installed and I was specifically shown pictures of ice damming by the rep as a reason why to choose leaf filter. They told me having these installed will help PREVENT this, not cause it. Now I’m definitely nervous about this upcoming winter.
Do you live in Michigan? I own a gutter company I can rip that shit off there for you
oaf Filter is total scam. They take advantage of the elderly by Bait and Switch tactics. My parents ordered the Leaf Filter system and they installed a regulars gutter hoping no one would notice They then refused to fix the situation blaming my parents for their company scamming them. Don;t do business with scammers!!
I'm in the same boat. They lied to us repeatedly and our garage is at the top of a big hill. May not make it out this winter. Darn those scammers!!
Well... sucks to be you.
Water in the basement over here as well. Next year I am thinking about securing black tarp just over part of the roof and all of the gutters to help prevent ice damns and water in the basement
@@seriejohnson698 Why not remove the gutter completely and install a french drain?

I am so curious to see if the new filter mesh solved the problem…
As for the pollen the angled brush from the ground should also take care of that…still for me no ladder is s plus
LeafFilter is an unethical company, they do damage more than good. It has damaged my roof edge and caused the fascia board rotten. Even with Leaf Filter installed you still have to climb a ladder to clean the gutters.
This is a deceptive commercial.

LEAF GARD IS THE SAME! OH THEIR GREAT AS LONG AS IT NEVER RAINS OF EVER GETS COLD OUTSIDE!
And we see everyday how shoddy they are and how inept the folks who install them truly are !!
plus let me add I have NO issues with ice buildup or ice damage
Amerimax Snap-In Gutter Filter PVC K style ( plastic ) so you know what they are.

Good advice, but best to use a reputable company that's insured to prevent liability issues. Bees could attack or a fall could occur.

STAY AWAY from leaf filter please they are a horrible company.

What's the update?
A tighter mesh will cause the water to cascade over not flow thru into the gutter!!!
ice would build IN the gutter but when it melt it's IN the gutter and then goes down with the wate water, whats not to understand
People. Just pay someone a couple hundred bucks a year to clean your gutters. You can avoid all of this.
Leaf filter advertised the exact same ad at the beginning of this video for me, lol.
I think the gutter will look very dirty on the face that you can see since water and debris will be sliding on that face. won't do any type of filter
So, without the gutter guard ice wouldnt fall on the walk way?
I feel for their concerns however every house drips ice like that with or without gutters... Like that happens every year regardless if he has gutter guard...😅
That's what I said in winter time that's going to freeze over as going to Backwater up underneath the roof shingles
*3 years now, any updates !?*
Duh!
It’s a joke. The water jumps the gutters when it rains hard. And they also clog up. Do not buy any type of gutter protector
So what's the difference of snow buildup without leaf filter? Wouldn't it still build up?
No.
I live in Canada and yes they are not worth having ,they cause ice dams which will damage the edge of the shingles and could lead to water and then ice backing up under the shingles and that can cause water to run into walls
Where's the update?
The prices for these is unbelievably ridiculous.
Wouldn't there be ice on the ground anyway. I don't get this complaint
ice would build IN the gutter but when it melt it's IN the gutter and then goes down with the wate water, whats not to understand
Not always the case. Our gutters fill with heavy snow and it ices over and spilled out the gutter causing icicles.
Gutter guards are a scam.. nothing beats having your gutters open and cleaned
@@ChristianRodriguez-zx5kp that's correct
Just by looking at that micro-mesh you can tell its too small of a hole and will get clogged and causing issue
News flash..... even with out leaf filter the gutters will fill up with snow and ice and melt during the day and freeze at night, simple logic should make that clear.
They don't on my house.
Thinking about gutter filter well think again. They quoted a price of $15000 then $10500 and finally $6750 to install filter guards.

BAD EXPERIENCES don't be taken by this dishonest company
Class action is needed here……
We spent almost $10,000 on about 300 feet of Leaf Filter system around the house, porch, carport and patio.
@@isaacogunmuko3947 come on you must work for leaf filter to say something as stupid as that. You don't run a hose on your driveway in the winter.
LMAO! 🤣🤣🤣🤣 *$10,000* on gutter screens! HOLY SCHMIT!
It's DUMBBELLS like YOU that keep companies like this in business.
