      The ice bath thing is actually a solid thing to do, but the person in question has to be willing. The main idea is that you stay in the icy water for a certain period of time to help focus your mind, control your breathing and remain calm despite the icy temperature. It's essentially to teach you to be able to take control of your own life and help ellivaite any doubt or insecurities.
      But having an angry man shout at you is counterproductive and misses the point entirely

The standard ones are getting tuition paid for, basic housing allowance, getting access to the military credit union, etc. I'm in the process of enlisting for the USMC and the benefits definitely aren't the main selling point for joining but they're definitely a plus unlike paying 18k for whatever tf this alpha male stuff is.

    The scariest dude I ever met was a Native American VietNam vet who was a dog trainer. Taught me to handle my shepherds and we became friends. Soft spoken, but intense. None of the crazy crap. Only once I saw him lose his temper. In the park where we trained, some idiot picked up his 7-year old off a swing and shook him, yelling at him. That dude just walked up to that idiot and told him to chill. The idiot didn't think much of that, dropped his kid and tried the usual shove in the chest. My trainer grabbed that fool, who was twice his size, and threw him to the ground like he was a pillow. Then told him to relax and go easy on kids... without screaming. Then walked back and continued our drills like nothing.
    That's when I knew why dogs followed his lead--they must have sensed some pack leader stuff.

    • @spawn302
      @spawn302 10 місяців тому +18

      I think you and Charlie have it all wrong. You're both right in that it's all stupid and a scam.
      You're wrong in what the "instructors"/scammers are trying to accomplish. They are trying to put on a boot camp. People who have been through a boot camp-style process understand exactly what is going on.
      The instructors are trying to recreate the environment of notorious boot camps in their entirety. These boot camps use a bunch of techniques to weed out people who don't need to be there, mold people who can be better, and prepare everyone for the stress of combat situations.
      A lot of the times these people also have something to prove to themselves because if they don't make it, they fail in their goal of serving their country. In more brutal military special ops schoold, the washout rate is higher on purpose. The schools are harder for the reason of seeing who has the mental fortitude to do the jobs these units are called to do. Failing something like that means losing an opportunity that couldve gone to someone who deserved it "more". On top of that, you just failed and didn't have what it took. A lot of mental strength is required to push through. But it's all by design.
      There is an allure to going to some of the hardest schools/academy/boot camps even just to be able to say "yeah, i did that. I accomplished what I thought was impossible. It took a lot of me to do it, and wanted to wuit. But i didnt and pulled through."
      These scammers are trying to (pitifully) to make people feel like they can claim that feeling of accomplishment by miming the tough aspects of boot camp. The "harder" the scammers fabricate it to be, the more these people feel like they are getting to "develop" memtally.
      In reality, every one of these guys has the $10,000 they spent in the back of their heads the entire time. The tough guys who go to try and inflate their ego even more, try even harder to seem tougher than the instructor hoping to be seen as "the most alphaest" male. In reality the entire time the guy in the video is acting like he is being defiant, he is hoping that the instructors applaud him for being "so alpha". But the whole idea for the boot camps is to break down egos and build everyone back up so they can work as a team, grow as a unit, and persevere. But clearly, they take the most cliché aspects of boot camp and do a piss poor reenactment with zero legitimate goal in the end for the recruits other than to get their money's worth. They utilize so many techniques like group punishments and intimidation but they all lose their effect dramatically.
      Ultimately, boot camps and such can make people tougher. Lots of people who go through military style academies have a degree of mental fortitude that can translate into a lot of aspects of their life after the fact. The thing is, no amount of money and acting can recreate that feeling of being a REAL boot camp. a boot camp that is used solely to "make people millionaires" is juxtaposing to the purpose of a boot camp.
      So many people in the military do great things, get out and unfortunately do dumb shit and get into addictions and die early or alone. It's not to say these people didn't at one point have mental fortitude, but it's to say that it's up to everyone whether or not theyre gonna utilize their life events to become better people and establish a good work ethic, boot camp or not. No amount of money wasted on a scam like this will get you that.

      Im saying that the instructors are disingenuous and robbing them because they are putting on a cliché boot camp to fool these people into thinking they are developing them as people. But they aren't. There is no combat to prepare for.
      The techniques used in the video are real techniques, but they will never work because the entire environment is phony. There is no real payoff for finishing like the military. The instructors are a bunch of has-beens/manipulators.
      A real boot camp would be way tougher than this and has genuine purpose. This has literally zero purpose other than make manchildren feel like they did something with their life, but they didnt.

    Friendly reminder. The whole "Alpha, beta" hierarchy bullcrap is derived from a study of wolf pack behavior. The problem being, those wolves being studied were in captivity, all unrelated, and the living conditions weren't even very good either. The guy that did the study wrote a book about the alpha hierarchy and has spent the last few decades telling people to stop buying it because it's all totally wrong when he eventually did a proper study and found wolf packs in nature are typically just regular family structures led by *both* parents.
    These "Alpha male" hierarchies are literally just glorified prison gang structure. Not even wild animals normally act like this. "Alphas, betas, etc." effectively don't actually exist (outside of prison) since the whole concept is flawed at the very roots.

    Former Infantry Drill Sergeant here. We have a reputation, but if you look at any number of real military training footage, be it Marine Corps Boot Camp, Navy SEAL training, or Ranger School, you'll see very few instructors that act like the overgrown steroidal babies in these clips. "Instructor resumes, good." Yeah, a couple of ex-SEALs, used-to-be Raider and Aviation Marines, a former SWAT officer, nothing overly impressive in the grand scheme of things, when you consider other UA-camrs who offer positivity and such after decades of service in military special operations. These guys look like they checked the boxes, got their token "cool guy" service, and decided to translate that into a lucrative cosplay where they get to be the stereotype of the military instructor while collecting massive paychecks.
    No, real military instructors can and will be hard on you, but in the end it all serves a purpose. As a Drill Sergeant, I didn't need to berate, intimidate, insult, or threaten any of my Trainees, because I knew two things: I'd earned what I'd earned over my years in service, and I had the backing of the US Army so long as I remained fair and ethical. If a kid didn't make it, they didn't make it and would be back on the streets within a few weeks or months. Make it through 14 weeks (now 23 or so) of training, earn your Blue Cord, and move on to the real challenge that is the real-world Army. Ranger, Special Forces, Delta, and other schools/selection programs are much the same. If you want it, you endure and earn it. Training is always the easy part. Doing is where it gets hard.
    Paying $1000s to be treated like complete poo by what amounts to the most toxic "instructors" ever is stupid.

All these men look to be in all sorts of physical condition some look like they work out a lot and some look like overweight slobs that haven’t ran a mile since high school and their ages seem to vary most of them middle aged . one grown man may feel okay with who he has and believe himself to be adequate, he looks at the programme and sees it as a scam.
      Another Grown man has been indoctrinated into the mindset of “Being an Alpha male is gonna get you the girl.” and has not seen any love, platonic or other, he can’t stand the thought that the values he held at his core for so long are awful so he believes that the issue is that he isn’t Alpha enough, he feels horrible about himself and believes that he’s inadequate and has no value outside of his “wolf pack status” which as of now he believes to be “Beta”.
      He looks at the Programme and sees a way to turn his life around, a way to finally feel loved by those around him, and an opportunity to be *Better*.

    Going to boot camp or basic training can (not will) reboot your brain to a degree and make one more proactive about stuff in their life, but that kind of change takes a lot longer than three days and you still need months of follow on training and interaction in a unit to become somewhat normal again. You also need the soul crushing despair of "this is my life now" because you signed a multi year military contract, not being safe in the knowledge that you will go home to a normal life on Monday. This three-day weekend stuff is just larping the most annoying parts of boot camp, and the fact that these guys a charging these bozos 18k for it makes it just the saddest scam ever.

    When I was 19 me and my friends went on a trip to Poland. One night I got so excessively drunk, I had the worst fear and hangover ever and wanted to go home despite still having a couple of days left. I travelled to the airport and could only get a last minute flight to the south of England for £350 (I live in the middle of Scotland) and had to pay £550 for a taxi home since it was so far and I just wanted home asap.
    It was one of the worst experiences ever and one of the most stupid things I’ve ever paid for. I could make this trip 20 times and it would cost the same (and probably be better) than spending £18,000 on one of these alpha male bootcamps; the fact anyone willingly parts with this much money for one is absolutely mind-boggling.

    I am BEGGING these men to go find a good therapist. PLEASE, a good therapist even if you pay completely out of pocket is still less than $10k a year (if you're going once a week) so it is still cheaper and you'll benefit much more long term. Men who think bootcamp roleplay is going to fix their lives are exactly the kind of people who need a compassionate professional. I hope these men can get the mental health services they need rather than being scammed into paying for their own abuse.

      For most of these guys, I imagine getting over that first hurdle of accepting that therapy can be helpful and should be sought out by men is a pretty big one. Mental health care is something that is still stigmatized for a lot of men, and most of those guys somehow bought into the whole "alpha" schtick which means they're already mentally in a pretty rough place. Add onto this the fact that therapy is on average less effective for men and it makes finding a decent counselor/therapist even more difficult. I think Dr. K has a video on that topic and why so many men are averse to seeking out some kind of mental health care of their own volition, and the ones that do quit fairly early on since they don't feel it's helping. Really unfortunate situation to be in for sure.

    • @Yezpahr
      @Yezpahr 10 місяців тому +2

      @@anokage7403 For these guys no amount of therapy is going to help.
      And to hook into what you said about therapy being stigmatized, it's because men are told nothing is bad enough to distract you from your duty as part of the workforce. Therapy does not work when the one getting the therapy sees through the unfair lies he's put through and "just has to accept it".
      Therapy means talking for hours and the therapist falls asleep while you're expected to talk until "it hits". What's "it"? That nobody matters. At all.
