Craig is that buddy you had as a kid that was 100% up for all the hair-brained schemes you could come up with (and giggle like a madman the entire time) 😁
ps theres a trick, when your tire is in the air you need to apply the brakes a bit and it will force the diff to transfer power to the tire with grip. (or....just weld the diffs and be done with it😂)
I was that buddy, and it cost me a lot of money braincells and cartilage😂. Not so sure it was worth it but it sure seemed like it back then. I know I at least gave my buddies some good laughs and memories😜.
Tell me about it, 😂, when i was driving on the mountains the company's car was like a wild animal on my hands. Passengers was frozen by terror but i managed to climb with steering surgeon precise and bunny hops moderate fast, they didn't had the time to jump out of the car. Once the boss got out of the car to see the car sitting on the frame over a cliff, i dared to jump from backseat and drift the car up to the mountain. It's important to search for tire friction with gas pedal and have a good feeling of steering and suspension to lift the car where is needed. Offcourse there are moments when its too much, for example on a vertical climb on a fire zone with loose rocks of the size of a foodball there was no turning back and even worse at the and an S curve. There was where tires smoked on loose rocks in two fast moves of the steering it was like quick sand but with rocks. Maybe it's because I'm a car mechanic and i feel better the machine.
I would cut off the rear behind the axel for weight reduction and maneuverability. Then cut half the doors so that the stereo still works and most of the water will stay out.
This was great, I'd love to see more content with it. Maybe weld up the rear diff and some weight saving mods like removing the front fenders, doors, hatch, most of the interior other than the front seats. Now you are left with essentially a giant side by side, haha.
Just want you to know this is my favorite show. I've become a more experienced rider, I ride safer and enjoy it a lot. Most importantly my life has turned around significantly since I have started praying and going to church when I can. Please don't ever stop making such awesome content.
I had one (Rolled it). I can attest that they are amazing until someone is doing 52 MPH on the highway and there’s is no amount of clear space that will be enough for you to pass. Mine used to have Les Schwab Grand Am highway tires and would go places that lifted trucks couldn’t and float across the top of the mud pits that would give the big trucks difficultly. So much fun, and the horn sounded just like the commercials! Beep Beep - Hi!
14:39 "It looks like a Dave" is literally perfect. "Hi, I'm Dave!" was how Ford design chief Peter Horbury described their US design strategy back in 2006.
The Expedition is a seriously underrated off roader. And the fact that the pre-2015 ones have the 3V 5.4 (which is a good engine if you maintain it) they're pretty cheap too. I picked up a 2012 fully loaded for $4800.
not an expedition story, but i was able to get a hold of a 90 4runner with 239,xxx kilometers on the motor and with a little body rust and no frame rust its basically a heated side by side, a honda civic current gen is bigger then my 4runner, i got a steal for it at 2300$ CAD
im also curious into maybe buying a newer expedition for the family to go around in as a daily, and use the 4runner for an offroader, is it pretty capable in all conditions ie 4 seasons?
If you look at the chassis of the expedition it's actually built really tough and has near perfect 50/50 weight balance. Believe 3.73 gears and limited slip are stock. Pretty decent off roader surprisingly
I used to off-road an old Explorer with no fenders and 35x12.5 tires. It would go anywhere I pointed it. It ended up with no rear cab behind the back doors. I miss that old thing but the cost of an off-road recovery in my area kept me from driving to its full potential
Had 33's on a "Vitara"(sidekick) and a front locker. The thing was a weapon off road for sure. Also recovered some other heavier vehicles over the years too 😅
I did something similar with a 94 K1500 Blazer. I decided that I liked it, so I went full out with the RZR and ATV's. I found that I VASTLY preferred the Blazer, didn't get muddy, stayed cool, stayed warm, didn't have to trailer it to the park. Was awesome.
I love the video but I don’t know how many people can find a $1200 4x4 expedition. I think it’s ok to up the ante a little and get a 2000 blazer 4x4 which anyone anywhere can get for $2,500. Another even better option for only slightly more would be a 2004-7 landrover LR3 which can be bought for 3000-3500 in decent shape. Take the doors off those and you have a side by side killer.
I remember when going on the trails used to be a cheap and fun time. We would get a dirt bike cheap or find a Honda Odyssey ATV (not the minivan lol) for $1000 . They have a built in roll cage and trust me we needed that.
you are 100% correct about country folk i grew up here in Australia driving in paddocks and then getting a 4x4 when i was 16 . just a tip next time try to put the hand/park brake on a little it can help sometimes by slowing the spinning wheel down and forcing some power to the wheel with traction. ie it try's to turn your diff into a lsd type situation . love your vids guys keep it up
I've always had the same mentality. A good older jeep or old explorer would be as good as the 15+ thousand dollar sxs. I'm glad you guys proved this idea. Great video, God Bless.
Cool test and demo video. A great sequel to this episode would be to make a DIY RZR/edition, by removing all the doors, back seats, and unnecessary weight from the expedition, then running the test again. I would believe 1000pds lighter would have a different result in the drag race.
This video was great! For me, the best part was the Easter message. Thanks for being bold and sharing your faith! Today is Friday...but Sunday's comin'!
I'd love to see this series continue - a few budget mods, like the winches and lincoln locker mentioned, plus a ~3" lift and some skid plates. Maybe a bit of weight reduction, although I doubt you'll find much while keeping it somewhat comfortable and dry.
What a cool thing to do. I wish I had something I could just beat on... even if I bought something just for that, I'd still find myself babying it. I live vicariously through you guys. Looks like a blast.
Really amazing to see how well the Expy did in the mud and trails. The whole time I was watching I thought “man if that was in Florida I’d love that truck!” We don’t have inspections here and I was floored to see how cheap you got that for. I’ve got an 06 Vulcan 750 I’ll trade ya for it if you get that back window fixed! 😂
If the Ford had the proper ABS system, the brakes most likely would apply on the side of the spinning tire resulting in the power going to the tire with traction. A cheap but effective way of power distribution to a open diff. Next time try a Subaru!
This theory is exactly how I bought my 1965 jeep cj5. Originally started looking for a side by side, now iv got a jeep I take to car shows because it’s all done up and everyone loves it. Still have less in it then a moderate side by side and I have just as much fun 😅
I have a 2010 suburu impreza sporti am about to start turning into a street legal go kart essentually. My wife wants me to sell it instead for like $1500. Thanks for this video bc it is going to help show her why keeping it as a toy is worth it. Also, love how you consistantly give the Lord the glory. Great role model for the kiddos. Keep up the good work bro🤙
In most states the massive advantage of any suv or truck over a side-by-side is that it can go on the road without a trailer. But also you can find 4x4 vehicles for just a few thousand… and sxs are crazy expensive in many cases. I’d rather own a cheap, old, street legal 4x4 over a specialty off road thing that needed to be trailered around. You can buy something like a Suzuki samurai for like 5k and it’s actually just as small as a sxs and with a little lift and some tires it’s capable.
at about 20 minutes into the video, use the breaks in the ford as you try and go forward to divert power from the wheels in the air to the wheels on the ground
This was another fun one. I’ve got a similar vehicle combo at the ranch. Older expedition but with proper 4wd, not AWD. Helps quite a bit. However the Polaris Ranger xp1000 will beat it in every aspect except creature comforts and towing capacity.
I used to have a 1999 Jeep xj. I bought it for a few thousand bucks and then dumped about 4 grand into parts. I would keep up and have lots of fun in the trails with my friends in their side x sides.
Having a great 4X4 and a sidexside, I still prefer the sidexside. It seems more fun because you can hang out the side and look at the wheels, plus you are more exposed which seems to be more fun. And they are more offroady!
I wanted a SXS but cant afford one so i got a 87 Chevy K10 for $3k and i beat the snot out of it in the sand dunes. Works so great! 4x4 and v8 with windows and heater is nice
Binge watching this channel I love it! Remove your seatbelt when off-roading next time especialy in mud if that polaris flipped in mud it can get dangerous. Much love and respect!
Just a reminder that limited slip diffs or posi are not meant for off-road they are meant for traction on road. As soon as you lift a wheel, it acts as an open diff. If both wheels are on the ground and there is slip then the clutches in the limited slip diff do their thing and lock up both axle shafts. That’s why electronic/pneumatic locking differential or just straight up locked are a must have for wheeling
I just got Lexus RX300 awd and it does so good off road its crazy. I put air mattress in back of it and have went camping with it. Has roof rack and light bar on front bumper lol
That SxS should’ve climbed that steep hill easily. Looks like he was only in 2WD. I’ve seen them climb some crazy obstacles so that hill shouldn’t have slowed you down. Just be sure to put in 4wd low for those types of climbs.
I totally get what the boys are getting at. Years back I had a pretty nice SxS, life changed and I had to sell it. Well I eventually replaced it with an old wrangler. For pure off-roading or inclement weather wheeling, the SxS to me, felt much more confidence inspiring. Odd considering the SxS cost like $10k more, I really didn’t care to much if something happened to the SxS.
When you are in a situation where one rear wheel is spinning, apply the parking brake while holding the brake realese to be able to modulate it. This is a trick to stop the one rear wheel from spinning if you don't have a limited slip.
You should try a Japanese mini truck, we use them on our ranch that has tons of hills, cliffs, creeks, etc. We put Honda tires and a 3 inch lift on it. It can go anywhere we could ever want.
You should disable the revv limiter and just hold the throttle down to the floor when it is ice cold and hasn't warmed up even the slightest. Either vehicle will do.
Jesus was raised from the dead by his God. We can have hope in resurrection as well. Sorry Sean but no one spends eternity in heaven. Scripture says the meek shall inherit the earth.
Even though I like Ford trucks, I always purchase Chevy or GMC pickups because of the four wheel drive that actually use all four wheels for traction for pushing snow.
Y'all are such an awesome channel! Involving all my favorite things, off-roading, motorcycles, JESUS!!! Also y'all should definitely modify "Dave" and make him better gooder!
I'd love to see this video redone with a Tracker, RAV4, or Samurai. The Expedition is way too big and costs twice as much as the smaller SUVs. Can we puhleeeeease get a redo! 🙏🏼
Cheap SUV vs SxS I always pick my suv in the winter because it’s allot warmer and more comfortable is the SxS more capable in tight trails yes but I just avoid them in the jeep while I have my heated seats and creature comforts….is the SxS more fun absolutely!!
Lovely to come back home on a Friday afternoon, and sit back and watch another episone of Cars and Beards. JK, you're awesome no matter what you're driving.
Enjoyed the video and have been considering this same subject for my next project. I would rather have seen a similarly sized suv vs a sxs.... like a liberty, tracker, samurai, etc...
U guy's remind me of my younger days when me and my buddy's were up for anything. Looks like a lot of fun. Stay safe and God be with you alway's. Thanks for the video. Have a great Easter.
My grandpa has a really old Ford Explorer that’s literally unstoppable he drives it through mud over stumps in tall grass and pulls trailers and pulls vehicles out with it. Ford are just amazingly capable
The side by side is always going to have the advantage over a full size vehicle off road because of it's smaller size and lighter weight. Just like an a quad will be able to outdo a side by side and a dirt bike will be able to outdo a quad.
I want to do something like this... find a small truck or suv for cheap as long it's in safe condition like it's not gonna snap in half or fall apart on me and only use it for off roading, get a lift kit, off road tires, skid plates, winch
I have an 01 Nissan Xterra that I got for $1200. I've gotten a little lost in the snow and ended up on SXS trails here in CO and it does just fine. She's up to 313k miles now as well

nahhh
I would cut off the rear behind the axel for weight reduction and maneuverability. Then cut half the doors so that the stereo still works and most of the water will stay out.

Great episode gentlemen!! Happy Easter to everyone💚💙
ah yes, open differentials, time to get the welder out LOL
Cheap SUV vs SxS I always pick my suv in the winter because it’s allot warmer and more comfortable is the SxS more capable in tight trails yes but I just avoid them in the jeep while I have my heated seats and creature comforts….is the SxS more fun absolutely!!
Lovely to come back home on a Friday afternoon, and sit back and watch another episone of Cars and Beards. JK, you're awesome no matter what you're driving.
There's kids in Africa who could have put Rims and new early 90s spray paint on that Expedition even with the rust
HAPPY GOOD FRIDAY
LOL at the music stopping and restarting. Great editing work.
You can help the 4wd by applying some brake when you get wheel spin
My grandpa has a really old Ford Explorer that’s literally unstoppable he drives it through mud over stumps in tall grass and pulls trailers and pulls vehicles out with it. Ford are just amazingly capable
Drag the e brake to help engage both rear wheels
The side by side is always going to have the advantage over a full size vehicle off road because of it's smaller size and lighter weight. Just like an a quad will be able to outdo a side by side and a dirt bike will be able to outdo a quad.
I want to do something like this... find a small truck or suv for cheap as long it's in safe condition like it's not gonna snap in half or fall apart on me and only use it for off roading, get a lift kit, off road tires, skid plates, winch
80K with 1900 idle hours equates to 57,000 miles with 80K on it. 137,000, not bad for a PD vehicle.
That's a really clean expedition for 1200 bucks jesus.
Okay so to do this right you need to buy a Suzuki samurai or tracker… which you can find already built out for about $4-$6k.
what good times you guys have. Would give a lot of have such a solid group of friends. Thanks for sharing
From 22:19 to 22:23. I laughed so hard. Just because I've done that in teal life.
Happy Easter everybody!
Your new catch phrase should be “it’ll buff out!”. I want to hear it in every video from here out! Lol
Great to see that Brad is still doin it
So much fun to watch these guys having great adventures!
I have an 01 Nissan Xterra that I got for $1200. I've gotten a little lost in the snow and ended up on SXS trails here in CO and it does just fine. She's up to 313k miles now as well
Dude I do miss you having your bike dealership. Every time I watched the show it felt like I was at a bike shop! Loved it and hope it comes back
God bless you guys ,for preaching on you channel!
