Matt, your piece on Ken for R&T was awesome. I work in design for Ford and had the pleasure of meeting Ken once. In addition to being a nice guy, he left an undeniable mark on automotive culture, and will really be missed.
"So there was I pulled over for going 3x the speed limit, and through some shrewd negotiation, the officer not only let me go, but attended my birthday party the following month."
Just read your Road and Track article after listening to this. Excellent piece of writing that had me, at 34yrs old, in tears realizing Ken impacted me so much and his legacy is everything we should want to celebrate in the car community. Thanks, Matt.
and he has to bring the dogs and gorillas! Hell he should do a story for vin wiki about how he lemon law'd 2 911's and still bought 2 porsches afterwards...
I still remember Micheal Schumacher accident it was so depressing i spent the entire day thinking of him and memories. On 1 Jan 1 had a very similar feeling These people changed many lives. Ken block was a true legend and a pioneer
Pioneer of what? Starting racing @almost retirement age? He was a nice person according to all but he was master at nothing apart excellent businessman apparently
how has this only had 15k views? This is the most comprehensive, eclectic and charming piece of content i’ve seen in a long time. Some of the greatest automotive minds here summing up decades of what we love, beautifully.
RIP KB. I remember the first time I saw Gymkhana Practice.. Similar to Zack, i was like WTF, you can do this with a car? I showed EVERYONE I know the video so many times. Such an amazing inspiration in our community. Good to see Ed on too.
@@EdBolian the man answers! Logistically nearly impossible, but we can dream can’t we? Would be great fun to watch.. probably torturous to make. Seriously it's like "final destination" or something, Please Travis if someone offers to fly you in a heli.... to visit a snow covered log cabin... to ride ATV's... just say no. Ed and the VinWiki channel with all the story tellers is one of my favorite things to watch UA-cam along with Matt Farrah and all The Smoking Tire content. What a great combo to put them both together. Great content guys.
ed, the cinematography and editing on the Christmas special car trek was so amazing. That was on the level of Chris Harris on cars piece, and I mean that in the highest of compliments.
I grew up in northern Maine and we would get a lot of snowmobile tourists who would come up and enjoy the trails. But sadly, practically every year someone from out of state would die because of excess speed. Snowmobiles _can_ be extremely dangerous. Slow down and use caution folks!
Speaking of VF you should see if you can have Nik back on after having run a super trofeo race team and bringing production almost fully vertical would love to hear him talk for an hour or two.

I definitely lean towards Eds opinion of " Being able to buy the non manuel version of a car simply to have it which could otherwise be unattainable " vs Matts no compromise get the right one or nothing attitude, but I see both sides as valid. arguments.
I think if the cars in Car Track were totally funded by the production, and they did not have real skin in the game on the cars, the show would lose something.
My wife worked at DC Shoes and I would often stop by and have lunch with her. I got to see Ken around the building, she got to sit in the Gymkhana 1 car and I absolutely fell in love with that flat black Benz of his. Even the license plates were painted flat black.
I am so happy that you guys recognized how special Ken Block was because for me if you're an ass I don't care how skilled you are I'm not interested. On the other hand Ken was a modest skilled gentleman whom I really admired and when I got the shocking news of his untimely death I kind of got a reminder of the shock I felt when Colin McRae died another skilled contrarian. Thanks 👍
You do realize your trying to get us to buy TV DINNERS!!! I dont care how fancy it is. Its a pre-made dinner in a carton just like the 80’s. People need to cook more not keep taking the easy route.
When I read the hoonigan IG announcement, I had to reread it as it didn’t seem believable. I hope they continue to make gymkhana, at least one more in tribute to him.
@@mitchellsteindler I know. Was more referring to people like Scotto. I don’t actually care if they continue to make Gymkhana films in general, but doing something in tribute would be fitting, and conceptually different than Pastrana carrying on.
I think there was a video out before gymkhana that really showed just driving and not motorsports. It was the yellow bird driving on the nuremberg Ring!!! But that video predates UA-cam by a lot.
Love Ed. Don’t care for interviewer. When the person you are taking to does not curse. Then why do you keep doing it I did not finish watching this because of your language
I cant even pay attention to this because ALL I SEE IS ZAK scrolling on the internet in the REFLECTION OF THE SILVER UA-cam BUTTON! Seriously! Go look!
Don't want to bash on a legend and his legacy, but there were matt black w140's and other "whale cars" in europe back in 1999-2000. Usually the guys connected to the ma-fi-a were driving them
OEM+ is fine for mods after a certain period of time because often the original parts can be flawed which the aftermarket addresses. Example, all the OEM plastic bits that crumble and fail after time (I'm looking at you BMW), the garbage brakes from older gen cars, worn out bushings can be upgraded with no added harshness, even proper coil-over suspension can be huge upgrade over the stock design (see Focus RS). All these I would value over an "original spec."
I wonder if you would have success if you had someone go through and pick moments from the old one takes for TikTok like the lambo/tree dragging clip. There are enough hairy moments to make some content, so you aren’t summarizing a 14 min video.
