@@KarinBohn Thanks for the response! I'll tell you this, I am self employed Realtor and interior stylist/stager in Texas. In Sept, I broke my toe so badly I had to cancel my 35th bday trip to Switzerland and miss also working as a stylist on a new HGTV show (luckily only missed one episode). Anyway, I was stuck in bed & DEPRESSED!!!!! Like badly. I found your channel and loved the design vids, but SOAKED up the biz advice and entrepreneurship lessons. So THANK YOU & keep 'em coming! :-)

Hi Karin! Your channel is the best thing to happen to my subscription box in a while! I work for an insurance company and it doesn't give me any satisfaction. I only love the people I work with. Growing up I wanted to be a fashion designer or interior designer, but my family convinced me to go for something more "traditional". When I started in my current industry, my spouse lost his job, so I felt like I had to stay where I was since my job was stable. Sadly, it is now many years later, but I've decided to what it takes to transition into something I absolutely love. Your content has really inspired and motivated me.

I'm so excited to see the new series unfold with the new office!!!
I'm a waitress right now going to school for cultural anthropology. I honestly love interior design as a hobby and it really inspires me to make active changes to my surroundings in order to benefit my mental health. What brings me satisfaction in my job is having appreciative customers who treat me kindly, and the satisfaction of a job well done (if I leave my shift knowing I gave good service and didn't mess up anything on my end). One thing I don't like about my job right now is that my coworkers aren't doing their jobs to their fullest which leaves more work for people like me who try to do what's required of all of us. It's really nice to see an operating office like yours that uplifts, empowers, and holds one another accountable for things in a professional setting. It really gives me hope for when I graduate and look for a job. (or go back to school for interior design)

I m working as a global strategic buyer for one of the largest food company in the world based in Malaysia . When u asked what’s my job satisfaction , sadly to say, I was just having the same dialogue with my colleague about that 1 hour ago , as I m turning 40 , I started to loose the passion in my profession and none of the major projects I m doing excites me anymore , i started to loose my job satisfaction, it becomes repetition and my job has become a job that pays the bill . Sad to say ...I have follow your video for a while , and felt connected to your channel n your character , started to think about doing a part time diploma in interior design ( a career path that I didn’t pursue when I graduated from high school , as I wasn’t sure back then if I should do interior design or international business study in my tertiary study and I chose the latter because of job security reason ) After years of working , I find that my passion and interests in design had no faded away and I m still like Design a lot , and did my own house with my own ideas and turns out everyone likes it ) . I am thinking of doing an interior design part time course and further develop my skills and see where all this leads me to . Wish me luck and once again Karin your video inspired me to reach out my dreams - if you want something - go and get it . I had the same problem - I can’t wake up early , but I will try harder and update you when I manage to rise early ! 😜 thanks again for all the encouragement n positivities from your channels 🥰🥰

Like you, I also lost the passion to my job (Human Resources) a long time ago and I'm only here for the pay check. The job is not motivating and very repetitive. However, i decided to start an Interior design blog and write about my home projects, DIY, inspiration etc etc Maybe soon I can venture into the Interior Design field permanently.

Hi Karin! I am working in the hospitality industry as an Assistant Front Office Manager in Paris. Even if I am not an entrepreneur, I can definitely relate to the majority of the content you put out. To answer your question, I get the most satisfaction out of my job when I train team members and I can see them grow and improve their skills; I find it very fulfilling. The most challenging aspect of it last year was to build a brand new team from scratch (half of the team left in about 3 months time) while managing a very high occupancy. It prevented me from focusing on the very point that gives me job satisfaction. Thank you so much for your hard work and for the satisfaction you bring me outside of my job =)

I'm a facility manager of a 2 floor building of 3500m2. What brings me the most joy in my work is when I get respect for the work that I do. I don't have to get a pad on the back everyday or a big Thank you every day, but every once in a while is nice. And if I get a Thank you even when I think a project it's nice but not great, that often makes my day. Also because it often reminds me of to be grateful of what I've already done, be still and be present instead of always wanting more (and more perfect).
And wow, waking up at 5AM..respect!

and the biggest obstacle is keeping myself moving in the right direction and not allowing my negative emotions (envy, anxiety, disappointment, etc…) to get in the way.

I completely agree with u on having my hands in different things. Iv always preferred to work for small business because I get to do more and learn more. For job satisfaction I need a balance of doing something I love, feeling like my hard work (because I always work hard) is being appreciated, and fair competition. I also think Managment/owners set the tone and can make or break a team. Favoritism and gossip are poison. And micromanaging instead on teaching and building will drive any employee crazy. Addressing issues when they happen and giving your team feedback on their performance is also super important to me. There is no worse feeling then not knowing where you stand with your boss when you show up to work in the morning because they never tell u how well or not well your doing. Iv had great and terrible bosses and Iv also managed large teams for many years and these were the things I thought were important. Hope this helps!

I also have a food blog and sell digital products on etsy. I was in retail banking for 12 years before I changed careers . I didn't like the fact that we were treating customers like numbers rather than individuals. We were under constant pressure to sell products that did not serve the customer. I love taking something that was a mess and organizing it into something that flows and helps me provide the best customer service. I also love being constantly thrown into learning about new products, and facing new challenging situations. What I do not love is a lack of mentorship/management not wanting to invest in growing an employee within a company. If you have someone who's passionate, cares deeply about your customers, and wants to learn then why the heck would you not be excited about that? For me, my satisfaction comes from knowing each client is satisfied when they get off my massage table refreshed and renewed in how they feel after the season- in times past I hated the downtime loved the on the go when I worked in a clinic setting but working for myself I have grown to love the downtime and relax in it 0:)

    Amazing content and inspiration, Karin!

Hi Karin! Love your videos. I'm currently in the fitness industry working as a group instructor, and also studying to be an interior decorator. I love my current job because I get to make a positive impact on people's lives and encourage them to make better decisions for their wellbeing! I actually call myself an energy dealer rather than a trainer haha. However, I've been struggling with job progression and growth in the fitness industry so have decided to (finally) take a leap of faith into the design world. Super excited to see where it takes me, and grateful for the inspiration - and dose of reality - you give to me and all your followers! X

    Hi, Karin!
First of all, I really want to thank you for the effort of making these videos for your community. You're such an inspiration! I am an Architecture student and you motivate me a lot to keep pushing foward even though sometimes can be really hard. About the fact that every job has good parts and bad parts.. You're right. There are moments when I am absolutely in love with everything that I do and there are moments when I feel like I can't do this anymore.. because most of the time, as you said, people see only the finish product and they are not aware of the hard work behind, nights without sleep and so on..
But I am not here for easy work so thank you for inspiring me to do big things in my career, step by step. I Love every single piece of content from you and just so you know, You are changing lives. :) Everybody need to see people like you, hard working, smart and in charge of their life.
I wish you a really beautiful day/night and btw I love starting my week with a cup of tea and your video on my desk. Kisses ♥

I have a small homebased business which is invitation making. What im not inlove about it is i do work alone because i live alone.😂 sometimes the work load and deadline put so much stress....however, at the end of every project, if the client still appreciate the output of my work, It pays all the stress and hard work. 😊 it's nice to know someone which will serve as your inspiration to keep moving. God bless. 😘

Hey Karin, I'm a freelance accountant/auditor (and aspiring food entrepreneur) and honestly, I only like the auditing part of my job. Accounting in general is very draining, but auditing gives me the opportunity to connect with companies on a less than regular basis ;) whereas in accounting I'm constantly involved in the back office, with the problems, taxes, people etc. So this year I decided to focus more effort on acquiring new audit clients :) have a great day and loving all your vlogs :)

I rarely read the comments so it surprises me that there are haters. Silly people, nothing better to do I suppose. Perhaps they miss the fact that you are being generous. Growing your business and sharing your growing pains, the good and the bad and being a genuine person in the process. Success is a good thing and the fact that you share how you work on that all the time is a benefit to others. I'm a Buyer for a manufacturing company. One of the parts of my job is I work with engineers to create bills of material and it's a long drawn out process and lots of nit picking, I like digging in and sorting it out and I love when I solve problems successfully. I hate when the "systems" don't work and it's one frustration after another and something simple becomes overly complicated for no good reason! ~Dawne

Hey Karin! Love your journey and I find it incredibly empowering to see you being so vulnerable and open with all of us. Thank you! One thing that I need to feel satisfied in my design business is working on a project that aligns with my values: authenticity, having strong concepts and moving from a place of purpose. When I have a client that understands and values this, I feel like I can do anything: research, work, put in more time and effort. I feel the opposite when I am working with someone who doesn’t care about how design decisions are made, doesn’t think twice on meaning or purpose in design choices and also cannot contribute constructively to move a project forward. I automatically become lethargic, powerless and loose hope that anything good might come of the project. Hope this answers your question for the #BOHNSquad! ❤️

Landscape designer here. What I love about my current employment is getting to do more than I did when I was employed somewhere. What I hated about previous jobs was having to clock into an office. I always say that working on the biz is one job and working in the biz is another. Hah!

i am currently working in maintenance at a high-end gym and what gives me job satisfaction is definitely the people i work with. along with that i’m finally a design student!!
my last job as a canvasser for a non-profit was not a similar experience and i’d say that’s what the worst part about it was.
    a healthy environment is key!!

I really needed to hear the last couple minutes of this video! Thank you for reminding to be patient in my career / journey & to just continue to stay focused on the bigger picture and continue to put the work in. It’s very hard with social media like you said, when it comes to listening to that voice that says you should be doing more or asking why you aren’t where someone else is. So again, thank you very much for your content always!

In my previous job I hated the lack of communication and confusion that existed among management and that eventually spread throughout the company . On the other hand I loved some of the possible lifelong relationships I established while there. And the fact that as HR was new to me, (I have a bkgd in Graphic Design) the position challenged my leadership skills and showed me things about myself I never knew existed!

  • @dodidoodles2297

I am a Graphic Designer...completely self taught, and I LOVE when I can bring someone's vision to reality. On the flipside, that makes my biggest hangup customers who aren't good communicators at all-since I work primarily online, most customers are texting their requests. I work primarily in the wedding industry, and over the years I've had to become a ninja at reading in between the words to know what someone is *really* looking for and the right questions to ask to get the info I need. The only other hangup I have is since we do live in such a connected texting world, I feel people have lost sense of what a proper business time response is and get upset and move on if you aren't responding instantly. That can be hard with things like...sleep! But, 8 years in I wouldn't change it for the world. And as for the haters...I saw an interview with Lilly Singh on Impact Theory where she addressed people making negative comments on social media, and she was saying how when you are in a happy place yourself, that it is not even in your mentality to say hateful things or spread that kind of energy. So when she sees those kind of comments, or goes to react, she just realizes that whoever is writing it is not in a good mental space themselves. Reacting only increases that negative energy. I wish you all the best, Karin! No one but you knows the path you are traveling, and to have your hand successfully in multiple industries has to be amazing and stressful! You built your business from the ground up and you own that! xoxo
