    I do contract low viz asset protection and high threat security for a living and the fundamentals of this video are sound. Depending on what you’re trying to do, you need to vary what you carry. For most of my work I carry g43x appendix with shield arms mags, one zip cuff fed through my belt loops around my waist, surefire stiletto and soft body armor. There’s a few more odds and ends that go with it but that’s the quick and dirty

    • @jk.smalls
      @jk.smalls 2 роки тому +1

      I also moved to a 43x with shield mags for contracting, it's really got no downside with the capacity and the grip of a compact with better carryability.

      @@jk.smalls the only real “downside” I see is felt recoil with sustained fire. IMO it’s not a pleasant gun to shoot, at all. It’s snappy and after a while it’s just annoying. But when you take size, weight, and round count into consideration, it’s damn near impossible to beat.

    • @jk.smalls
      @jk.smalls 2 роки тому +2

      @@NY_Prodigy Yea I think it has the tendency to twist more because of the thin frame, because of that I changed my grip from the standard thumbs forward to a wedge grip and that helped a lot. If you're curious about that technique Masad Ayoob from the Wilson Combat channel has a great video on it.

    Solid info. As a professional who did PSD/EP WORK for years, having the right look and kit is key. Only thing I could suggest for this setup would be to maybe trade out the single mag pouch and the double pouch that had your flashlight and baton for a triple HSGI Pistol Taco or similar multi-use pouch. That way you can ditch/move the baton and light off your belt line and add those extra mags if you needed them. Couldn’t tell what pouch that was for the light/baton so if they could accept mags then you’re already there.

    Another tip I recommend is band t-shirts. The band logo tends to draw peoples' eyes upwards away from your belt, nobody will think twice at someone wearing a Led Zeppelin t shirt or something. Denim jackets blend in with a lot of environments, too, so a denim jacket over a band t-shirt tends to be a good low-viz.

    I have a pretty squared away setup for my work, but I'm looking at concealable body armor for Christmas this year. We just had a shooting where a some guards were shot and a couple people at a resort close to my post. I heard the shots that night and the Police shortly afterward so it was something that made me think about stepping up my game. Guard Dog has some pretty reasonable and well made vests.

    A good old fashioned FFT video! Man, I started in this world around the time you started your channel. Now I pretty regularly work plainclothes details for political events or at live music events. I worked in Portland, OR throughout the pandemic / race riots and my team went plainclothes for about 8 months so we didn't attract attention from rioters. Once we started wearing blue jeans and tactical armor over our hoodies we quickly learned that was a dumb idea. Getting mistaken for a Proud Boy was not fun during an arson investigation.
    Lots of good well-reasoned arguments in your video Tommy. I will probably buy a new belt just for low-visibility assignments. It never occurred to me that I could just unstuck the front of my shirt...

Nobody thinks you're a cop or security and if they see you, they think you're an EMT or firefighter or paramedic if you've got a tourniquet, trauma shears. especially if you're carrying an IFAK or med kit on you.

    this is a great video!! i'm a 60 yo man in the pacific nw who has cc in wa & or (cuz or doesn't recognize any other states carry permit), and these are very practical tips for those of us that lawfully carry.
    i don't think i need the body armor, baton, or handcuffs. what i DO need is a holster, med kit with tourniquet (in case i get shot or stabbed - or someone else does), spare mag, and flashlight, as well as pepper spray holder. i think you left oc out of the equation though. i'd MUCH rather hose someone down with that than shoot them.
    that jacket would work most of the year where i live. i also have columbia sportswear fleece and waterproof hiking shoes, all of which i love! i have lots of columbia gear so i can ride my bike in the rain. around here, we'd wear an untucked flannel shirt, btw. i do this everyday most of the year, and i'm a grey man! how bout you post a link to the jacket?
    i like the idea of a duty belt for someone like me, cuz i've worn them in my 20's, and it's far more practical than some heavy belt you have thread through your trousers. plus it works for fat cops, lol! not that i'm fat: i still fall well within usaf regulations for weight, although at my age, not fitness.
    i'm too old to eff around with anyone in a physical fight - which i'm going to lose, so my decades of preparation are paying off! old age and treachery WILL overcome youth and skill, lol!
