There are individuals out there who have mastered the art of talking smart without actually knowing what they are talking about.

Thanks for sharing this! As a student it is good to see what can be expected in the real world. You raise an interesting point about not limiting these skills to the conference room. How many times have we been cut off in normal day-to-day discussions when we weren't even done getting to the point? If you're like me, it happens often; it's frustrating and can actually lead to losing the train of thought all together. Connector phrases like, "and here's why..." are great place holders in the flow of conversation. It signals to the listener in a polite manner that you're not done speaking. I'll definitely be binge watching your videos today in between work and studies! Great video! Thanks again!

Best video ! I believe she is a great speaker. Very clear tone, right speed and clarity of ideas. I learnt a lot from this video. I use to speak too fast & now I speak slowly. I make sure I get proper attention & message reaches clearly to other person. My art of speaking became more articulate, instantly. Thanks Kara

Hi, Kara, your tips were really useful. May I also suggest that a good way to prepare to think fast and talk smart is to do all your thinking IN ADVANCE and write your ideas down.
For instance, if I'm attending a meeting on water conservation, I'll sit for 30 minutes and reflect on all I know about the subject and consider it from every angle. I'll jot everything down.
Then I'll check one or two authoritative synopses.
Finally, I'll devise several possible questions and practise answering them. It may take an hour to prepare myself to speak for two minutes. It works.

Stop Worrying About What Others Think: Self-doubt and worry about others' opinions can hinder your ability to speak quickly and intelligently. This can trigger a fight-or-flight response, which diverts resources away from cognitive thinking and communication.
Get Straight to the Point: Avoid confusing or boring your audience by circling around the topic. Identify your main point before you start speaking and get to it quickly.
Handling Unexpected Questions: When asked a question you're not sure how to answer, pause, acknowledge the question, repeat it, and then share your honest thoughts and opinions.
Use Intriguing Connectors: Connectors are phrases that link your main point to your explanation or elaboration. They keep your audience engaged and interested in what you're going to say next. Examples include "Here's why...", "I'll tell you what that would look like...", and "There are three reasons why I believe that...".
Highlight the Number of Points: Clarify in your mind and for your audience the number of points you're going to discuss. This helps you talk faster and smarter on the spot and helps your listener to follow you better.

hi Kara. All your videos have been so helpful. I relate so much especially to this video, and the part about holding back due to overthinking about what other people think. I struggle so much due to this, even during general conversations.
Could you perhaps do a video on how to not worry about what other people think in midst of conversation?
I tend to do it subconsciously

Great video Kara! I would also recommend once you are poised with a challenging question is to
    1. Clarify the question. What are they specifically asking you
    2. Make assumptions in answering the question
    3. Based on who your audience is answer the question that you wanted asked and not the question that was asked .
    4. Use frameworks to answer question. If for example the question is your corporations profitability, state the general facts about either increasing revenue or lowering cost.

I definitely agree with you, it was useful. However, we don't need to use this method in some situations and some people prefer to take time before talking so my philosophy it is not necessary but useful. In my opinion, writing can also affect our thinking to talk smart because you learn how to express ideas slowly ❤ .

You are not alone..... really, you aren't.......I'm not quite there, but I will be and so will YOU. It actually has nothing to do with the present. Go back to how you were raised or talked to when you were in school. When you find that ONE place, that ONE person that made you feel insecure then you have answered your question. Good luck, it took me a mere 30 years.......God bless you.

The point of worrying about other's thought is good.
The point of winning time, will Not Help, If you are Just Not intelligence enough to think about the topic and generate an opinion.
Same for the connectors, If you are smart, connectors will Power Up your thinkings.
If you are dump, admitting that you dont have the answer yet, is true confidence

Nice vdo.Tips bt.as a professional in my opinion a little bit of analysis on human behaviour can however b of immense help.If we could anticipate how a person would behave in a particular situation then we could relate to the person a little bit better nd smarter ndthis would then form the effective PR nd will be result oriented which means we hv.to under stand human needs in other words we need to develop relationship that r fulfilling, evolving nd that propel us to higher plane of living as it boost confidence in human behaviour in brief. There r so many tips as it is a broad Always b positive under any situation to face nd that induce thinking of self realisation to take appropriate action nd decisions. In trying to deal effectively the employee or executive or people,to motivate them to do their best nd do what you want them to do,in addition to the satisfaction of the basic needs, the motivational needs of most people must also be satisfied and these are connected with their personal growth, achievement, responsibility nd recognition. It is obviously important to keep these needs in mind when developing people skills nd using them in real life Communication skill nd self confidence related to their own ideas r boon for themselves and for OD nd OB too in my opinion.vry.nice nd inspiring Lecture.Thanx

When I’m doing something I know or good at or what to learn I’m extremely confident and asking questions and learning.
My big issue is I get bored too easily with others conversations. I don’t consider myself smart. If I do, I would be pretty stupid. However, I love to be surrounded with smart people as I learn so much from things I’ve never heard of before, it’s like going to the gym with people’s vocabulary and thoughts that builds me into a better person.
I’m was never a supporter his of his family but I just can’t get enough of Robert Kennedy. His public speaking is on another level to all. Is their been a better public speaker than R.K.?
This is the 2nd video I’ve watched of yours. I’ve noticed you speak from facts and not theories and I love that about your channel.
There is always that moaning guy, well that moaning guy is me but I can’t find anything to moan about on your videos.
Keep the good work up. Your time and effort hasn’t gone unnoticed. I really hope UA-cam thanks people like you as your videos help more people turning on to UA-cam as an educational tool. Have a great day. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.
