At 1:50 when the girl says that she can't live without the dancing, the stage, the music, and the costumes, I soooooo relate to this. I absolutely love being on stage and performing. People pay to see the result of years of hard work and you can show off.

I think it's so that people who dont know much about ballet still understand the title and find it accessible - en pointe might look completely foreign to a lot of people and they wouldn't know what it meant

@@miaozebub it does communicate the same way, especially for people who don’t come across dance vocabulary often. But en pointe is the more proper way

As a dancer I feel like people don’t say I’m an athlete and they say dance isnt a sport. Thanks for showing the world the truth Disney!

I just recently finished this series and i'm obsessed!!!! They need to put out more stuff like this or make a second season.
People say its dangerous to push themselves I see it as you will never know what you can achieve without pushing yourself
as a dancer, if i don’t push myself i don’t get better. it comes with pain but also comes with the feeling of success
Facts I remember at my old dance school one girl hated our teacher because she made our class hard and she pushed us till we dropped and that was my favorite teacher

Currently watching this. Love it. Makes me a little sad because as a little girl I really wanted to be a dancer but we were poor. But I still enjoy watching others dance. Now I have a little girl of my own and once the world is back to normal, Im going to sign her up to classes and see if she likes it.
I love this documentary so so much, it s the second time that I have seen the show and I think I will be watching it more than these 2 times. It follows both the young ones and the older ones, and as a girl who isn’t good enough to pursue it as a career, I love it

i love how the date that this comes out is the date we have our opening night for our comedy version of the nutcracker since we couldnt do our regular:)
I dance and San Francisco ballet and it is so nice to be able to watch a real film about real ballet not just people in movies who make it look really easy because the truth is that ballet is really hard and about only 2% of people make it to professional

In fact, dancers are athletes. I liked knowing that the New York Ballet sees dancers as athletes and prepares them for the job market. Very true documentary.

This made me remember the dream I had more than 30 years ago. Sadly, I have to hang my pointe soon because I was diagnosed with scoliosis at 13. It was really hard work back then, but all I remember now is the thrilling and amazing experiences. I'm so happy to see the burst of dreams in those toung dancers 💜💜💜

I had the spirit but definitely not the body. Back in the early 1970's, my darling, amazing, incredible ballet teacher had the tough conversation with me about exactly that. At 12 years old my dream came to an end that day. I continued to take ballet classes up to the age of 22. At 22 my back issues really kicked in and I sadly had to find an alternative form of exercise. I admire all dancers/athletes, it's a huge amount of hard work and dedication. All I can say to the young people out there don't give up and fight for your dream. 💖

I really hope they also show the dark side of the ballet world. Even though I'm not part of the professional dance world I have a lot of friends who are and ballet not only is physically exhausting but mentally exhausting. Not to mention the fact lots of ballerinas have eating disorders because of the high body standards.

At first, my mom wanted me to watch this and I didn’t think I’d like it. I watched the trailer without audio because my sound wasn’t working and I looked boring. Now that I watch it with audio it looks amazing! AUDIO MATTERS PEOPLE

Did they say that NYCB is *the* best company in the world? Sure it's *one*of the best companies, but there are so many other great companies - Royal Ballet, Bolshoi, Marinsky, ABT, Paris Opera, Dutch National Ballet etc. that it feels a little presumptuous.

Those auditions for nutcracker are so scary you can't even imagine

I always dreamed of what if I was a ballerina, I was when I was younger but I never experienced dancing with the point feet, But ballet will always have a special place in my heart just as art does :')
Ballet is hard. And I don’t mean the type of hard where you struggle a little bit and it’s all good nah you sweat like crazy your legs are sore and hurt at the same time you get dizzy it’s a lot but it’s all worth it because I couldn’t imagine living without ballet 💕

This should be interesting for someone like me, as I would do ballet, along with scouts and sea cadets if I got the opportunity to do my life over again. And here's another thing. I would much rather wear a tutu and tights than what men/boys normally wear in ballet classes. They're simply so beautiful. On the other hand, a light blue leotard instead of a tutu would be just fine as well. My dream ballet roles would be the fairy godmother in Cinderella, the fairy in Sleeping Beauty who softens the bad fairy's curse or a white swan in Swan Lake. I recently saw Red Sparrow and wanted to wear Dominika's red tutu (and pointe shoes of course).
To me, Dance is kinda of a Spiritual thing. It's a celebration of life, and living, and the Joy us expression of that. With the expectation of happiness in the future, with maybe a little prosperity along the way. 👼, Sincerely the Kid

@@marissaurias5116 Oh they get plenty of credit. The social stigma against male dancers needs to be addressed but male dancers are paid more than female dancers, valued more than female dancers, and they don’t have to stave themselves to make it like the women do. I hope the gender disparity in the ballet world is addressed in this series. I was a professional ballerina and when my partner screwed up in rehearsal and injured me, the company fired me instead of him. Gender inequality is a huge issue in the dance world.

Yes! I’ve been in ballet for 6 years add I love it. However, I’ve never seen ballerinos acknowledged outside of the dance world, except for that Lara Spencer thing. I really hope we get a spot in this. I’m excited!😄😄😄

This is all relatable I’m a dancer so being called a athlete is nice as people don’t think we do much as other athletes it’s nice getting the credit that we deserve
Artists should be valued above athletes. It's sad that society makes people want to be called athletes instead of artists.

People always say we (we as in dancers) aren’t athletes because ballet is easy it’s slow and you just move your body in different ways. That is entirely untrue! They don’t know the effort we put into making our bodies strong enough to hold ourselves up by our toes (yes I know there’s a box that helps I am en pointe). It takes an insane amount of ankle strength even when you’re not en pointe!
I have tried a lot of sports in my life, ballet was by far the hardest one.

ballet is by far the most impressive sport, i'm always so blown away by what they're able to do and what they do to their bodies to get there
Thank you! That means a lot. Not even my family gets how hard dance really is. My dad and brothers play basketball and baseball, and they are really good, but they don’t have to make every move beautiful and graceful. And because we have to make it look like it’s easy, everyone just assumes that it is. In reality it even harder because we have to smile.
Just because it's physically challenging doesn't mean that ballet is a "sport". It's an art.
