I think survival skills should be taught to all people who will go into the wilderness, or who live in/near a wilderness area. I mean, technology is great yes, but technology can fail. Then what? Your a bit stuck then. These skills are pretty universal. Especially lighting fires and cooking. Pretty universal no matter what the terrain. Also, i feel that these sorts of things give you an appreciation for the world around you. At least, i feel that it has given me more of an appreciation.
if you think of it. im young and i think low tech survival is a must to learn in an area like this. If they were cut off of any support/higher tech and had to live it out whether it be a week or a year it would be wise to learn survival skills. even if you may not need them anytime soon but to pass it on encase you kids or grandkids need them in the future.
The jigger floats upside-down right under the ice, pulling the rope moves the jigger forward as shown, then the weight of the metal rod makes it drop (the fisherman says that) to a perpendicular position ready to repeat the processe.
@jonathanh040 it is hard. Caribou have greater senses of hearing and possibly sight, and they can run faster. Plus there isn't camouflage for the hunter. Also, did you not just hear the end? They're trying to keep their tradition alive, they are trying to keep to the old ways.
so they use the jigger to lay down the rope from 1 hole to the other. If that was bear grylis he would of swam across under the ice with the rope tied to his waist.
becuase the heat from his tongue and breath made the ice a liquid but if it was metal like a pole it would stick to it in less then a second :( kind of scary
Though he demonstrated on the ice, I would have liked to see the jigger in action in the water. I just wonder how that would really work, wouldn't there be rocks and uneven surface that would get in the way. Can't imagine that thing working flawlessly.
Rocks in the ice? That is highly unlikely. Uneven surface - could happen, but it's a lake so it will freeze quite evenly and thus eliminating the problem.
Larry Whittaker ever hear of adapt? Adapting is what Natives and Inuits do best...seriously why is it big surprise when Indigenous people adapt with modern times? Hahahahaha
30-40 fish, good to know you dont have a limit like everyone else. even if your an eskimo indian what ever you wanna call it trying to survive, you can still over fish a lake.
owen burce It once was thought to mean "raw meat eater." It's not the most flattering name and they prefer "Inuit" meaning "The People." I'm Canadian so we've been taught this in school as children. If anyone would like to correct me or add to my statement, please do.
lol...vid is sick but the spear fishing shit is a joke...they cudnt catch a fish so they jus stuck a dead one on the spear n made it look like it was caught....or it died in like 2 seconds, or had a heart attack or some shit like tht that may have caused instant death

that fish was huge..
Old school will always be the better school. Good comment!
that's interesting!
because he rubbed it and blew on it to heat it up a bit so his tongue wouldn't freeze to the ice.
Why does the camera move away when he goes to spear the fish...
Looks like staged section, freshly speared fish would be fighting not barely moving and speared near the tail.
Fake News!
hey CP
It didn't, the hand is quicker than the eye.
klasse.............
It’s not the old techniques that make it harder to fish now, quite the opposite it’s the high tech rigs with huge nets and cargo stores.
how the hell did they get it out? they cut the most important part.
also the fish in the beginning was already dead, it shouldn't die that fast.
They get a hook and pull it out. And yes fish can also die right away from paralysis.
Wish I caught 4 fish in 2 hours, lost track of the amount of times I've spent looking at a rod tip for 2 hours.
hahaha
bear gryliss is tough man. he has been in the forign legion !
Wow, his moustache is on winter season...
how so
thats only with frozen METAL. licking plain old iice, especially clear, pure ice, is not bad
Is it only me who thinks his tongue will stick in the ice after licking on it? 😂
@leparditas who says they're suffering? This is the way they've always lived so why should they change it just because they can?
i want to live there
Is it called mobile hunting technique ?
Thumbs up for the frozen mustache at 3:31
so they use the jigger to lay down the rope from 1 hole to the other.

This makes me hungry..

Ok
becuase the heat from his tongue and breath made the ice a liquid but if it was metal like a pole it would stick to it in less then a second :( kind of scary
@topbluffa1 jesus christ i wrote that comment like a year ago, and they are inuits. Which are NATIVE to north AMERICA.
After all that people are commenting how his to tongue never got stuck on the ice. 😂
Though he demonstrated on the ice, I would have liked to see the jigger in action in the water. I just wonder how that would really work, wouldn't there be rocks and uneven surface that would get in the way. Can't imagine that thing working flawlessly.

I wonder if they eat anything that's not from the water.

read up on native Americans they are a mix of Chinese and Amazonian .
where is these guys i think are oriental cross Russian or something.
Tongues wont stick to the ice....just metal
if its cold enough your tongue will stick to ice no matter how clear it is
Jiggers and nets are not "traditional" tools.
Nets have been used by ancient tribes for centuries. It's not new, the only thing new about it is the material it is made from these days.
Larry Whittaker ever hear of adapt? Adapting is what Natives and Inuits do best...seriously why is it big surprise when Indigenous people adapt with modern times? Hahahahaha
@@dn2ze So then "traditional" rights don't apply if they aren't doing it traditionally!
lmao
jigga what???!
at least they are big fish instead of tiny shits.
@AnthonyReigns man some 1 actualy thought these people were chinese
30-40 fish, good to know you dont have a limit like everyone else. even if your an eskimo indian what ever you wanna call it trying to survive, you can still over fish a lake.

It’s not offensive. Only the far left people think so .
