- Опубліковано 9 лют 2025
- Gary Leon Ridgway, also known as the Green River Killer, is an American serial killer. He was initially convicted of 48 separate murders. As part of his plea bargain, another conviction was added, bringing the total number of convictions to 49, making him the second most prolific serial killer in United States history according to confirmed murders. He killed many teenage girls and women in the state of Washington during the 1980s and 1990s.

"The task force investigators believed that there were probably more bodies to be found in that area, so they decided to conduct a search with the assistance of a team of teenaged Explorer Boy Scouts." Wtf? They realistically expected to find more bodies, & their go to idea was: "Let’s utilise a group of young teens, with the possibility they might discover victims' violated corpses, potentially mentally scaring them for life!"

It’s crazy that his workmates called him Green River Gary...and Ted Buddy had him figured out. Just the police who struggled
The police had an idea who it was but they needed evidence - they cannot do anything without evidence
To be fair criminals and serial killers themselves tend to be some of the best profilers, so it’s not too big of a stretch for the, to figure things out lol
The thing that is always so chilling about Ridgeway is just how forgettable he is in normal settings. He’s the guy you see in the crowd and quickly forget. And it worked to his advantage.
My 2nd cousin used to play pool with him at one of his " pick up bars".

It's never a mannequin.
😂
Actually, in LA it often is.
I’ve noticed that a lot of people who have the unfortunate experience of finding dead bodies usually think they have found a mannequin. I wonder how many people have gone on with what they are doing and thought no more about it and it has been a dead person of which they have been close up to . God bless all the victims , the families and friends that have been effected due to Gary Ridgeway. I hope that the Police of whom were involved in the arrest of him understand that a lot of people thank them . I also pray for Ridgeways family as they are not to blame . 🤮he is a sick man . 👺and will have his punishment in hell .
They always think it is 🗯
You know it
In 1987 I wrote up a rough semi-investigative paper about the Green River Killer. At the time I wrote it I was living in Ballard Seattle, Whittier Heights. The very same week I wrote about GRK several more body’s were found localized in what would become known as a ‘ primary body dump’. Gary continued killing women for over a decade after I wrote that paper. In fact it was closer to two decades...
That's just a tragic injustice. 😔

Oh man, the guy in the river that fell in and realised that it was a real human being and then to see another one - that’s the stuff of nightmares, absolutely.
Just so terribly terribly sad.
There is a fascinating documentary somewhere on UA-cam about Ridgeway’s wife and her life with him, their relationship and her perspective of their life during the years Gary was killing these women.🐿
It's such a common theme, it's terrifying.
"...had a vision that another woman's body would be found around interstate 90."
Oh man, what a highly specific and unlikely tip.
The psychics on these cases are so godamn useless
I wish we could refer to the victims as women instead of prostitutes. They were human and someone’s daughter, sister.. friend.
I understand your feeling - it sounds like they are assigning them to the habit than rather the rest of their life. I think, from what I know of this case, the intent is to show the theme, psychological origin, and method of Ridgeway’s crimes. In the bio of Ted Bundy they consistently called hiss victims “students”. which is true but not the only defining slice the women. If you look at John Wayne Gacy’s case, his younger male victims are also narrowly defined. I do agree that there is no real way to describe this situation without it being unpleasant, and that’s unfortunate.
I know right
Maybe you can hop in your DeLorean and ask Ridgeway not to target prostitutes so that history can be different.

I was a Seattle Police Explorer in my early teens (an affiliate of the Boy Scouts but more a police cadet program.) I also believe that Ridgeway approached me as I was the point on a line a search (I was the one on the road while everyone else was in the trees and bramble), but who knows. After all these years some memories aren’t very reliable.
I also have connections in my family to Ted Buddy. My memories of him were of us scaring each other to run home at night yelling, “hurry or Ted will get you!” My sister met him at the beach where he sat with her and her girlfriend (who was his type) and my Mom worked at the crisis pre enticing center with Ann.

I put this on the chat but I thought I would put it here too. I don't know do they post the same way? IDK but anyway. If you are interested in GR I recommend the book "Defending Gary." It's written by the defense attorney for the case. It has a different perspective. I know someone who went to school with him. She said he seemed like just a normal guy. I live in the area where this happened. Recently a Jane Doe was identified as Wendy Stephens, she was 14. So sad. Women are not disposable objects. I always think about father, Robert Rule, who forgave GR in court. During the sentence hearing GR remained emotionless as each relative spoke. Then Robert Rule said he forgave him. GR cracked and cried.
Seemed to me like that father checked out a while before his daughter was even killed. He didnt care about her, let's face it. She was hooking, obviously her family life wasnt all that great if she turned to the streets. The father might have even been why. But I get the impression he was just soaking up his 15 minutes and didnt really care that his daughter was dead. If he didnt care when she was alive I doubt he started after her murder...
@@ispartacus1337 I just think that of course he loved his daughter. Just because he forgave GR doesn't mean he didn't love his child. Sometimes even people who are loved make poor life choices ie become a prostitute.
It's almost impossible to belief that Ridgeway managed to kill so many victims without being caught. He had to pick up these women, drive off somewhere where he could kill them, and then drive off again, with a dead body inside his vehicle, to various places where he dumped his victims. And all that happened while the whole area was under intense scrutiny by the police who stopped and searched cars and trucks, had undercover officers roaming the area where Gary picked up prostitutes and were generally more eager to solve the case..
Hell, if I went to my dealer to pick up something 50 times, there's a 90% chance the police would stop my car, frisk me and find the dope. And this guy managed to drive around without the care in the world, kill women and dump them while being inside an area with hightened police presence.. A guy with so much luck should have won the lottery.
Also the fact Seattle & Tacoma via PAC Highway are a 30-40 minute drive from Maple Valley, Black Diamond, Ravensdale, Auburn & The Green River. I think it has to do with the areas being so underdeveloped during that time. Even now only Auburn is heavily developed, Maple Valley coming in a close second. But Black Diamond & Ravensdale are still very rural & wooded, same with parts of Maple Valley & Auburn. Lots of windy long two lane roads in heavily wooded areas.
I remembered watching Robert Stack recording an Unsolved Mysteries from the bank of the Green River during the search for Gary Ridgeway. If I remember right the taxi driver was still a suspect during the airing. They had obviously did an update clearing the taxi driver and identifying Gary Ridgway as the GRK.

that was odd.
democrats
UA-cam demonetized videos with that word, among others, for fear it will trigger people.
@@nilstrobaggia735 ffs not EVERYTHING is about a political party. Moronic comment.

I wonder if Mind Hunters will ever have this character on the series, it seems they’re leaning towards BTK..
Do you know if mindhunter will have another season? Great show.
It’s cancelled or postponed indefinitely
That's what I heard too.
Why? That's a great show!
@@darkkiss7247 David Fincher the director wants to do other things, shame as the cast were all wanting to do another series.
I was living in Seattle in 1988-1994 and moved back in '98. I moved again in 2001. I was ALWAYS scared of the GRK even though I lived far from there.
I was just wondering about this horrible man.
According to a book on him, he quit when he was in a stable relationship or marriage.
Also age often has a lot to do with it. Many serial killers "burn out" as they get older and stop.
that because sex became free
Murder for 16 to 19 years and admitted to 71 murders. Average 3 to 4 a year. I think he probably killed more. Sick. In 84 one of his victims boyfriend followed him told the police. And yet he’s not arrested till 2001
A mix of police incompetence(which happens a lot with serial killers), Ted Bunty helping is interesting, but really think he did it as a thrill for himself first(getting fed all those juicy details next best thing to doing it yourself) he would have been getting off on that for sure, But the Kryptonite of modern technology and good old DNA is the scourge of the Serial Killer, without that there's a chance Gary Ridgeway would still be hiding amongst us today in plain site.
Why can't you say "rape" during the vid? Is this some kind of ridicule UA-cam policy?
UA-cam loves to demonitize the creators every chance they get 🙄
I really love the voice of the narrator. It's melodious, soft-spoken and captivating.
I'm pretty certain it is also a computer generated voice. The technology is getting quite good.
@@mattc5937 Now I feel dense bc I think you are right. Still a nice voice though :)
Hahaha, YAAAAAS dancing my butt to the serial killer funk.
I wint be joining you in the live as real life has taken over but have fun in the chat and will catch up soon.
Bright blessings all and stay safe💜👊🏾💫
Missed you Applez
They need to stop making deals with these killers, especially those like Ridgeway who is afraid to death about his own death!!
Up here in Canada in the ‘90’s there was a serial killer named Clifford Olson. He killed 10 women but hid their remains very well. The Cops/RCMP paid him $10,000 for each of the bodies he led them to in order to bring closure to their families. So, $100,000 and the money went to his wife. Just sick.
WOW SKD! Thank you, I learned more!
Great video, live chat has slow mode so you can keep up with the comments better 💕
I know, I just like fast scrolling chat. It gives the impression that I'm successful :)))) "Hi, Ruth!"
I almost feel guilty for thinking "I wish they'd cover a killer with a higher body count" before watching this video.....
You should feel absolutely guilty

Great video as always! Really like the longer format videos. Only critique is the phrase "More over" is slightly over used, but this my just be personal preference .
Love these videos but I'm with you, if I have to hear more over one more time I'm going to end up with my own episode of serial killer documentaries lol
Nice touch having the dancing serial killers ending tease folks who click on the link beforehand, SKD ;)
Great idea isn't it. Skd funky style
The Green River Killer... Gary **my brain process the image... wait, isn't that Gary OLDMAN?** Oldman...
Me: WTF!? **Reads again** ... "Gary Ridgway".
Ufff.
Best comment ever :) I can completely relate tbh.......
Hahahahahahaha awesome
That means Gary Oldman got away with it
@@AFishBicycle , he's a very versatile actor

gloria commenting; Rigway was married. Bundy was married. Fish was married- had six children...
That picture of Bundy makes him look like a budget Willem Dafoe.
Willem Dafriend?
William Dafoe without much more than base instincts
To be honest, Ted Bundy does look like a budget Willem Dafoe. Or Willem Dafoe looks like a budget Ted Bundy.
It's a bit baffling that Ridgeway was able to operate for such an extended period of time, relatively unobstructed. He is rather unintelligent and unsophisticated, yet was able to elude capture for 2 decades. There were no doubt a lot of mistakes by law enforcement in this investigation, and being as serial killers were just starting to be studied and profiled, probably helped him considerably. I highly doubt he would be as prolific in modern times with DNA and much more effective investigative techniques. Glad they did finally apprehend him though, because he wreaked absolute havoc in that community for decades.
Well spoken
I think it has a lot to do with how under developed, heavily wooded and very rural these areas are. Also the fact Seattle & Tacoma via PAC Highway are a 30-40 minute drive from Maple Valley, Black Diamond, Ravensdale, Auburn & The Green River. Even now only Auburn is heavily developed, Maple Valley coming in a close second. But Black Diamond & Ravensdale are still very rural & wooded, same with parts of Maple Valley & Auburn. Lots of windy long two lane roads in heavily wooded areas. The river floods often in the spring & fall, causing lots of blocked roads and the areas are so rural when the powers out due to storms it’s out for days usually.
I can confirm this because I grew up in maple valley and rented a house directly on the green river after high school on Green Valley Road.
In my expert opinion, gary murdered at least 85 to 100 women. Even though he was charged with 40+ murders.
I think so to
I have followed this since I was in high school in the 1980's. You did a great job with this.
Hey from Australia ✌️🖤
I'm about to watch this for the 3rd time cause Ur voice keeps lulling me to sleep lol
If the first and second time didn't work, I don't think the voice actually helps you sleep :)))
Actually I hear this a lot in comments
I cant sleep when the doc.. is this interesting
Listen lady...I happen to live with my beautiful daughter and her 3 children which at times is quite hectic and noisy, so most times I don't get to enjoy SKD until I'm in bed at night and his voice is soothing to the point where I can unwind and relax...
Did U read my next comment where I actually got to watch it in full and loved it🥴✌️🖤
I remember when the movie premiered on lifetime! It was intense
How is the movie called? I didn't even know that there is one :)
Yeah! It’s called the Green River killer!
@@timishablackwood7711 Thanks, I should have thought about that title myself 🤦
I've seen the movie, but it's been a while...
Fun 'fact': his brother, Stan Ridgeway, was the lead singer for Wall of Voodoo. I prefer Stan by far.
I don't think so. Gregory and Thomas are his only siblings.

When they had 'Scouts' help them find skeletons, I KNOW...I KNOW that it wasn't like a bunch of 13-15 year old Boy Scouts searching BUT it is what immediately came to my horrified mind lol.
@@leroyvisser412 found one
Should have let the Boy Scouts handle it. Maybe they’d have done a better job. This is their world too and they are not shielded in any way from evil. It’s dripping all over their world. Some of the children killed were their age. Aren’t they stockholders? Wouldn’t they have been charged as adults if any of them has committed a crime?
It is really true what they say "not all hero's wear a cape"
Rip 🪦 to all those lives lost 😞
This was great. Always happy when a new ep is out
IMO the suspecting William Stevens was a major issue in the case because there was an Unsolved Mysteries segment on the killings back in the day and you could tell the detectives got tunnel vision with Stevens which left Ridgeway free to kill.
