Really great and informative video for a newbie cattleya grower. I thought my cattleya had an infection until I watched this video and saw that it is normal growth!! Thanks for the help!
I've missed you for some time and was worried about the fires. Today I searched for you and found this amazing video. What a story and what a trooper Frankie is! Hooray! He's our hero and I think many humans can learn from him. What a sweetie. And your Holiday Gift to us is a treasure. Thank you! I have a bunch of vids to catch up with. I am thankful you are all well now. Tobey probably needs some extra hugs, too! Good health and happiness wishes to you all.
Yeah, it's so cool when the babies ( mine are triplets) emerge from their cradle! That plant has sheaths usually, but also occasionally throws out a bud from the leaf. 👍 enjoyed the video, beautiful blooms ! Our gorgeous hobby! 🤩
Thank you for this very informative video. I've recently begun collecting orchid plants and am trying to absorb as much information on care, etc. as possible. I have only one cattleya (Blc.) at this point and find myself staring at it endlessly trying to figure out how it's growth is progressing and what to expect as far as its blooming cycle goes. I love your explanations along with showing the progression of new growth. Thanks again :)
Some of the complex hybrids can never make up their minds what they want to do. I've got an RLC Settle Me Down that is mostly unifoliate but occasionally has a bifoliate growth. Depending on when the growths mature (it produces about 3 growths per year after flowering is finished) it may or may not have sheaths, early growths bloom from sheath but later growths bloom directly from the leaf joint. And who is that little cutie that cameos @10:14?
Michael McCarthy haha that's our new addition, little Frankie 🐶🐶 ... Have to be extra vigilant of rogue LECA beads and tasty looking orchid leaves these days... He eats everything!!
Orchideya I definitely don't claim to be an expert. But I will share what has worked for me as I changed their conditions over time. Orchids are so slow and you have to be so patient with them to notice change 😂

Thank you for this detail of stages! I recently got 3 of them and they are my first. I bought them with no flowers so I’m anticipating to see them!

Yes poor Toby does get a little neglected sometimes with all the fuss over Frankie! He’s a good big bro :)

I’m glad you found the video useful Susan :) . Sometimes it's just nice to know your plant is acting 'normally'!
