Dom2k why wouldnt Ntilikina? Has there ever been a player that can defend at an elite level and shoot at an elite level too while being 18 and was simply a role player? I mean combine that with his physical gifts and come on thats just a weird comparison to write off a high potential rookie this quickly
Frank Ntilikina isn't a terrible player. As a Knicks fan I would have loved if the Knicks drafted Smith but the European players suprise sometimes. Darko was supposed to be a super star being the best player on a championship team, but was a bust. Kristaps (Knicks pick) was supposed to be a 3-5 year project but is now a top 7 power forward.
THANK YOU everyone is already saying the knicks made a horrible move. NEITHER HAVE PLAYED A MINUTE IN THE NBA YET LET THEM PLAY. Ntilikina will be fine.
You answered your own questions twice. Portland did not need durant at that time. Portland needed a big. Portland had good guards, a super star with roy, and a power forward with aldridge. What they needed was a big, if that big didn't end up being injury riddled, that's a championship team. That same team with durant is not a championship team. The same thing can be said with MJ. Portland had drexler and needed a big. That same team with MJ does not win rings. The what ifs of portland in that time is losing the coin toss to get hakeem, who portland wanted, and getting screwed over by the soviets by sabonis being kept from them. Portland is not stupid, they're unlucky. That is a big difference.
Rubio is actually a better pure PG than steph and is a better defender . But that shot for curry is just historical and Rubio is the complete opposite with barely a shot
You said you didn’t watch college basketball in 2011, so I’m assuming you didn’t watch in 2007. Greg Oden absolutely dominated Al Horford, Joakim Noah, and Marreese Speights in the championship game. Noah could do absolutely nothing offensively against him and at the same time couldn’t stop him from scoring and staying in foul trouble the whole game. Odens ppg wasn’t as high as Durant’s because he usually didn’t play 4th quarters because they were blowing teams out while the longhorns hardly blew people out. Oden shared buckets with 4 NBA players on his team, while Durant had 3 Damion James wasn’t really a scorer. And Durant had horrible defense in college. I know you don’t have to play defense in the NBA today, but in 2007 defense was important. So 10 years later, I still say oden was an obvious pick.
Everyone who knows just a little bit of ncaa will pick Oden (I don't watch college basketball either), center in way important back then and Oden is just too good, have stats better than every single hall of famer in college.
lmao im a raps fan so im not complaining, just think it is not talked about at all and would be better in this vid than oden over kd, as that is more than well known
The thing about Dennis Smith Jr was that he didn't even give the Knicks his medical record so that they WOULD NOT draft him, Smith didn't even want to play for NY
The sad thing is that some players likely develop chips on their shoulders due to their draft position and who was drafted ahead of them; and turn that adversity into fire. I mean, if Draymond Green was drafted 1st round, would he have so much to prove?
Kevin Love is one of my favorite players today because he wears his hard hat to work, does all the dirty work no one else likes to do, gets the job done and goes home with no complaints just the love to compete and win babe win, how can you not love someone who show's everyone what the name Love means to the game?
Yo Dom, I've always loved your videos man. But I've always wondered a what if scenario if all these draft busts weren't injured. Is there a possibility that we could've seen a Portland team with: PG - Dame Lillard SG - (healthy) Brandon Roy SF - Nick Batum PF - Lamarcus Aldridge C - (healthy) Greg Oden Bench: PG - CJ Mccollum SG - Rudy Fernandes SF - Travis Outlaw PF - Channing Frye C - Robin Lopez THAT WOULD BE INSANE RIGHT??
i'm 4 years late but if oden and roy would've stayed healthy i don't think they'd had the picks to select dame/cj + the salary would be a mess with all that talent.
still mad hawks picked Marvin Williams (ACC freshman of th year) over Chris Paul (ACC player of th year) ..and they already had Josh Smith at th same position ..the worst
Why everyone just talking about the Knicks not drafting Smith when neither did the Bulls or Magic 😂😂 lets not act like Elfrid Payton or Kris Dunn are some franchise PG's here
The Grizzlies would have drafted Harden If the They didn't trade Kevin Love. They would have Mike Conley at the 1 , Rudy Gay at the 3 , Kevin Love at the 4 , Marc Gasol at the 5 and they would be missing a shooting guard.
The thing about oden: it was a different league. It was a big man's league, most teams believed they needed a dominant center to win. Shaqs lakers and heat, duncan with the spurs, they were the main guys. Different mentality

Oden was a beast in college. He had a better college career than Durant. OSU went to the finals and Oden DOMINATED Florida's front line. A healthy Oden is a Hall of Famer. His body just betrayed him. You were better off choosing Detroit passing over Carmelo or Wade.
Clamp God The Blazers knew he was inured before they drafted him . He had a broken leg that took 2 years to heal in college and they still drafted him LOL
One thing people forget about the Harden-Grizzlies thing. If he was drafted by the Grizzlies he would've remained a great defender (see him guarding Kobe early in his career) instead of giving up on defense by watching his teammates.
i think you should give a chance to Ntilikina. Europeans cant turn to incredible players sometimes. of course there were quite a few busts in the past..
I know this is an old video but it's nice to see someone who actually knows basketball. Take klay in this vid. You recognize that him being on the warriors makes him an even better shooter. His teammates free him up for a whole lot of those open 3s. How he doesn't have the pressure on him at all to carry his team, he doesn't have to be great every single night. There are a lot of bball fans out there who don't see, think about, or even realize this stuff. It's refreshing to see a fan who knows the game, cheers.
We can discuss Greg Oden to death, but at the time he looked like an amazing prospect. Durant couldn't bench press, and Oden was a big with a freakishly athletic body. Plus he looked the type of 5 that was a dying breed (and is indeed a dead breed today) - the likes that teams would draft in the hopes they developed into a Shaq, but even if he developed into a Dight Howard it wouldn't have been so bad. It wasn't a bad choice, I wouldn't fire my GM over that choice same as I wouldn't fire him for picking Griffin over Curry. I just think the Blazers are cursed - people joke about Philly but between Oden and Roy, the Blazers have had a huge history of drafting busts, except for when they landed Lillard and McCollum (and even then, think about the fact that they passed on Antetokounmpo).
t100base I doubt melo would of had the same career he would of had to come of the bench. Darkos was really talented his potential was wasted and he lost his confidence
@taylor i heard larry brown likes to bench young players, which would have been a sin in melo's case. i wouldn't be surprised if they were in the talks, and melo turned down the idea of coming off the bench.
Charmanderplays that Portland team would have won a championship though cause Roy was amazing as a rookie lamarcus was young players they had depth and could have possibly still end up with lillard if they trade henderson they team would have been amazing
One thing that makes the Oden decision somewhat less terrible for Portland was that Oden started the season slowly because he had a hand/wrist injury, and then once the tournament came around, he was extremely dominant. He was the best player in the title game, and severely outplayed the Noah/Horford Florida frontcourt who were both lottery bound. To an extent, his college numbers were a bit misleading, and most NBA teams try to pick the guy who will have the highest ceiling. Oden's looked to be sky high, but the Blazers misread the tea leaves.
I don't think you remember how hyped Greg Oden was at the time, he took his team to a national title game as a freshman in college. He was the obvious #1 pick that year. Oden was one of the greatest prospects ever for a big man and many were calling him the next Bill Russell. Majority of teams would have taken Oden instead of Durant in that draft.
That SOB David Kahn screwed up the Wolves, once be left they got some good players in lavine, wiggins and KAT and now Butler. Finally gonna make the playoffs
Just wanted to clarify that I wasn't calling the Knicks draft pick a bust, I was just saying I think Dennis is the one that'll end up becoming a star
Dom2k why wouldnt Ntilikina? Has there ever been a player that can defend at an elite level and shoot at an elite level too while being 18 and was simply a role player? I mean combine that with his physical gifts and come on thats just a weird comparison to write off a high potential rookie this quickly

Dom2k my mavs made a good move!! 🤘
2015 Jazz drafting Trey Lyles one pick ahead of Devin Booker should be on this list.
Dom2k yo where the #31 goat
*The Grizzlies missed out on the great GAY LOVE duo on their starting lineup*
I just realised: Portland chose Oden over Durant 23 years after they chose Bowie over MJ.
Coincedence? I think not
Not to mention in both cases they were very injury prone.
What the grizzlies couldve had: Gay Love
What they got: Gay Mayo
Nitemare well Mayo was hyped more than love so ya
well, what if I'm not gay
Damn the grizzlies could have had gay love. Darn it would have been ahead of there time
Youri Kemp really? I wouldn’t know that considering my uncle drinks too much and he’s fine

Austin Rayamajhi kristaps is better than top 7 he's probably number 3 or 4
Coop 55 probably 6...Davis, Love, Aldridge, Green, Millsap, Griffin are all better
What the fuck is a 3-5 year project, and does top 7 really mean anything. (Btw definitely not saying hes a bad player, just curious...)
Andre Bailey Facts, we all know know since I'm 1 he s at least 7.
THANK YOU everyone is already saying the knicks made a horrible move. NEITHER HAVE PLAYED A MINUTE IN THE NBA YET LET THEM PLAY. Ntilikina will be fine.
I fully believe that if Durant listed himself at 7 feet that he would have been the number 1 pick.
The Crooked Man-He really should've since he actually is 7ft tall.
He wasn't then I think. He grew a bit
Hes 6'11" with an 8 foot wing span. I doubt an inch would have made a difference
@@kylecupp9649 but he was listed at 6'9
Stro Homik he was the same height but he lied about it because he didn’t want to play like a normal big

Wolves drafted Rubio and Jonny Flynn over Curry 😂😂
Adam Leon Rubio was understandable but Flynn just makes no sense
Adam Leon curry didn't work out with the t-wolves tho
Eamon Cassels you meant wouldn't have worked out and how? The thing the wolves struggle with rn is their lack of 3 point shooting.
Asher Andrew no he means the predraft workout
Rubio is actually a better pure PG than steph and is a better defender . But that shot for curry is just historical and Rubio is the complete opposite with barely a shot

That’s the reason they traded him they didn’t need to hear gay love everytime someone read out they’re starting 5

He wasn’t a bust obviously just injuries SERIOUSLY derailed his career kinda like Andrew Bynum

The Trail Blazers suck at drafting. They failed to draft Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant.
Timberwolves select derrick williams 2nd overall 2011 over kawhi, jimmy butler, isaiah thomas.
Luke Kim every single team but the Kings on the draft passed on Isaiah bro, he was the 60th pick man
