  • Finally got a chance to finish editing this project that took a couple days to film due to my busy schedule. Finally its done and i love this mod!! Turbo sounds pretty much the same, but without a wrap it might be a little louder. I love how it looks, gives me 7.3 engine bay a look that nobody has i dont think.

Saw your video right as I was wrapping up the editing for my next one. Looks like yours turned out petty nice. The wrapped looks definitely started growing on me by the end. I myself might even wrap the cold side to keep the symmetry. Couldn't hurt having a little insulation on it too. Now you got me questioning whether or not I want to color mine or wrap it haha. That was a nice call on the eraser wheel by the way! I appreciate the shout out and am glad I could give some helpful advice.

You got it :) let’s get you to 1,000 subs! And yea I might do cold side too, but I’m not sure yet, maybe when I’ll be cleaning the other side. Baby steps here with my crazy night shift job lol

FixItNick hahaha I feel your pain. I always tell myself that I am getting close to finishing the build and then the more I think about it the project keep popping up! It’s never ending I swear!
I happen have a second set up brand new 17+ mirrors that you might be interested in. Same ones as what I put on my truck. Which I absolutely love! Do you happen to have power mirrors already or manual?

Living On Wheels yup have power mirrors, but not ready for mirrors yet, maybe in couple months not sure yet. I like the older square tow mirrors without the angle cut on the corner, did you have to do lots of requiring?

Nice work. That looks much better than the foil. The intercooler pipes don't really get that hot. From what I was told....the foil was there mainly to keep the turbo whine down. I did mine last year...what mess! Mine did not come off as clean as yours. Most of the insulation was still stuck to the pipe when I removed the foil so the wire wheel flung it everywhere. I actually like the turbo whine so I just had mine powdercoated. Good video...thanks for posting.

I did mine for extra insulation, I left the original on for more insulation. Just rolled and smoothed the factory one covered it with carbon looks great and no heat transfer.

Hi Nick, the wrap looks great and a lot better than the foil. We'll done mentioning Joe's channel he has some great tips 😉 I'm in a ♿ too so I really appreciate his situation. I went to the NEC in Birmingham UK at the weekend and met another u tuber from the USA definitely fired me up to get a video out there. 😉 See you soon Nick 👍

I keep the pipe bare, I didn't notice much of a change in temperature and the foil seemed like it was just collecting a lot of dirt and debris. Definitely hear the air from turbo circulating more loudly with the pipe being clean.

Great name for the mod “Chipotle Burrito Delete Mod” I laughed for a couple minutes!
Joe from “Living On Wheels” does some great 7.3 work on his channel, as does your channel!
Even tho I have a 6.0 I still find ideas that I can do to my truck. So, I would recommend checking out & subscribing to his channel as well!

If you do this, BE CAREFUL: that foil is SHARP. As far as the wrap goes, the temperature difference is minimal. The main reason was to dampen noise. Fun fact: the 7.3 was discontinued mainly due to its inability to pass California’s noise emission ordinance. Emissions played a part, but weren’t the main reason.

I would have left all the wire wheel stuff on so it gives the wrap something to grip on and not allow to slide at all when it stretchers over time.

Looks really good. Seen bith you and Living On Wheels do this and will be tackling this job in the bear future. The wrap i got for it says it doesn't require soaking in water, but I'm gonnado it anyway because like you said, it'll get tighter as it dries and that seems to me like a good thing.

Nick I have two points to make looking in your engine compartment. One your new air filter is a downgrade from a cold air intake. See life on wheels. 2, i've done the same rap but I applied some heat transfer knowledge. After wrapping with the insulation I painted the wrap with black high temp silicon. This simple mod should allow the heat to transfer out of the duct more efficiently before it reaches the intercooler. NextI wrapped the intercooler exit tucked in the same fashion but painted it silver to reflect heat. My Theory is to keep the air as cool as possible prior to entering the engine. Cooler air is more dense containing more oxygen. It seems to have helped my truck quite a bit. I also run of AFE intake spider again to keep the intake air temperature down. Just sharing my experience, love your videos.

Diesels are not like gas motors. They do not mind hot air whatsoever. I have a 6637 for 10yrs now. Made no difference on iat temps 147° in summer in south fla. Turbo makes temps much hotter. By 100° or more..

    • @JL-rh6os
      @JL-rh6os 5 місяців тому

Hot air isn’t good for any internal combustion engine. You want colder air as it is more dense allowing more oxygen into the combustion chamber. The more cold Dense air and fuel we can pack in (keeping the correct afr), the more efficient, powerful combustion event. Hope that helps.
