This is a good install video. I like how you go over details that come up in the process and try to include stuff that may have been missed. Great video Cody!!!
Need to grab some coffee for this one haha. I'll probably update this comment as the video goes. Edit 1: Gotta love how much easier you can make it look on camera hahaha Edit 2: it killed my OCD watching you put it all back in without cleaning the valley hahaha Edit 3: those Riff Raff boots are super high quality but SOOOO much harder to work with. Edit 4: Like I said below, I had to shave down my intake spyder just a little bit to get my pusher intake to fit correctly with the plenum inserts. Edit 5: That KC intake is also super high quality and also very tight and tricky to install. It was really tricky to get mine lined up with the factory bracket in CCV adapter. Edit 6: As far as defueling goes, you probably wont be able to feel it. the truck just pulls enough fuel to not push past 25 psi. I believe you need custom tuning on the hydra to override the 25 psi limit. Edit 7: We've already talked about most of the other details with injectors and what not haha. The real question is, how do you like the sound of it??? I absolutely love the sound of mine with the windows down!!!
Thanks for all the info bro!! I love how it sounds! It made the trick sound more like a 6.0 IMO. I’ll be taking the 10” tip off my straight pipe and making a comparison video with and without the tip. I CAN’T WAIT to hear it without the tip and hear all that turbo whistle!
tommy Jones I’m pretty happy with it! The stock turbo was getting turbo surge and probably wouldn’t have lasted much longer. Lol The KC300 still only seems to be hitting 25 psi like the stock one was but no more turbo surge! And you can definitely feel the difference more when accelerating and driving around town normally.
I did everything the same as far as pusher intakeand had to shave it down as well! but with a stock turbo, wicked wheel and a high flow outlet. I build about 27 psi with ease with a banks big head wastegate... also a fuel rail crossover with the 60 ish psi spring.
We appreciate the videos, but as strongly think you have issues with injectors / hpop. I would strongly turn on important PIDs on the edge like ICP & IPR % and doing some monitoring with data logs. If you fuel system and oil system are not running correctly that will in turn cause loss of power. If you are not maintaining close to 3000psi then you are loosing power and having a weak system. The pcm can only read 25psi and you are most likely seeing more then that, a stock truck with a healthy system can produce upwards of 28+. Immediately can tell you have a California truck from the glow plug module which has a "detuned" system with less power. Keep in mind 25psi with a smaller stock turbo compared to 25psi on larger turbo is a lot different with volume of air.
That makes sense about the 25psi being different with the volume of air goin in the new turbo. And I’ll definitely start checking out some of that stuff. Overall I’m very happy with the results and I’m sure I can get more out of it when I figure out what else is going on!
I've done the same job with basically the same parts and I feel your pain. I had to cut two of my up pipe bolts as the nut was rusted on (and I'm in Texas). So many little things fight you along the way, but the payoff is so worth it in the end.
Installing my 330x along with a ton of other stuff today. Cats paw in hand. Thanks for the tip and taking the time to shoot, edit and post this vid. God bless.
The best thing I ever did was trade my K&N system for an aFe Pro Dry S system. Its worth the money and was perfect for when I upgraded to the GTP-38R. One thing we have in common is our disdain for the factory Garrett that came on the truck, great turbo upgrade and great video man!
Finally installed my kc300 63/68. Man.. That up-pipe collector on the back of the turbo is no joke. I spent 6 hours just getting that 1 v-band clamp on there. At the 5 hour mark, I had to quit for the day and hit it the next morning to calm myself down I was so fired up failing over and over again. ha ha
It is a machine only for work the 7.3 is a pass I do not change to any engine other than 7.3 liters only that it is true that we have to improve so that this updated is impressive this engine
Years ago when i first got my stock 7.3 you inspired to do ALL of this myself. I now have every component. Thank you. I too would like an update video if you find time. Perhaps with lessons learned and things you would do differently.
Maybe a bit late, maybe someone said this, but your edge reads off of the obd2 port, and unless you installed a second pressure sensor (pre MAP) you're reading the MAP sensor pressure on the gauge, not the true boost psi#. The boost fooler, (I run riffraffs) is designed to "fool the MAP circuit to read 20_21psi to prevent CELs and de-fueling issues. I ran a second (pre MAP) Pressure sensor and labeled it as pre MAP on my edge and the difference in the two pressures will show you exactly what you're feeding the engine as opposed to only what you're feeding the MAP and computer. This will become even more necessary to know as you add more big blow accessories. Strong work on the videos btw. Keep up the good work and hope that helps.
Great video man, watching from Australia. I like how you took the time to explain everything where you could, including where you ran into issues and your solutions. I'm going to be doing pretty much the same upgrades on my '05 Brazil built, Australian delivered 250 XLT crew cab in the next month or so. My factory turbo case & impeller is worn, up-pipes are leaking, not badly but when I bought the rig about 3 years ago it felt way down on power. I found a hole worn in the cold side intercooler pipe from where it was misaligned and rubbing on the top of the power steering pump. It was easy enough to make a plug and weld up the hole. I also found a leak in the fuel line on the left bank in the valley, so swapped the, both out with high pressure braided flexi lines and deleted the fuel filters in the back of the heads (check valves) which made a huge difference. I built my own exhaust system using the OE pipes but fitted a high flow muffler and side dump which made a big improvement, but it's still lacking in power compared to a mates mostly stock 7.3. He's got about 1/2 the miles and only swapped out his exhaust for a custom 5" system and running a Hydra, but I think just replacing the up pipes should liven the big girl up and adding the KC300x turbo & Hydra should really wake mine up. I'm not so worried about doing mine after seeing your video,,, great work. My OCD is really hoping that you got rid of all that grime from the valley before you called it done though?
@@camsherro3097 yeah I had the same hole in my intercooler pipe too and have a video finding it and another video replacing it. Haha. And I understand the OCD but I didn’t clean it completely because these truck love to leak so it’s probably just going to get nasty again 😂
Hey dude just came across your channel, I’m doing the up pipes right now and could not for the life of me get that damn collector clamp off. I had the same issue with my turbo not spooling all the way, I replaced my map sensor and back pressure sensor and tube. Big difference. Great channel. I have a 02 excursion..
Interesting!! I change the exhaust back pressure sensor and tube like 1 1/2 year ago, but maybe it’s time to do it again and I’ll look into the map sensor. Thanks bro!🤘🏻
Thanks bro! I’m sure you’ll be happy either way. Part of me wishes I tried the wicked wheel in the stock turbo first, and then installed the kc300 later to compare them.
I just rebuilt my turbo and I was able to get the collector clamp off with a slide hammer, I hooked he little hook that comes with the hammer and hit it and it broke it lose and them the REAL pain was putting that clamp back on!! OH BOY!! Other than that everything else is easy and quick! Main tools you are con a need is a 10mm for the pedestal bolts, 8mm for some of the clamps and 11mm for the colector clamp and he CAC boots as well as a 13mm for the 2 bolts holding the turbo in place, and some extensions You can defínelo get to the passenger side up pipe bolts from under it it just takes a little time, all I used was a 13mm deep socket and a 3/8 ratchet and a 10mm wrench to hold the head of the bolt and it comes right off
With these improvements, the 7.3 is reborn, my ford f350 I have been working for 5 years loading only between trailer and load a 26 pounds only from the trailer and load is a beast and no problem my transmission and my engine everything is factory but I already have it An improvement like that, I'm over 35 pounds between a trailer truck and a load, I stretch a mini 5 car only that it comes out a little slow but when I get up to run
Good content, I'm removing my turbo tmrw and just doing new pedstal o rings, a billet wheel and turbo rebuild. Hopfully it goes smoothly. I have my whole tool box here till Monday so pretty nice having all your tools at your disposal
You are the reason I want to build my 99 and this video will help me out when I am able to since I cant because I'm 17 and my dad wont let me do anything to my truck
You seem like a really nice guy and pretty knowledgeable. You explain what your doing and make it seem easy. I have no plan to do this to my 02 ps but watched all the to the end. Great job!
To get the spider on with the riffraff boots you have to put the spider on the boots and lean on top of the spider and put pressure on it pushing down and it goes right on!
Tips for the viewers is PB Blaster EVERYTHING!!! Bolt's, clamps, etc.... I think the turbo hitting 25psi is good considering you are turning those huge arsh wheels. My KC turbo on my dually will hit 26-27psi pretty easy and spools up really fast but again I'm not running a huge tire, also might want to clean or replace the air filter. Great video, you are probably the first youtube guy to have a in depth video on up pipes GREAT JOB, Also try some different tunes and see what kinda of boost you can get, you might be maxed out on the tune you are running
Yes! I remember you told me the same thing, but I only did the bottom bolts on the down pipes 😂😂😂 and yeah I might look into a custom tune for my hydra. I already run the 140hp extreme tune but maybe I need a custom one that’s more tuned towards a bigger turbo🤘🏻
Nice work. You should make a 0-60mph comparison like you did when you installed the old tuner. Let's see how much quicker you get there with the new turbo, ped, up-pipes and boots.
Honestly I couldn’t do it with the stock turbo cuz I still don’t have my trac bars! Ordered some about 12 weeks ago. But once I install those at least I can do a 0-60 with the new turbo. Until then the axle wrap is to harsh for 0-60s
I just got done doing the same thing minus the KC turbo. That’s on my future list. Lol Definitely not an easy job by yourself. But doable. I ended up having to cut my up-pipe bolts. The joys of living in the Midwest. 🤣

Great job with camera work and instructional details! You’ve learned so much bro. Are you sore from working on it? My body is always sore from removing my turbo!!! Thanks for sharing your time as always.
I would recommend fooler. Also after you drive for a week, retighten all hardware. From my experience something always comes loose. Also after I upgraded my turbo, at highway speeds, I noticed my MPH were higher then before at a slightly lower RPM. My turbo definitely helped my top end.
Haha yes I was sore for 2 days 😂 and heck yeah snap-on let’s do it!!🙌🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 I think my edge is showing higher mpg too bro. I noticed quite the difference already! Also, the KC turbo doesn’t get turbo surge like the stock one was. All in all it’s way better and I can see, hear, and feel the difference🤘🏻
80HD Projects just put my truck to test on all my mods. Took it from my house in SD to June lake near mammoth for week long camping trip. Did great. My mpg was around 18 with my load. No reception up there so that’s why I’m a week late watching your upload. But back to the grind working now!! You could also check out replacing your banjo bolts (riffraff). I never dealt with surge on my OBS. May help with fueling smoother and will definitely help when you upgrade injectors eventually. Only other recommendation is custom tunes which match what you’ve done thus far. It will unify the running of your whole truck from tires to turbo. Have a great week
Oh nice bro. Yeah I think custom tunes would help. I’m wondering if I’ll be able to do injectors after all because I don’t know if I’ll be able to run a stock tune and pass smog with upgrades injectors 🤔
One of the best videos depicting what a PAIN IN THE ASS it is to do by yourself. Nothing about this is going to be easy. But it has to be done. Thank you for mentally preparing me for it. And the supplied KC Turbo boot is a truly a piece of crap to get on. Ran mine backwards. The other end would not stay on, even after trimming and clamping.
Joe Pyles not sure yet. But I do plan on keeping all the stock parts for awhile just Incase. I always keep the stock parts for awhile in case I need to switch back.

Great video man! I’d like to do this to my 7.3 excursion soon. I seen the link you shared for the KC turbo. Can you please share the link for the other pieces? Like the boots, bolt kits, pedestal, etc....Thanks
When I did my turbo I was able to put the riffraff boots on my plenum all you do it put the spider and the boots on and before you tighten those clamps you have to tighten the one holding the spider to the turbo
About your max 25psi you’d have to add a manual boost gauge into your AIH delete plug and get a boost fuller. You could be pushing upwards to 30 maybe more with your setup
Thank you for showing the intake boot install! Looks like i'll be removing that bracket now as it looks so much better. I noticed you angled the boot to where the little plug where the green line goes into downward at about a 45 degree angle. I have mine where it it perfectly level horizontally. Did you feel you got a much better fit by putting the boot at that angle? I currently can't do that with the bracket in the way...... If you're pulling boost numbers from the OBD2 port then you won't ever see higher then 25 on the screen. This is due to the MAP sensor not being able to read higher then 25 even if you're making more boost. Only way to get the true number is with a physical gauge with a line running to the y-pipe..... If you're on a stock tune the truck will defuel with those boost numbers and will need a boost fooler. If you run any of the generic hydra tunes they turn defuel off and won't need a boost fooler.... The boost fooler will limit the boost to 23 on the MAP sensor so it doesn't defuel even though you're really making more. Only time I can see the need for one is like in my case where my transmission is weak and can't really handle any of the hydra tunes so I run the stock setting a lot but due to my boost numbers it defuels. Other then that you shouldn't need one. Checking and making sure there is no boost leaks would yield more promising results. Edit: Also I noticed you left your red line out there in the open. Boost is still flowing through that line. You need to cap it, atleast run some tape around it. Typically most still have the rubber boot that goes over it and just plug it on a screw or one of the clamp threads..... You could also just completely remove the red and green lines and put a cap on the y-pipe connection and the intake boot connection.
Horizon AI I just put the intake boot at that angle because my air intake lined up best with the boot at that angle. But that’s the only reason. As far as the hydra, I run a 140hp performance tune so I’m sure it should work as a boost fooler. Now that I’ve driven the truck more, I’m more confident that the truck is NOT defueling like I thought. And yeah I need to cap the red line. Wasn’t sure about the green one. I forgot what the green one does. Can you fill me in? Lol Maybe I will just cap both. Thanks for the info!
@@NoHalfAss If the runs you were showing was with the 140 tune then you might have a small leak. Most likely the red line but could also be the factory boots you left on. I have also seen people leak from the temp sensor on the Y-pipe. On a lite fuel sipper 40hp tune my gauge goes from 0-25 almost instantly on a hard acceleration, it doesn't gradually get there. I get my numbers from the OBD2 port too. But some things to consider are the weather, and that you have 40's on a big lift with stock gears. I find with my truck on 95+ days its a little more sluggish then later on in the night when the temp starts to drop, its noticeable. I think 4:10's or 4:30's is what is considered ideal for 40's..... I'm not really sure what the green line does, I think it just measures the air input from the intake....... I know you talked about injectors but I decided to keep stock injectors when I put new ones in because you can't run a stock tune with any of the bigger injectors. Something to think about with California and their BS if you ever need to run a stock tune for smog.
Horizon AI dang really! Maybe I should consider rehearing over upgrading injectors cuz I do need to smog my truck here in California. I’m glad you said that!! Thank you. And I’ll check some of those potential leaks you mentioned. Also I found out I just need to shave the turbo spyder where it goes in the plenum boots and I’ll be able to use the riffraff ones. I didn’t know that I needed to shave the spyder after adding the plenum inserts.
@@NoHalfAss I'd try the install again but with both boots on the pendulums first. That's how I've always done it. Never had an issue. I recently upgraded to an AVP intake system basically the same thing as the pusher and didn't have any issues on the install. I also have new boots. Only thing I don't have is the pendulum inserts but for the stock pipe you shouldn't really need to grind it. But if all else fails grind away.
My 02 is leaking bad. I confirmed it's not the rear main seal. Got to be o rings and possibly valve covers. But the drip gets bad the warmer the truck gets long drive and if I turn up tuner it seems to get worst. So I'm assuming more turbo boost and making o rings leak more,. Any opinions would be great. Thanks and great video,I'm saving it to watch when I do job.

Looking forward to what u have to say
Thanks for all the info bro!! I love how it sounds! It made the trick sound more like a 6.0 IMO. I’ll be taking the 10” tip off my straight pipe and making a comparison video with and without the tip. I CAN’T WAIT to hear it without the tip and hear all that turbo whistle!
Finally got it in...hellyeah...need to know how you really feel bout the kc300.r u impressed.
tommy Jones I’m pretty happy with it! The stock turbo was getting turbo surge and probably wouldn’t have lasted much longer. Lol
The KC300 still only seems to be hitting 25 psi like the stock one was but no more turbo surge!
Mine will snap 30psi no problem but I ues a after market boost gauge and boost fooler.
@@brandonanderson6843 lol gonna melt some shit 😂
You just inspired me to upgrade my turbo on my 7.3 2001 F250
Hahaha NICE!!🤘🏻🔥💯
I'm going to do it on 2 vans, thanks for the inspiration 👍
I always thought it was funny how comfortable concert is when you’re under a vehicle. This truck is turning out awesome my man
Hahaha 😂 thank you bro🤘🏻
Finally installed my kc300 63/68. Man.. That up-pipe collector on the back of the turbo is no joke. I spent 6 hours just getting that 1 v-band clamp on there. At the 5 hour mark, I had to quit for the day and hit it the next morning to calm myself down I was so fired up failing over and over again. ha ha
I know what you mean bud!! It was a pain, but I think it’s worth it!!
The truck looks absolutely amazing I’m planning on putting a new turbo in my 7.3
It is a machine only for work the 7.3 is a pass I do not change to any engine other than 7.3 liters only that it is true that we have to improve so that this updated is impressive this engine
?
Years ago when i first got my stock 7.3 you inspired to do ALL of this myself. I now have every component. Thank you. I too would like an update video if you find time. Perhaps with lessons learned and things you would do differently.
That’s awesome bro! Glad my videos helped and inspired you!
Saw your trick with the cats paw and found something similar in my garage and bam, got it off. I appreciate your approach to tackling these things yourself, definitely boosted my confidence doing the same items.
That’s awesome bro!!! I’m glad my video helped!
This truck.... This truck... All the love you put in to it .. it's really getting amazing.. nice job Cody..
I always enjoy the "Paaaaaau" sound from the discharge
YENKOGT thank you bud!🙌🏻 I love that sound too!!!💯
Great video. I plan on doing everything you just did relatively soon on my 99. I'm a mechanic myself, but videos like yours are incredibly helpful
That’s awesome man I’m glad my videos help you!!!
Dude! So sick congrats brother easily one of my favorite Powerstroke builds!
Thank you!!!🙌🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You have the best videos for 7.3 DIY.
🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thanks bro I did my kc300x my self cuz your video my shit lined up perfect did the same exact up pipes and everything thanks bro you were a huge Inspiration and help brother ! Amen
Really appreciate you taking the time to explain and show each step. Quality work. Ready to do my 01.
Glad you enjoyed the video and glad I could help bro!
at 17:24, It looks like there is a hole in your trans oil pan, that could be why your temp was so high in the video of you testing the turbo. Idk if you found the issue yet
Custom tuning will do wonders for you.
I think you’re right bro🤘🏻💯
I got custom tunes from 1023 and I can’t believe the difference! Stock hydra tunes suck!
John Taylor good to know!! Thanks!
Loved watching the video. I don’t have a truck but really enjoyed the process you went through getting the job done.
@@NoHalfAss welcome. Clean truck man. I keep going back and forth on the KC turbo, I added a wicked wheel 2 in my it's a nice difference.
Thanks bro! I’m sure you’ll be happy either way. Part of me wishes I tried the wicked wheel in the stock turbo first, and then installed the kc300 later to compare them.
Love watching your build! I have an 01 F-250 that I am currently working on. Killer truck brother!
Nice bro!! And thank you🤘🏻
You took a lot of extra time to make this video. Great job! Appreciate you!
Thank you bud!!!
I just rebuilt my turbo and I was able to get the collector clamp off with a slide hammer, I hooked he little hook that comes with the hammer and hit it and it broke it lose and them the REAL pain was putting that clamp back on!! OH BOY!! Other than that everything else is easy and quick!
Main tools you are con a need is a 10mm for the pedestal bolts, 8mm for some of the clamps and 11mm for the colector clamp and he CAC boots as well as a 13mm for the 2 bolts holding the turbo in place, and some extensions
You can defínelo get to the passenger side up pipe bolts from under it it just takes a little time, all I used was a 13mm deep socket and a 3/8 ratchet and a 10mm wrench to hold the head of the bolt and it comes right off
Nice bro!! Yeah It definitely takes patience, and the right tools help a lot!!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
80HD Projects definitely!!
Nice bro and thank you! Yeah, having the right tools close by can make your life so much easier!!
Where did you get your up pipes and delete kit??? Mine up pipes are shit
@@coltonmartin497 the up pipes came from BD Diesel. Pretty much everything else in the video came from riffraff.com 🤘🏻

Thanks for such a thorough video covering all section of this turbo install, great job!! Subscribed!
Not a big UA-camr but your videos are great. Truck looks amazing dude keep working.

I did the same turbo and pedistall up grade to my truck. You will love that combo.
🤘🏻🔥💯
Doing this exact swap on my 97 7.3 right now.
You are the reason I want to build my 99 and this video will help me out when I am able to since I cant because I'm 17 and my dad wont let me do anything to my truck

Thank you!!! That means a lot🙌🏻
Outstanding my bro!! Very detailed and good stuff!! Thanks for the posting!! Look forward to the updates!!
Thank you bro!🙌🏻
You seem like a really nice guy and pretty knowledgeable. You explain what your doing and make it seem easy. I have no plan to do this to my 02 ps but watched all the to the end. Great job!
Mike Mattox thank you bud!!🙌🏻🙏🏻
Dude what an amazing ass video thank you for going back and like explaining the details even the small ones really helped me out
I’m glad it helped bro!!!!
To get the spider on with the riffraff boots you have to put the spider on the boots and lean on top of the spider and put pressure on it pushing down and it goes right on!
Great Video! Best one I've seen. can't believe that Collector and up pipes were so loose and came apart like that, I think mine are bad also
I’ve seen quite a few other video that were the same so it not super uncommon
Dope! Putting this on my 7.3 as well with injectors and all new pipes all around and the irate full fuel system!

Was a very thorough video good job, bro
@@marcrandell6680 thanks man! Glad you enjoyed it!
Love the truck man. I watch all of your vids as they drop.
FIGHTINGFOR1787 thank you bro!!🙌🏻 I’m glad you enjoy them🤘🏻💯
I just got done doing the same thing minus the KC turbo. That’s on my future list. Lol Definitely not an easy job by yourself. But doable. I ended up having to cut my up-pipe bolts. The joys of living in the Midwest. 🤣
Hahaha yeah I was soooo close to cutting mine too, but I barely ended up getting it🤘🏻
sub and liked. excellent video and thanks for recording and talking, its not easy. Also, even if it seems easy/stupid to you, the smallest issue can stop another person in their tracks so i appreciate all the little commentary as you go.
Glad you enjoyed it!🙌🏻
very underrated. love the build
Thank you!!!!
I enjoyed watching this video, this project is on my wish list

Very nice man.
I want to put one on mine too. Thank for showing the install. Keep up the good work.
Thank you bro! Glad you enjoyed it!🤘🏻
Great job with camera work and instructional details! You’ve learned so much bro. Are you sore from working on it? My body is always sore from removing my turbo!!! Thanks for sharing your time as always.
Message to “Snap On tools”, Cody needs a sponsor and some metric tools!
It really did suck!😂😂
Thank you for your videos, no problem following as you accomplish the tasks.
Awesome!! Glad to hear it🙌🏻

What are you doing with your old turbo?
Joe Pyles not sure yet. But I do plan on keeping all the stock parts for awhile just Incase. I always keep the stock parts for awhile in case I need to switch back.

Man when i had my 7.3 couple years ago and upgraded the turbo with bigger wastegate, hotside of the turbo and the other inner components it took me 4 hours to do, the down and upside clamps were a paaaaiiin plus i was in humid part of central Texas 😅 but i super jelly of how your 7.3 is turning out man, been a minute since i replied to a video

It turns out it was the plenum inserts that raised the spyder. The spyder needs to be trimmed down for everything to fit with the plenum inserts.
Really thinking of upgrading to a kc300 trucks badass man keep the vids coming 👍
Hell yeah bro!🤘🏻 and thank you🙌🏻
About your max 25psi you’d have to add a manual boost gauge into your AIH delete plug and get a boost fuller. You could be pushing upwards to 30 maybe more with your setup
That’s good to know! I’ll be looking into doin that ASAP for sure! Thanks for the info!🙌🏻
Nice job! good detailed video.
Thank you!
Thanks for all the info
Edit:
Also I noticed you left your red line out there in the open.
Lol
Maybe I will just cap both.
Great vid. Hoping to put my KC300x on this week/weekend
