Alot of people thought, and may still today. He didn’t want to apologize, fearing it would hurt if he did get a retrial. He’d being admitting guilt. Though we know nothing is absolute. I feel he has 1% chance for one!!!!

I've never hated a a stranger until I stumbled upon Darrell Brooks. Rolling his eyes, sarcastically clapping his hands, mockingly patting his heart while the victims were speaking, all of that really got to me yesterday. I actually felt legitimate hate for this guy after that.

I did the same for a few minutes until I thought about something my Mom has always told me and that is : don't ever hate, it will eat YOU alive while the object of your hate most likely isn't even aware of it or doesn't care and, it is so negative it will drain your energy so you aren't able to carry on with positivity. So very true.

Respectfully she doesn't get a day. She took what should have been a moment for the family's to hopefully get some closure and turned it into a spectacle where she made herself and her bickering with Brooks the centerpiece instead of the victims. I know a lot of people disagree and I respect that reasonable people can disagree, but to my eyes it was "HER DAY" and it really had no business being that way. To me it was incredibly selfish and disrespectful towards the victims and their loved ones.

@@n7honeybadger103 I hear ya'! You have a right to your opinion. With respect, I think that Judge Dorow managed this whole grueling trial like nobody's business. I do think there was a little too much talk on her part at times and had I been her I would have jumped over the desk to slap that man right in the face, but she held on to being the most professional, most patient, most gracious, most cunning judge I know. Equally as great, were: Susan Opper, Zach, and Leslie and the team. I was literally screaming at the TV every time that Brooks opened his mouth. The frustration and agony those poor people had to endure was terrible. Yep, Judge Dorow, after it was all said and done, was very cunning--maybe coddled a little too much--but very shrewd and used the law at every turn! Thanks to her and to the state prosecution team, the day was for the surviving victims and families! That's how I see it!

I loved that. Runkle said he hates when judges do that just sentence already. But she put up with his antics for weeks, it was the dB show for weeks. She put the victims and their impact statements front and center and confronted him once again with the truth. You could've stopped you could've left the parade at all these places. You didn't have to do this. Basically saying your defense or lack of doesn't matter your antics in court don't matter. He is no longer able to be in the spotlight and be the super awesome lawyer. Now all he can do is sit there and wait for the sentences. He knows that he is never going to be in control of anything again. all his rights, factual and fictitious are gone. If I'm mentally exhausted, I can only imagine how the judge and the prosecution team and everyone else must feel. This has been one emotionally draining trial! My question to you is if any monies that come in for Brooks while in prison and I understand it goes in escrow, 50% goes to the fines. Since he has no money, it seems apparent his mother could put money into an account so that he can buy the necessities and for snacks. Needless to say he basically got 1,000 years. Brooks did not disappoint, he acted up for the last time in this case and his main focus again was all about him! I liked that he spoke about Christ and mentioned his salvation but he suddenly changed back into Mr. Hyde! I'm so glad this trial is over. Judge Dorow rocked and rolled! Thanks for all that you do.

As for any money he earns for prison work and his canteen account, 50% of those funds will be taken for restitution, court costs, and fines. That means that if his mother puts money into his account, the Department of Corrections will take 50% as per the court order.

@@llharris4837 Yes, that's so evident in his closing arguments, he spoke for 2 hours and it was basically all about him. I like the fact though that he is a believer in Christ. And no one is void of redemption and there's not one of us who is perfect, but his choices in life caused havoc and pain for others and really for himself. But the fact that Brooks has accepted Christ into his heart tells us thst it is the best choice he has ever made. However, he's facing yet another court case. I think three more. I agree with you that representing himself gave him more of a voice but as we can see he lost. And I agree with the judge that he is intelligent. I think had he chosen a different path in life he could have made something of himself. Also, the fact that he mentioned Christ so much and had his Bible by him would have at least indicated to me that he would be truly sorry for what he did and focus more on the victims, who, by the way. expressed there Christian faith throughout their impact statements; unlike any impact statements I ever heard before from other court cases. Nevertheless. he spoke more about himself and his upbringing and his woes and his reasons for his becoming the person that he is. This has been sad, enlightening, and very interesting case to me. Brooks may have a purpose from God to help other inmates or he may become even more angry, who knows. It's all about free will and choice. I'm sure he's going to voice his opinion one way or another there.

I am part of the mental health field and this is a common way for narcissist’s to try to defend their actions and to obtain sympathy from anyone who will listen. He is incapable of making an apology without a reason for his bad behavior. Just like people spoke about what he had done, all he had to do was stop! Give an apology and STOP TALKING! He also had to mention that he did not feel like he was able to present his side. I heard so much of his voice during the trial and all the excuses that he became so repetitive. That was very evident in his speech at the sentencing. I would like to know, if he has apologized can he still possibly get an appeal? I can’t imagine there would be any grounds for an appeal but with the way our judicial system works sometimes, or doesn’t work. Finally Darrell Brooks mother and grandmother both spoke about the issues with getting help for psychiatric disorders. They saw the issues with DB at a very early age. I’m not sure what his grandmother’s Doctorate is in but she used the lack of mental health available to the public as her excuse as to why her grandson is now in this position. Where were the mother and grandmother when he was 4 ( I think his mother said that’s when she saw signs) why did she not make that issue first in her life to get him help so he could live a productive life. Now I don’t know what the underlying story is and I probably never will but I can see she dropped the ball. She didn’t even accept responsibility for her part in this situation! So sad

You BEG your loved one to voluntarily commit and if they don’t comply, you compel or bribe or coerce them to. It’s HARD but you do it because it’s what they need. I know a lot of people believe she was dumb for even agreeing to meet back up with her, but if you've never been in an abusive relationship it's hard to understand the mindset of the victim.
Unfortunately I'm currently dealing with a similar situation. I'm getting to the point where I want to runaway and start over in a completely different state because everything I've tried hasn't been successful and my mental health is getting worse and worse.
I'm not looking for sympathy but just want others to understand it's not as simple as you may think to get away. Especially when you don't have a support system. Abusers don't show their true colors right away and by the time they do it feels too late or you're in too deep. I've been tracked down, locked in closets, had my phone broken/taken away and so much more.

You're in a state of awareness right now that can make everything seem worse than it's been, because now you know there's other possibilities. You can make it through! You're stronger and more capable than you know right now!
The only advice I will give you is: BE CAREFUL. Especially when it comes to actually leaving - that's when the other person is most likely to do something unpredictable.
I was married to my abuser for ten years and knew I should leave at around year five; it still took another four to start making plans. I got out 4.5 years ago and haven't spoken to him since that day (by design).
It is absolutely hard. But it's also very worth it. ❤🍍

@@PFMediaServices has your abuser recently attempted to contact you? I've been told that they never give up trying to assert control over their victims

@@dutchmandave6605 Thanks for asking. He tried a couple times, but I did everything I could to keep him as far from me as possible. Haven't spoken to him directly since the day I left. ✌️🍍

Please Please. When you do finally leave. Just do it. Don't tell him your leaving. If you tell him that can become deadly for you. 🙏🙏💪💪

“Did not split the baby…” this made me smile. She used wisdom as great as Solomon’s.
