It really do be 12:30 am and I am lying on my bed sweating up a storm in this humid ass Australian weather while watching this random and oddly satisfying knife restoration video lmao I love UA-cam
Usually I watch these kinda videos to put me to sleep at night. They have a quality and value greater than ASMR. Sometimes I watch them during the day like now and they inspire me to get to work.
I’d love to see a red fabric handle with a dragon or flower pattern using clear epoxy. That would be beautiful. Have u ever considered engraving your name on the handle? U may not have forged the blade but u did restore it and created the handle.
@ Loli4lyf - Is it a sword tho? The description says knife? I’m not saying that he should engrave the blade or knock off any maker’s mark, just add his name to the part of the knife that he created, the handle. It’s his artwork and it wouldn’t seem right to attribute credit for it to the person who originally forged the blade.
@@pipebombpete.6861 would have to agree. Thats like some Toys R Us sword tryinf ro look as Japanese as possible so the kids friends dont think hes a pirate on Holloween
Honestly, so impressed by the consistency of your work and how well kept your hands are. Like they are pretty much flawless even though they have been exposed to so much chemicals
Huh. I never once in my life thought I'd see fabric get turned into wood. That was insanely clever! And with the resin getting into the fibers of the fabric you know it's going to be durable and last a while. Awesome idea!
@@alexbruce7984 We're all watching a knife restoration video. Micarta has been around over 100 years. Did you really think that somehow you were the only person on here who had ever heard of it? Really?
The handle he made is made of ″SILK BELTS". From what I saw, it was a high-grade OBI belt with gold and silver threads. In modern Japan, Kimono, which has few wearers, may be a luxury material that can be obtained at a low price. I'm taking off my hat for Chokkun's idea.
i cant decide whether i love the original handle or the new handle better.. both. both is good. the original handle was also really nice and unique. the new handle gave a new life into the restoration. my question is.. does he repurpose the handle for another project? or does he just have a bunch of knife handles in a bin somewhere in his workshop? because i really like the original handle.
Oh that makes sense, he's taking the blade off the handle. Oh that makes sense, he's putting the blade in a chemical that removes rust. Oh that makes sense, he's sharpening and smoothing the blade. Why the heck is he cutting a bunch of cloth and dipping it in goo???
I love watching blade restoration videos, they are so relaxing to me and make me think of the show forged in fire, me and my bonus grandpa used to watch and i loved it.
I dont know why I found this funny. When he first drilled into the handle he was so so careful and precise and then the very next shot is just him jamming the drill in the handle violently and I just burst out laughing

kudos to your process! Hand work with files, abrasive papers and stones are the best ways to restore old blades. I watched another guy "restore" or should I say, "destroy" a 150 year old Japanese sword with an angle grinder and a butane torch. Well done! Plenty of years of service in this properly restored old blade.
I will need to remember that trick about masking the blade before sharpening to protect it from scratching where you don't want the metal to touch the stone.
