      Yah honestly AKs have lost their luster for anyone except the people bound and determined for some reason to buy/run AKs. IMO, buy a WASR, WBP, Zastava basic AK. Mount a dot, bubba a light on, run it. If you want somethin else, get something else. If you REALLT want something AK-Esque, get a Galil. It’s literally better in every way for not much more than this gun, but from a company with a better track record, after market support, more calibers, etc….

    $1600 is a hefty chunk of change for a firearm with the words _Century Arms_ written on the side. For an extra couple hundred dollars you can get an Arsenal Sam Series or even the new Dissent from CMMG. Or save a couple hundred with the Mutant, or even more with a Zastava. You can find those for under a thousand smackaroos now.

      NO, I'd expect that it's you that understands little and has been sold a line. It depends upon machining and materials engineering. Just cutting notches into a poorly manufactured barrel manages to do more harm than good, unless you're so anemic that those three ounces make all the difference for you. No, improper fluting does not make a barrel more rigid, it does make the barrel slightly lighter, and it usually helps heat dissipation...but it almost always helps sells rifles to the lesser-educated.

    I have it, its a great rifle, very soft shooting for an AK. Put a better brake on it and its amazing. I was timing myself on a three shot drill with this AK and and AR which is upgraded also and the times were the same. i was surprised. The recoil is like an AR. You absolutely do not feel it in the shoulder. Its like a Meridian but at half the price.

    Century arms gives me pause but I really like their stock solution, one of the main ergonomic issues with the AK is having the stock below the bore

      @@S1deshowRob I'm pretty certain theres aftermarket rear stock plates for various zastava receiver types as well as zastava factory options that does the same, both the ZPAP85 and ZPAP92's have variants that come with buffer tube stocks.

    • @generalgreevus8773
      @generalgreevus8773 Місяць тому +1

      Yeah if you look around at Zastava's models you can get one with a dustcover that has a little pic rail I have one pf those zpaps in 5.56 and holds zero no problems due to how Zastava attaches the dust cover. Also comes with a piece of pic rail on the rear trunnion so you can attach a folding buffer tube assembly or other 1913 stocks/braces such as the Midwest Industries Zenitco style stock. Also comes with a quad rail handguard, but there are MLOK options too. They are Yugo pattern AKs so if you want to swap out the quad rail you'll need a yugo pattern. May or not need a dremel to help get it to seat because AKs are AKs.

    I am no AK rifle expert but, I know a couple of three things. I was fortune enough to purchase a Vepr AK-47 after a strong recommendation from Rob Ski at AK4774 operators union. It’s unfortunate that the factory burned down. With that said the only other AK rifle I would purchase would be one that passes the AK4774 Operators Union 5,000 round test. If you want to reduce the recoil, you need to get a KNS Precision adjustable gas piston. The better 7.62x39 ammo with the least standard deviation is the 7.62x39 Federal American Eagle 124gr. FMJ Ammo but your mileage may vary depending on which rifle you have.

    Century Arms has a very sketchy reputation as far as AK's go. I would be interested as to what kind of steel the receiver is milled from and also what the bolt is made out of. I noticed a huge amount of barrel deflection when you were shooting, more so than any pressed barrel / stamped receiver AK that i have ever witnessed. That deflection is either coming from the front of the milled receiver or it has a spaghetti noodle for a barrel. I am going out on a limb and predict that sales are going to be sparce until someone does a 5K review so everyone can look at the receiver and bolt lugs and it passes a no go gauge unlike their other AK trash.

    7.62x39 is not an inherently inaccurate cartridge at 100 yards, and I'm utterly confident that you're a more than "capable" marksman.
    I'm no precision shooter by any stretch, I make no Sgt. York claims, but that grouping looks like what I do offhand with a Galil after that third cup of coffee on a windy day.

      Milled AKs do not have barrel trunnions- but I would suspect that they have poor metallurgy on either the bolt or receiver or poor headspace or something- remember the c39v2 was milled as well and they were really bad.
      The best thing that century does in regards to AKs is they import the stamped WASR Romanian AKs- though they usually put balsa stocks on them that everyone has to change out but at least the WASR are built like tanks and will last even if they are kinda crude and usually have canted sights out of the box.

    Want good groups with 7.62x39. Need a deliberate plan and time, like with any platform/caliber. I handload for my SAR-1; cast my own 155 Lee lead bullets and powder coat them--they make a good hoser round for close up practice at an incredibly cheap cost. Also run Berrys plated 123 gr for moderate distance and load Hornady 123 SST for precision. Not precision like a bolt gun or qood quality AR but I can reliably print 2 MOA groups at 100 (5 shot groups) with it with an SD of about 18. Any platform can be tuned ... just need to take it step by step.

    • @JD-tn5lz
      @JD-tn5lz Місяць тому +3

      Let's see.
      The AK came out in 1947 or so. The AR was developed in the 1950s and entered service in the 1960s. The FAL was developed in the 1940s and entered service in the 1950s, the G3 almost immediately thereafter. The AR180 system was first developed in the 1960's and eventually fathered the SCAR, the L85, the CZ Bren-series, the Tavor is essentially AK platform in it's guts, etc.
      What's your point?
      I'm no AK guy, but what they do at the rudimentary level is Exactly the very same thing that an AR does and the developments that followed it mirror the developments that followed AR.

      @@DevonReclaimedoh, really? Have you handled or toted around a basic M16A1 manufactured in the 1970's or a Galil manufactured in the 2020's?
      It's really more using what you're used to and have trained with. Just like the person who claims that an HK-style pistol paddle mag release is more efficient (they'd be correct) than a push button, you'll find that folks push back on that idea and deny reality simply because that is what they are used to.
      The issue is more that many AK builders don't move on beyond older ways.
      For example,, if you build a rifle to proper tolerances there is no reason to use a side mount for optics.
      Gunmakers respond to the market, as well they should. If customers want old-school features, that's what they're gonna git.
