    If you are at 24/25 I/s, you must try to be at 1/50 shutter speed. The result will be more natural (with movement blur). It is the « 180° angle rule »

    • @TheNiteinjail
      @TheNiteinjail 9 місяців тому +6

      Yeah, if you want rules. However i suggest since there are entire blockbuster films in different frame rates perhaps just critique the visuals themselves without rules. Cameras these days are capable of stunning captures and there may be cases for VFX where you almost have to shoot higher and add blur in post to taste ... trackers, masks and work better with crisp edges. this is perfect test footage.

    Thanks for the footage, I ordered mine last night. I love that the auto settings are overexposed but still look fairly clear allowing me to bring the exposure down in post for some decent shots. I'll generally shoot in 50/60fps dependant so I can slow it down when needed but I can't wait to add this camera to my video arsenal.

    2-what about resistance to flickering, with all those electrici lights? Had you any problem with aperture speed different form 1/50 or 1/100s?
    3-as in your memory, the real light intensity was closer to what we see in automatic modes or when you expose at 1/100s and 800/1600 ISO?

  • @filu_desu
    @filu_desu 9 місяців тому +1

    Something slightly jarring is going on between the frame rate and shutter speed here. I know some people don't agree with it, but the 180 rule is a good starting point, at least. So if you are shooting at 25FPS, try a shutter speed of 1/50. It's all subjective, but it might help smooth things out a bit. Also, when working in low light it's really important to try to keep things as stable as possible.. It's not natural to do so, but if you try to walk with less bounce, it can have a huge impact on the low light performance of any camera. There are techniques both in how you walk, and how you hold the gimbal that can help mitigate the bobbing motion on the vertical axis.. Nice examples of the low light performance though, thank you!

    Hi. Thanks for the low light test review.
    One question , I noticed that there is the bouncy effect whenever you walk although pocket 3 is built with a good gimbal.
    What could be the root cause of that bounce please?

    • @sylvia9292
      @sylvia9292 9 місяців тому

      same.. my pocket 2 is way better wth is that and the gimble head is bigger so i thought it would have inproved.

    • @filu_desu
      @filu_desu 9 місяців тому +1

      Root cause is that gimbals typically do not work on the vertical axis. The pocket 3 is a 3 axis gimbal, meaning that it works on the pan (left to right), the tilt (up and down) and roll (left and right "tilt").. It does not have any means of mitigating the vertical up and down motion, which is normal for most gimbals. There are techniques that can be applied to both the walk and the grip angle that can help reduce the motion. Walking heel to toe with short and narrow strides is my preferred method. Holding the device at a flatter angle, rather that pointing straight up will also allow the gimbal to use some of the tilt motion to compensate the bob.

    • @playeryin1831
      @playeryin1831  9 місяців тому +1

      I think that because I'm walking there's more movement than if I was standing still so 4x the shutter speed is better. If you look at my 4K50fps low light video. The other footage I see from the Pocket 3 does not have the up n down bobbing that this one has. I don't think it is caused by the new Pocket 3, it seems to be a regularly timed back n forth n up n down heavy footed rhythmic motion that the new camera operator does not seem to know they are doing. I wonder why I don't see this particular rhythmic bobbing motion in the other Pocket 3 video's?

      You can't easily compare the two.
      The Pocket 3's is not a true log profile, but rather a flat color profile that is good for increasing dynamic range and doing some color grading.
      The log profile of the iPhone 15 is one of the best on the market (even compared to expensive cine cameras) and is compatible with important professional standards like ACES. And in combination with ProRes you can do more complex color grading.

      With slower and careful walking, meaning with practice, things can get much better. In post, the left to right or right to left movements will have great chances of being fixed. Walking forward shots are way trickier. Adding weight to the hand holding the pocket can reduce the bouncing. You can try shooting some videos with a phone while walking and try the so called ninja walk and then add stab in post. If the result is unusable this way, it will only be a bit better with the pocket, since there is no vertical axis stab in it.

    Should i pick 25 or 30 fps when recording?
    Is there any rule on that

    • @playeryin1831
      @playeryin1831  9 місяців тому

      I used 25fps because I'm in the UK and I wanted to avoid flickering. Flickering is when lights in the video appear to be flashing on and off. In the UK the electricity runs at 50Hz. You have to use a multiple of 50 to avoid flickering. In the US the electricity runs at 60Hz so you have to use a multiple of 60, so 30fps is ok. This camera actually has anti-flickering settings though. So you could probably set that to the appropriate setting (50Hz or 60Hz) and then you could use either 25fps or 30fps. I haven't tried using the anti-flickering settings though but I guess it should work.
      30fps looks a bit more fluid and life-like. 24fps or 25fps is what they traditionally use in films.

    Thanks for this real world footage. It’s a great little camera but it supports my belief held for some time now that unless you go to at least APSC, it’s not really worth going to a stand alone camera over the latest iPhone. Ideally full frame camera, as they are getting smaller, cheaper and are on another level albeit even the cheapest with a kit lens is still twice the price. I’d get one of these DJI Pockets over, say, a ZV1 mark 1 or 2 though (had the former). For example, here’s a link to some iPhone 15 night time footage, I think the DJI is a bit better maybe but not much? ua-cam.com/video/1N3e3BjTgH4/v-deo.htmlsi=BSQOh5P8H5_KqKlA

      If you've got a top of the range iPhone you probably don't need a pocket 3.
      In fact if you are mostly filming during the daytime you are probably just as well using a DJI Action 4: Better colours, better stability, better fov, and no Bokeh.

    HORRENDOUS Z AXIS IN 4K .-...!!!
    I hope DJI sees this comment ...they had 3 years to sort out the Z axis up down walking movement ....3 years ...!!! absolutely horrendous ...!!! .
    I have original POCKET 1 ..... from 2020 ...this new POCKET 3 ....still the same ...better image of course ....but Z axis still HORRENDOUS ...!!! AM KEEPING THE ORIGINAL POCKET 1 ...since this is no improvement for 600 euros combo pack .
    Very disappointing from DJI ...Thanks for very demonstrative video .
    I am tempted to return the recently bought DJI action 4 for same issue .
    Cheeeeerrrsss..!!! Thanks for excellent video ....!!!!
