When I first heard the Coles Corner album I was knocked out and have since bought all his albums. An amazing voice and such a talented composer. Thanks for playing this!
Coles as in Cole Brothers was a department store in Sheffield UK. Before it moved locations it was on a corner and was a meeting place for many young couples in the 1950s, including my Mum and Dad. a great tune and lyrics.
One of my favorite songs, and certainly one of Hawley's best. It's oceanic, which is a theme of the whole album--lots of watery tones and imagery throughout, the centerpiece literally being 'The Ocean.' The inner waves, the untamed heart, never fully known even to oneself. Nice video, btw
Ha! I knew that would through you for a loop. Hawley is a real talent. He does rock out, but he also does some retro sounds and at times, can remind you of The Smiths. Funny Chris' reference about walking around Manhattan at night. When I first heard this,I was on a business trip in London, going through a tough period, and this song just spoke to me. Now I have everything this guy put out from Coles Corner going forward. If you want to hear him rock, check out "Down in the Woods". Thx!
@@intothemusic908 Thanks for the encouragement, but I think I will spare the world, or the one or two people who might eventually see it. I should have said that I once produced a fairly similar simulacrum of his brilliant song. All songs long forgotten by now I feel sure. "Ticket to Ride" might still be in there.
Wonderful choice of song. Richard Hawley is a legend
One of those amazing singers and guitar players that go unnoticed .

Fun request, Phil! Hope you enjoyed.
"The Ocean" (from this album) is without any doubt one of my favorite songs, rarely a week goes by without a single listen. What an awesome artist.
Excelente músico y cantante Mr Hawley.
Beautiful song from a great album. Reminds me of early Scott Walker. Inspired request and as mentioned he does have a wonderful voice. Nice one.
Thanks for this beautiful old favorite. I do a fairly good cover.
Post it on UA-cam and send a link.
