My mother used to refer to "A Prairie Home Companion" as "the hillbilly show"- probably because she heard so much country music on it. She looked forward to hearing it every Saturday- even when she was "slipping away". She didn't hear the May 9, 2015 broadcast, because she passed away (just before it ended). I just wanted you to know HOW much she really enjoyed it.........
Beautiful, beautiful, hope-filled, God-filled song, so fitting for this finale, and so typical of dear Garrison Keillor, who has such a knack for capturing the sweetest parts of our collective past. Thank you, Garrison and team, for this and for all the joy (and tears) your stories and music have given me through the years.
I'm glad I got to see your last show. I wish there was the dvd for sale. Thank you for the years of joy and laughter. recalling this brings tears to My eyes because you will not be hosting anymore. I hope you enjoy your retirement.
I remember hearing this air live on my way to work that Sunday morning -- harmonizing with it during the commute it made my day and frankly got me through my 7.5-hour shift!
YES! And I remember hearing it, and singing at the top of my lungs, on the drive home from work on the Saturday that it aired! And crying because it brought memories of childhood, and because it was Garrison's last broadcast!
Refrain: We’re marching to Zion, Beautiful, beautiful Zion; We’re marching upward to Zion, The beautiful city of God. Come, we that love the Lord, And let our joys be known; Join in a song with sweet accord, Join in a song with sweet accord And thus surround the throne, And thus surround the throne. Refrain The sorrows of the mind Be banished from the place; Religion never was designed Religion never was designed, To make our pleasures less, To make our pleasures less. Refrain Let those refuse to sing, Who never knew our God; But favorites of the heavenly King, But favorites of the heavenly King May speak their joys abroad, May speak their joys abroad. Refrain The God that rules on high, And thunders when He please, Who rides upon the stormy sky, Who rides upon the stormy sky, And manages the seas, And manages the seas. Refrain There we shall see His face, And never, never sin! There, from the rivers of His grace, There, from the rivers of His grace, Drink endless pleasures in, Drink endless pleasures in. Refrain x2
the video doesn't do it justice. in the audience that night we sang in harmony and raised our glasses - when the lyric says "drink endless pleasures in", we shared the experience - it was a definitely a shame to know it was the last performance but it was also a pleasure to be there
This literally leaves me in tears. I grew up on this.
me too! I know those words! I cried like a baby as I heard this on the car radio when it aired. Thank you, Garrison!
Some wonderful verses I have never heard before. I do miss Garrison very much.
Singing along with that hymn was one of the biggest highlights of seeing the show live!! :)

After all of these years, I think that was the first time that I saw Rich standup, hold a mic, and sing. One great musician.
Such a beautiful song. Wonderful to harmonize to, and a fitting send off to one of the staples of my childhood.
I went to the Hollywood Bowl to see this. Being at his last performance was so emotional and I sang my heart out during this I'll miss you Garrison
Thank you Garrison, for everything...
Y'all 'come back now, ya hear!

His last show and his best singing, by far. Wonderful singing by all of those on stage. The audience did well too.
Only Garrison Keillor could get a crowd in Hollywood to join him in a hymnsing! Fantastic!
I miss Garrison so much. I am so sad by what happened. It seems so harsh.
Refrain:
We’re marching to Zion,
Beautiful, beautiful Zion;
We’re marching upward to Zion,
The beautiful city of God.

Refrain
The sorrows of the mind
Be banished from the place;
Religion never was designed
Religion never was designed,
To make our pleasures less,
To make our pleasures less.
Refrain
Let those refuse to sing,
Who never knew our God;
But favorites of the heavenly King,
But favorites of the heavenly King
May speak their joys abroad,
May speak their joys abroad.
Refrain
The God that rules on high,
And thunders when He please,
Who rides upon the stormy sky,
Who rides upon the stormy sky,
And manages the seas,
And manages the seas.
Refrain
There we shall see His face,
And never, never sin!
There, from the rivers of His grace,
There, from the rivers of His grace,
Drink endless pleasures in,
Drink endless pleasures in.

Jeff Corcelius. why he changed the original lyrics? what's his point doing this?

Is it Heather Masse singing descant? It is beautiful.
It sounds like she is. Such a beautiful voice. From Maine, of course.
It's all vocals only, no instruments were heard in this song, not even Rich Dworsky's grand piano.
Such a beautiful song. Wonderful to harmonize to, and a fitting send off to one of the staples of my childhood.
