    Glad I stumbled upon this video - watched the entire thing. Great advice that almost makes me sad, sad because I'd guess about 2% of young men these days are rubbing up against this sort of wisdom on any regular basis.
    Good to know there are some folks our there like yourself. And you are so, so correct about detractors. You can almost measure your success in life by how many detractors you attract.

      @Patrick Ancona I think there are many more young guys my age, in their early to mid 20s, that are looking for a sense of direction, responsibility, and meaning than you may think. Look at the success of Jordan Peterson, for example. There's a lot of young men out there that don't understand how society became the way that it is. I know that I try to be a better person because of role models like my father, Reid, Paul Harrell, Clint Smith, John Lovell, Hickok, MAC, and not even necessarily always firearm guys. Some of my other more intellectual role models would be Thomas Sowell, Norm Macdonald, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, Friedrich Nietzsche. And then you've got the old war heroes and great leaders some people may aspire to be like, too. Like Patton, Churchill, Robert E. Lee (who wasn't a terrible person just because he fought for the Confederacy, he fought for the south solely because he felt it was his duty to fight for his home state of Virginia, his wife Mary Lee even freed her own slaves she inherited), George Washington. If Virginia hadn't succeeded, Lee would probably have led the Union forces and the war would have been a whole lot shorter. Any of the founding fathers really deserve attention from every young man. There's so much wisdom to be had about the foundation of this country in something like the Federalist Papers. Then there's also religious or spiritual role models, which can be different for every person.
      I think there's a lot of young men fucking around and pretending to be thugs. I think because of their peacock mentality, they're the ones you see the most because they're wearing flashly clothes or showing you their underwear. I think the young man of integrity is easy to not notice in everyday life because you just see a good ol' boy in the south or something and don't get the opportunity to understand what is on his mind. You don't go around asking people "Are you a man of integrity?" when you meet them... So I dare say, we're still here. We just don't make the headlines. I don't think you can really understand your place in this society until you understand the history of how society got to the point that you're living in. So I blame a lot of it just on ignorance... And some of these guys my age are a lot less fortunate than myself. They didn't have two parents to teach them the traditional gender roles that have sustained societies for thousands of years. How can you know what it means to be a man when mom and grandma raised you? I'm not saying we're not to blame, to a certain extent we are. But not solely to blame. We're all just individually a product of our environment, and the real choice is whether or not we overcome our circumstance.
      I kind of went off on a rant, sorry about that. But I do get tired of older guys assuming I'm some punk just because of my age, and I know other guys do, too. I think every generation has this kind of transitional period at some point. All I'm saying is maybe give the young neighbor kid down the street a chance before you write him off as just another millennial man-child. He may appreciate or even desperately need a mentor.

      That's probably not great advice. I mean, when someone says, "toxic masculinity," I think of a steroid-junky who brags non-stop about himself, as loudly as possible, acts as though others are beneath him, slaps women on the ass everywhere he goes, lives to serve himself while crapping on everyone else around him, and shaming people who's sh!t doesn't smell as good as his, while trying to start a fist fight with every man or woman that doesn't shower him with praise and adoration for how many animals he personally kills to sustain his meat intake at every meal of every day of the year. That's my definition, anyway. I'm not saying guys should be soy-fed mice, un-proud of their personal accomplishments or physical health, but if you're going to advise young men to act like the douche I described in my first sentence, I guess we disagree on what makes a decent human being.

      @vo639 5 років тому

      @faultroy
      My appologies for mistaking you for a leftist. Had you been this specific to begin with, that could have been avoided. You are the first one I ever heard criticizing Reid's presentation who is not a leftist. So, I admit I jumped to the conclusion. but, I own up to my mistake and apologize. I'm still not sure that your cretique of Reid's presentation was founded, and I don't have time to relisten to it right now, but I will later.
      NRA's issues are well known by now. And, although I learned it from gun channels, indeed many are clearly not ready to confront NRA openly.
      GOA, Gun Owners of America is a better organisation to fight Second Amendment infringements.

    • @vo639
      @vo639 5 років тому +1

      Faultroy, you certainly have earned your respect.
      Though I don't disagree with you on anything you say here, when it comes to Reid Henrich's, he is being proactive by doing what he is good at, running his training facility. However, I'm not going to put words in his mouth so I'll let him speak for himself. It would be both interesting and possibly a beginning to something good to see you fellows sit down for a chat. The important thing is that we focus on what we can do to cooperate and bring ourselves together, rather than allowing ourselves to be driven apart. Because, ultimately we face the same battle. And the left would love for us to be driven apart so they can just mowe us over.
      As for when it comes to taking action, you are absolutely correct. We have to take action and be willing to fail, to gain anything significant. And an important factor is that we take action together as a large powerful force. Governments all over this world have by now figured out that as long as they keep their Citizens fat, happy and either dependent on social assistance or in debt with only a false sense of security they can run people over with buldosers without them being willing to get out of their TV recliners to put an end to it.

    • @John5.56
      @John5.56 4 роки тому

      @faultroy I don't understand what it is you're babbling about. At the end of the day if you're the man of the family you need to be the protector. Period. As for the NRA there are plenty of gun channels that have been pointing out for years that they aren't for anyone's constitutional rights just to profit off them. Sounds to me that you're a grumpy old fud that just found out you've been giving the NRA your hard earned money to bargain away your rights. That's nobody's fault but your own goofy internet troll go somewhere else with your negativity.

    Appreciate the advice as always Mr. Reid. As a 20 year old man in this world today it seems like we’re being pushed into a corner and many of us are taking the easy way out and conforming. I for one will never apologize for being who God made me to be. I always remember the quote “strong men create good times, good times create weak men, weak men create bad times”. One of the manliest things we can do is to read from great leaders and philosophers who have passed down this knowledge to us through books, but greater still is the word of God which outlined above any other book what a man should be. Keep your word, respect others, follow your duty, and honor your God!

    If you believe in the Barbarian line of thought (AKA Jack Donovan’s theory) a “real” man is someone who does what ever it takes to defend and provide for his tribe; and that’s all there is to it.
    Many people will agree and disagree with that. I believe it to be true at its core.
    Maybe it’s time overdue for patriots to get tribal again...

      I worry about my 14 yr old son (15 this Fall) all the time. I can mother him, love and care for him. Try to instill values in him. Go to his basketball games and cheer him on and encourage him. But I can NEVER father him or be a manly example to him... I know how important that is. I don't have a lot of men left in my family.. he definitely needs a mentor of some kind. "The greatest want of the world is the want of men-men who will not be bought or sold, men who in their inmost souls are true and honest, men who do not fear to call sin by its right name, men whose conscience is as true to duty as the needle to the pole, men who will stand for the right though the heavens fall.
    But such a character is not the result of accident; it is not due to special favors or endowments of Providence. A noble character is the result of self-discipline, of the subjection of the lower to the higher nature-the surrender of self for the service of love to God and man.
    The youth need to be impressed with the truth that their endowments are not their own. Strength, time, intellect, are but lent treasures. They belong to God, and it should be the resolve of every youth to put them to the highest use. He is a branch, from which God expects fruit; a steward, whose capital must yield increase; a light, to illuminate the world's darkness.
    Every youth, every child, has a work to do for the honor of God and the uplifting of humanity." Ellen G. White, Education p.57
