I'm so glad you reinforced the fact that wet blending doesn't need to be seamless on your first blend, that you do it in several layers and with glazing etc that is what achieved the smooth effect.
I like this video's attitude. This video doesn't bother explaining what wet blending is. It assumes you already know. Also, if you don't know you need to go watch at least a dozen Vincy V HC vids and then come back. Also, if you do that, you're welcome.
Also, there aren't many of these in real-time tutorials out there, and it really helps us beginners to understand the steps when the footage is not as heavily edited as the usual guides have. Watching the paint dry and see the brush control and paint mixing is great! How much paint do you have on your palette? How big are those blobs of paint? Like... a 5 cent coin? I'm always amazed by how big your blobs of paint are and how little of the brush you actually use to fetch paint from them, barely disturbing them, and yet covering so much area on the mini.
i love squidmar right now because we probably got a new video on this channel partially because of him and this awesome mini and i love you Sam right now because of your calm painting process and for letting us be part of it again :)
Great video, there is one thing in this sculpt that completely trow it off for me, why does the feet has only 4 fingers and the hand has 5, its like the sculptor was making it stylized and them decided to keep the five fingers in the hands, anyway the video is great and you explain your precess in way that makes it look so easy.
I'm going to admit that I'm not sure that someone who regularly carries around a half dozen dead animals is quite as particular about shampooing his beard as you or I might be. Nevertheless. The result is awesome. Always love to see you here, Sam. And your painting, of course!
I have really been wanting to try a Frazetta-esque skin tone. Couldn't be more stoked to get one of these minis and follow along with this exactly. "Rule of 3s" makes me want to crack planescape jokes, I wonder if you are a fan, Sam.
Thanks, Jonathan! I wanted to lean heavily into a green skin tone and coal black is a nice cold tone for the shadows. No big ideas, just happy painting :)
I show student how to control the paint on a flat surface in most of ny classes. It teaches control and it a great exercise for people who have mainly painted figurines. Cheers!
I keep the bristles wet enough to flex and release paint but the paint itself is very thick. Too much dilution and the colors will run togthere. Check out my video, Intro to Wetblending for more insight. Cheers!
@@playaway69ify heh, well he also has green skin. I see what you're saying though and appreciate you eye for detail. I think I have to be clear that there is no offense taken because we are communicating in plain text online. Hails and cheers, buddy!
Thanks so much for the lovely work on this sam! I absolutely love the tutorial an the paint job!
So happy to hear that! This was a joy to paint and I appreciate the freedom you gave me with this paint job. Cheers, buddy!
I've watched this tutorial loads tonight. Its now 01.50 and I don't want to switch off watching ha ha!superb, awesome and so enjoyable!
Sam Lenz inspired me so much and the weapon rack from Monument Hobbies are my favorite they have great brushes there
I swear, Sam Lenz is the bob ross of mini painting
I'm imagining Bob Ross licking his 2' wide paint brushes now. LOL
No, that is Goobertown.
Lenz is Frank Frazetta ;)
To me he is, so not fact 😜
Morning coffee and Sam back on the Tube, heck yeah!
WWFFD. Nuff said. Thank you Sam for all of the inspiration and help.
What a fabulous artist you are Sam such a fantastic tutor too THANKYOU
Thanks so much 😊
Awesome video, great delivery and camera work. Thanks!
Textured highlights and smooth shaded areas definitively added a wrinkle to my brain!
I'm so glad you reinforced the fact that wet blending doesn't need to be seamless on your first blend, that you do it in several layers and with glazing etc that is what achieved the smooth effect.
Glad to hear that :) Thanks for watching!
This is one of your best tutorials yet! I could have watched another hour.
Longer videos are my cup of tea!
I really appreciate how this channel focuses on techniques and not novelty "challenges".
Frazetta vibes. Beautiful rendering.

Welcome back, your were sorely missed while away.
Thank you, Michael :)
Lets gooooooooooooooooooooooo he is back! Just love your work man!
Just watched this again--thanks again for it, Sam. I will be returning to it plenty I think...

Awesome colors! Thanks for sharing your process.
Hey welcome back my guy!
Glad to see you posting again.
It's great to see you happy and healthy, still slaying the grey! Lovely work as always :)
Thank you, Juliana! It's been a rough year but I'm in a good place now.

Yay, you're back on youtube! Master at work!
Great stuff as always, especially noting the paint consistency with wet blending. Huge help dude!
Glad to see you back on youtube!!
This greenish skin tone remembers me Frazzeta's style. I love it.
Amazing, amazing! Been some time since I saw such an original and rich skin color take! keep it on!
Missed your content, man... welcome back!
Love how you talk through the stages of wet blend, helps remind me I'm not done with just that first go.
Glad to see you back man! That was brilliant!
I don’t claim to know them all but Sam is the best teacher on the internet imo
Thank you, I'm honored!
Finally, another video from Sam!
the king is back
It's the wizard of paint! He hath arrived!
Just adding my comment to the general theme here. Welcome back. You and your crazy talent were missed

It's great to see more of your wonderful work on display, sir! Welcome back!
Thank you! Glad this is well recieved.
It's funny you should mention frazetta. I was thinking it was classic frazetta early on. Wonderful tutorial. Thanks 🤟🏼
i love squidmar right now because we probably got a new video on this channel partially because of him and this awesome mini and i love you Sam right now because of your calm painting process and for letting us be part of it again :)
Thank you for the kind words :) It is 100% because of Emil that I made this. Cheers!
The man, the myth, the legend. ..

Man, this looks absolutely sick. Thank you for sharing!!!! I really appreciate the education.
You're welcome, Shane!
'mazing work as usual laddie
Dude I love watching you wet blend. Like Bob Ross you make it look so easy but in practice it's not so easy! Hope to see more videos from you.
Thank you, Chris! I'll still share from time to time but won't be releasing on a regular schedule.
You're back, bro!
Pure hotness 🔥 🔥 🔥
Hope to see more of these Sam
Thanks, Philip! I'll release more from time to time.

More like this!
Oh hell yeah.
Oh how I've missed the zen voice of the master of the cowbell.
Haha, many thanks!
Such a awesome video man!
I have really been wanting to try a Frazetta-esque skin tone. Couldn't be more stoked to get one of these minis and follow along with this exactly. "Rule of 3s" makes me want to crack planescape jokes, I wonder if you are a fan, Sam.
Glad you e.jiy the video! Frazetta is a big influence for me. Haven't heard of planes cape though. Cheers!
"Dark and hard wood. And I'm into that." Its 2022 Sam, whatever floats your boat brother.....😂
Heh heh ;)
This is awesome. 🥰🥰🥰
Thank you, Carter!
I'm in sore need of a dead pidgeon in my belt after watching this succulent shaman rise from dead resin.
Haha, ain't that the truth!
Looks like an oil panting awesome
Where have to been!, Missing your videos a lot lately
I've been on a strange orbit but making patreon content the whole way. Cheers!
Ya did Frank proud Sam
Thank you, Gary :)
I'd been thinking you were doing a very Frazetta color style when you confirmed it with "What would Frank Frazetta do?"
Ahhhh shit! The wild child is back maaaaaan.
These flesh tones remind me of an homage to Frank Frazetta. \m/,
EDIT: just heard the Frazetta shout-out, lol.
Thanks, man! He's been an inspiration since day one, before I knew the name, my dad has his work on display.
I never would have thought to use P3 Coal Black as a skin shadow color. I'm curious what the thought process was for that choice.
Thanks, Jonathan! I wanted to lean heavily into a green skin tone and coal black is a nice cold tone for the shadows. No big ideas, just happy painting :)
Where you been my dude?!
it's amazing to me how so many miniature painters apparently don't do canvasses
I show student how to control the paint on a flat surface in most of ny classes. It teaches control and it a great exercise for people who have mainly painted figurines. Cheers!
My man, which brushes do you use? I have such a hard time finding brushes that keep a nice fine point
Zorn palette, if I'm not mistaken. Was that intentional 🙂?
A question: When you're wetblending, you use undiluted paint, but how much moisture do you keep in the brush?
I keep the bristles wet enough to flex and release paint but the paint itself is very thick. Too much dilution and the colors will run togthere. Check out my video, Intro to Wetblending for more insight. Cheers!
'Thunk'
Oh yeah, this isn't attached either 😂
😎🙃
What is up with the foot sculpt?? Awesome paint job as always of course :D
His feet seemed fine when the model was in hand. Sometimes angles can make things look strange. Glad you enjoy the video!
@@SamLenzArtwork Haha, not sure what feet look like where you're from but that guy has 2 big toes and only 4 in total 😅
@@playaway69ify heh, well he also has green skin. I see what you're saying though and appreciate you eye for detail. I think I have to be clear that there is no offense taken because we are communicating in plain text online. Hails and cheers, buddy!
@@SamLenzArtwork Cheers to you fella, no offense intended, only banter here, the green is inspired in my opinion!
