Already during the first minute when you said you need a saturated base color because it will be desaturated as you highlight it made so many things click for me. I mean I know for example that you shouldnt highlight with pure white because it desaturated too much, but now it clicked logically to me how I have to choose base tones and what the possible intensity of my highlights implicates for my choice of base color. To be honest I still don’t understand this technique. Why so many layers if you paint over each previous step and cover almost everything? And do you paint over the left out areas of previous steps with glace consistency? I don’t get it. ;(
I start with a dark color and leave a bit of the previous step to reduce the light area more and more and get a perfect gradient with different tones. Yes, to integrate all the layers, this will make the figure look more natural. 😄
