That's awesome a few coaches are still in service. I ride my motorcycle through the pines next to the tracks and I can just invision that powerful train thundering through the woods.
Arguably, one of the reasons the Blue Comet is so famous is thanks to Lionel. J.L Cowen, Lionel's founder was a regular passenger on the Comet, and apparently was fond of it, and included it in his line of toy trains. To this day, one the pinnacles of vintage toy train collecting is considered a Standard Gauge Lionel Blue Comet set. For the rest of us mere mortals, Lionel recently issued a version of the Comet in a Lionchief starter set as a nod to the one of the good old days.
Hey, there is the blue comet train cars alot of them!! Their at the (Tuckahoe, NJ) Train station. The Last car with the gating on the back is at their station! STILL BLUE! But rusty
I remember the excitement when Dr. Emmons visited me and I showed him one of the 5 16mm original 1948 Kodachrome prints made of the famous Big Little Railroad film.
I'm planning on saving one of the Blue Comet 4-6-2s using possibly time travel. The Locomotive will be no 833 which was scrapped in the 1950s when steam on this RR ended and one way is finding a group for her to continue running for excursion use
The Utah transit authority, has put one passenger car from the blue comet on to each of it’s Front runner inter-urban’s. They’re pretty fun to ride and the seats are slightly more comfortable than the ones on the bumper deer cars.
its sad she went out with such little video footage. its sad to see the state of the road she once thundered down with such beauty. and its sad to see the condition of some of old coaches that once where known as such a luxury. but, at least we still have the memories... and the models!
My car buddies and I have taken several road trips to visit the Blue Comet passenger car (the Temple?) in Tuckahoe. I have several photos that I would be glad to share.
Thank you for sharing I was just thinking I saw that they are building a need PRR t1 4-4-4-4 Steam Engine if they can do that why can’t we do the same and make a brand new 4-6-2 blue comet and number it 834 I knew it’s gonna cost a lot but I strongly believe it can be done my name is Michael Grzymala I live in south jersey and would like to be apart of the history of railroading of the CNJ for what ever is out their to get involved in if you could use a guy that loves railroading feel free to message me at anytime
At least several coaches and observation cars survive, which is grand. Maybe one of the cars could be converted into a dining car or combine to complete the train. As for the motive power, just take an existing engine and with a few modifications make it resemble a G-3 class NJ Pacific. As a Canadian, several CP and CN 4-6-2 Pacifics survive in both Canada and the US, so just use one of those. A compromise if you will.
The beginning part is really sad but you can find a film with the blue comet in it with 1 problem it's in black and white but if your a railfan like me that doesn't matter. The move is northeastn steam 1935 - 1937 yes that's how it's spelled northeastn i got mine at the prr museum by the Strasburg rr so if you get it from there you can go on a steam locomotive to 😃
I wonder how many people would go to the jersey shore from Cape May to central NJ if there was a quick rail option. Many people who visit the US don’t want to rent a car. Even Americans don’t want to drive. So to me with traffic ever increasing I think building or restoring rail to the shore would be a great idea. They could incorporate the AC line to run north and south and call the entire system something cool. Even Just Jersey Shore RR would work.
True that I live right next to the old comet line in howell NJ and there was talk about passenger service coming in the future but I think it got the kaibosh from lakewood and red bank. Its sad how badly these tracks have aged.
thats a super sad ending for such a beautiful train

I want to see the full train on the rails again 😄👍
Trainz 2 I love that!!!!!!!!
I used to see a passenger couch in Vineland N.J. I last time there in 2004.
Well, ai believe the T1 trust has proven, that you can rebuild these masters of art. It just requires funding and some dedication.

we have one jersey central line coach in service on the beach train on the santa cruz big trees and pacific railroad
I think somebody should build a new Blue Comet just like how they're building a new Pennsylvania T1
Maybe at least rebuild the pacific, gather a bunch of Pullman heavyweights and bam!
I just learned that the rail car at the Clinton Diner is a Blue Comet car. Yes their food is incredible.
Is the full video still available for purchase?
Yes. You can buy a digital download or DVD here: www.robertaemmonsjr.com/store.html

Imagine riding in that club car, sipping on a Negroni
You know, it sucks because I ate at that restaurant on my back from Vermont, but the coach was closed for the day. :-(

thePokerPot To me, films showcasing steam should be in b&w.
The coach in Tuckahoe was sold I believe
