One of my favorite episodes of the entire series, so much coming to a head here. The build up to this point was amazing to see in real time. ....also always wondered why the Soprano crew wasn't more prepared to go into hiding after making an attempt on an acting NYC boss? That seemed sloppy to me. Bobby, Sil and Patsy all didn't have eyes on the back of their heads.
Is Bobby supposed to be the "Blue Comet" in this episode? When the train crashes, so does he. Maybe he was the type of gangster that belonged in a classier time.
These last two episodes really made me realize that you never really clearly are shown how many people are members of Tony's crew/family made and unmade. Particularly in the final two seasons
I think Melfi was the bigger user in that relationship. The vicarious thrill of treating a mob boss, having a hot dinner topic, breaching confidentially by discussing him, preventing him progressing to behavioral therapy after she was raped because he made her feel safe. I get that, but she prevented progress and used him emotionally essentially. As soon as she started acting out, being flirty with him and having sexual fantasies about him she should have let him go as she evidentally had been comprimised.
Great recap, just finished the series the other day in preparation for the movie. Out of all the deaths in the show Bobby’s was the most tragic. He seemed to be the most honorable out of all the wise guys. Always trying to do right by Tony and his sister. The way he mourned when his wife died. Always had a soft spot for the guy, he deserved better.
I don't want this to end, but cheers to your hard work all these months man. I still remember the pilot episode video like it was yesterday. Hope you continue making videos relating to The Sopranos or other HBO classics!
That's kind of BS. Do big dogs prevent a lot of stranglings? Unless they are trained to attack and kill on command, they are not really going to do anything.
I think Melfi knew therapy really wasn't working with Tony for the last few years, but just kept him as a patient after she was raped. Knowing that all she had to do was tell Tony what happened and her rapist would die horribly gave her power over him. I suppose after enough years passed she didn't need that anymore which is why she finally ended Tony's treatment.
@@bakashinji I don't know how realistic it is, I feel like there should have been _some_ kind of retribution. I wouldn't consider myself tough or badass at all (I'm a big guy but I'm more of a gentle giant), however if somebody did that to any of my loved ones, I'd _have_ to do something about it. That guy who did it is not walking around living a carefree life if I know who he is, I'd be too overcome with emotion. It's very unrealistic for Melfi's ex-husband to just kinda let it go the way he did.
Rewatched this one yesterday and noticed how the camera follows Paulie after the guys from Italy arrive. He hands the job off to Patsy and leaves the Bing parking lot in what appears to be quite a hurry, almost like he wanted to get a warning to someone of something before it was too late. I had forgotten just how explicit this evidence was. Is this a bit of a red herring? Is it generally accepted that Paulie continued to communicate with New York after Johnny Sac died?
Nah I doubt it. After Johnny died he had no connections what so ever to New York and I doubt that he would have wanted to flip after how he realised they were using him
I think it's worth noting. One thing Paulie is... is a survivor. David Chase said when Sirico took the role, the one stipulation he had was that he wouldn't be a rat...but he never said anything about playing for a different team/Family.
I don't think "explicit" and "evidence" are on the table. It's only evidence that Paulie may or may not be in a hurry. Plus, Paulie was sort of double crossed by that NY family already, or he he would have felt that way.
@@histguy101 Good point about the lack of NY connection. But what do you make of the minor confrontation between Paulie and Bobby when Sil let's him in on the plan? The way he hands it off to Patsy then GTFOs seems like, the very least, he doesn't want to be involved. Just self preservation?
NY made a fool of Paulie when he was cozying up to Johnny Sac, and Paulie is the type to hold a grudge, so definitely don’t think he’d have been double crossing NJ for them.
I suppose my issue with Melfi dropping Tony is the existential idea that everyone can’t be fixed. The idea of him being in therapy is a hopeful one because it entertains the idea that no matter the person they can be made to be normal. What is Tony left with when Melfi won’t refill his prescription and he doesn’t have access to talk therapy anymore? While I do respect the validity of the study mentioned in the episode, it is a very troubling concept to think that there are people in the world that simply cannot be helped.
Pure kino I started watching your sopranos log at around “Boca” and you really have come a long way in 9 months. A lot of recent memories of where I was as I was watching your videos. Thank you so so much. This should literally be HBO’s guidebook for each Sopranos episode. Can’t wait to make a final comment on the “Made in America” episode.
Dude did a REALLY long, thorough, and frankly highly persuasive argument for her being the way Tony ultimately gets located at the diner so that Mister Members Only can walk out of the bathroom behind Tony and get cut-to-black-I'll-NEVER-forgive-you-for-this-David-Chase in the back of the head and all over those lovely onion rings for the table and probably everything else too. Here is his theory vid: ua-cam.com/video/4HN96pzo2X4/v-deo.html
The end of Melfi's story felt so forced and unnatural. It's clear that she had built up a bit of affinity for Tony over the series and to just have her colleague act obtuse and highly unethical out of the blue to unceremoniously shut down the story line that THE WHOLE SERIES PREMISE WAS BASED AROUND without any real conclusions just flat out sucked. She lost all her agency in her final three scenes for no good reason. It is one of the biggest failings of the show in my opinion.
I can’t believe we’re at the end of the series... just in case you’ve never seen any of my other comments on your other videos, I have to thank you again from the bottom of my heart for producing the content you have... Around the time I first became aware of your channel I was in a VERY dark place & since then, having your videos to look forward To & help me zone out & cope @ rough times has been a REAL blessing... thank you again
It's one of those things where it's a small thing and I was actually remember being very disappointed when I saw this episode basically is the war between the two and this war have been hyped up literally since like season 3 and 4 with the ralphie stuff, but really when you look at it I like the history of Mafia wars most of them are basically just you know one or two guys getting hit and then coming together for a conference for the most part it's actually a surprisingly realistic depiction of like a mob War. What gets even more interesting is the idea that The sopranos new going into it they couldn't win and they're just trying to weather the storm but yeah it's like like a lot of this season has been little things lead to Big consequences such as the car wreck with Christopher, it's funny how David Chase seems to have mastered the idea of not all of it has to be planned or organized sometimes a missed phone call or taking too long or being too greedy grabbing the money can lead to dire consequences
The snobs at dinner with Dr. Melfi were ridiculous... The guy who (1) said Italians had big noses, then (2) said he was taking about wine, and then (3) sends a WINK down to the other end of the table deserved a righteous backhand slap, at minimum.
Great work as usual but a very minor point: A medical degree is not a doctorate. A doctorate is the highest degree offered, which is a Phd (or a Doctor of Philosophy)
2:45 Gotta agree with you there! I'm no therapist, but I don't think it's appropriate(or even allowed) to be friends with your patients and hang out with them like old buddies. And for him to reveal the identity of her patient to their friends like it was some juicy gossip was not only unprofessional but unethical as well. what a dick
Kino you’ve been killing it for us for months now. Sad to see it coming to an end, but we know you’re gonna have plenty to dissect when Many Saints comes out.
You forgot to add why the episode is called the blue comet... It's a reference to Bobby, who is also wearing a blue shirt when he gets shot. What does it mean? It's simply alluding to Bobby's meteoric rise inside the mafia, which can head towards two different directions. On Wikipedia you'll find this: The Blue Comet was a passenger train operated by the Central Railroad of New Jersey which ran between Atlantic City and Jersey City from 1929 to 1941. The train's locomotive and passenger cars, as well as its interior were stylized in blue color. Bobby is buying a Blue Comet train model when he is murdered. ... Which is true. But it's definitely alluding to his rise inside the mafia. Bobby would have become the boss if Tony didn't get killed in the last episode.

I still find it hard to believe that, as late as 2007, Melfi was not yet up to speed on the well-established notion that sociopaths are generally untreatable (per Robert Hare et al).

These last two episodes really made me realize that you never really clearly are shown how many people are members of Tony's crew/family made and unmade. Particularly in the final two seasons
5 or 6 crews, estimate 40-50 soldiers, and 50-100 associates.
Most associates are never made. Its a group decision by all the families or at least that was the idea. No idea how someone gets made now
I think Melfi was the bigger user in that relationship.
Tony and the steak recipe, crime of the century
I can hear the sadness in your voice. I appreciate your passion for this.
I don't want this to end, but cheers to your hard work all these months man. I still remember the pilot episode video like it was yesterday. Hope you continue making videos relating to The Sopranos or other HBO classics!
“Toy dogs are basically useless.” Gold.
I suppose after enough years passed she didn't need that anymore which is why she finally ended Tony's treatment.
she was also sexually attracted to him, even though her professional demeanor wouldn't let her admit it or act upon it.
I was heavily disappointed that the rapist didn't get his comeuppance. But it's realistic ig
i dont think she ever intended to tell him about that but thats an interesting angle
That Burt scene reminds me of that scene in Good Fellas where the guy has a heart attack and the dog is yapping. The house is almost the same too.
You mean Artie Piscano after he gets busted by the FBI in the movie Casino?
Sheesh. I actually started tearing up at the end. This was so much fun to watch over the months and now we only have a few days to go. Thanks Kino.
Agent Harris was one of Tony’s capos,
What a ride this has been... I have been looking forward to every single episode every time I come home from work. Can't wait to see what you do next!
I tell ya what a goldmine is..those Blue Comet model trains
The last episode we’ll see Artie, he was my favorite
Same I love our favorite warm and convivial host
Oo'h, Prince Rogaine!
he and Charmaine seem so happy
it felt like goodbye to me
Love Artie’s little hand gestures. Brilliant acting.

These Soprano logs have been getting me through some tough times. Thank you for doing these. 🙏🏻
Don’t want it to end 🙁 this has been great work man, I’ve really enjoyed this and you should be proud.
I love how the melfi and tony relationship ends. Its perfect, I love how he calls her "immoral" theres no other way it could've ended.
Happy to see you brought up the Rihanon theory! Haven’t heard many speak about it
Conspiracy theories now??
A guy named Robert I believe made a great break down.
Here his video is: ua-cam.com/video/4HN96pzo2X4/v-deo.html
@@seanbrazell6147 I agree with him, but damn is that guy such an asshat.
The shot when Melfie closes the door is also similar to the shot when Michael closes the door in the Godfather
One episode from the end.
It has been an honor, Pure Kino. 🍷
Im glad brother. Hope you're doing better!
I think Elliott was drunk and that's why he was being so reckless with what he brought up in front of their friends.
Pure Kino fan for life - this is one of my favorite UA-cam series ever!
I’ll miss you kino, you’ve made 5th period good for the better part of a year!
The fact that Phil's Mistress's dad looks like Phil is one of those great and underrated details that elevates the Sopranos.
Just want to say thank you!!
Your series of videos on all the sopranos episodes will be in many Playlists for years to come.
Great great job!
I always eat my lunch and watch these videos so thank you
The snobs at dinner with Dr. Melfi were ridiculous...
The guy who (1) said Italians had big noses, then (2) said he was taking about wine, and then (3) sends a WINK down to the other end of the table deserved a righteous backhand slap, at minimum.
The New Jersey family is just a glorified crew. Thanks for the episode.
A pygmy thing in New Jersey
" You probably don't even hear it when it happens. "
" Ask your friend on the wall over there"
Great work as usual but a very minor point: A medical degree is not a doctorate. A doctorate is the highest degree offered, which is a Phd (or a Doctor of Philosophy)
I imagine Bobby heard that coming.
2:45 Gotta agree with you there! I'm no therapist, but I don't think it's appropriate(or even allowed) to be friends with your patients and hang out with them like old buddies. And for him to reveal the identity of her patient to their friends like it was some juicy gossip was not only unprofessional but unethical as well. what a dick
Don’t order any onion rings or cue up anything featuring Steve Perry, Kino! 🙏🤞
Going to med school isn't pursuing a "doctorate" it's getting an M.D. ( Medical Doctor )
Kino you’ve been killing it for us for months now. Sad to see it coming to an end, but we know you’re gonna have plenty to dissect when Many Saints comes out.
The music that plays at the end/during the credits is amazing. Very melancholy
You forgot to add why the episode is called the blue comet... It's a reference to Bobby, who is also wearing a blue shirt when he gets shot.
What does it mean? It's simply alluding to Bobby's meteoric rise inside the mafia, which can head towards two different directions.
On Wikipedia you'll find this:
The Blue Comet was a passenger train operated by the Central Railroad of New Jersey which ran between Atlantic City and Jersey City from 1929 to 1941.
Boardwalk empire would be dope to do Kino!
nice pfp
Really sad to see this series end. Great times revisiting the Sopranos with you all, see ya tomorrow afternoon!
I'm gonna cry I cant believe this is coming to an end these videos were literally the only reason I'd go one UA-cam evday to see if theres a new one now what am I going to do? 😭
On*
More videos to come :)
If Bobby leans over on that blue comet he might flip it the fuck over!
Wow did Melfi age from the pilot to the end.
Loves James Gandolfini but he gained like 100 pounds, so he had a big change too
Bobby was my favorite character. I teared up when he died.
It was actually an AR-10 that Bobby give Tony. Visually it's very similar to an AR-15. Kino never had the makings of a varsity marksman. :)
Kino is going to wear a members only jacket while recording his final episode as a homage
hopefully you'll do other HBO series, every show there is a gold mine
maybe sex and the city?
@@aljwham i was thinking more along the lines of true detective, the wire, deadwood, game of thrones (up until s04).
I just want you to know that these have become my daily dose of happiness. I will be sorry to see them go. Will have to restart from beginning. Thank you so much for everything sir. I appreciate you for contributing to my life
I'm glad you've enjoyed them! Plenty of content to come :)
Kino I can assure you that I will continue to watch these videos, even after the last one. Anytime I’m working on projects I just throw your videos on in the background and reminisce on this amazing shoe and I always enjoy your thoughts on things 💌
cheers for the constant uploads man i was stuck at home due to covid issues and having something to watch really helped me pass the time and your content is top notch looking forward to your future work
Kino: We gotta hit first... And this all dovetails with other information I got that HBO already has a target on my back!
We: It's a big move.
I hate that Bobby had to go. He and Junior-the best!
When you got sad, I got sad. Well done this on this Kino thoroughly enjoyed each one.
I watched from the start when you were at a precipice of an enormous crossroads.
Nice work Kino, my vote is for “Community” next! 🙏
never thought i'd get so caught up waiting for videos to come about a TV series who's been off the air this long but PURE KINO did just that...it's been a nice ride
Sucks it’s almost over these have a soft spot in my heart. Was watching one mins before my son was born, and it brought a calmness over me. Thanks for all ur hard work eh not to shabby 🤌🏽
We will miss your Soprano logs terribly!!!! Thank you for doing these!
"I wonder if you even get the notification when The Sopranos logs end."
"Ask you're friend Borko there, on the wall."
I sometimes hear PureKino narrating and anaylzing my own life as a result of watching all of these vids!!
Fun Fact: I live near the actual model train store where Bobby got shot.
Nearly the end.. I feel like nothing good is gonna happen and nothing does but so what, I'm surviving.
Anyone that hasn't seen the interview with Tony Sirrico mentioned around 5:30 definitely check it out
Burt literally just got made in the soprano family and turned on tony that quick
I agree... Melfi ending the therapy in such a cheap and abrupt manner was pretty cheap... Same goes for the last scene of the last episode.
The last scene is definitely not cheap - watch Kino's notes tomorrow, there's a lot of layers to it whereas this is pretty much what you see is what you get. Melfi read a study showing her work was ineffective, maybe in fact made him worse, so she just ended it quickly
I still find it hard to believe that, as late as 2007, Melfi was not yet up to speed on the well-established notion that sociopaths are generally untreatable (per Robert Hare et al).
Sorry to see your reviews coming to an end. You have been doing such a great job.
I've been watching since you started doing season one, and it has been quite a ride! I have really enjoyed hearing your interpretations of things. Thank you for your time, gonna go watch your Many Saints of Newark review now...
At least he put the magazine page back
Thank you, Kino. It's been a hell of a ride..I have enjoyed watchin all your Soprano's logs. I appreciate you doing this. Much love to ya brother. Keep on keeping on!
Dr Melfi refusing to treat Tony anymore felt really forced. I wasn’t a big fan of it either.
