What a cute musically expressive computerless vocaloid clone. Gives that same sorta' funky weird toy vibe just as their SK-1 did from way back in the day. It might just be enough of a curiosity that they'll sell boat loads of 'em as I'm assuming it will be at a consumer price point, and all the kids (and kids at heart) will want one. Oddly cool actually.

I am a huge fan of the 80's Casiotone models and of course CZ models too. This synth is going to sell well. It has a lot to offer for a synth nerd like me. It has a character. It can do modern AND old stuff. The Natural Piano sounds are not "that" good (today's standards are on a very high level) to be honest, but it is a SYNTH, not a Piano or Organ and the Piano sounds still gets the work done, they sound still "ok" and much better if you compare them to VR-09 Piano's or Krome Piano's. This thing is a weird synth, it works and i like it. For a 500€ it is a bargain. Casio's age well too, they don't brake. One of the interesting and weirdest synths of 2022 for sure. I ordered my unit today. Don't let the name fool you. Edit: I wish Jack would have demoed more of the synth sounds and effects. That's where the magic of this instrument happens. I think the Piano's and Organs are good to go, the EP's are pretty good and the Synth section + effects are excellent. Try to listen Roland FA demoes, Korg Krome demoes, Yamaha MODX, Kurzweil PC4 demoes and then come to listen demoes of this thing again n UA-cam. You will notice that many of the CT synth sounds are actually BETTER/MORE MODERN than the sounds in digital Junos, Krome models etc which are already getting old (10-15 years) and when it comes to their synthesis. Casio brings something new to the hardware digital table. Again, don't let the name fool you. Casio did it in the 80's and they will do it again. This thing is a huge leap for them and the price is just ridicilous. Only Behringer can compete with that.
The reason i bought of these has nothing to do with the tricks it can do with vocals but mainly because it has so many sounds available. There's an enormous array of high quality brass and sax sounds and loads of other sounds too. It costs a fraction of the cost of a korg or a Roland but the quality of the sounds stand up well against more expensive keyboards too. Plus it doesn't weigh a ton so carying it to a gig is not a back breaking affair. I use a double keyboard stand so the lower keyboard ( a Yamaha NP11) will be used for playing chords and the Casio will be above it to enable me to play melody sounds like brass and sax etc. i play in a reggae band and a set up like that works well for our needs.
I have the ct-s500 and they really need a way to customize the Dsp. There’s like 5 amp model settings and no straight up delay and chorus, and no way to change the actual 4 Dsp blocks that are in there. I’m actually pretty disappointed cause the Dsp was one of the selling points to me. No way I thought it’d be 100 weird presets that I couldn’t really modify. So far the sounds are pretty great as a toss around keyboard for jams. And the Bluetooth to iPad for other sounds is awesome. Please Casio. Firmware update and let us customize the Dsp slots!!!!
I've been eyeing up the CT-S500 because of the customizable DSP, I've had a look through the manual and it looks like there is a lot you can tweak, have a look under the "DSP Parameter List" section in the manual. There's a delay and chorus listed too, is it possible you might have missed it? I mean, you own the keyboard so you would know more than me, I'm just looking at the .PDF since no one has dived deeply into the DSP yet in any video reviews. I think you need to hit the "parameter" button once you are on a particular DSP to edit it in detail.
@@Conanbroman I've figured out how to edit the parameters, but there's no way to change the FX block as far as I can tell. Even on the presets with just say, an EQ, you can't hit the button in the 3 empty slots and add a delay, etc. Maybe I'm missing something, but so far the implementation isn't great. There's sooo many variations of AMP + Trem etc, but I'd really like a couple bread and butter Chorus delay reverb ones at least. If you look at the 100 list in the manual those are the presets available. Yes you can bypass blocks, but not switch out.
@@zipporaid Thanks for the reply, that's some really good information to know. I would have thought you could change the blocks, I was imagining it like a proper DSP chain. Hmmmmm. Also a side note, I think you can apply chorus and delay globally via the SYS FX page. Have a look at Casio's own reveal of this keyboard, he seems to show making a custom chain? If I'm hearing you right, he's actually limited to these choices in a preset rather than having selected them purposefully. ua-cam.com/video/_EK6ut9O-Qo/v-deo.html Edit, looks like you are right, in that video, he's selected DSP number 46 and the on-screen annotation says "LFO Wah + Drive + Amp/Cabinet + Stereo Delay", in the manual it says the same thing for number 46 "Auto Wah Amp - Auto Wah, Drive, Amp/Cab, Delay". So yeah, a number of presets to chose from. This doesn't completely put me off but that's not as cool as I thought it might be. Still a big upgrade on the CT-S400 at least :D Hopefully they can update the firmware as you say.

Yes, although I’m the V-Synth, you can sample in a vocal phrase and then specify “events” as time markers in the sample, so that it can move through the phrase as you play each note. So you can potentially achieve more realistic results with your own voice being processed on the V-Synth, but the synthetic voice here is a cool timbre on its own!
