Fantastic demo. Using custom waveforms in the vocal synthesis engine could be a fun way to get some unique sounds. I really wish casio made a full blown iPad patch editor for this. Spent and afternoon at Guitar Center. THIS SYNTH was the most fun instrument in the store, hands down. Inspiring as hell. ALSO, keys have a great feel, much better than arturia, m-audio, novation etc at similar price
That Casio love right here. Rocking the Casio Privia PX-5S. 88 Weighted keys, lots of sounds, also a MIDI controller. Love it! Thanks for talking about the Casio line.
"raise your hands up" is definitely the Casio version of "errbody put your hands in the air" ... and I absolutely can't wait for this split in the timeline.
This is the best video that explains the vocal synthesis part of this keyboard. I'm already familiar with the Casio tones and rhythms but the vocal synthesis part is mystery until now.
I have one if these in the way from Zzounds. A friend of mine got a Casio that has great sounds, so after looking at some of their synths, this one really caught my eye. 2 more days and it'll be here. 40 bucks a month for a year, I couldn't hold back and ordered one
Great enthustiastic demo! And YES, the Casio pianos are super and generally underrated! They're my standard recommendation, excellent sound and quality at a beginners price point.
I was initially disappointed by the fact that Casio released a "Vocal Synth" crammed into a PSR-type portable keyboard. But then I was like, "What could be more Casio than that?" (The first synth I owned was the CZ-101 -- right when it came out in the 80s -- and the manual for that [unexpectedly awesome synth] taught me everything I *still* know about synths.) So, I'm kinda thinking this thing might be totally rad.
Also, how is this thing half the price of the Korg Modwave? I was a beta tester on Korg Wavestate 2.0 and all I got was... early access to Wavestate 2.0. Now I want this Casio more than Korg Modwave. Hmm. 🤔
The joy is strong with this one… have to admit, I mostly had written off Casio as a toy keyboard maker.. but your video demo and your argument that it can be a inspiration and practice tool beyond its sophisticated voice synthesis capabilities, sold me
4:39 the Monomachine have vocal synthesis and there is a hardware vocaloid (in keytar format) that was available only in japan (and only with japanese phonemes)
There was also the pocket miku which is a vocaloid voice in a small case with ribbon like a monotron. (If i remember right you could input custom lyrics with midi and it also had a GM sound generator)
This thing is incredible. Thank you for sharing. I used to be so obsessed with collecting gear… literally racks of gear and synthesizers. I also had more VSTs than I knew what to do with and in the end I realized something significant. I sucked at writing music, playing music, and understanding different styles of music. I sold all of my gear except my two guitars and decided I would learn guitar and study music theory before I “rebuild” my studio. I am now thinking about getting a keyboard and instead of getting a midi keyboard controller, setting up ableton live, and loading a bunch of VST instruments to play with I can just buy this and it literally does everything I need to practice basic song playing, comping, and writing. I don’t need an audio interface. I don’t need a laptop. I don’t even need new monitors! The icing on the cake is that this is also a midi keyboard so when I decide it’s time to reinstall ableton and all of my VSTs I can do this as well. If you’re still reading, the point is that sometimes with music, less is more. This keyboard, a microphone, a guitar, and a loop pedal is more than enough equipment to create some really fun music. I can’t wait to get my hands on this.
Love this mindset. I too am looking for something that I can get quick reps writing music on. Also wouldn’t it be great to be the guy who makes that track that keeps this weird thing relevant in 30 years
I have to correct something about the phrase "Chilean Tango". There's no Tango in Chile, cero, nada!!!. Tango is from Buenos Aires, Argentina!!! Trust me, that's where I'm from!! Anyways, great review and nice channel! 🙃😁
To a certain degree you can customize the vocal synthesis of the Pocket Miku by putting in syllables in a certain order. It's a fun device. It's also a microtonal midi-keybard.
While I'm a big fan of casio, especially how they upped their game with privia series to be at the same level as Yamahas or Rolands, I spent some time with the CT-S1000v every time I had some time in Yodobashi, I'd say the vocal function gets into one trick pony very quickly after the initial "this is so cool". It's basically fun for first 20 min, but it kind of sounds the same and there is really little real-world usage beyond annoying people (Had done that!). I know some people would go to vocaloid concert so the tolerance is different. But for me 20 min was the limit - and I love crazy things.
Thanks to your video, I now need to buy one of these (and dig out my SK-1 to play with it again). Even though I just spent more cash than I am like to admit on a Korg Nautilus, I'm getting one of these. Thanks for the info, this is a great video!

Excellent review. You gave enough of a demonstration to trigger the imagination - what can I do with this keyboard. Your explanations were on point and the music was inspiring.
The voice synthesis on this, and the acoustic rompler patches, cover territory I just can't get with any of my synths. It may be a Casio, but it fills in some pretty big gaps in a synth studio.
The Yamaha VKB-100 is a hardware vocal synth that allows customization, but can’t buy it in the US and I couldn’t get the app to work in the US, so I don’t know if that counts 😅 this Casio looks perfect though 🎉
i think roland VA 7 series 20 year ago /including touch screen/ had something similar with their "vari phrase" ? - thats only shows how advance was roland up to G70 after they left flagship arranger territory :(
Variohrase tech. Great demo. I haven't said this in decades for Casio. I want one. (Ironic) I asked a few months ago if this board had speakers, batteries and.... A bossanova button.
