I've also seen that bands carry extra cymbals on tour, because for various reasons, they wear down. And anyone who hits the cymbal hard enough to plastically deform it is basically doing the same thing as taking a hammer to it, creating little hard or thin spots that cause cracks over time. Look at a slow motion cymbal strike; it's mind blowing how much a normal hit will deform them.

@Luke Bargowski I love Metallica but Lars can barely play his old drum parts and definitely can't keep time. Hetfield's rhythm playing is the only reason that they keep any semblance of a steady beat.
@Luke Bargowski If we are talking about live shows Lars has more issues than just tempo, which is already embarrassing enough for a drummer. Listen to something like Dyers Eve live. Lars can't play the double bass part at all. In other old songs that they don't play at every show he messes up fills left and right and misses timings. Its like he doesn't even bother remembering how to play them. Why settle for less when other similarly aged metal acts are just as tight as ever.
+Louis D the kid who played the main role was taught how to drum by one of the guys he replaces in that movie, he didnt even know how to drum before hand.
